Marathon Petroleum Corporation Logo Assistance
[edit]Hello, I noticed that you have made some edits to the Marathon Petroleum Corporation page in the past and I was hoping you could help me replace the logo that is there now. The logo for branded Marathon retail gas stations was updated recently but not the the corporate one. "...the retail brand debuted a new Endurance image, including a retooled logo..." https://csnews.com/marathon-petroleum-goes-live-new-retail-brand-campaign https://csnews.com/marathon-unveils-new-image-branded-gas-stations
The accurate logo can be found on the Marathon Petroleum Corporation website here: https://www.marathonpetroleum.com/Newsroom/Corporate-Logos-and-Standards/ Is this something you would be able to help with? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2601:19B:8301:B5A0:241F:9AA:2CD6:28C3 (talk) 15:12, 1 November 2024 (UTC)
- 2601:19B:8301:B5A0:241F:9AA:2CD6:28C3, hi! I don't really see the difference in logos. Regardless, the place to go is Wikipedia:Files for upload to upload the new logo. Then once it gets uploaded, you can replace the current one in the article with the new one. DOes that help? — Qwerfjkltalk 15:21, 1 November 2024 (UTC)
- Yes, this should help.
- The logos are very similar but if you'll notice the text in the logo is all caps for the refinery business, while the retail brand uses some lower case letters.
- In any case, this should help me.
- Thank you! 2601:19B:8301:B5A0:1F7:3086:7200:76E8 (talk) 19:09, 20 November 2024 (UTC)

Hi can you help me create these pages? Mycrushrajveer (talk) 03:51, 2 November 2024 (UTC)
- Mycrushrajveer, what exactly would youi like help with? I can see the three drafts are about actresses, so please make sure they pass the notability guideline before writing the articles - they will be declined if they're not notable. You'll also need to find some sources for the articles. — Qwerfjkltalk 11:44, 2 November 2024 (UTC)
- I am following Pranali Rathod page. Is that ok? How can I create a direct article like Pranali's article? Mycrushrajveer (talk) 07:25, 3 November 2024 (UTC)
- You can press the Submit draft for review button to submit the draft. Note that none of the articles are yet ready to be articles, so if you do so they will be declined. — Qwerfjkltalk 11:13, 3 November 2024 (UTC)

[edit]Latest tech news from the Wikimedia technical community. Please tell other users about these changes. Not all changes will affect you. Translations are available.
Updates for editors
- Stewards can now make global account blocks cause global autoblocks. This will assist stewards in preventing abuse from users who have been globally blocked. This includes preventing globally blocked temporary accounts from exiting their session or switching browsers to make subsequent edits for 24 hours. Previously, temporary accounts could exit their current session or switch browsers to continue editing. This is an anti-abuse tool improvement for the Temporary Accounts project. You can read more about the progress on key features for temporary accounts. [1]
- Wikis that have the CampaignEvents extension enabled can now use the Collaboration List feature. This list provides a new, easy way for contributors to learn about WikiProjects on their wikis. Thanks to the Campaign team for this work that is part of the 2024/25 annual plan. If you are interested in bringing the CampaignEvents extension to your wiki, you can follow these steps or you can reach out to User:Udehb-WMF for help.
- The text color for red links will be slightly changed later this week to improve their contrast in light mode. [2]
- View all 32 community-submitted tasks that were resolved last week. For example, on multilingual wikis, users can now hide translations from the WhatLinksHere special page.
Updates for technical contributors
- XML data dumps have been temporarily paused whilst a bug is investigated. [3]
In depth
- Temporary Accounts have been deployed to six wikis; thanks to the Trust and Safety Product team for this work, you can read about the deployment plans. Beginning next week, Temporary Accounts will also be enabled on seven other projects. If you are active on these wikis and need help migrating your tools, please reach out to User:Udehb-WMF for assistance.
- The latest quarterly Language and Internationalization newsletter is available. It includes: New languages supported in translatewiki or in MediaWiki; New keyboard input methods for some languages; details about recent and upcoming meetings, and more.
Meetings and events
- MediaWiki Users and Developers Conference Fall 2024 is happening in Vienna, Austria and online from 4 to 6 November 2024. The conference will feature discussions around the usage of MediaWiki software by and within companies in different industries and will inspire and onboard new users.

[edit]I want to edit and create Poet's pages. Please suggest me. --Shailesh Gupta Veer (talk) 18:12, 7 November 2024 (UTC)
- Welcome! Creating a new article from scratch is extremely challenging, and new editors are strongly recommended to spend a few months learning how Wikipedia works, by making improvements to some of our existing seven million articles before trying it. When you do decide to have a go at a new article, you are highly encouraged to read WP:Your first article. If you haven't already also check out WP:TUTORIAL; it's a lot of fun! That said, when you want to have a go at writing an article, try Wikipedia:Requested articles/Arts and entertainment/Literature#Authors (poets, novelists and fiction writers) if you need a subject to write about; if you already have a subject in mind, just make sure they pass the general notability guidelines, so you don't waste your time. — Qwerfjkltalk 18:41, 7 November 2024 (UTC)

The Lockman Hole
[edit]I'm considering making an edit to the Lockman Hole article (Lockman Hole), after a brief mid-video interview with Jay Lockman himself where he voiced a preference for the name "Lockman Window".
I thought it might be a good courteous gesture of this community to change the beginning of the Lockman Hole article to read something more like "The Lockman Hole, or Lockman Window, is an area of the sky in which..."
Do you think this would be appropriate? Necessary Addition (talk) 20:00, 8 November 2024 (UTC)
- I should add the source, timestamped: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VWJBAGrG0ms&t=1474s Necessary Addition (talk) 22:06, 8 November 2024 (UTC)
- Necessary Addition, it would at least be worth creating a redirect at Lockman Window (which I've just done). I'm not familiar with the subject, so I don't not how common the term is - if it's unlikely to be known to most people who know the topic, it's probably not worth including - but feel free to be bold and edit it yourself — Qwerfjkltalk 15:42, 10 November 2024 (UTC)
Speedy deletion nomination of HH16 (disambiguation)
[edit]If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.
You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.
A tag has been placed on HH16 (disambiguation) requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G14 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because it is a disambiguation page which either
- disambiguates only one extant Wikipedia page and whose title ends in "(disambiguation)" (i.e., there is a primary topic);
- disambiguates zero extant Wikipedia pages, regardless of its title; or
- is an orphaned redirect with a title ending in "(disambiguation)" that does not target a disambiguation page or page that has a disambiguation-like function.
Under the criteria for speedy deletion, such pages may be deleted at any time. Please see the disambiguation page guidelines for more information.
If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and removing the speedy deletion tag. Shhhnotsoloud (talk) 09:33, 10 November 2024 (UTC)
Category:Incest in Greek mythology
[edit]Hi Qwerfjkl, earlier this year you closed the deletion discussion for Category:Incest in Greek mythology. [4] While I was the only editor in that discussion in favour of keeping the category, I don't think others really addressed my argument meaningfully, and I disagree with the category's deletion. I'm not really suggesting that you interpreted consensus incorrectly (I don't think you did), but rather that I don't think there was good reason for deletion. I was unsure whether WP:DELREV was the correct venue for this (as that seems to be for arguing that the closer misinterpreted consensus), so contacting you directly seemed logical. – Michael Aurel (talk) 01:28, 11 November 2024 (UTC)
- Michael Aurel, I think the best thing to do would be to start a discussion at WT:CFD and ping the participants to that discussion to see if you can work something out. — Qwerfjkltalk 07:54, 12 November 2024 (UTC)
- Ah ok, thanks, so there isn't an official process for this then. I might consult with the editor who created the category first, as since I left my initial comment here I've noticed that in the last month or two they created a similar but distinct category, Category:Mythological people involved in incest, but assuming they think it's necessary, I'll start a discussion at WT:CFD as you've recommended. – Michael Aurel (talk) 10:24, 12 November 2024 (UTC)

Tech News: 2024-46
[edit]Latest tech news from the Wikimedia technical community. Please tell other users about these changes. Not all changes will affect you. Translations are available.
Updates for editors
- On wikis with the Translate extension enabled, users will notice that the FuzzyBot will now automatically create translated versions of categories used on translated pages. [5]
- View all 29 community-submitted tasks that were resolved last week. For example, the submitted task to use the SecurePoll extension for English Wikipedia's special administrator election was resolved on time. [6]
Updates for technical contributors
- In
1.44.0-wmf-2
, the logic of Wikibase functiongetAllStatements
changed to behave likegetBestStatements
. Invoking the function now returns a copy of values which are immutable. [7] - Wikimedia REST API users, such as bot operators and tool maintainers, may be affected by ongoing upgrades. The API will be rerouting some page content endpoints from RESTbase to the newer MediaWiki REST API endpoints. The impacted endpoints include getting page/revision metadata and rendered HTML content. These changes will be available on testwiki later this week, with other projects to follow. This change should not affect existing functionality, but active users of the impacted endpoints should verify behavior on testwiki, and raise any concerns on the related Phabricator ticket.
In depth
- Admins and users of the Wikimedia projects where Automoderator is enabled can now monitor and evaluate important metrics related to Automoderator's actions. This Superset dashboard calculates and aggregates metrics about Automoderator's behaviour on the projects in which it is deployed. Thanks to the Moderator Tools team for this Dashboard; you can visit the documentation page for more information about this work. [8]

New Linter patterns
[edit]If you have time to run Task 31 against more patterns, I have a new batch collected from the signature submissions page in my sandbox. If you run a test edit against each of the patterns, I'll be happy to check the edits. Any idea how best to handle this? I suppose adding a space at the end of the find & replacement strings would work, though there might be other cases that have similar problems. — Qwerfjkltalk 21:02, 13 November 2024 (UTC)
- Yes, include a trailing space in the "find" and the "replace" string for the Bahamut signature. I do that all the time in my regexes. – Jonesey95 (talk) 21:12, 13 November 2024 (UTC)
- @Jonesey95, okay, I'll add the trailing whitespace for that and any other replacements that look like they could be vulnerable to this kind of problem. — Qwerfjkltalk 21:15, 13 November 2024 (UTC)

which returns no results. The total number of unique titles found is 24,437. Qwerfjkltalk 21:36, 13 November 2024 (UTC)- It appears that the Yellow Dingo signatures have been fixed; they were in a previous batch and it looks like I neglected to remove them from the table after that run. Are you taking bot requests?
[edit]Hey Qwerfjkl, I hope you're well. I was wondering, are you taking bot requests at the moment? I was looking for someone to schedule a regular task, perhaps once a week, to add Template:WikiProject National Football League to relevant pages which don't have it yet. Every now and then I use AWB to do so, and I think it'd be a pretty straight forward and reasonable bot task. I run a recursive search against Category:National Football League players by team, skip talk pages which have "WikiProject National Football League", "NFLproject", "WikiProject NFL", "WPNFL", or "WP NFL", and then manually add the WikiProject template. Assessments typically come later and I wouldn't be asking the bot operator to try to code any of that in, as my primary goal to simply tag them as relevant to the WikiProject. Thankfully, based on Wikipedia:WikiProject National Football League/Assessment, we're pretty good about going back around and adding a rating (though importance not so much), which is why I don't think this task would be in vain. Entirely understandable if you're not interested in taking on another task, but I know you're great at what you do and I appreciate your work, so I thought I'd make this my first stop. Hey man im josh (talk) 18:14, 13 November 2024 (UTC)
- @Hey man im josh, I can probably get round to this on the weekend. Have you had a discussion on the wikiproject talk page? - That would make the brfa a bit easier. I do have some code for this left over from WP:PIQA that I could probably repurpose for this task.
If desirable, I could use ORES for article quality ratings, perhaps restricting it to stub assessments which it's pretty accurate at. — Qwerfjkltalk 21:08, 13 November 2024 (UTC)- No rush! I'll start a discussion at the WikiProject about it. I kind of didn't even think it'd be necessary but that's an ignorant thought on my part. Just because I do something manually sometimes doesn't mean there shouldn't be consensus that a bot can take over :P I think with ORES restricting to stub might be a great idea, so I'll include that when starting the discussion. Hey man im josh (talk) 21:27, 13 November 2024 (UTC)
- It's probably not strictly neccessary, but BRFA is perpetually backlogged, so it's nice to make BRFAs as clear-cut as possible. Qwerfjkltalk 21:29, 13 November 2024 (UTC)

Task 31 oddities
[edit]This was an odd one. No lint errors at all on the page when it edited, but the bot still changed X to Y, and created an unclosed italics issue due to the closing italics being after the date/time and not matching the sig pattern. Thought it was worth noting that it created an issue in case that's something that can be prevented. If it's just a odd fluke, no big deal.
And I also see that the bot is only fixing half of Timbouctou's signature. It didn't fix the missing closer italics on the Timbouctou userpage link portion: (example 1 and example 2). If that's intentional and it'll fix the other part later, ok. Just found it surprising. Zinnober9 (talk) 00:41, 15 November 2024 (UTC)
- The first issue is due to the user putting tags after the timestamp. I've just modified their other signatures that do this. The second problem is simply because I don't have that replacement listed; I've added it now. Qwerfjkltalk 11:56, 16 November 2024 (UTC)

Question from TocaTheFrog (08:31, 18 November 2024)
[edit]Hello. Could I ask for some advice on creating a user page, I want it to show that I like memes and making jokes but also that I am passionate about cats, frogs and computers. --TocaTheFrog (talk) 08:31, 18 November 2024 (UTC)
- You can put whatever you want (within reason) on your userpage; see WP:User pages. You may want to find some userboxes to express yourself. — Qwerfjkltalk 15:21, 18 November 2024 (UTC)

[edit]Latest tech news from the Wikimedia technical community. Please tell other users about these changes. Not all changes will affect you. Translations are available.
Updates for editors
- Users of Wikimedia sites will now be warned when they create a redirect to a page that doesn't exist. This will reduce the number of broken redirects to red links in our projects. [9]
- View all 42 community-submitted tasks that were resolved last week. For example, Pywikibot, which automates work on MediaWiki sites, was upgraded to 9.5.0 on Toolforge. [10]
Updates for technical contributors
- On wikis that use the FlaggedRevs extension, pages created or moved by users with the appropriate permissions are marked as flagged automatically. This feature has not been working recently, and changes fixing it should be deployed this week. Thanks to Daniel and Wargo for working on this. [11][12]
In depth
- There is a new Diff post about Temporary Accounts, available in more than 15 languages. Read it to learn about what Temporary Accounts are, their impact on different groups of users, and the plan to introduce the change on all wikis.
Meetings and events
- Technical volunteers can now register for the 2025 Wikimedia Hackathon, which will take place in Istanbul, Turkey. Application for travel and accommodation scholarships is open from November 12 to December 10 2024. The registration for the event will close in mid-April 2025. The Wikimedia Hackathon is an annual gathering that unites the global technical community to collaborate on existing projects and explore new ideas.
- Join the Wikimedia Commons community calls this week to help prioritize support for Commons which will be planned for 2025–2026. The theme will be how content should be organised on Wikimedia Commons. This is an opportunity for volunteers who work on different things to come together and talk about what matters for the future of the project. The calls will take place November 21, 2024, 8:00 UTC and 16:00 UTC.
- A Language community meeting will take place November 29, 16:00 UTC to discuss updates and technical problem-solving.

Hello, I may need help finding some usable sources for my wiki page, considering there aren't many secondary sources out on the internet. There are mainly just primary sources and my page keeps getting denied. --JustNason (talk) 03:08, 20 November 2024 (UTC)
- @JustNason, if you can't find sources then the subject might not be notable under Wikipedia's guidelines. Qwerfjkltalk 17:28, 20 November 2024 (UTC)
- Alright, thank you. I will wait till I have more sources :) JustNason (talk) 22:53, 20 November 2024 (UTC)
