Thank you
[edit]Thank you for welcoming me to the Politics project. I would very much like to join in and make this project more active, but I doubt that I will have the opportunity to devout all the time such a project really deserves. I have added a few stubs (not even stubs, really, merely a link off-site) on the International Political Science Association, European Consortium for Political Research and International Social Science Council, just in order to get the red ink off "my" article on Stein Rokkan. If you know someone competent who can extract some information out of these links and make them into real stubs, at least, it would be appreciated.

[edit]Sorry for pulling the rug out from under you by deleting that page. I've been monitoring Special:Newpages and that article, as it stood, qualified for speedy deletion (#3 - rephrasing of the title). Don't let it stop you from creating an encyclopedic article out of it though. :) RADICALBENDER★ 02:35, August 27, 2005 (UTC)

[edit]Hi robert - you left a message about a reply but I stupidly forget where I put the original comment. I think it was about the philosophy pages? user: dbuckner

Welcome to WikiProject Politics!
[edit]Robert, apologies for not personally welcoming you to the project yet, and many thanks for signing up so soon after its inception. Both the Portal and WikiProject pages are more or less up and running now, and the project page has a list of start-up tasks on there. At the moment, my main concern is to compile all categories relating to Politics and somehow present a useful selection of these on the Portal, but it would be just as helpful to start adding other tasks on the project page to keep everyone busy.
I note from the particpants list that you're willing to help with category maintenance, which is very useful indeed as categories aren't my strong point. As I said, I'd very much like to 'suss out' what's going with politics categories - both for a navigation aid on the Portal page and to help the project keep things organised. I'm going to create a subpage on the Project (there'll be a link on the task console) to compile a list (or tree) - I'm sure you have better ideas on this than me, so leave a note on the project talk page if you know how we should go about this. Many thanks, --HighHopes (T)⋅( )⋅(C)⋅(E)⋅(P) 11:26, 28 September 2005 (UTC)
I greatly appreciate all the help you've given me. I looked into the save path configuration and left a note on your metawiki talk page. If you're busy, there is no need to take time out to help little 'ol me, I'm sure the solution is somewhere within this Wiki and I'm bound to find it.
I would like to contibute to wikipedia regularly, but have trouble finding anything I know more about than is already here. If there's some work that needs to be done, feel free to post on my talk page and I'll get to work on it. Mostly I just use Wikipedia to do school research, and create a page when I cannot find it here.

[edit]Many of the stats, like those in the Wikimedia Quarto, come from Erik Zachte's fine statistics pages, using suitable rules of thumb to get quick numbers out of the details. That page is definitely out of date, however, and needs more photos and quotes (both text, audio, and video). sj
WikiProject Politics
[edit]I've put a notice on the Project page to suggest the Project be closed down. Shortly after starting it up I was away for over a month, and on returning realised that it's just too broad - looking at some of the more successful projects, they all focus on a narrow area were WP's content was significantly lacking and would therefore benefit from a concerted collaborative effort.
I do, however, intend to maintain the Portal and keep it updated. If you would like to help with this, drop a note at the Portal talkpage (or mine). I would like to set up a notice board of sorts to organise the efforts of those who want to keep the Portal going - apart from regularly showcasing new content and the news, those involved with the Portal can still help with things like voting for FA status and so forth, so it'd be good if you want to help out in this area. Thanks, --HighHopes (T)⋅( )⋅(C)⋅(E)⋅(P) 13:22, 12 November 2005 (UTC)
Regarding edits by 216.144.203.22 and myself on politics related stub templates
[edit]Please forgive me as I may ramble. I am a member of Wikipedia:WikiProject Politics and I have a couple of comments regarding the reverts that you made. Firstly, I apologize for causing you so much trouble today. The suggestion to amend the stub templates was around since the project inception and I had just recently began to follow-through on that suggestion, with only a couple done. I had only done a couple because I was not sure how the changes would be received and I would have changed them back if there were problems. Also, please do not think badly of User:216.144.203.22, this user thought that it would be helpful to do some grunt work. I, of course, would have preferred to discuss the changes than see anybody work for nothing, but I did not know beforehand who, if anybody, might object to the changes. Again, sorry for the trouble. --Robert Harrisontalk contrib 23:31, 5 December 2005 (UTC)
- I understand the idea behind linking the stub templates to the WikiProject. The problem with that sort of change is that it implies a sort of "ownership" of the articles by a particular WikiProject, and that by editing an article, someone is helping a specific project, rather than helping Wikipedia as a whole. Also, some of the more detailed stub types could legitimately link to many projects: a hypothetical stub tag for New Jersey state highways could link to WikiProject New Jersey, WikiProject Highways, and WikiProject Transportation. --Carnildo 19:20, 6 December 2005 (UTC)
Politics Project Newcomer
[edit]Hello Robert Harrison! You can call me Bill. I've got a Ph.D. in political science. I'd like to discuss what politics is all about, what political science is and isn't, and I'd love to argue about the scope and methods appropriate to political analysis. Of course, these are career goals rather than projects to complete before the end of the year. Hey, check out my article entitled Progressive logic. Maybe you'll vote, on the deletion page, to keep it.
Have a nice x-mas! Wjkellpro 22:30, 22 December 2005 (UTC)

Restarting the whole seed wiki idea with Wikikernel
[edit]I saw a comment that you made on meta and I'd like to get your input with a new project proposal I've started on Meta that is essentially a restart of the seed wiki concept that has been kicking around for some time. I have been an outspoken critic of the apparent (even if not actual) apathy that the Wikimedia Foundation has shown toward the pile of suggestions for new projects on Meta. I have a definite vision toward this proposal, but it definitely needs some additional input from various contributors, especially those with some strong opinions on the topic.
Any comments or suggestions on my project proposal would be significantly appreciated. I've seen far too many useful ideas get shot down on Meta without even a second thought of what might have been something incredibly useful for all Wikimedia projects, or at least this user community. --Robert Horning 10:05, 19 March 2006 (UTC)
portal
[edit]Hi Robert,
You've written to me several times and I have not replied. I think the portal project isa good one and the template looks good.
I am an irregular (that doesn't mean that one of my legs is shorter than the other) contributer but will be happy to help out when I can.

Hello, this is a message from an automated bot. A tag has been placed on Image:ImposterPoster.jpg, by Grandpafootsoldier, another Wikipedia user, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. The tag claims that it should be speedily deleted because Image:ImposterPoster.jpg fits the criteria for speedy deletion for the following reason:
To contest the tagging and request that administrators wait before possibly deleting Image:ImposterPoster.jpg, please affix the template {{hangon}} to the page, and put a note on its talk page. If the article has already been deleted, see the advice and instructions at WP:WMD. Please note, this bot is only informing you of the nomination for speedy deletion, it did not nominate Image:ImposterPoster.jpg itself.
