Please restore the revisions before the AfD redirect of that article (to my userspace if policy prohibits otherwise). I think it's mentioned in enough books. Also, the main delete !votes in that discussion are subject to ongoing arbitration, in which part of the issue are dubious AfD votes. In either case, you should add the link to the aft to the redirect's talk page with {{oldafdfull}}. Pcap ping 16:49, 22 December 2009 (UTC)
- This is pretty old software. It appeared before most of the common crop of Linux/FOSS reivew sites, and before most of Gnome/KDE stuff. Here's a 2001 review. Pcap ping 17:06, 22 December 2009 (UTC)
- In 2002 it was the 2nd most popular Linux IM software, after gaim/pidgin according to a reader survey by Linux Journal. [1]. Pcap ping 17:19, 22 December 2009 (UTC)
- Nobody wanted keep, so I cannot really restore it to article space, I will wp:userfy it for you and it will appear at User:Pohta ce-am pohtit/Licq shortly. I do note that Wikipedia:Articles_for_deletion/Administrator_instructions only specifies {{oldafdfull}} for keep, not for redirects, so not appropriate here (which is probably why the closing macro I use, does not do it). I'm not sure if the ongoing arbitration will make much difference, had there been some "keeps" then maybe/maybe not - I'm not going to prejudge that. If you can address the concerns of the Afd, then it can be moved back to article space. Ronhjones (Talk) 19:47, 22 December 2009 (UTC)

Merry Christmas
Dear Ronhjones,

Copyright vio "Photonic Crystal Biosensors"
I think a better way to deal with this is to make it a stub since it seems notable, no? Photonic crystal biosensor ErikHaugen (talk) 17:58, 31 December 2009 (UTC)

North Queensland vandals
Three days ago you warned BillyKeys (talk · contribs) of an indef block if he vandalised again; today he created a nonsense article and put a lot of rubbish into North Queensland, so I have delivered on your threat. It's a pity that so much energy can't be put to some use, but it doesn't look as if he's able to learn what Wikipedia is about. I think he may be a sock of WorldWider12 (talk · contribs), who has a similar record and had a 48-hr block on 29 November. BillyKeys was created on 1 Dec, and Worldwider12 hasn't edited since 5 Dec. If Worldwider now springs to life again, an SPI may be called for. Regards, JohnCD (talk) 18:10, 31 December 2009 (UTC)

Third Culture Kids
Ron, I'm not sure if I agree with the move (IMHO it should remain pluralized as that is the common form of the term) so I went ot see if the move request had been posted to the page or if I simply missed it with the holiday season. Unfortunately, I can't see the article history. Neither the article nor the talk page history have been left entact. Do you know how to fix their histories?---Balloonman NO! I'm Spartacus! 20:13, 31 December 2009 (UTC)
- Histories are moved with the page, not deleted.

- The history for the article is now showing up, but the history for the talk page isn't. According to the current history, the first post was made on December 21 2009. This is not correct. Ohio River Trail Council
Hey there, do you know who granted the ORTS permission to Ohiorivertrail? I'm inclined to suspect the user has some personal involvement in the Council in question, and if so, a conflict of interest. In any case, I really don't see the article having much notability. Being a more experienced Wikipedian than I, what do you think on the matter? KaySL (talk) 19:48, 1 January 2010 (UTC)
- No idea - not quite my field of expertise - It was flagged as a copyvio CSD, so I went to delete it as a CSD, but saw the ticket, and therefore had to refuse. The ORTS ticket just says that the web site owner had given permission (by e-mail) for the web page contents to be used. It does not imply that the content is suitable as a Article page. There's a lot of text there, and could use a serious clean up or maybe even delete. I don't see it as anything for CSD. There's a real lack of references, it may well be non notable - maybe you would like to consider Deletion, then a consensus can be obtained as to it's merits? can you add inventors and scholars to the category:African scientists Kacembepower (talk) 00:30, 2 January 2010 (UTC)
- Suggestions...
- 1. Rename that category to African scientist, inventors, and scholars (but a bit long)
- 2. Have 3 sub-categories of African scientist for Scientist, Inventor, and Scholar

relisting tag - what does it mean?
Hi Ron. I see you entered a tag "- Relisting." for a revert to a page move from Oregon Petition back to Global Warming Petition Project. I don't know if that was a "bot", but could you explain what it means? --Knowsetfree (talk) 10:36, 2 January 2010 (UTC)
- There was a lot of talk (from 3 people) and not one "support" / "oppose" / "neutral". We have the option (Wikipedia:Requested_moves/Closing_instructions#Determining_consensus) if the discussion has not yet reached a consensus, and might do so, to relist - i.e place a new time stamp, and 7 day clock re-starts. Also it's a holiday period, and next week might draw more editors. Ronhjones (Talk) 00:29, 3 January 2010 (UTC)
- I learn something new every day. Thanks. --Knowsetfree (talk) 19:33, 3 January 2010 (UTC)
I tagged this article for speedy deletion yesterday, due to the fact that it had been directly copied from the subject's webpage. It was then edited by the same user who created the article and who has stated that they are affiliated with the subject, before you declined it. While I think that the language used is now fairly neutral (although I'm not sure about the whole article with respect to the information included), the reason I came here is to get another opinion of the subject's notability and the general state of the article, and at the moment I'd rather not go straight in with an AfD. Jhbuk (talk) 19:22, 2 January 2010 (UTC)
- G11 really is for SPAM, I didn't see this as spam - they are not selling any product as such, it's a band. Notability is a bit thin, but there are 3 news sites included in them - my feeling is that a speedy {{Db-band}} would probably fail - I've seen worse band articles than this which stay. You could proposed deletion, but if there are active editors then one will just remove the template (as they are entitled to do). That then leaves only WP:Afd as a way to remove it - and also gain consensus from other editors. Ronhjones (Talk) 00:41, 3 January 2010 (UTC)
- I opened an (aparrently unreasonable) AFD and this occured. When I tried to suggest that Singing tesla coil was merged into tesla coil, this happened, with no discussion. I'd quite like someone else to address the problems on the AFD. Jhbuk (talk) 20:05, 4 January 2010 (UTC)
- I didn't realize that a discussion had been open. I thought as though I was making a reasonable edit to the page. I am starting to get the feeling that Jhbuk is singling out my posts directly, as there are far less relevant articles on Wikipedia that go unquestioned all of the time.Epilectrik (talk) 21:05, 4 January 2010 (UTC)
- As far as the validity of the references for the singing tesla coil article, please take the time to research this in google to find time stamped articles on the subject that are in fact older, this is a matter that I am certain of. The Singing Tesla Coil is a very real device, and shouldn't be disallowed a wikipedia article purely on the fact that the oldest referring articles in existence on the subject come from CNET, which in itself is a highly reliable news source that is recognized by many outfits. Jhbut's disputes on the ArcAttack wiki page had merit, but I have made all the corrections that were suggested, and have created an article that properly satisfies the criteria for a wikipedia article based on the notability requirements set forth by wikipedia for a performance group. Assistance in settling this matter would be most appreciated.Epilectrik (talk) 21:12, 4 January 2010 (UTC)
- Also, having the "feeling" which Jhbut has stated, that the articles do not merit notability or reliable sources shouldn't merit a dispute in this fashion. I request that any further contesting on his behalf is backed up with factual information, and time stamped articles that are in fact from more reliable sources that those provided by me, and show contrary information. In this situation this article can only be sourced by the best information available on the subject, and should not risk the existence of the article.Epilectrik (talk) 21:16, 4 January 2010 (UTC)
- I don't want to be involved with this anymore. Jhbuk (talk) 21:42, 4 January 2010 (UTC)
"Biblical" username
Re this unblock decline ... I would have granted it even if it's a little grandiose; if someone disallowed from using a name referring to a specific religious organization wants to use a name referring to that religion, what's the harm? Daniel Case (talk) 17:11, 2 January 2010 (UTC)
- The original block was for using a name associated with a Church, since (s)he has only edited religious topics it might become a bit controversial later, and I would not want someone else to later on apply another user name block. Ronhjones (Talk) 00:31, 3 January 2010 (UTC)
- I think we have a few editors who edit primarily religious topics with usernames that proclaim their faith, whichever it is. That is not a policy violation. And we generally apply username blocks only to new users. A username that has edited for a long time is presumed to be permitted by community consensus (and believe me, every single new username gets scrutinized). Daniel Case (talk) 05:44, 3 January 2010 (UTC)
- I did not apply the original block, and surely he was a new user (1/1/2010)? Ronhjones (Talk) 00:01, 11 January 2010 (UTC)

The TriBattery Pops edit you made was incorrect - please reverse
Hi there. JHBUK's edit of the TriBattery Pops, which was carried out, due to copyright is incorrect and you should reverse it. CD Baby holds no copyright on the out of print Daily News article which was used by the TriBattery Pops with permission of its editor, Dawn Eden for multiple web quotes. In other words, the long out of print Daily News article is now a part of the TriBattery Pops promotion and you should not have simply deleted it.
Please revise.
For further confirmation, please contact the band, which is run as a benefit for childrens' scholarships at the Church Street School for Music and Art through a return email.
To simply push through an edit by JHBUK without first checking with the author appears to be quite aggressive and seems to be unnecessary in this case. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Budfolk (talk • contribs) 16:33, 3 January 2010 (UTC)
- I haven't edited this page. See here. (With matters of copyright violations, though, it is always better to remove material if unsure, if its copyright status is unconfirmed, as it can be a legal matter.) Jhbuk (talk) 21:21, 3 January 2010 (UTC)
- There is little point in restoring material that has text that matches other web sites - it will certainly be seen by other editors as a copyright violation and re-tagged again and again. I tried to save the page by just removing the copied material - it's still there in the history. I would suggest that you either re-write the material, or see WP:COPYREQ for details on how to obtain permission - once permission is granted, then the ORTS result can be placed on the article's talk page to show other editors that the data is not breaching copyright. Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Common outcomes
Hello Dr. Jones, I was wondering the rationale for not moving WP:OUTCOMES. Was it simply that there was not unanimous consensus to move it, or something else? Thanks, ɳoɍɑfʈ Talk! 13:41, 4 January 2010 (UTC)

Delta Chi Chapter of Delta Kappa Epsilon
To: Wikipedia Editors slakr, DGG, C.Fred & Ronhjones Gentlemen: Please recall that we were having some discussion about the appropriateness of adding an article on the Delta Chi Chapter of Delta Kappa Epsilon to Wikipedia. I concede that an article on the Delta Chi Association (the alumni arm of the Chapter) is not necessary, but I would like to go forward with an article on the chapter. I have prepared a text that follows in this message. All sources for the material are cited. I note that Wikipedia carries many articles on specific clubs and societies in American universities. The "Dartmouth College Greek organizations" article provides subarticles on the individual Greek-letter chapters. "Eating club (Princeton University)" links to separate articles on the five bicker clubs and the five non-selective clubs in Princeton The secret honor societies of Cornell University have articles, i.e. "Sphinx Head" and "Quill and Dagger." There are individual articles on six of the eight final clubs at Harvard University. Yale University's societies, e.g. Skull and Bones" well are represented. In other words, I see ample precedent for an article on a specific college club. You will note that there is sufficient historical significance cited to warrant an article. Please advise if I may proceed. I would appreciate responses by email: [email protected] H. William Fogle (HWF1870) Alumni Historian, Delta Chi Association Hwf1870 (talk) 19:08, 21 January 2010 (UTC)
Proposed text for Wikipedia article.
The Delta Chi Chapter of Delta Kappa Epsilon (ΔX of ΔKE) is an undergraduate social fraternity for men at Cornell University.
- The Chapter has functioned without interruption since its charter was granted by the Phi Chapter of Delta Kappa Epsilon (Φ of ΔKE) at Yale University on February 11, 1870.
- The Chapter’s lodge, known as the Deke House, was listed on the National Register of Historic Places on 11 January 1991. The marble veneered building, erected in 1893 and expanded in 1910, was designed by William Henry Miller in the Romanesque style.
Historical Significance
The historic importance of this fraternity chapter derives from four attributes:
- the intent of its founders and architectural mentors for the Chapter to take on the role of an Oxbridge style college within an American university setting;
- the exceptional political and martial traditions of its membership as evidenced by the many memorials preserved in the Chapter’s lodge;
- the leading role played by Delta Kappa Epsilon in the Secret society movement at Cornell University (c. 1870-1930); and
- the number of members who achieved distinction in public life and commerce while maintaining close ties to the undergraduate establishment in Ithaca throughout their careers.
Noteworthy Events
Noteworthy events in the Chapter’s history include the following.
- U.S. President Rutherford B. Hayes became an honorary member of Delta Kappa Epsilon in 1877 following the initiation of his three sons in the Delta Chi Chapter of DKE: Birchard Austin Hayes '74, James Webb Cook Hayes '76 (both initiated on October 7, 1873) and Rutherford Platt Hayes '80 (initiated on October 13, 1876).
- New York State Governor Theodore Roosevelt, a Deke from the Harvard College chapter of Delta Kappa Epsilon (A of ΔKE), visited the Chapter on 20 June 1899 and planted two Norway Spruce trees to commemorate the memory of Brother Clifton Beckwith Brown ’00 who had been killed in the Battle of San Juan Hill on July 1, 1898.
- The chapter was an active member of the Star League, the five leading secret societies at Cornell during the nineteenth century: Zeta Psi (founded 1868), Kappa Alpha Society (1868), Alpha Delta Phi (1869), Delta Kappa Epsilon (1870) and Psi Upsilon (1876). This consortium that cooperated to varying degrees with respect to social affairs, intramural athletics and rush, eventually became the Big Six with the addition of Chi Psi (1869).
- The Chapter’s lodge was used to house a contingent of the Student Army Training Corps during World War I. This militarization of the lodge was repeated during World War II when a U.S. Marine Corps element was undergoing training with the V-12 Navy College Training Program.
- Delta Chi Brother Mario Garcia Menocal III '88, the third President of the Republic of Cuba, invited the members of Delta Kappa Epsilon to hold their 76th DKE Convention in Havana. This assembly convened in December 1920. The Delta Chi Chapter of the fraternity was represented by a delegation of fifteen brothers. The convention elected Delta Chi Brother Stephen Byrd Horrell '21 to preside in the office of Convention President.

Objects, Motto and Arms
Objects
The Chapter's purpose and goals accord with the original statement of the Delta Kappa Epsilon Fraternity's purpose:
- The Objects of Delta Kappa Epsilon are the cultivation of general literature and social culture, the advancement and encouragement of intellectual excellence, the promotion of honorable friendship and useful citizenship, the maintenance of gentlemanly dignity, self-respect and morality in all circumstances, and the union of stout hearts and kindred interests to secure to merit its due reward. DKE handbook for Pledges (Delta Kappa Epsilon Council, 1956).
Motto
The overt motto is “Μή δοκεῖν ἀλλ᾽ εἶναι,” or in Roman transliteration, “Me Dokein All Einai,” meaning “Not to seem, but to be.” The phrase is taken from line 592 in the 467 B.C. play, Seven Against Thebes, by Aeschylus.
Arms
The armorial bearings of the Chapter are listed with the American College of Heraldry as Registration Number 715, effective as of 14 October 1987. The blazon reads as follows.
- Arms.
- Or, between two chevrons counterpoint, the upper Gules and the lower Azure, as many men's hearts, issuant from each and pendant overall a chain of seven links, joining them in base as their fifteenth link the interlaced Greek letters "Delta" and "Chi" Gules, counterchanged Or over the lower chevron. At fess point an inescutcheon depicting a landscape, namely, Azure, the sun rising in splendor from behind three mountains Vert, and in base Sable, therein the sun reflected wavy Argent. Above the Shield is placed a helmet with visor closed, and in Escrol below the Shield this motto: "Not to seem, but to be," in Greek Letters.
Charter, Governance and Tax Status
Charter
The Chapter was chartered by the Phi Chapter of Delta Kappa Epsilon (Φ of ΔKE) at Yale College, New Haven CT, on 11 February 1870 with an inaugural dinner held at the Clinton House on that date. Brother James Julius Chambers '70 (1850 - 1920) served as the Chapter's first president. The Chapter was subsequently incorporated in the State of [New York] as the Delta Kappa Epsilon Fraternity at Cornell University, Inc., on 5 November 1883 "for the purpose of mental, moral and social improvement." The Certificate of Incorporation was filed with the Tompkins County Clerk on 7 November 1883 and with the New York Secretary of State on 8 November 1883.
Governance
The undergraduate organization (1) operates a fraternal association, (2) manages a residence facility, (3) runs a dining service, and (4) conducts social entertainments for the benefit of its active members and alumni. The Chapter is organized and governed in accordance with Chapter Bylaws that were last revised and ratified on 29 January 2009. In addition, members are bound by the provisions of subordinate House Rules that govern conduct, discipline, decorum and other such matters.
Federal and State Tax Status
The Chapter is a tax exempt public charity in accordance with Title 26 U.S.C. (Internal Revenue Code) §501(c)7 per a group ruling letter issued to the Delta Kappa Epsilon Council in January 1943. The chapter is recognized as a "not for profit" corporation by the New York State's Division of Corporation Records in a letter dated 23 April 1987.
Historical Resources
DKE Depository
The records, correspondence, publications and selected artifacts of the Chapter are held in the DKE Depository (Collection #37-4-1535) maintained by the Cornell University Library's Rare and Manuscript Collections Department under terms set forth in a formal Memorandum of Understanding dated 29 February 1988 and executed on 4 March 1988. The Depository holds the original 1870 Charter. Black & white and color photographic images of this document are filed as N4279 and N4317, respectively. A replacement charter, also held in the ΔKE Depository, was issued by the Sixty-Second ΔKE Convention held at Hartford CT, 12-13 November 1908. Black & white and color photographic images are filed as N4280 and N4318, respectively.
Publications
The chapter publishes The Delta Chi Deke newsletter (ISSN #0895-5255, registered on 10 September 1987 with the Library of Congress National Serials Data Program) under the direction of an undergraduate editor and distributes same to all alumni and friends of Delta Chi. Back issues dating from Volume I, Number 1 (May 1935), are held in the DKE Depository.
Chapter House and Grounds

Global Warming Petition Project - "Oregon Petition"
First, I hope your eye gets better. You mentioned that you were going move the name of the article "Global Warming Petition Project" away from "Oregon Petition". Just trying to find out if your preliminarily stated intention was reversed, and if so why. One would think an items actual name would take precedence except in unusual circumstances, or when the subject represented itself under the nickname. As far as wikipedia's naming policy goes, when determining the "most usually known" name, could derogatory nicknames ever have equal consideration versus an actual name? The current article name discussion is burdened by obvious POV bias associated with the nickname. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 74.101.141.120 (talk) 21:38, 29 January 2010 (UTC)
- Eye is fine (after 6 weeks), face is not - they gave me fusidic acid ointment, which I found out (by using it) that I was allergic to it, so rather inflamed face and neck, which is slowly improving... Anyway, I did threaten to move the page, hoping that it might bring out more comments - all it did was to increase the "opposes", so I had to close with no consensus (it had been listed long enough. At the moment "Oregon Petition" gets more hits on Google variations than "Global Warming Petition Project", so it's rather hard to state that "Global Warming Petition Project" is the WP:COMMONNAME. However one of the main web pages (http://www.oism.org/pproject/) has the "Global Warming Petition Project" title in it's web page - I think it will be just a question of time before "Global Warming Petition Project" become the common name, and then I would suggest another WP:RM. M. Pat Korb, edits August 2009
This page no longer exists, so this may be a moot point. The page, M. Pat Korb, referenced my mother, Margaret P. Korb, who passed away at that time of pancreatic cancer. I did not create the page; and it contained many inaccuracies, incomplete references, and 3rd-grader typos by some person(s) who obviously did not know her, personally or professionally. When I attempted to make corrections, this resulted in notes from a Wikipedia person which I found additionally and unnecessarily insulting and offensive. This reply is mainly to thank you for the politeness of your note regarding my “edits” and their context. Thank you. User:Lime987/Mangalore Club is not getting approved
Hi Sir,
I have been trying to get my article at "User:Lime987/Mangalore Club" approved since many days but I have not succeeded yet. At this point I seek your help. Is anything wrong in the code "{move draft}" I am using. I have created an article using the article wizard and now I am trying to move it from user space to the main space(i.e I want the article to go live after being approved). Could you please let me know why exactly my article is not being reviewed? I am new to wikipedia though my article is pending there since many days. I tried researching on 'how to move the article from userspace to mainspace' but I was not able to understand much with the available information on this topic :( .
Thanks in advance, @$# 06:23, 26 January 2010 (UTC) —Preceding unsigned comment added by Lime987 (talk • contribs)
- I see you applied a {{move draft}} template - that relies on normal editors to look at the page and decide on whether to move it or not, there is quite a backlog here (this work is not done by admins - it doesn't show up on the admin backlog).
I think that a better plan is to post a message at WP:FEED - I think you will get a faster response. When the page is ready to be moved (I don't think so yet - see below), then you can either
- Set up a requested move OR
- Move it yourself - at the top of every page is a "move" tab, just click that and enter a new name for that page, then click the "move Page" box on that page - and it will be moved.
- Current status of page - I will remove the {{move draft}} for you, as someone may see it and decide to set it for deletion! - It needs to have more references - in particular in-line references are absent. I've added a welcome template with useful links on your talk page - see the "citing sources" one for how to do references. Ronhjones (Talk) 02:02, 28 January 2010 (UTC)

Mass page moves
Thanks for closing the move request at Talk:Killer whale. As you may have noticed, it was a test case for a discussion at Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Cetaceans on the capitalisation of cetacean species names. We have a consensus to move to sentence case, but there are around eighty articles that we have to go through (see User:Swift/CETA). Can we simply request a mass-page-move? How would we go about that? --Swift (talk) 21:07, 1 February 2010 (UTC)
- If you look at WP:RM - you will see the alternative template for multiple page moves. Pick a suitable "main" page as the "number 1" - as all talk will be done on that one page. Ronhjones (Talk) 23:45, 1 February 2010 (UTC)
- Sorry, should have seen that. Thanks for the help anyway. Move request now up at Talk:Bowhead_Whale#Requested_move. --Swift (talk) 01:35, 2 February 2010 (UTC)

Patent Nonesense
I am sorry Ron, but Campaign  was not Patent nonesense. Nor was it a farce or any kind of "joke" other than it was created in the lightest of hearts.
I am sorry Ron, but I cannot conclude your deletion of a perfectly comprehensible article was a decision motivated by a disagreement of the principle of the article and no amount of "inability" to understand the content.
If at all possible could you please replace it. I have links to it, and hopefully so do other people. I am rather hurt that something I worked very carefully on was declared "Nonesense" ... it was not nonesense. Disagree with the need for Campaign  if you want to, and feel free to pen a polemic against it - but please do not abuse your ability to delete perfectly comprehensible contributions to convey your opinion of my idea.
Yes. I am very serious. I am insulted.
Please alert me @ [email protected] when you have had a chance to respond - I very rarely actually log into wikipedia. I rarely feel the need to. —Preceding unsigned comment added by SheaReinke (talk • contribs) 13:14, 31 January 2010 (UTC)
- The page that was deleted did not have a snowballs chance of being able to stay on Wikipedia. It was declared "nonsense" by User:Andyjsmith. It is extremely unlikely that the page could ever be notable. Anyway I will userfy if for you at User:SheaReinke/Campaign , but it may not last long. Ronhjones (Talk) 23:57, 1 February 2010 (UTC)
Thank you for reconstituting my submission. May I ask that you weigh in on the "nonesense" verdict. It is a short article (for now) that I hope to eventually transform into a grammatical movement. Have you read the article and do you agree with "this andyjsmith's" opinion? If so could you take the time to explain in more detail than he did? I consider the article perfectly intelligible.
SheaReinke (talk) 05:35, 7 February 2010 (UTC)
- There are a limited number of types of WP:CSD - G1 is just one of them. The page (as it stands) could very easily be thought to be nonsense, I know that some editors would call such a page a G3 (hoax), or A1 (No context) or A3 (No content). I doubt is A7 (No indication of importance (individuals, animals, organizations, web content)) is allowed for such a page, as it's range is limited. What tag is used for the CSD is not that important, so long as it approximates to the content. A proper notable page with appropriate sources, is very unlikely to be given a CSD tag, and if it was, it would be refused. The page as it stands will not pass those tests, and if it was seen in Article space would be deleted one way or the other (If no suitable CSD was appropriate then it would soon end up in Articles for deletion). Replaced image
Hello -
I have been creating an article on Joel Iskowitz, which is still in sandbox form. I had uploaded an image given to me by the artist - the file is Iskowitz_SL_stamp_Scott_589.jpg - and I had limited license granted by the artist. The edit history of the image shows that you deleted it with the code "F3: Media file with improper license."
I've now replaced the image with my own original scan from a stamp I purchased, and have granted free public use - no claims of copyright - for the image.
I left the file name the same - not sure if that was a good idea or not - but I'm not clear about how it can be shown again on my sandbox, which I wish to publish ASAP.
Could you please help me? I'm not sure if I did the correct thing here, and I don't know what step to take next. Maxschlepp (talk) 14:06, 9 February 2010 (UTC)
- Tricky (images often are...) Limited licenses are not allowed - because Wikipedia's license is basically that "anyone can copy the content", so any image must be released (or donated) on a full Creative Commons license, except fair use images. Your scan of a stamp might fall into "fair use" (may depend on how old it is). But note that Fair use images can only be used for the Articles that they claim on the image page - cannot be used in a sandbox! Can I suggest you post a question at the appropriate help page (WP:IMAGEHELP), there will be more editors with better knowledge of the Wikipedia copyright rules who will be only to glad to help you. Richard Kastle
You have probably seen the Speedy Deletion message on the Richard Kastle talk page but I haven't seen one reaction at all. Therefore a message or a vote one way or the other is lacking. Richard Kastle is a wannabe pianist, unknown beyond his extremely limited viewing on youtube.
He now plays Holiday Inns and nursing homes for free.
His attempts to play the piano are a joke to any serious pianist.
Unfortunately, so few view his wikipedia article to justify the normal deletion process by vote.
Juri Koll is the only present editor of the Kastle article, and has caused immeasurable damage to the talk pages of other editors such as User Prof.rick, who, as a final measure had to delete his own talk page.
PLEASE, look into the Richard Kastle page and decide fairly if its presence in wikipedia can possibly be justified.
Why does Juri Koll claim to be the creator of this article while the page history indicates that Mike Caffey created the article? I suspect sock puppetry, probably conducted by Kastle himself. I therfore URGE a thorough investigation of the article by wikipedia administrators.
Thank You for listening,
Randyrhoads1fan (talk) 23:07, 9 February 2010 (UTC)
- There is no CSD tag on the article page, that's why no one has taken any action - see WP:CSD for how to tag for speedy deletion. However, with so many references, it is unlikely to survive a CSD. The only option to delete it would be to nominate for deletion - see WP:AfD. Ronhjones (Talk) 23:12, 9 February 2010 (UTC)

I'm curious as to your reasoning for reverting what appears to be an attempt to remove the copyvio text. 76.102.12.35 (talk) 23:46, 9 February 2010 (UTC)
- Because we have not got a crystal ball to know why an editor is deleting material from an article - that's the function of the edit summary, when left blank, we have to make up our own minds (and large deletes, with no summary are 99.9% vandalism). Vandal fighters do not "see" the whole page, just the changes and the edit summary - see File:Huggle.png for an example. Ronhjones (Talk) 23:54, 9 February 2010 (UTC)
- Perhaps I wasn't clear. I haven't edited the article, I'm aquainted with Huggle (and it's drawbacks), and you haven't explained why you reintroduced copyvio material when the previous editor removed it. (Unless you're blaming Huggle?)76.102.12.35 (talk) 23:58, 9 February 2010 (UTC)

- It was tagged for speedy deletion as a hoax by User:Simon-in-sagamihara
- It was not laid out as per Manual of style
- There was not a single reference to back it up - therefore it was always likely to be deleted, articles must be notable to survive.
- To help you proceed with editing I will..
- Move the deleted article into your user space - it will be found at User:Loggy616/Mgem, when I finished doing it.

According to WP:Requested moves/Closing instructions, you are supposed to evaluate the discussion at Talk:Scott Green (American football official)#Requested move "just like any other discussion on Wikipedia", keeping in mind that "the quality of an argument is more important than whether it comes from a minority or a majority." Since all you wrote when you closed the request was "Page Not Moved" it is unclear whether you performed the evaluation mentioned in the instructions. I could re-open the request in order to get more details on your rationale but I wanted to check with you first to better understand the reason for your decision. Thanks. 68.165.77.188 (talk) 12:42, 16 February 2010 (UTC)

Carl Sagan edit
First of all i hope this is the right place, i find it difficult to navigate these talk pages. Anyway, why did you remove the picture at the end of carl sagans page? I'm sure carl would have seen the funny side, he was a stoner anyway so it's not just nonesense. Why can't it be fun and informative at the same time? Isn't that what mr sagans series 'cosmos' was so popular for? Honestly, you wikipedia admins are basically the vorgons from hitchikers guide to the galaxy. It's depressing to see people actively destroy humour in articles. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 92.26.65.99 (talk) 23:41, 16 February 2010 (UTC)

- Just find a good reference (on the web, or a text book, etc. - but no blog sites, as they are written by anybody), and add that data with your edit by adding <ref>Reference Details</ref> after it - for correct formatting of the reference details, see the page at WP:CITE which shows how to set it up for different media. (P.S. Avoid leading spaces in lines - it causes Wikipedia to put grey boxes around the text, and it won't wrap.) Ronhjones (Talk) 00:40, 17 February 2010 (UTC)

Iranian destroyer Jamaran 2
Hello there, I would like to officially protest and dispute the facts in the article. The sources are provably incorrect on this subject.
This vessel is claimed by Iran to be a destroyer however it is smaller and less well armed than virtually every other modern destroyer on the planet today.
In fact it is smaller and less well armed than most modern frigates in existence such as the Meko 200, Meko 360, Kortenaer and many more.
Also someone incorrectly added that it is a guided missile destroyer which is a gross exaggeration and mis-characterization and is not in any way supported by the sources cited such as Fox News or CNN or Businessweek.
I have been studying military history for nearly 30 years and have verified from 3 original sources that the designation is incorrect by modern standards.

Hello Editor,
I removed the link/reference to a video. I now understand that that is not allowed.
I currently work for Gloria Kellett. We're trying to make her page more informative. I'm new at HTLM and Wikipedia, so this has certainly been a challenge. What else on her page needs to be fixed?

- No. Your edit was "23:54, 19 February 2010 (hist | diff) Dave Kellett (←Blanked the page)" - that's the edit I reverted. Users cannot delete pages, if it needs deleting then please see WP:DP. As for editing Gloria Kellett, I have to point out that it's not recommended for editors to edit Articles that they have an strong link to - please check out WP:COI. Note particularly the paragraph Editors with COIs are strongly encouraged to declare their interests, both on their user pages and on the talk page of any article they edit, particularly if those edits may be contested. Most Wikipedians will appreciate your honesty. Editors who disguise their COIs are often exposed, creating a perception that they, and perhaps their employer, are trying to distort Wikipedia. - About the Caribou and Dick Manitoba vandal and sockpuppet
- A couple of suggestions. Have a read of WP:GAIAV, also look at some of the links at the top, they may be of assistance - possibly WP:AN - as to a better place to post this problem. That would bring your problem to the attention of many more administrators, experienced in those problems, than just picking a few to talk to. Also do consider making an account - it's quite free and can be used on any computer that you wish to log in - it's sometimes hard to follow who is doing what, when the IP addresses keeps changing, in addition one will then build up an account history to show their quality and policy knowledge (you just have to remember to log out - and, at login, not check the "remember for 30days box"!). Should you manage to prove a high degree of IP vandalism, then you would be a position to ask for semi-page protection at WP:RFPP - thus blocking all IP edits. Ronhjones (Talk) 19:32, 19 February 2010 (UTC)
- Thank you. I will print out your links. I have added to my original Help Desk question. I figure he's using about 4, possibly 5 accounts, to vandalize. I've forked the content of Caribou (musician) to Wikinfo.70.54.181.70 (talk) 19:26, 22 February 2010 (UTC)
Proposed move of Up in the Air (film).
I must say I am truly baffled by your decision not to move Up in the Air (film). It not only goes against the consensus reached in the discussion about the proposed move. It also goes against what I see as a clear pattern on Wikipedia of not having redirects as primary topics. I am also somewhat concerned about the way you stated to have reached the conclusion not move the page, by a simple google search. Because if you look through the pages of the hits you get by searching for "up in the air" book -wikipedia you will see that a lot of them actually are about the movie. Also as it was brought up in the discussion about the move, the article about the book Up in the Air was actually created because of the movie, which might indicate that the book on its own was not even notable enough to have been included on Wikipedia had it not been for the movie.
I must admit, I am not too familiar with rules about what an administrator on Wikipedia can and can not do. But I will say that it seems to me like a very bad practice to just go in as administrator and overrule a consensus reached in a discussion. I would say that if you happened to disagree with that consensus you should instead have weighed in during the discussion. Not just overrule it afterwards. TheFreeloader (talk) 16:17, 22 February 2010 (UTC)
- I completely agree with TheFreeloader. Your role as admin in closing the discussion for a requested move is to determine the consensus of others. Instead, you basically determined the move by casting your own !vote, overriding everyone else. Erik (talk) 17:42, 22 February 2010 (UTC)

- There are a couple of issues with the edits SeekerAfterTruth has been making – they include description which isn't in the source, and they seem to be giving undue weight in biographies to a specific vote in 2007 on no more basis than SeekerAfterTruth's assertion that it's very important. Vandalism
Information on the state of play of political parties from before the 2007 General election is largely out of date 3 years later. It isn't "Vandalism" to attempt to update and shorten articles by removing comment from prior to that date. For instance, references to Fianna Fail's former leader - Bertie Ahern - is just ancient history. Likewise comments about Sinn Fein growing in the Republic of Ireland are out of date.
Also, the article is inaccurate. It is headed "Politics in the Republic of Ireland" but has a table that includes a column for the number of elected members of the Northern Ireland assembly! Even then it isn't constitent, the number of Sinn Fein members of the Northern Ireland Assembly is listed, that of the Green Party is not.
So do you really think that users want an out-of-date Wiki entry? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 86.24.203.212 (talk) 00:04, 24 February 2010 (UTC)
- Wikipedia's an encyclopaedia, not a news or blog site. Users will often use Wikipedia to find out about the history of a topic. Therefore all history is relevant. The vast majority of article grow in size as their history is updated. If there are errors or omissions then correct those - not forgetting to add an edit summary so all editors known why the data had been added. Ronhjones (Talk) 00:08, 24 February 2010 (UTC)
Huggle
Hi. It seems that the talk page warnings that you are issuing with Huggle are not taking account of existing warnings. So, for example, if I have already issued a level 1 warning, huggle is just adding a new level 1 warning, and I am having to go back in and add an escalated warning, which is not ideal. Just to let you know. Thanks TigerShark (talk) 00:20, 24 February 2010 (UTC)
- Huggle only counts the "standard" (WP:WARN) & "huggle" warnings. You seem to be using some sort of unknown "test" warnings - it will not count those. Ronhjones (Talk) 00:27, 24 February 2010 (UTC)
- Does it show you a preview of the talk page, or does it just blindly add them? TigerShark (talk) 00:32, 24 February 2010 (UTC)
- It's automatic, it counts them up to 4 and then on 5 reports to WP:AIV. Sadly, it can't block any more, I have to fire up Firefox and do that manually. Ronhjones (Talk) 00:34, 24 February 2010 (UTC)
- OK, bit of a pain, but never mind. Thanks for clarifying. Cheers TigerShark (talk) 00:39, 24 February 2010 (UTC)

Stereotypes of White People
Hello, I have two messages which say I have vandalized the page above. I have never been to the page above, much less made any changes to it. While this is a work computer, it is not a shared IP, so there must be some mistake. Thanks, 65.88.88.164 (talk) 22:29, 24 February 2010 (UTC)David
- If it's a Work computer, then it is a shared IP. Note THESE edits. Ronhjones (Talk) 22:31, 24 February 2010 (UTC)
February 18 blocking of User:71.100.31.227
I see that you are among many who have blocked User:71.100.31.227. You must be familiar with this person's work, if you blocked him/her for a month. ----DanTD (talk) 16:34, 25 February 2010 (UTC)
- I can't remember the full circumstances of the blocking - sometimes I see it all happening in huggle, other times just from seeing a report at WP:AIV, and then checking the edits. It quite reasonable to think that this is a vandalism account - following the expiration a one week block they start their old ways with this. It's normal for block lengths to increase each time - especially so soon after one has expired. Ronhjones (Talk) 19:45, 25 February 2010 (UTC)
Michael Tarver aka Tyrone Evans
I was friends with both Tyrone Sr. and Jr. in Kent, OH in the mid 1990's This is in fact true what I posted.
- It may be true, but it cannot be put here without a reliable source Ronhjones (Talk) 21:51, 25 February 2010 (UTC)
