Barnstar

[edit]
I, FireFox hereby award you this Minor Barnstar for all your brilliant minor edits!

...and a Barnstar for you too!

Thank you.

[edit]

I appreciate your work on the soundtracks. Thank you very much. Now, I will get to work on converting the albums. It's going to be a blast, I can't wait! ;) Since you seem to like flowers, here's one that you might like. Gflores Talk 22:01, 11 November 2005 (UTC)[reply]

No problem, and thank you for the flower :) --Qirex 23:12, 11 November 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you

I added a Barnstar of Diligence to let you know that your hard work is appreciated. You've really done a lot of work and that's fantastic! Gflores Talk 07:22, 2 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Synthesizer

[edit]

About your suggested page merge: I hope you didn't feel too sheepish! You saw a possibility for a merge and honourably said so: I saw the argument against clearly, having recently tidied up musical keyboard. I hope you don't think I went over the top! Keep up the good work here on the Wiki. Best wishes. --RobertGtalk 14:06, 5 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Well, maybe not too sheepish. I certainly don't think that you went over the top in your reply; rather, the strength of your opinion, and that of EldKatt was useful to indicate to me that the merge was not appropriate and that there was little reason to leave the tags up on the pages. I think that it's important to express strong opinions strongly, and I'd do the same. --Qirex 14:35, 5 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for the additions

[edit]

Thanks for all of the help with the Donovan album pages. The album covers are especially nice and it adds a lot to the pages. However, is there a way you could change the Neutronica album cover? The picture on there is the CD reissue and not the original vinyl cover. You can find that here: http://www7a.biglobe.ne.jp/~mellow/neutronica_germany_front.jpg

I don't want to mess it up or change the size and resolution of the pics in comparison to the other Donovan album pics you've put up.

Again, thanks for all the additions and for cleaning things up!

--JDeMai

Cool, thanks for the link to the Neutronica album cover, I'll upload it. I do try to find an image of the LP cover when I can, but sometimes, since I'm not familiar with the majority of the albums I work on, I don't know what the cover is supposed to look like (this was the case with Neutronica), or can't find a good image of it. If you notice anything like this anywhere else, feel free to upload a better image. Don't worry about size and resolution, as long as it's at least 200 x 200 pixels, because on album pages, the image inside the infobox is resized automatically by wikipedia software. --Qirex 03:18, 15 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

"Humourous" in The Herd (band)

[edit]

I am not sure that this is correct, even in BrE/OzE. I have a feeling it sheds the "u" on its way to adjectival form. I appreciate the effort though. :)

Hey, I see you're a Melbournite! :) So am I. Do you know about the Wikipedia:Australian Wikipedians' notice board? And the Wikipedia:WikiProject Melbourne? Make sure you check them out, both are worth reading.

cheers, pfctdayelise 22:47, 9 December 2005 (UTC) (please reply on my Talk page, if necessary)[reply]

Yes, you're right. I think I was too sleepy when I noticed the change, and out of curiosity I visited Biot's talk page and saw that someone else had brought up the American / British spelling thing around the same time period and so I made assumptions before double-checking the actual spelling. I feel pretty silly now haha, I'll change it back of course. Cheers for the pointers to the two aussie pages, I will definitely check it out. ps. sorry it took so long to reply, I have been unable to edit any pages since saturday until now for some unknown reason. --Qirex 02:53, 15 December 2005 (UTC) (copied from User talk:Pfctdayelise)[reply]
You might have been a casualty from an IP block - you should let some admins know so that they are more careful blocking the IP(s) in question in the future. Post on WP:AN. (Actually... now I'm not sure if blocks mean you can't edit, or can't visit the site at all. Hmm. Might want to post on Wikipedia:Help desk then. pfctdayelise 03:27, 15 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for the notice on my talk and various other pages. I saw the change come up on my watchlist so I was waiting for the TfD section, but it helps to alert others. I knew the link was a bit unorthodox and had been trying to gather comments on it... the TfD should help to raise awareness and gather a consensus. --CBD 02:35, 23 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Anthrax discog

[edit]

Hey there. Thanks for your help with the formatting and superfluous linkage. I've noticed, though, that since the table formatting was altered, the album titles now "straddle" the vertical dividing line betwwwn their column and the one for the title. Can you double-check and see if this is just my browser being crap of if you also have the same problem? May need to roll back some of the formatting to fix. IainP (talk) 10:26, 13 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Humm... not sure what would cause that, it doesn't happen in my browser. I don't know how it works, but usually using class="wikitable" makes it so that the columns figure out how wide they need to be and wraps long text to the next line of the same cell, if need be. Does this problem happen to you with other class="wikitable" tables? eg. Hysteria (album) (scroll down), Prince discography, Mariah Carey singles discography, Wikipedia:Redirect --Qirex 10:51, 13 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Annoyingly, no. Just the Anthrax one. I compared against the Megadeth discography which also has album covers on (and set at the same 50px thumbnail size) and it's fine. Weird. On a closer look, the "headings" row is fine. From there on down, the line dividing the album sleeve and release date is offset about half a character to the right. Comparing Megadeth to Anthrax, there's much less space/padding either side of the image on the 'Deth one, and it has some parameters at the top of the wikitable. Incidentally, I'm using IE6 (yes, I know, I know... but it's a work's PC, I can't change it and 80% of people still use IE so it has to be catered for!). I'm going to copy the 'Deth parameters to the Anthrax table and see if that helps. I think it'll be the margin definition that'll help. IainP (talk) 11:48, 13 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Just did the opposite. Removed all the params on the 'Deth one and replaced with 'class="wikitable"'... and the columns go out of whack again. I'll tinker later this afternoon. IainP (talk) 11:50, 13 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Well I guess tinkering is all there is for it, maybe a post to Wikipedia:Help desk or Wikipedia:Village pump (technical) is in order though, because it seems like this kind of problem should not happen. If it is a browser thing then it needs to get fixed on our end because, as you say, IE6 is far from uncommon. When you asked if it was your browser being crap I assumed you had some archaic version or something :P Anyway, until this is sorted, if you haven't already, I'll rollback the formatting. Best of luck Qirex 11:59, 13 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Cheers for that. I'm away all weekend, but will investigate on Sunday night / early next week. IainP (talk) 13:17, 13 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

{{metal-song-stub}} and such

[edit]

A fine application of WP:IAR, especially with the tagging of plenty of articles :) Would've been abit better if you'd added it to WP:WSS/ST, but that's a minor thing. More importantly, is there any reason not to create Category:Metal songs (and also Category:Punk songs)? Mairi 03:09, 15 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Cheers, and no, I don't see any reason not to create those cats, it just didn't occur to me to be honest. I'm not too sure of the procedure/formatting of cats, so I'll do it now but it may take 15 mins or something. --Qirex 03:17, 15 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Cool; looks good. I only noticed because it because it's abit unusual to have stub categories without a corresponding main category. --Mairi 06:49, 15 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Category:Metal songs

[edit]

Hi Qirex. I notice that you just created Category:Metal songs. You probably did not know that there is already a similar, somewhat-well populated category, Category:Heavy metal songs. Also, songs like Alexander the Great (song) do not need to be included in either category because Category:Iron Maiden songs is a member of Category:Heavy metal songs. You might want to consider speedy deleting the category you just made. Let me know if I can help. ×Meegs 07:12, 15 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

There's also already a Category:Punk rock songs. ×Meegs 07:15, 15 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Argh... thanks for letting me know. I could have sworn I checked the metal one, although I admit I didn't check the punk one. Anyway, things being what they are, what I'd like to do is rename the existing category to "metal songs" because heavy metal is a subgenre of metal as a whole. How do I go about proposing and discussing/getting consensus for that? Also, I've tagged a few songs with Category:Metal songs, is it possible to make it into a redirect in the mean time? --Qirex 07:22, 15 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]
No, category redirects are not typically under normal circumstances. The Maiden and Sabbath ones, at least, are not necessary in any case — if there were to be a "Metal Songs" category, you could just add Category:Iron Maiden songs to it. I'll help you remove them if you want: You take Sabbath, I'll take Maiden? Let me know.
As far as renaming the older category to just Metal, you could nominate it for renaming at Wikipedia:Categories for deletion. There's a one week period for discussion similar to the AfD process. Honestly though, I do not recommend you do this, and especially not right now. There is an ongoing debate as to whether there should be a distinction made in the article space or not - and you will probably meet with massive resistance. Unless you feel really strongly and want to get-into a big thing, I recommend you just use Category:Heavy metal songs for right now. ×Meegs 07:40, 15 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you very much for the offer of help, but I'm happy (er.. happy enough) to take care of it. I'll certainly remember better in the future this way anyway :P
Yeah, I noticed that AfD discussion on the metal music article after I made the metal song stub and was looking for what to link to. I'll follow your advice and leave the heavy metal category be for the moment though. --Qirex 07:53, 15 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Your happiness is overwhelming :) Slightly related story... It used to drive me nuts the way people here on wikipedia are always changing genres back-and-forth on artist, album and song pages — especially to super-specific ones like Symphonic Gothic Doom Metal or worse, completely made-up ones. I finally decided to just ignore all edits about genre and avoid all of the discussions and disputes. And I've been sleeping better ever since. If you hold my feet to the fire, though, I'll argue that the most general labels (heavy metal music, rock and roll, or even as general as popular music) minimize conflict and are, at least, always accurate. ×Meegs 08:18, 15 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Hm?

[edit]

Hi, Quirex. I noticed a change of my edits labeled as "Vandelism". Everything mentioned there is complete truth, and factual. How come were the sections of the article "Teenhelp" considered to be vandelism?

I am sorry for this mistake, I realised when I clicked but it was too late to change it. I use some shorcuts to make it quicker to fill in the edit summaries and accidently used the one with the word "vandalism" when I meant to use the word "edit". I am sorry about this. --Qirex 03:53, 16 January 2006 (UTC) (copied from User talk:67.80.168.7)[reply]

RnB-song-stub

[edit]

I have created {{RnB-song-stub}} to sort R&B, soul music, and funk song articles. I had to do this when I saw songs like "Shout!" and "Burn (Usher song)" sorted as a hip-hop song (and summarily felt my eyes bug out of my head) :). Good work on the rest of the stub sorting, though. --FuriousFreddy 19:23, 29 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

The Template:Album infobox was recently updated so the chronology field is now optional. The Template:Album infobox soundtrack doesn't seem to have any serious advantages over using standard Template:Album infobox now, so perhaps it should be deleted? It's not widely used anyway. Hello, this is a message from an automated bot. A tag has been placed on Image:Blue Oyster Cult-Blue Oyster Cult.jpg, by Videmus Omnia (talk · contribs), another Wikipedia user, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. The tag claims that it should be speedily deleted because Image:Blue Oyster Cult-Blue Oyster Cult.jpg is an image with a clearly invalid fair use tag; or it is an image that fails some part of the non-free content criteria and the uploader has been given 48 hours' notification (for images uploaded after 2006-07-13) or seven days' notification (for images uploaded before that date). (CSD I7).

To contest the tagging and request that administrators wait before possibly deleting Image:Blue Oyster Cult-Blue Oyster Cult.jpg, please affix the template {{hangon}} to the page, and put a note on its talk page. If the article has already been deleted, see the advice and instructions at WP:WMD. Please note that this bot is only informing you of the nomination for speedy deletion; it did not nominate Image:Blue Oyster Cult-Blue Oyster Cult.jpg itself. Fair use rationale for Image:Roger_Waters-Ça_Ira.jpg

[edit]

Thanks for uploading or contributing to Image:Roger_Waters-Ça_Ira.jpg. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in Wikipedia articles constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use. Suggestions on how to do so can be found here.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Replaceable fair use

Thanks for uploading Image:67_Special_band_portrait1.jpg. I notice the 'image' page specifies that the image is being used under fair use, but its use in Wikipedia articles fails our first fair use criterion in that it illustrates a subject for which a freely licensed image could reasonably be found or created that provides substantially the same information. If you believe this image is not replaceable, please:

  1. Go to the image description page and edit it to add {{di-replaceable fair use disputed}}, without deleting the original Replaceable fair use template.
  2. On the image discussion page, write the reason why this image is not replaceable at all.

Alternatively, you can also choose to replace the fair use image by finding a freely licensed image of its subject, requesting that the copyright holder release this (or a similar) image under a free license, or by taking a picture of it yourself.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified how these images fully satisfy our fair use criteria. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on this link. Note that fair use images which could be replaced by free-licensed alternatives will be deleted 7 days after this notification, per our Fair Use policy. Hi,
You appear to be eligible to vote in the current Arbitration Committee election. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to enact binding solutions for disputes between editors, primarily related to serious behavioural issues that the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail. If you wish to participate, you are welcome to review the candidates' statements and submit your choices on the voting page.
