partial vs. overtone

Hi Pianotech. Your assertion that "...octaves are never tuned to the first partial (fundamental) of the lower note, but to the second partial" is true. But I hadn't said "first partial"; rather I said "first (lowest) coincidental overtone". Remember that overtones are numbered as they appear above the fundamental, whereas partials include the fundamental. So the first overtone is the second partial.

I believed that saying the "lowest coincidental overtone" would be more meaningful than "second partial". Joelthesecond (talk) 15:45, 9 October 2010 (UTC)

Pianotech, now take a look. This seems good to me, and uses both terms. If anyone wants to know the abstruse relationship between overtones and partials, they can investigate further.Joelthesecond (talk) 15:55, 9 October 2010 (UTC)

Works for me! :) Pianotech Talk to me!/Contribs 17:04, 9 October 2010 (UTC)
