St. Stephen's School

I'm pretty sure that St. Stephen's has got over 2000 students over both campuses. I'm in Year 12 (this year :D) at Duncraig...but I think that there is about 150 students in each high school year group, and 30 students in each class in primary school (double-streaming for years 5-7). Therefore there should be about 5*150 6*30 2*3*30=1110 students per campus. Again, I'm not too sure about Carramar.

Also, it's probably better to cite "well-regarded" - for a lot of students, it seems anything but. Although I quite like it :) I heart duff 01:54, 9 January 2007 (UTC)

My Request for Adminship

Thanks for contributing to my RfA! Thank you for your support in my my RfA, which passed with a tally of 117/0/1. An editor has nominated the article Meanings of asteroid names (139001-140000) for deletion, under the Articles for deletion process. We appreciate your contributions, but the nominator doesn't believe it satisfies Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and has explained why in the nomination (also see What Wikipedia is not and Deletion policy). Your opinions on why the topic of the article meets inclusion criteria and what should be done with the article are welcome: participate in the discussion by editing Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Meanings of asteroid names (139001-140000). Add four tildes like this ˜˜˜˜ to sign your comments. You can also edit the article Meanings of asteroid names (139001-140000) during the discussion, but do not remove the "Articles for Deletion" template (the box at the top of the article), this will not end the deletion debate. Image:ShannonNoll62908.jpg

Thanks for uploading Image:ShannonNoll62908.jpg. I notice the 'image' page specifies that the image is being used under fair use, but its use in Wikipedia articles fails our first fair use criterion in that it illustrates a subject for which a freely licensed image could reasonably be found or created that provides substantially the same information. If you believe this image is not replaceable, please:

  1. Go to the image description page and edit it to add {{Replaceable fair use disputed}}, without deleting the original Replaceable fair use template.
  2. On the image discussion page, write the reason why this image is not replaceable at all.

Alternatively, you can also choose to replace the fair use image by finding a freely licensed image of its subject, requesting that the copyright holder release this (or a similar) image under a free license, or by taking a picture of it yourself.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified how these images fully satisfy our fair use criteria. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on this link. Note that any fair use images which are replaceable by free-licensed alternatives will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. —Angr 12:48, 27 January 2007 (UTC)

Re: Australian category scales

Category 5 Severe Tropical Cyclone Larry 4

Yes I'm concerned about it too. The problem is we need a useful global comparative scale (Beaufort scale would be junk for example); and the SSHS is the most suitable candidate for that. It is readily usable with all other scales; except for the Australian one - because of the fact they are both numerical. For example, the SW Indian Anita does this well. This makes me think the best way forward here would be to ignore the fact the Aussie scale is numerical and just use it as if it was text. The top of the infobox in the season for Cyclone Larry could then look like that to the right. The section header would be "Cyclone Larry", which is how it is known locally (and globally). The full local designation is given, and the global equivalence (thru SSHS) is given. Its not perfect, but I think it is a reasonable solution.--Nilfanion (talk) 12:25, 4 March 2007 (UTC)

The convention that I've seen in nearly every article is that only national charts and the very occasional minor Billboard chart (Pop 100, Rhythmic Top 40, etc.) are used. I've responded at Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Songs as not to scatter the discussion. You may also want to see if Velten has any input (she added the message about WP:SONG). ShadowHalo 01:47, 14 March 2007 (UTC)

A little while back I believe I read somewhere within the Project that the UWC should not be included in the information box; however, seeing how I can no longer locate it there, perhaps opening an avid discussion would be best since a consensus has yet to be reached. Larry

(cross-posted from Talk:Cyclone Larry)

Question is, when was the BOM report last updated? The news article does not say that it was downgraded *at landfall*, and the BOM report itself says it made landfall as a 4. I believe the news article means the BOM has downgraded it from its peak. I'm willing to email the BOM to ask, if needed. – Chacor 13:10, 22 March 2007 (UTC)

I've emailed the BOM now, so we'll see what they say I suppose. – Chacor 13:27, 22 March 2007 (UTC)
OK, we will wait til BOM replies. Regarding the question about when it was updated: a BOM pdf report on Larry which gives similar info was created on 20th March 2007, 8:42 am. RaNdOm26 09:33, 23 March 2007 (UTC)
Interesting. Well, an initial email reply from the BOM would suggest that it retained Cat5 status at peak, but they said to email back if I had further queries, so I did. I'm expecting a reply on Monday from the QLD tech officer. Hopefully then we'll know for sure. Cheers, – Chacor 10:02, 23 March 2007 (UTC)

JTWC acknowledged in its 21Z warning (18Z operational) on the 26th that a peak of 105 kt had been reached around 06Z (despite their 06Z saying 65 kt).

Wow, that's really weird. Didn't know they changed it so high! RaNdOm26 16:19, 30 March 2007 (UTC)
Yeah. I asked Gary Padgett about it and he said it was rare for JTWC to pretty much acknowledge such a mistake. – Chacor 16:24, 30 March 2007 (UTC)

RE: List of Australian Idol commercial releases

Both of Joel Turner's record companies have reported that 'These Kids' achieved double platinum status:

http://www.coathanger.com.au/dreamdealers/press/index.html

http://www.centralstation.com.au/newsdesk_info.php?cPath=1&newsdesk_id=146

202.138.63.119 12:58, 3 April 2007 (UTC)

The reason I changed to platinum is because the ARIA website, the official source for accreditations, says the single only reached platinum status, here. However, the 2005 and 2006 singles pages didn't say anything about the song becoming 2x platinum. I often see a lot of websites that give information that's different from the ARIA website. By the way, the two sources above say that his debut album reached gold, but the ARIA site says it in fact went platinum, here. RaNdOm26 07:17, 4 April 2007 (UTC)

If you're referring to the accreditations at http://www.aria.com.au/pages/aria-charts-accreditations.htm I noticed a while back that they tended to only mention the accreditations received during the year of the first accreditation. A lot of this has since been corrected, but unfortunately not in the case of These Kids. These Kids received its first platinum award in 2004 (as listed) but it did not receive the second until 2005 (which they have overlooked). If you would like to check, I have many other sources besides the two I have listed that confirm the double platinum status. If ARIA disputes this, I'm happy for the platinum status to stand, but I trust the record company would know how many platinum awards they have received. Also, with regard to the sources saying the album only reached gold, the article on Mark Holden's website is old, and the article on the Central Station website does in fact read "The album continued to chart successfully for Joel and MDP, and finally achieved Platinum sales status". I understand that you feel the ARIA website is the best source for information, but unfortunately they have made an oversight. I can't force you to accept the double platinum status, but I am 100% sure it is correct. Please consider this. 202.138.63.72 12:24, 10 April 2007 (UTC)

OK, that's fine. I found another website that says the same thing too, so. RaNdOm26 16:08, 11 April 2007 (UTC)

Thankyou. I have made the alteration on the page. 202.138.63.120 10:18, 12 April 2007 (UTC)

Southeast Indian Ocean/SW Pacific

Re [2]: Officially, they are one basin. They share a tropical cyclone operational plan - TCP24, which says it is the "TROPICAL CYCLONE OPERATIONAL PLAN FOR THE SOUTH PACIFIC AND SOUTH-EAST INDIAN OCEAN", and this includes the four Australian sub-basins. – Chacor 07:12, 5 April 2007 (UTC)

Here's the TCOP, btw. – Chacor 07:13, 5 April 2007 (UTC)

To be honest, I'm not sure. I have not seen the RA IV Tropical Cyclone Operational Plan; I couldn't possibly tell. I suppose one of the reasons there is ambiguity in the SEIO/SWPac is that there are no real set boundaries as to where the SE Indian Ocean ends and the SW Pacific begins (as officially, there's no "Australian region" basin). I suppose that the article could be edited to make clear that there's no official "Australian region", but for simplicity and clarity's sake we've chosen to split the SEIO/SWP into Australia and Fiji/Wellington. – Chacor 08:20, 5 April 2007 (UTC)
This change should solve it, as it removes mentions of basins and instead refers to them as formation areas. Cheers! – Chacor 08:30, 5 April 2007 (UTC)

Welcome, and thank you for experimenting with the page Tapping, Western Australia on Wikipedia. Your test worked, and it has been reverted or removed. Please take a look at the welcome page to learn more about contributing to our encyclopedia. If you would like to experiment, please use the sandbox. It's not WP's place to maintain information about bus route directions, as this is mercurial information. It's also inconsistent with the transport information conventions used in other australian suburb articles and the delivery of specific information is best left up to the relevant bus company. -- thewinchester 02:56, 10 April 2007 (UTC)

  • Thanks for getting in touch. As it stands the Tapping article is a good sample for the amount of information that's relevant on transport. Another is Heathridge, Western Australia which also includes a railway line. Nobody seems to be going further than that, and there does not seem to be a need to at this time. If you've got some suggestions, drop into the talk page for WP:WA -- thewinchester 04:32, 10 April 2007 (UTC)
If you want to get utterly extreme, Hamersley, Western Australia recently got featured with quite detailed public transport information. However, that was in the context of quite a large and comprehensive article. Duncraig and Heathridge are good in different ways. Duncraig is a *huge* suburb so the road isn't so much a directional as a locator. For a suburb like Beldon it would hardly be necessary to document roads, for example. The system at Heathridge is very like one used on Brisbane articles. The standard is still a little haphazard at the moment, but it's a matter of just getting it in balance... I think one will develop with time and will be able to incorporate what the majority of people think is reasonable. (Disclaimer: I wrote most of Hamersley and Duncraig.) 2006-07 Southern Hemisphere splits

You forgot one thing when you split off the South-West Indian Ocean - you need to say you're splitting the content somewhere in an edit summary, or else we have problems with the GFDL. You can remove the section from the main article, just say you're splitting it to 2006-07 South-West Indian Ocean cyclone season in your edit summary. --Coredesat 06:30, 22 April 2007 (UTC)

OK, I'll do it. Now you said it, please don't create them OK?, don't like edit conflicts! RaNdOm26 06:35, 22 April 2007 (UTC)
All right. All I did was remove the section you already split, so you should be good to go. :P Don't forget to turn the main season article into a dab and change its assessment to Dab-class (remove its importance). --Coredesat 06:36, 22 April 2007 (UTC)

Good work on the splits, I went ahead and added {{hurricane}} to the respective talk pages. --Coredesat 07:26, 22 April 2007 (UTC)

Thanks! I tried to add in {{hurricane}} too, then got edit conflicted three times! grrr:) RaNdOm26 07:28, 22 April 2007 (UTC)

The gimmicky templates for references almost all go against the basic Wikipedia approach in that they create problems for people with visual impairments (as well as for people using small screens when Web-browsing. --Mel Etitis (Talk) 12:42, 12 May 2007 (UTC)

First, please keep your edit summaries purely descriptive and civil. Secondly, the use of tables instead of lists in cases like this is not in accordance with either the MoS or the relevant WikiProjects. Thirdly, your insistence on re-adding interwikis for a different article is baffling. Finally, entries for nominations have been removed from many articles; discussions at other pages has reached consensus that they're no notable. Why do you think that a nomination that doesn't lead to an award should be included (beyond the fact that they make lists longer and give the appearance of greater prestige, which is PoV? --Mel Etitis (Talk) 22:47, 24 May 2007 (UTC)

Image:DamienLeithPromo65907.jpg

Thanks for uploading Image:DamienLeithPromo65907.jpg.

Note that fair use images which could be replaced by free-licensed alternatives will be deleted 7 days after this notification, per our Fair Use policy. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Ilse@ 08:59, 11 June 2007 (UTC)

re:Images of people

Hey Random! I personally think that there is no reason why images of a band which is still performing/still well known should be unfree - I try to replace band images where I can, as well as those of individuals. Basically - one could claim fair use for an unfree image of a band, but I think that's only fair if the band has stopped performing, or never performed live, or one of the members has passed away... etc. I'm slightly agressive about nonfree content though ;) Riana 17:39, 17 June 2007 (UTC)

Re:ARIA Report Archives

Hey, thanks for commenting. I'm not really sure about other websites holding ARIA information besides pandora web achive and australian-charts but I search through some forums and are able to find some albums peaks before 2001, this site for example [3]. I have David Kent's Australian Chart Book 1993 - 2005 but the positions are not official (close though) but the weeks in charts are about the same, i am also planning to get David Kent's Chart Book 1970-1992, wich has official chart peaks until June 1988, so if you want any request feel free to ask me. You could also email ARIA at [email protected] but it takes ages for them to reply. Sorry I could not have been more help but ARIA has stated on the official website "ARIA is in the process of reviewing and redeveloping its web presence to increase the interactivity of the chart and include some access to archival chart information" [4] so hopefully that will be soon :). About those succession boxes

I see you have now added a UK succession box to Back to Bedlam to go with the ARIA one. Generally speaking, I find succession boxes to be useless information and simply another way to add internal links to articles that are essentially unrelated, thus falsely boosting google rankings. However, in this case, my biggest problem with the ones you have added is that they are poorly formatted. The songs are not on the same line as the dates to which they refer (making them difficult to interpret), the font size is too large, and they take up way too much space. Too much of this article is taken up by charts as it is, and these are the least useful of them, so I will be deleting them. I encourage you to take the time to reconsider the format you are using, bearing in mind my comments in the earlier sentence. NB- I will copy this comment over to the talk page of the article as an explanation there for my edit, but I did want to personally let you know why I have deleted these charts. Image for Powderfinger

Hey mate...since the other Powderfinger image will be deleted (it does fail policy, you're correct), I was wondering if you could have a look at some other images before I start uploading new ones. [5] [6] - If you were to pick one (I think they both show the whole band), which would it be? Both are public (Creative Commons) by the way. Thanks for all your help, Giggy Talk 09:10, 10 August 2007 (UTC)

Orphaned non-free media (Image:88697076742.jpg)

Thanks for uploading Image:88697076742.jpg. The media description page currently specifies that it is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, it is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the media was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that media for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that all non-free media not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. BetacommandBot 09:01, 18 August 2007 (UTC)

Powderfinger images

Hi Random. Sorry, I'm not a regular user of Flickr and don't really know about these sort of things... I'll try and avoid making that mistake in future uploads. If you want more images, the Flickr user has an absolute heap of images (see her Flickr profile page). Good luck! :) Sebi [talk] 10:28, 14 September 2007 (UTC)

The Photographer's Barnstar
You and Sebi both deserve this award for the outstanding work you put into image searching while I was sleeping, oh so comfortably! Enjoy the award, and use it well! Dihydrogen Monoxide (H2O) 00:37, 15 September 2007 (UTC)

re: Points on Maroon 5 Discography

Hi Random26!I'm an italian boy, so if my english isn't very good i think you'll understand;-) what points exactly mean is the amount of single-sales and paid download stats from many countries (U.S.A., UK...). Check on http://www.mediatraffic.de/previous2.htm and then look at the weekly charts! —Preceding unsigned comment added by Pie85 (talkcontribs) 17:40, 29 September 2007 (UTC)

Per your comments here, I wanted to ask you about citing the music video. Are we allowed to/able to do so, or we have to have an independent source confirm it? I removed the section for now, but if we can cite the video then there's no reason not to keep it. What are your thoughts?  — Dihydrogen Monoxide (H2O) 09:56, 1 October 2007 (UTC)

Actually, it turns out we have a Template:Cite video designed for this sort of thing. I'll fix the lead, and then the article should almost be at GA standard.  — Dihydrogen Monoxide (H2O) 10:17, 1 October 2007 (UTC)

re: Point Values

Hi! Yep, I add them together every week;-) P.S. Could you please tell me how to answer to the messages received in my talk page?i really don't understand...and usually i have to start a new section in the discussion page...is it correct? Thanks! Pie85 —Preceding unsigned comment added by Pie85 (talkcontribs) 09:02, 3 October 2007 (UTC)

Yes, I'm very very new to these kind of stuff! thank u for your suggestions...i'll try to do my best! About the "Maroon 5 Discography"...well, i'm getting involved in charting their songs and so on:-).I'd like to make more and more but i'm not used to writing in english...until now, i've added only numbers! I've noticed you understand a little of Italian...Complimenti! Saluti dall'Italia! Pie85 08:24, 4 October 2007 (UTC)

What a pity...!L'italiano è una lingua bellissima...così come l'inglese! From the other side of the world, Pietro! Pie85 08:09, 5 October 2007 (UTC)

Samples

Hint: check the image description file ;-) The version of Audacity I'm using is noted there - I basically just crop the MP3s, then save the project as an ogg. Dihydrogen Monoxide (H2O) 09:42, 7 October 2007 (UTC)

FL Main page proposal

You nominated a current WP:FLC. As such, you are the type of editor whose opinion I am soliciting. We now have over 400 featured lists and seem to be promoting in excess of 30 per month of late (41 in August and 42 in September). When Today's featured article (TFA) started (2004-02-22), they only had about 200 featured articles and were barely promoting 20 new ones per month. I think the quality of featured lists is at least as good as the quality of featured articles was when they started appearing on the main page. Thus, I am ready to open debate on a proposal to institute a List of the Day on the main page with nominations starting November 1 2007, voting starting December 1 2007 and main page appearances starting January 1 2008. For brevity, the proposal page does not discuss the details of eventual main page content, but since the work has already been done, you should consider this proposal assuming the eventual main page will resemble either an excerpted list format or an abbreviated text format. The proposal page does not debate whether starting with weekly list main page entries would be better than daily entries. However, I suspect persons in favor of weekly lists are really voicing opinions against lists on the main page since neither TFA nor Picture of the day started as weekly endeavors, to the best of my knowledge. Right now debate seems to be among support for the current selective democratic/consensus based proposal, a selective dictatorial approach like that used at WP:TFA or a non-selective first in line/calendar approach like that used at WP:POTD. See the List of the Day proposal and comment at WP:LOTDP and its talk page.--TonyTheTiger (t/c/bio/tcfkaWCDbwincowtchatlotpsoplrttaDCLaM) 16:21, 16 October 2007 (UTC)

Vulture Street

Sometime soon...by the way, what happened to your userpage? Dihydrogen Monoxide (H2O) 23:28, 19 October 2007 (UTC)

I'll get to it sometime...a lot of my editing is mood based, and (here comes a kickass pun) I just don't have Vulture Street on my mind right now :p Dihydrogen Monoxide (H2O) 07:01, 22 October 2007 (UTC)

I've made a few minor edits, and supported the FLC. I'll also watchlist it and try to help out. Dihydrogen Monoxide 09:48, 9 November 2007 (UTC)

{{reflist|2}} sorts the refs into 2 columns for easier browsing. It works in Firefox - are you using Internet Explorer? Dihydrogen Monoxide 10:46, 9 November 2007 (UTC)
Oh, I see, didn't know that before. That's because I use Safari, and sometimes IE, but never Firefox. RaNdOm26 12:56, 11 November 2007 (UTC)

Hi!, I know this might seem unusual, but could you please review the article in question as the nomination ends on the 12th of november and am worried it might not get enough nominations before the deadline.

Many thanks.Marcus Bowen 13:09, 9 November 2007 (UTC)

Mark Ronson Ft. Mary J. Blige - "Wake Up Call (Remix)"

Hi, I'm Pietro the Italian guy! What's up? As you can see from the headline, if you go to maroon5.com on november 13 it will be available on line the remix of Wake Up Call...would you mind writing something about it?you know..i'm not so good in wikipedia, in writing correct english and so on...If you don't want to, ask someone to help you;-) Let me know, bye! Thank you

Thanks for telling me

That was strange, I was linking to the direct little file things the BOM gives you when you ask for direct data, they must time out after a while.

Thanks for letting me know, I've reverted my edits.

Updated DYK query On 27 November, 2007, Did you know? was updated with a fact from the article Here I Am (Natalie Gauci song), which you created or substantially expanded. If you know of another interesting fact from a recently created article, then please suggest it on the Did you know? talk page.

WP:LOTD

You are the nominator of a WP:FL that was promoted in the last month. I am inviting you to participate in nominations and voting in a List of the Day experiment I am conducting at WP:LOTD.--TonyTheTiger (t/c/bio/WP:CHICAGO/WP:LOTD) 00:04, 11 December 2007 (UTC)

Hey, Can I get your input on the ongoing dispute at this article please. There are attempts to remove the Timbaland chronology for "lack of authorship"! regards Nouse4aname (talk) 20:15, 11 December 2007 (UTC)

Thanks for your input. You're right, it is stubborn behaviour, which is getting very irritating now. I have suggested compromise, opened discussion and yet (s)he insists they must be right. At least we are forming a consensus now, which is clearly to keep the Timbaland chronology. However, I doubt that he will adhere to this, as they have already stated that compromise is not the way to go! Not quite sure they understand how wikipedia works! Anyway, thanks again. Nouse4aname (talk) 10:01, 12 December 2007 (UTC)
Oh, and thanks for your examples too. I'm not exactly hip and happening with remixers, producers etc, so don't really know where to look! Nouse4aname (talk) 10:04, 12 December 2007 (UTC)
