Polish-French relations

Hi Piotrus. You are off to such a great start on the article Polish-French relations that it may qualify to appear on Wikipedia's Main Page under the Did you know... section. The Main Page gets about 4,000,000 hits per day and appearing on the Main Page may help bring publicity and assistance to the article. However, there is a five day from article creation window for Did you know... nominations. Before five days pass from the date the article was created and if you haven't already done so, please consider nominating the article to appear on the Main Page by posting a nomination at Did you know suggestions. If you do nominate the article for DYK, please cross out the article name on the "Good" articles proposed by bot list. Also, don't forget to keep checking back at Did you know suggestions for comments regarding your nomination. Again, great job on the article. -- JayHenry 20:29, 22 July 2007 (UTC)

Oh silly me, I see you've already nominated it. Good work! --JayHenry 22:05, 22 July 2007 (UTC)
No problem. I like DYKs :) Keep up the good job! -- Piotr Konieczny aka Prokonsul Piotrus | talk  22:08, 22 July 2007 (UTC)
I've seen your signature a million times, but it wasn't until you replied on my talk page that I realized your sig went with this user name. You've written over 100 DYKs and here I am inviting you to contribute with a form letter! Oh, the faux pas. Cheers! --JayHenry 04:02, 23 July 2007 (UTC)

Replaceable fair use

Thanks for uploading Image:St_Stanislaus_Kostka_in_Pittsburgh.jpg. I notice the 'image' page specifies that the image is being used under fair use, but its use in Wikipedia articles fails our first fair use criterion in that it illustrates a subject for which a freely licensed image could reasonably be found or created that provides substantially the same information. If you believe this image is not replaceable, please:

  1. Go to the image description page and edit it to add {{di-replaceable fair use disputed}}, without deleting the original Replaceable fair use template.
  2. On the image discussion page, write the reason why this image is not replaceable at all.

Alternatively, you can also choose to replace the fair use image by finding a freely licensed image of its subject, requesting that the copyright holder release this (or a similar) image under a free license, or by taking a picture of it yourself.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified how these images fully satisfy our fair use criteria. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on this link. Note that fair use images which could be replaced by free-licensed alternatives will be deleted 7 days after this notification, per our Fair Use policy. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Abu badali (talk) 15:45, 23 July 2007 (UTC)

request to move to kyiv

Hello,

I have set up a request to move the page Kiev to Kyiv.

I have outlined four key reasons for doing so in the discussion section of the page.

Looking through the archives, I saw that you had contributed to this page earlier. I would like to hear what you have to say on this topic.

Thank you

Question

I was wondering, maybe you know about a Polish scouting organizations in Galicia "Stsheltsa Ogzhelets, Zwionzek" (not sure about spelling, I transliterated from Uk.). It was founded in Galicia or Lviv before WWI? I am more intersted in spelling of these names and if you have more info on them. Thanks.--Hillock65 02:45, 31 July 2007 (UTC)

Thanks. I am expanding the Ukrainian Sich Riflemen article, and was wondering if you could have a look at it. Maybe you'd have some suggestions or comments? --Hillock65 12:10, 31 July 2007 (UTC)

Unsuitable applicant

Ha ha (laughs nervously, runs off and hides behind the bushes)! From your cautious tone, I expect you've guessed that I'm too tunnel-visioned to be suitable for that job. It's very flattering that you thought of me, though. The truth is that, while I adore burying myself in books and editing articles until I am blue in the face, I can't think of anything more boring than administrative duties. I know that makes me selfish, and I really admire the admins for all the work they do (without which I'd have no articles to edit), but that's the way I'm made, I fear. I suspect I would make about as good an administrator as Henryk Walezy was a king of Poland. You've made my day by mentioning it, though. :) qp10qp 11:30, 31 July 2007 (UTC)

Hello. I noticed your prod tag on this article, and I have removed it. I believe this player meets the notability criteria for professional footballers, and I have cleaned up the article a little bit to indicate notability (i.e., he has played in a fully professional league) although I'm struggling to find sources since I don't speak Polish. Best regards. Jogurney 21:54, 31 July 2007 (UTC)

Pozdrawiam. Piotr Kaszubowski (Pikasch 07:45, 3 August 2007 (UTC))

Berlin

PBS assumed ownership of the articles and is fanatical about "reliably" sourcing just everything. If something's not in his books, it' "not reliable" and he will delete (even the really, really obvious things - including these wjere it's explained on their own pages, for example the fact the HJ were young and the VS old folks).

I hate the wiki bureacracy, so maybe you'd do something about it. --HanzoHattori 12:45, 3 August 2007 (UTC)

Hey thanks for the email - yeah it was getting kinda intense with Irpen. I'm not really sure why - I mean it was a fairly blatant uncivil comment - and I just said try to avoid making those - however apparently he was upset that I told him (however he never actually defended the comment itself...) and then said experienced editors shouldn't be told they're not being civil. "please consider that citing them to experienced editors does not help in encouraging the civility climate". Eh? Well hey, hey nice user page by the way - I gotta figure out how you do that box... Weygand

I find them similar to each other; in some regard the French version is more neutral, as it makes attributed claims. Neither version uses citations, BTW ;-) Here goes an abstract of the fr version, 4 paras respectively.

  • Weygand sent to Poland where the war is at its critical point.
  • French intervention helps win the battle of Warsaw [maybe this straightforward claim is not the best wording in fr, but look at what follows]
  • The role of Weygand is deprecated by some Polish officers. [comment: here goes one murky sentence that I spotted in enwiki too. In fr it's more understandable as attributed: "Some *Polish* *officers* deprecated the Wyegand's role by claiming that Poles won the battle themselves before the mission could return and make its report". In English this puzzles me, as it says "indeed, the battle was fought and won before the mission could return and make reports". This does not make sense to me, given its context.]
  • This view (i.e. "minor role of Weygand") is shared by well-known historians of the subject, as e.g. N. Davies. *French* *historians*, while admitting that he's role wasn't crucial in fighting (as he wasn't there), still put an accent on his role in reorganizing and instruction of the Polish army and remark that the Polish aircrafts were piloted by Americans and French.

BTW, in the English version I spotted some general unfriendly tone. It's you who wrote it? ;-)

Sure, but I'd be surprised if that cut material wasn't available in sub-articles already since it wasn't particularly detailed. Notability of Marek Papała

Hello, this is a message from an automated bot. A tag has been placed on Marek Papała, by Nuttah68 (talk · contribs), another Wikipedia user, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. The tag claims that it should be speedily deleted because Marek Papała seems to be about a person, group of people, band, club, company, or web content, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is notable: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, articles that do not assert the subject's importance or significance may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable.

To contest the tagging and request that administrators wait before possibly deleting Marek Papała, please affix the template {{hangon}} to the page, and put a note on its talk page. If the article has already been deleted, see the advice and instructions at WP:WMD. Feel free to contact the bot operator if you have any questions about this or any problems with this bot, bearing in mind that this bot is only informing you of the nomination for speedy deletion; it does not perform any nominations or deletions itself. --Android Mouse Bot 2 17:39, 9 August 2007 (UTC)

He is turning a discussion into a mess. Please see for yourself his edits there. he was also edit warring on keeping a lengthy peace he pasted there when I replaced it with the link. The page is already a mess. In order to be able to have any progress in the discussion, we must be sensible. Not only he repeats the same thousand times and ignores questions on topic. In addition to this repetitive rant, he pastes external text not accepting even the replacement by external links. Diluting editor's exchange of opinions by kilobytes of text only obstructs the discussion. So do repetitive statements pasted in every section. Read it for yourself. --Irpen 10:38, 10 August 2007 (UTC)

It is your duty to prove that such order existed. I am sick repeating: during the pervious discussion I diligently lookd thru original documents and found nothing even close. I am not less than you interested to present chronology of events of these times. Soviet move westwards started to trickle immediatly after the abrogation of the Treaty of Brest Litovsk, when German army was in disarray after German revolution. The Western Front was created postfactum. `'Míkka 23:07, 14 August 2007 (UTC)

You cannot provide the reference to the original document, it is hearsay. Enough already that it propagates dubious term "Operation Viwtula", we may quote WIEM for it. But to refer to an unknown order by Lenin is unconfirmed hearsay and there is no urgent nessessity here. I am no longer continue this silly bitching: I demand you give me exact ref to document and I find it hardly unreasonable. We are talking about little-known detail, not about "Vistula drains into the Baltic Sea". re: your "we cannot find other source": CAN YOU READ IT OR YOU ARE BLIND: I repeating 4th time: I SPENT SEVERAL HOURS looked thru ORIGINAL DOCUMENTS of 1918 (Red Army ORders and Lenin's Complete Works), not some stupid google search. And dont give me bullshit about original research. `'Míkka 00:26, 15 August 2007 (UTC) Re: "I find it quite plausible that there was some order, speech, memo or such text, written by Lenin at that time, telling the troops to go "West" and mentioning Vistula; there were certainly quite a few such orders then."

I find it quite not. You under an impression either Boslhevik or Western propaganda that Lenin was either superhero or supertyrant. May I remind you that at these times it was Trotzki who gave orders to the Army. `'Míkka 00:34, 15 August 2007 (UTC)

hi! i have no idea why u deleted my articele about Argos Translations. it happend already a couple of times, thats why to experiment and stricltly stick to the rules of wikipedia i created the article the same way as lionbridge (the same branch company ) was done. and what is the result? lionbridge is in wikipedia for a long time, meanwhile u deleted Argos several times. its not fair, especiallly when i put the article into a category about companies established in 1996. sorry, next time try to do the same with the rest of artcles having the same content. or maybe u r just simply paid by lionbridge? cheers.—The preceding unsigned comment was added by Mkrzyskow (talkcontribs).

Eve-Wiki.net reference

You added several references to the above site within some articles (i.e. Caldari State (EVE Online)#External links) about Eve Online here at Wikipedia. Since this precedent was set many, many months ago and no editors objected it seems odd that User:Richard Slater (see User_talk:Alatari#EVE-Wiki & External Links) would object to the external reference to Eve-Wiki.net on the main Eve Online article. What is your opinion? BTW, I contribute on that site under the character name Uni Zueto. Alatari 13:21, 20 August 2007 (UTC)

Little context in Corporate capitalism

Hello, this is a message from an automated bot. A tag has been placed on Corporate capitalism, by another Wikipedia user, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. The tag claims that it should be speedily deleted because Corporate capitalism is very short providing little or no context to the reader. Please see Wikipedia:Stub for our minimum information standards for short articles.

To contest the tagging and request that administrators wait before possibly deleting Corporate capitalism, please affix the template {{hangon}} to the page, and put a note on its talk page. Certainly, if you cannot keep your temper, you should not; I had hoped you might have some influence on PoeticBent. However, I hope the RM is not inundated by WP:ILIKEIT votes like Talk:Wilhelmstraße has been — WP:IDONTLIKEIT would be worse, but there was a time when the two would balance and leave room for rational consideration of the issue. Cracow

Likewise, for the both of you! This behaviour will be reported if it starts or continues. Those article were moved undiscussed by the both of you (AS and Piotr) undiscussed and with shady or insufficient reasoning to do so. Charles 22:33, 22 August 2007 (UTC)

Also, it is inappropriate to unilaterally rename historical articles to Polish names given: a) they have English names and b) this is English Wikipedia. Polish Wikipedia is that way. I am not over there changing Kanada to Canada, which is the native form. Cracow is also the form which most English editors said they have recognized on various votes. Charles 22:38, 22 August 2007 (UTC)
You are some piece of work Piotrus. First, twisting around words, second, twisting around evidence. The article is about the HISTORICAL ENTITY and you abused your administrative powers and showed your bias by moving it back. It is NOT about the article "Krakow". Charles 06:17, 23 August 2007 (UTC)
Look forward to an RFC on this. Charles 06:22, 23 August 2007 (UTC)

I think you honestly and truly need to acknowledge things like this, on the talk page (which you seem to be avoiding) before you initiate problems by changing articles around to forms that have little or no support in scholarly literature:

I don't see a consensus or a vote to keep it at Krakow, so I made a bold move and changed it to Cracow, which was backed up with evidence from the Encyclopedia Brittanica. I see no rationale for this move and for others in the history where a reversal of a well-intentioned editor's move goes without so much as an edit summary. I have always tried to assume good faith, but I am finding it to be increasingly difficult. I do not think, Piotrus, that you are showing NPOV. I had faith that you would turn a better leaf and work toward a better English Wikipedia and made note of such after you came to talk to me on my talk page. I have been silently been observing various shenanigans with regard to English/native naming and I found it to be an incredible affront to my intelligence to be told to have the Krakow article moved first before moving anything else. Absolutely unreal. Charles 06:51, 23 August 2007 (UTC)

Increasingly does not mean overwhelmingly. Indeed, the EB uses "Republic of Cracow" and that name is all but discounted for the sake of the location of the article on the current city. Unbelievable. I have only come into seeing Krakow recently in the article on Wikipedia, never before in any text or manuscript that I have read. Charles 06:51, 23 August 2007 (UTC)

And yes, Piotrus, I am drawing your attention to something you did in the past because you have not learnt from it. I can be fully certain now that you have read it. An answer would be much appreciated. Charles 18:53, 26 August 2007 (UTC)

Refusal to acknowledge one's faults in an attempt to even better one's self as an editor and an administrator is a very grievous error. The fact that you acknowledge what I said by replying, but reply so begrudgingly and with very vague things to say, shows that there is still an issue with you being an administrator. You have learnt little, if nothing, from the events aforementioned which only now seem as if you were only paying lip service to all who gave you a chance to better yourself. The fact that I came upon that article and was able to recognize that something was not right is my contribution to Wikipedia. Your disparaging demeanour and the way you interact with those who oppose you overshadows the merits you claim for yourself and others (of whom this discussion has little to do with). That will follow you around, Piotrus. Everyone knows you for it. You cannot say that the EB is wrong on this matter and that you are right. Charles 19:08, 26 August 2007 (UTC)
Piotrus, you keep on falling back on the use of Cracrow/Krakow in terms of modern usage (which is the modern city). The fact is we are not talking about today, we are talking about the historical entity. I urge you to read the naming conventions on historical entities. This is not Cracow vs Kraków, this is Free City of Cracow vs Free City of Kraków. Now, which is used more in scholarly literature? I urge you to comment on the evidence on the talk page as PMAnderson has gently asked. Refusal to comment on it or ignoring it is well, ignorant. It is a very weak argument on your part. Charles 19:30, 26 August 2007 (UTC)
BTW, I am not disputing RM or anything, I am disputing the editing and the practises that are going on. That is the issue I have. This is a civility issue and it hinges on manipulation of existing conventions to suit an acknowledged POV. Also, WP:OWN frowns on telling other editors they have little to stand on for not dedication more time to editing certain articles. Charles 19:32, 26 August 2007 (UTC)

Free City

Congratulations on the above. Would you comment again on the Cracow disaster (do excuse my Anglicism), and see if you can get these frantic national champions to lay off. I mean it; if I didn't like one of them and regard another as a newbie, I would have reported the lot of them to WP:AE already. Septentrionalis PMAnderson 22:18, 24 August 2007 (UTC)
I'm curious, which one am I? /:) Charles 22:30, 24 August 2007 (UTC)
That would be telling, wouldn't it? ;-> Septentrionalis PMAnderson 20:27, 26 August 2007 (UTC)

I am disappointed, Piotrus; I do not see how your !vote is compatible with WP:NCGN. I would respect, and possibly be persuaded by, an argument for Krakow, which is indeed becoming more common; I would welcome more evidence; but your reasoning endorses WP:OWN. (I'm not sure that it is factually correct either, but to enquire into that would give the argument more weight than it deserves.) Septentrionalis PMAnderson 20:27, 26 August 2007 (UTC)

Thanks for answering. How is this the name of WP:NCGN? for that matter, what modern scholarship? Krakow may be, but not (in this context) Kraków. Please set Matthead a good example, and argue from the facts, not justified annoyance with him. I think his latest stunt, of dragging in Auschwitz, is a violation of the ArbCom decree; but PoeticBent really is just as bad. Septentrionalis PMAnderson 21:05, 26 August 2007 (UTC)

Prośba o tłumaczenie: WP:ASSESS na język polski

Witam.

A później mało czasu i nauka.
  2. Nie potrafię szybko znaleźć odpowiedniego miejsca do umieszczenia omawianej prośby.
  3. (Dosyć ważne:) Chciałbym uniknąć polskiej dyskusji na ten temat.

Przepraszam za poszerzanie problemu. Matyt 13:10, 30 August 2007 (UTC)

Replaceable fair use
Replaceable fair use

Thanks for uploading Image:Pilecki powazki.jpg. I noticed the 'image' page specifies that the image is being used under fair use, but its use in Wikipedia articles fails our first fair use criterion in that it illustrates a subject for which a freely licensed image could reasonably be found or created that provides substantially the same information.

Thank you. — Carl (CBM · talk) 14:58, 30 August 2007 (UTC)

  1. I'm not trying to convince the Lithuanian ultras to my POV. I'm trying to convince them to find a single source to support theirs.
  2. There's no point in creating any longer article on Wikipedia. If the Lithuanians let the article live long enough for us to finish, there'll always be Dan and other trolls.//Halibutt 06:10, 2 September 2007 (UTC)
Lately I tried to create several longer articles. All of them were vandalized before I could even finish writing them. And all of them were vandalized by the same bunch of morons, so I doubt what you write is true. Sure, I envy your belief in the project, but I'm afraid I've lost mine. Perhaps in 10 years time, when the idiots grow up and abandon their 19th centurish nationalism, but definitely not now. //Halibutt 17:13, 4 September 2007 (UTC)
Unfortunately in my areas of interest there's barely anyone but extremists. Sure, it was fun to browse through hilarious delusions by Nico, Zyvinbudas or Dr.Dan, but it is fun no more. Once I had plenty of time to write articles - and some of them must've been nice. However, currently my time is limited and I really don't like the idea of wasting it on writing articles for the bunch of hammers to vandalize just for the sake of it. Ever seen Lokyz, M.K. or Dan provide a single piece of evidence to their claims? Nope. Then why should I be better then they are? If they can do harm to this project and go unpunished, then there's no place for me here. Sad but true. I'll let them play their games in peace. Mądry głupiemu ustępuje, or something along those lines. //Halibutt 17:27, 4 September 2007 (UTC)
What would it change? The presence of the bunch of blinded ultras who slander me all around and destroy my work without even intending to improve my articles makes me tired with this project. It doesn't really matter whether all of my articles are affected or only some of them. Wiki's like a restaurant: it doesn't really matter whether you find a fly in every meal or only in the dessert. It's still the same disgust and disappointment. //Halibutt 22:05, 4 September 2007 (UTC)
Better yet, wiki is like a town where you can visit all sorts of restaurants with different cuisines. Plenty of Polish pierogi bars, pizzerias, stylish French bistros, English fish'n'chips eateries, and so on. However, there's only one Lithuanian restaurant with flies in every dish and a psychopathic chef running with his knife from one bar to the other, just to kill some clients here and there.
Perhaps it's my problem that I like Lithuanian cuisine and would love to visit the restaurant. Yet, apparently I shouldn't. And I shouldn't even get near, as it's dangerous. The only remedies I know are to either kill the crazed chef (but I'd have to do it alone as there's nobody else to see the problem), open up my own Lithuanian restaurant (impossible, as the crazed chef would kill me) - or move to another town. I chose the latter option. I regret it, but what could I do?
In other words, I can live with the fact that outright violation of wiki's rules is accepted. My skin is thick enough to stand an insult or two every now and then. I could also live with the fact that there's a bunch of idiots who make Wikipedia a place where extremist views are preferred over stable, impartial knowledge based on sources. However, I've simply had too much of both at the same time. The Lithuanians want to reinvent their own history and write it from scratch, convincing the entire world that there is only one true vision - that's fine with me. But I don't want to be a part of such a project. I have a name to defend and I can't risk that some day someone's going to point his finger at me and say "Look, that guy was among those who wrote all that rubbish". It's an either-or situation: either all of us accept the rules and try to make this project a great encyclopaedia, or there's no place for my name on the list.
As a sidenote, it seems to me that Wikipedia has become yet another proof for Copernicus' Law. I certainly feel driven out of circulation. //Halibutt 23:33, 4 September 2007 (UTC)
  1. No, it's not all I like. But it's a significant part of what I like. And I'd rather be active in places I fully enjoy than in places I enjoy only partially. Wikipedia is not my country, I can chose to take part in it, or chose to stay away.
  2. You're right, which doesn't change a thing. When a psychopath goes berserk on the streets it really doesn't matter whether people condemn him in their conscience or not. What matters is what he does - and whether he remains unpunished. In other words, as long as he's out there, I'm staying away. No need to waste my time and my nerves. Sure, not all food is bad here, but the bad food in this particular corner spoils all the fun, at least for me. Perhaps giving up Lithuanian cuisine would be a nice option, but why exactly should I? Why a honest, decent editor should give up subjects he's interested in and leave them up to idiots who have little to no knowledge, but plenty of complexes, will to fight and delusions? Does it make WP a better place? Nope. Does it make me feel more happy? Nope. Does it make them feel at home in places they shouldn't be welcome in the first place? Yup.
Perhaps one day the bunch of hammers will grow up or someone will finally force them to abide by the laws of Wikipedia. Until then it's not a place for me. And, sadly, I don't think it's a good place for anyone who opposes their ways. Remember Boziewicz's Codex (or should I say Codex of Bozevičius)? Being part of a group of people lacking honour makes you lose yours as well. A journalist working for a tabloid, even a decent guy who never libelled anyone, is not honourable by definition. //Halibutt 01:00, 5 September 2007 (UTC)

It would do no harm to check a Russian source, if you have access to one and can read it (possibly in English translation); but NPOV doesn't kick in until the point is shown to be controversial. Septentrionalis PMAnderson 18:49, 3 September 2007 (UTC)

But I see no point to discussion with an editor whose feel for English is so limited that he omits the definite article when mandatory and fails to capitalize English; especially when he invents his facts. (And, no, of course I don't mean you.) Septentrionalis PMAnderson 18:30, 4 September 2007 (UTC)

Włoskie okręty

Czy patrząc na dyskusję mógłbyś zablokować User talk:Gaetano56 ? To co on robi strasznie mnie wpienia a dodatkowo niszczy sieć interwiki. Pmgpmg 11:01, 5 September 2007 (UTC)

Pmgpmg 18:10, 5 September 2007 (UTC)

A food for a thought

Regarding recent discussion at Jimbo's talk page, similiar issues and patterns at Occupation of Latvia and Soviet occupation of Romania and so on, I came to belief that indeed they are certain specific issues regarding the history and articles concerning members of Eastern Bloc that touch us all, no matter if we are Ukrainian, Pole, Romanian, Lithuanian, Estonian Latvian or Russian. Also-despite this there seems to be little cooperation between those editors and exchange of information, that would vastly expand the quality and value of articles concerning our past and topics involved with it. Perhaps a message board for History of Eastern Bloc would be in order where editors concerned could engage in discussion and coordinate improvement of topics associated with the issues involved. Of course I am only giving this as something to think about. --Molobo 15:03, 5 September 2007 (UTC)

That's quite an interesting idea. Do you have any specific suggestions? Digwuren 15:22, 5 September 2007 (UTC)

Dual names

I expect there will be move wars about which goes first, just like the unhappy Bozen-Bolzano nonsense, documented on WP:LAME; at that point you should see which English uses. I would bet the cheese is known by an Anglicized name, probably closer to the Polish than the Slovak, since more Poles have immigrated to English-speaking countries; but I don't know. But we may get lucky. Septentrionalis PMAnderson 17:24, 6 September 2007 (UTC)

I'm unfamiliar with full nuances and details of your arbitration case, thus I do not know Grafikm_fr's and Irpen's level of involvement in it, or the full extent of his former transgressions. Can you assess applicability of remedy (4) to their disruption at Occupations of Latvia? Furthermore, if it is applicable, is the proper further move to request WP:AE based on this remedy, or should ArbCom's attention be requested in another manner? Your message

I just contacted my friend in the Czech Republic… The word ZABEDNENEC used by your friend Darwinek means IDIOT in English… Mine was an assumption not a slander. Am I the one who is at fault here or is the arrogance of the above editor? FYI – he is the one who is destroying my work!! —Preceding unsigned comment added by Bolekpolivka (talkcontribs) 19:23, 6 September 2007 (UTC)

With all the respect, you are not correct. As an author of this box, I made this table to list all historical settlements in the region. Darwinek bases his opinion on a marginal and incomplete table on the Czech Wikipedia. So, what Darwinek thinks does not really matter much, as his conclusions are based on wrong information. As I said already, I have much more experience as far as this topic is concerned than about anyone still alive – see my contributions to various books on the subject. Regards L. G.

Kiev

Hey - so I was planning on reading over Kiev Expedition just now and likely passing it - but I just noticed the huge discussion going on. I'm required to review it tomorrow since tomorrow will be a week since the hold tag was placed on- but the problem is if I review it now I might have to fail it because the article has to be stable. Regardless - I'll definitely take a look tomorrow, and assuming all is worked out you'll have yourself a GA!--danielfolsom 03:32, 8 September 2007 (UTC)

Well - while I'm not supposed to wait longer than a week - I think given your note I will, I mean to me there's no problem in giving a bit more time - and that "no more than 7 days" line is probably more to prevent the reviewer from forgetting about it than to prevent the reviewer to give extra time. Could you just give me a heads up when it's all sorted out? Thanks! Oh and by the way - very nice job on that article, I'm not sure if I said this or not but you definitely did a lot of great edits - nicely done, --danielfolsom 23:54, 9 September 2007 (UTC)

Górecki

Hi Piotrus, qp10qp posted the below during the FAC for Górecki's 3rd symphony. I have tried to resolve but do not have enough knowledge on the subject and the sources I have are vague. An openion from you would be appreciated. Thanks Ceoil 16:57, 8 September 2007 (UTC)

"Some critics have seen the symphony as a memorial to victims of the Nazis in Poland and during the Holocaust, particularly in light of Górecki's choice of texts." Why do critics think it is a memorial to victims of the holocaust? And do they mean just the Polish holocaust? The critics' views could perhaps be quoted here to make this clear, because it is not obvious to me from the description of the texts that they refer to the holocaust specifically.
The fact that one of them was taken from a Gestapo prison wall was a major factor in peoples' interpreting it in that way, coupled with the overwhelmingly sorrowful mood of the piece. If there's a way we should reword that to make that more clear, I'm all for it. Chubbles 23:05, 13 August 2007 (UTC)
We have to be careful. Because there's a feeling in Poland that emphasis on the holocaust, however essential, may obscure the fact that a vast number of non-Jews died or were imprisoned in Poland too. And Gorecki may share that view, which might be why he resists the holocaust interpretation. He may be lamenting the war dead, Jew and non-Jew alike. I don't think the fact that this was inscribed on a Gestapo cell necessarily connects this to the holocaust. The Gestapo were responsible for largescale arrests and interrogations of the civilian population as part of the Nazi administration of Poland, a major undertaking. However, this could all be fixed by a direct quote or two from critics. Shall I ask a Polish editor to comment?qp10qp 12:34, 14 August 2007 (UTC)
I took your advice and posted to the board. If you fine time to comment, great, but no hurry with this. Thanks. Ceoil 16:13, 9 September 2007 (UTC)

Orphaned non-free media (Image:Rtm witold pilecki-aus.jpg)

Thanks for uploading Image:Rtm witold pilecki-aus.jpg. The media description page currently specifies that it is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, it is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the media was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that media for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that all non-free media not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. BetacommandBot 13:49, 9 September 2007 (UTC)

About your pictures from Baranów Sand. castle

Dear Piotr:

Hi! We do not meet from time ago. Congratulations for your gallery in commons.

I took advantage of your pictures in Baranów Sandomierski castle. You may see the results in w:commons:Category:Coats of arms of families of Poland in Baranow-Sandomierski castle Your work is excellent, do not you wish to include this images in your gallery? As you can see the credit remains all yours. Be free to change or to delete whatever you want.

By the way, in w:commons:Image:Baranów Sandomierski - castle 16.JPG I could identify Herb Wieniawa easily but I am not sure about the other three ones. I suppose they are woj. Sandomierskie (the stripes and the stars), woj. Rawskie (the crowned black eagle) and woj. Rúskie (the crowned lion), but I am not sure. Do you know something about?

Best regards my friend.

I presume that, as an example, "Wawdicz coat of arms in Baranow-Sandomierski castle" is "Herb Wawdicz w zamku Baranowie Sandomierkie" but I am not sure. May you tell me? Remember that my Polish is worst than my English. Imaging!

Front page day is pudding day

Oh, dear, the lead is turning into a pudding. This is a perfect example of how articles deteriorate. Someone adds a superfluous detail to the lead ("several calls to do so"). Someone else decides, without reading the rest of the article, where that point is expanded and referenced, to add a "citation needed" tag. Someone else comes along and helpfully references the point, adding all sorts of other details too, just to nail it home, without taking into account the need for a sense of proportion in the lead or the fact that all this is already covered and referenced in the body of the article. And the lead now says that the Soviets delayed because Warsaw hadn't yet fallen, whereas the body of the article gives a number of reasons from a range of sources. I don't think I'll try and sort this out until after the 24 hours, because good concise prose in the lead is a fine art and cannot be attempted while swatting flies, with one foot in a swamp. This experience convinces me that maybe it's best to cite everything in the lead in future: some people obviously don't realise that it's a deliberate style choice not to cite too much in the lead, particularly those people who start editing the lead before they've read the whole article. :(. qp10qp 15:26, 17 September 2007 (UTC)
