Yes, it is ...
I usually suck in my breath before going over there (almost) every morning, knowing that it may take me a half hour to clear everything. I almost don't know what to do with myself now.

An uninvolved favor
I noticed your recent editing, and respect you sufficiently well to trust your judgement. I want to userfy three pages that I am going to use in drafting an informative fourth essay. Call them User:My76Strat/One, /Two, and /Three if you would; and they would be the one's redirected from WP:SALUTE, WP:IAR., and WP:?IAR. Thank you for considering this request. --My76Strat (talk) 13:47, 11 January 2013 (UTC)

- Befuddling --My76Strat (talk) 08:06, 15 January 2013 (UTC)
I've moved the SALUTE one; but the WP:IAR. was just WP:IAR, a redirect; and there doesn't seem to have ever been WP:?IAR as an article. --Orange Mike | Talk 08:41, 15 January 2013 (UTC)

Wikipedia Ambassadors update
Hi! You're getting this message because you are or have been a Wikipedia Ambassador. A new term is beginning for the United States and Canada Education Programs, and I wanted to give you an update on some important new information if you're interested in continuing your work this term as a Wikipedia Ambassador.
You may have heard a reference to a transition the education program is going through. This is the last term that the Wikimedia Foundation will directly run the U.S. and Canada programs; beginning in June, a proposed thematic organization is likely to take over organizing the program. You can read more about the proposal here.
Another major change in the program will take effect immediately. Beginning this term, a new MediaWiki education extension will replace all course pages and Ambassador lists. (See Wikipedia:Course pages and Help:Education Program extension for more details.) Included in the extension are online volunteer and campus volunteer user rights, which let you create and edit course pages and sign up as an ambassador for a particular course.
If you would like to continue serving as a Wikipedia Ambassador — even if you do not support a class this term — you must create an ambassador profile. If you're no longer interested in being a Wikipedia Ambassador, you don't need to do anything.
- Please do these steps as soon as possible
First, you need the relevant user rights for Online and/or Campus Ambassadors. (If you are an admin, you can grant the rights yourself, for you as well as other ambassadors.) Just post your rights request here, and we'll get you set up as quickly as possible.
Once you've got the ambassador rights, please set up at a Campus and/or Online Ambassador profile. You can do so at:
Going forward, the lists of Ambassadors at Special:CampusAmbassadors and Special:OnlineAmbassadors will be the official roster of who is an active Ambassador. If you would like to be an Ambassador but not ready to serve this term, you can un-check the option in your profile to publicly list it (which will remove your profile from the list).
After that, you can sign on to support courses. The list of courses will be at Special:Courses. (By default, this lists "Current" courses, but you can change the Status filter to "Planned" to see courses for this term that haven't reached their listed start date yet.)
As this is the first term we have used the extension, we know there will be some bugs, and we know the feature set is not as rich as it could be. (A big wave of improvements is already in the pipeline. And if you know MediaWiki and could help with code review, we'd love to have your help!) Please reach out to me (Sage Ross) with any complaints, bug reports, and feature suggestions. The basic features of the extension are documented at Wikipedia:Course pages, and you can see a tutorial for setting up and using them here.
- Communication and keeping up to date
In the past, the Education Program has had a pretty fragmented set of communication channels. We're trying to fix that. These are the recommended places to discuss and stay up-to-date on the education program:
- The education noticeboard has become the main on-wiki location for discussion of the Education Program. You can post there about broad education program issues as well as issues with individual courses.
- The Ambassadors Announce email list is a very low-traffic announcements list of important information all Ambassadors need to be aware of. We encourage all Ambassadors (and other interested Wikipedians) to subscribe to the list; follow the instructions on the link to add your email address.
- If you use IRC regularly, or need to try to reach someone immediately, the #wikipedia-en-ambassadors connect IRC channel is the place to find me and fellow Ambassadors.
- Ambassador training and resources
We now have an online training for Ambassadors, which is intended to be both an orientation about the Wikipedia Ambassador role for newcomers and the manual for how to do the role. (There are parallel trainings for students and for educators as well.)
Please go through the training if you feel like you need a refresher on how a typical class is supposed to go and where the Ambassadors fit in, or if you want to review and help improve it. If there's something you'd like to see added, or other suggestions you have for it, feel free to edit the training and/or leave feedback. A primer on setting up and using course pages is included in the educators' training.
The Resources page of the training is the main place for Ambassador-related resources. If there's something you think is important as a resource that's not on there, please add it.
Finally, whether or not you work with any classes this term, I encourage you to post entries to the Trophy Case whenever you see excellent work from students or if you have great examples from past semesters. And, as always, let students (and other editors!) know when they do things well; a little WikiLove goes a long way!

I was trying to figure out where this came from:
- "I thought you claimed to be white-hat practicioners?"
I don't know of anything to suggest they have ever edited the article. Is there some context I'm not aware of?
I don't mean to sound snarky (if I do) just trying to figure out what was up. CorporateM (Talk) 00:58, 15 January 2013 (UTC)
- You don't sound snarky in the least. "Rand" said something like, "Gee, I'm sorry I didn't spam Wikipedia worse a while back so that the article about us would be blocked forever." That sounded like a perverse sort of black-hat SEO to me. (I don't mind admitting that I am unsure that there is such a thing as true white-hat SEO.) --Orange Mike | Talk 06:40, 15 January 2013 (UTC)

Leonard Oprea: Discrimination, Racism, Ignorance & Censorship, or ..what against me?
Leonard Oprea: Discrimination, Racism, Ignorance & Censorship, or ..what against me? I protest firmly against the slandering of my article in your English Wikipedia. Your “creation” of my “Biography” and “Works” are OUT of the reliable sources, OUT of the truth concerning who I am as writer worldwide. I never wrote a novella “X-Ray of an Instant”, for example; this is the title of a short stories and novellas volume. My first book – well-know – is “Domenii Interzise” / Forbidden Areas/ 1984 published – but premeditatedly you made my article a FALSE image of my biography and works. Premeditatedly you “adjusted” my image as looking … stupid… Probably I have to sue you. I want to be civilized and I like to have a common sense dialog with you… Alas! sorry, you do not have any excuse for your American ignorance and more for your OBVIOULSY CENSORSHIP. I do not agree to have such an article in your racist American space, AT LEAST ACCORDING TO MY FORMER ANTI-COMMUNIST DISSIDENCE WIDELY RECOGNIZED. I did not do anything to deserve this discrimination. Therefore, I think I will have to make public your discrimination. This is NOT a threat – yet what can I do against this evil ignorance? Books with l - o - n - g titles
Yeah, there was a time period when those long, paragraph-length titles were in style. Librarians use the title page of a book for the title, rather than the cover. For those really long titles, I tend to go with the part of the title page with the largest font, and treat the rest as fluff. Usually the fluff doesn't help the reader locate the book, which is one of the purposes of a citation. I see that the Library of Congress has cataloged the Wisconsin Blue Books, starting in 1862, as a series, with the title, The Blue book of the state of Wisconsin. Probably each edition actually has a different long title. I'm not sure what a style manual would suggest. Do you have a copy of CMOS? -- Mesconsing (talk) 20:33, 7 January 2013 (UTC)
- You mean the part where it says, "Citations for books should include the following information in this order whenever possible: {p. 693-694} 1. Full name of author(s) or editor as author or corporate/institutional author 2. Title and subtitle 3. Editor, compiler, or translator in addition to author 4. Edition (only if not the first edition) 5. Volume information: total number of volumes of an entire multivolume work cited, individual volume of an multivolume work, title of individual volume if different from set 6. Series title and number (if applicable) 7. Facts of publication: city, publisher, and date 8. Page information (if applicable) 9. For electronic books: URL or DOI [digital object identifier], or type of medium (Kindle, etc.)" emphasis added? --Orange Mike | Talk 03:45, 8 January 2013 (UTC)

Is there a reason to restore this mostly uncited section? I'm not familiar with the subject Prodego talk 21:49, 16 January 2013 (UTC)
- This warning seems completely inappropriate. If information is wrong we want to know about it. WP:AGF is still quite important, and I don't see it at all in this case. Prodego talk 21:59, 16 January 2013 (UTC)

He is pointing towards completely uncited information that includes lines like "Stiv is roundly remembered as one of the very best front men in punk and post-punk rock", and "from the start the new members found it difficult to tolerate Steven Marque, and after some months on the road, they began to loathe him". And you restored that information several times even though it is uncited. People tend to get worked up about that. Prodego talk 22:18, 16 January 2013 (UTC)

Hi Mike. Despite the references (which in fact don't amount to much), I have my doubts about notability here. Would appreciate your view. Thanks.--ukexpat (talk) 14:11, 17 January 2013 (UTC)
Hi Mike. I've unblocked this user, based on a (huge, but) pretty convincing unblock request on their talkpage (including a change of username). Normally I'd consult with the blocking admin, but I reckoned you would probably have made the same decision I did, under the circumstances. However, if you disagree, I will not object nor consider it a violation of WP:WHEEL if you reblock or ask me to do so, since I took action without discussing it with you first.
(In case you find the unblock request a tad tl;dr, I'll summarise: he's not promoting Lawson Media Works, but will still change his username; he doesn't quite get how Wikipedia works (who does?) and he'd like to revise and improve the AFC page on HDtracks, with whom he is not connected, to bring it in line with the guidelines.)

- Cool, thanks Mike. Yunshui 雲水 13:43, 16 January 2013 (UTC)
Thank you for approving the unblocking. Yeah, my plea was huge, but I've never been known for my brevity. I often joke I am a publisher, not an editor. I hire editors to cut things down to size. I always tell my authors to turn in more than is needed as we can always chop it down. In any event, last I heard via email, a, trusted Wiki volunteer, Kevin Rutherford, said he would take a stab at helping me edit the original entry into something acceptable. Hopefully he is able to find the time to do this for me. I genuinely thought my very first entry was acceptable. It was flagged for references, but not content. Then after I fixed that, it was flagged for content. So I did a hail-Mary pass and tried to write it out some more, then it got blocked. Subjectivity must be something Wikipedia volunteers wrestle with, since everyone could form a different opinion on the same sentence. I'm sorry if I've caused anyone any hassles. I have plenty to learn about Wikipedia, and hopefully this experience trying to get an HDtracks page will be my trial by fire that makes future entries more palatable to the reviewers. Manish Sharma (Panasonic) should not be mentioned as Non-notable Corporate Bureaucrat
Hi Orangemike,
I made this page Manish Sharma (businessman) on Manish Sharma who is the current Managing Director, Panasonic India. There are certain issues with the page, the biggest one being that Manish Sharma is being termed as a Non-notable Corporate Bureaucrat. In my opinion this is not correct. I understand that we need to provide proper facts/references to support it and here they are:
I would start with a statement from The Economic Times (Category-A Business newspaper in India) here, "Japan's largest consumer electronics company, Panasonic has for the first time ever appointed an Indian to head its flagship consumer durables business in the country. Manish Sharma (41), erstwhile head for sales and marketing of Panasonic India, has been promoted as its managing director from April."
Here is the link of the same: http://articles.economictimes.indiatimes.com/2012-03-06/news/31127441_1_panasonic-india-daizo-ito-durables-market
His name has appeared in other major newspapers and magazines in India. Here are the links:
Apart from these, he has received various awards, one of the most recent one being, the National Conservation Energy Awards 2012 held in December on behalf of Panasonic.
Therefore, Manish Sharma by no means necessary can be categorized as a Non-notable Corporate Bureaucrat.I request you to please help me correct this issue. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Gadgetsgigs (talk • contribs) 07:35, 18 January 2013 (UTC) Gadgetsgigs (talk) 14:02, 18 January 2013 (UTC)
- A better case could be made for our needing articles on the two top guys at Panasonic main headquarters: Kunio Nakamura (Chairman) and Kazuhiro Tsuga (President). --Orange Mike | Talk 21:06, 18 January 2013 (UTC)
I understand but that doesn't mean that we can't have a page which is talking about the Indian counterpart for them. I request you to please consider this page as the links and the references gives us a clear idea that this person, Manish Sharma is a well know figure when it comes to Indian Consumer electronic industry.
Thank you. Gadgetsgigs (talk) 04:00, 21 January 2013 (UTC)
Urgent: Also, the page isn't an Orphan page now as it was earlier as it is linked to three different articles.
Please respond to my earlier comments to prove that this person isn't a non-notable person. Gadgetsgigs (talk) 14:25, 22 January 2013 (UTC)
- The discussion is taking place at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Manish Sharma (businessman). Please make your case there. --Orange Mike | Talk 14:28, 22 January 2013 (UTC)

Dan Nainan Vandalism
Dan graduated from Bethesda-Chevy Chase High School in Bethesda, Maryland in 1979.
was recently added to the page its citation was a vidio that had text which was a word for word copy of the wikipedia page. This line is a poor citation and should be deleted.

Hello Mike. I was the one that initially posted a link from Bethesda Chevy-Chase High School, which claimed that Dan graduated in 1979. This was ultimately replaced by a link to a video. The truth be told, I believe someone is maliciously editing this site with biased, non-factual posts. I believe that someone changed my legitimate reference to that silly video, so you would simply remove it. At the end of the day, this site should be driven by facts and not the desire to promote ones own interests or misdirect or mislead readers. When you have a chance, please look at my lengthy retort to Nerdypukkid, under his "Recently added and poorly cited" comment. Personally, I believe you should lock Dan's page. It's erroneous and I am tired of continually straightening it out. I donate to Wikipedia, on a regular basis, on that belief that it provides a venue for accurate and relevant posts - Not unbiased self-interest or misleading information. Thanks kindly. And, truly - thanks for your efforts...I am sure that being a mod is a difficult task at times. DesiBabe —Preceding undated comment added 01:09, 23 January 2013 (UTC)
Hello sineBot and Orange Mike Ive viewed the citation attached to Bethesda Chevy-Chase High School and it is valid and it does say someone named Dan Nainan was part of the class of 1979. I think that line that talks about his HS woud be best between the sentence ending in Bloomington. and before the sentence Befpre becoming a comedian. That way its cronilogical. I did not add the line about his high school so i don't feel comfortable altering others work.
Second him graduated in 1979 contradicts other articles written about him putting him in his early 30s while if he graduated in 1979 and assuming he graduated when he was 17 or 18 would make him in his 50's. Not to mention taking on look at him he does not look like he is in his 50s but late 20s early 30s. I think there must be another Dan Nainan because both the first and last name are common names. I think since his age is provided by relevant and notable sources such as CNN NYtime and NYpost we put his birthday back to his orignial day as 1981 (i beleive) or if not possible list it as disputed untill something with his full birthday not age comes up or evidense that shows that Dan Nainan the comedian is same Dan Nainain that graduated highschool in 1979
19:00, 23 January 2013 (UTC) — Preceding unsigned comment added by Nerdypunkkid (talk • contribs)
- Nerdy, I have to agree that the described career path of Dan Nainan does not come close to matching up with a birthdate of 1981, and does mesh well with a graduation date of 1979. --Orange Mike | Talk 19:12, 23 January 2013 (UTC)
I think the best explanation is that a different Dan Nainan graduated graduated on that date. The reason i think its different people is the news sourses such as CNN and Nytimes can't write things that are not true or backed by fact because they would loose there credibility. I'm not going to make changes anypart of the Dan Nainan page that i did not create myself. I would like to hear your desicion and hope you put back his birthday back to his orinal stated age because thats backed up by notable sourses

Joseph D. Morrissey
I didn't add that section, and if you paid attention to what you were doing, you would know that. Throwing around vandalism accusations willy-nilly is pretty irresponsible on your part.
As someone who lives in Virginia, and who is far from being hostile to Morrissey, I can testify that the last version that appeared was factually correct, though I don't care for the sources, either. As a Wikipedia editor, I'd say it was far more neutral than the two other versions I have deleted (you're not alone in that). I'd prefer the editor who put it in stuck to reliable sources, but I have no doubt that the incident described can be sourced to the Richmond Times-Dispatch, rather than Tucker Carlson's digital rag. And it's a serious enough event in Morrissey's life that it belongs in the article somehow.
And as for your vandalism screed, I'll wait for your apology. Rklear (talk) 20:00, 23 January 2013 (UTC)
- I've made no accusations of vandalism; I'm just weary of this alleged incident being repeatedly inserted into the article without any reliable sources. If you were not the one who restored the stuff sourced to nut blogs and partisan news sites, then I certainly do apologize! With a BLP, reliable sourcing is mandatory nowadays, as it should be. --Orange Mike | Talk 20:06, 23 January 2013 (UTC)

- The great bulk of my stock of convictions, taken singly or in groups, has been so abused by reality that I find it difficult to rise to the task of despising any idea or individual, unless I have incontrovertible evidence that the same works to the material harm of another person. Which is not to say that I agree or approve, or am neutral in all things; rather, I have developed a healthy suspicion regarding my own infallibility. Orange Mike, can you look at Eric Zorn to see if it should be deleted. The article is like a promotional piece, even including multiple direct links to Zorn's blog. And there are no reliable sources at all; the only sources are to the subject's own newspaper columns. There's also some nonsense content such as "Eric has a grandkitty, Wednesday Zing, by way of his son Alex and Alex's girlfriend, Kayley", "each December Zorn joins with Schmich to host "Songs of Good Cheer", and this entire section. The IP editor who created the article also created an article for Eric Zorn's wife Johanna Zorn on the very same day. Her's is currently set for deletion. --76.189.109.147 (talk) 19:06, 25 January 2013 (UTC)

- (talk page stalker) Hey OrangeMike. It looked like Aminiumcpisolutions (probably a username violation) was blocked before ever being given a COI notification tag. I don't use the default COI user tag, but when a PR person is disrupting my editing, I give them one of these[2] and it seems to work pretty well most of the time.
- Yes, we both know how you feel about PR editors, but maybe next time give it a shot? If I were in his shoes, I would think that PR editors are banned and the take-home lesson would be to conceal themselves better next time. I realize it's potentially a contentious topic, so hopefully I'm not ruffling any feathers. CorporateM (Talk) 23:23, 2 February 2013 (UTC)

- Lets say I agree with you. Don't you think the best way to deter PR participation would be to let them get frustrated by getting their articles rejected for promotionalism at AfC? Blocking them for being a PR person doesn't really deter anything right. Just means a larger volume of usernames and socks you can't keep track of. It's counterproductive.
- I don't think the notification needs to be more firm. If someone isn't willing to read and follow straightforward instructions, then maybe they shouldn't be here. The expectation is that they will follow the instructions of their own volition, not because we enforce or require it.
- Enjoy the discussion/debate, even if we're not necessarily on the same side of things ;-) CorporateM (Talk) 00:40, 3 February 2013 (UTC)
First of all, thank you. I think the damage done by this account has been addressed. Hi Mike. Just letting you know I've unblocked this user - it seems pretty evident that they aren't trying to promote a business, and their name is not related to the company LA Tattoos (who are based in Runcorn, literally half a world away from the user's region of interest). They've also provided us with a fairly decent article on an LA tattoo artist (Amy Nicoletto), which is hopefully the start of a productive Wikipedia career. As such, I've unblocked; I imagine you'll be cool with that given the new information, but do let me know if not. Cheers, Yunshui 雲水 10:57, 5 February 2013 (UTC)

offending message re Catherine Mary Stewart
I am honestly HIGHLY offended by this message.
I am a friend and web assistant for the actress Catherine Mary Stewart. As part of her Wikipedia profile we have added her official facebook site to her links. Today I see this message from Orange Mike. This is NOT spam - this is official page - and i am not trying to SNEAK anything in. I find this HIGHLY insulting.
Please stop adding inappropriate external links to Wikipedia, as you did to Catherine Mary Stewart. It is considered spamming and Wikipedia is not a vehicle for advertising or promotion. Because Wikipedia uses nofollow tags, additions of links to Wikipedia will not alter search engine rankings. If you continue spamming, you may be blocked from editing Wikipedia. You were warned about this back in 2010, and again in 2012; but here you are trying to sneak it in again! --Orange Mike | Talk 15:19, 8 February 2013 (UTC) — Preceding unsigned comment added by Ryantbo (talk • contribs)
- Our guidance on external links is quite clear: the subject of an article gets to have one, and only one, external link to a site which they control. You don't get to add twitter, Facebook, MySpace, etc. As I said, you were warned about this in 2010; when you did it again in 2012, you were warned again; and yet you tried again this year. You have been warned repeatedly: the subject of an article, as well as her friends, family, hirelings, etc., should not be editing an article. If you persist in trying to do so, other than to remove obvious vandalism, you are subject to being blocked at any time. --Orange Mike | Talk 21:11, 8 February 2013 (UTC)

So I see by the post from your co working that I am now self rightious. Nothing could be further from the truth. I was simply trying to update record for research as a service to anyone using Wikipedia to further research Catherine Mary Stewart. this whole thing has really soured me on using Wiki
I have done nothing more than add an official link to Catherine's Facebook - the same link that follows on IMDB and other links that pertain to her career and would be of interest to people that are researching her.
Isn't Wikipedia a research assistant and isn't her facebook link a way to further research her? I think this whole issue has been blown WAY out of proportion. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Ryantbo (talk • contribs) 03:12, 9 February 2013 (UTC)
- Wikipedia has very little use for links to sites controlled by the subjects of articles, since such sites are not independent, lack the requisite neutral point-of-view, and are extremely unlikely to be reliable sources. Wikipedia is supposed to be a source of reliable impartial information. If you attempt instead to use it for promotion and to further the reputation of somebody, then that effort is likely to turn out badly, especially if you do not heed the messages you are given. I certainly bear no ill-will against Stewart (or you); I just don't want to see our rules and principles violated by her "friend and web assistant" trying to puff her up. --Orange Mike | Talk 02:50, 10 February 2013 (UTC)
- (talk page stalker)Hi Ryan. Orange is a nice enough guy - just a little rough around the edges with a sort of straight-forward, no bull-shit tone that might make you think he has it out for you, but (just as he says) he really doesn't. While we do our best not to bite the newbies, he is dead-on. Please see Wikipedia:External links/Perennial websites. In general, no, we don't find that links to a Facebook page are helpful for someone researching the topic. They're usually added by someone looking for Facebook followers/friends. In the future it would be best to disclose your conflict of interest and use the Talk page, so an editor can explain the rules, instead of edit-warring. The outcome might ultimately be the same (the link still doesn't get added) but the experience may feel more friendly.
- Orange, hope you don't mind me poking in on your Talk so often. ;-) CorporateM (Talk) 03:19, 13 February 2013 (UTC)
- @Ryantbo: May I call you Ryan? We are all trying to help you here. Sincerely we are. I am sorry that you feel soured by your Wikipedia experience. It is most definitely not easy for new editors like yourself to understand our large number of policies and guidelines. Of the 122,038 currently active Wikipedia editors, some have specialist experience helping editors like you who are are trying to promote a company or person. Wikipedia does not allow direct promotion. It is after all an encyclopaedia, not a promoters tool. We do allow factual information and thus there are ways of promoting someone using facts that, effectively, by-pass Wikipedia's rules and procedures. Please consider asking for help on my talk-page. I would be delighted to try and help you myself or find another editor with more experience to do so. As an aside, Ryan, what part of this particular message to you treats you as if you are "now self rightious"? --Senra (talk) 14:09, 13 February 2013 (UTC)

- "German-American" refers to nationality, not to language spoken.
- Alsace (not Alsatia) became a province of France in 1648, almost 200 years before Brumder was born, and it was within the sphere of French influence for many years before that.[1]
- Alsace did not become part of Germany until 1871, many years after Brumder left there.
- In 1871, most Alsatians objected strenuously to being annexed by Germany, considering themselves French nationals. Tens of thousands of them moved from the province rather than be ruled by Germany.
- How does this article benefit from labeling Brumder "German-American", when it clearly describes his strong ties to the German-American community?
- This article has no lede. Why did you delete it?
-- Mesconsing (talk) 21:05, 14 February 2013 (UTC)
- Sorry about the lede; glad to try to fix that. The German Alsatians such as Brumder were almost obnoxiously proud of beeing German-American; the Germania Building's missing statue was of Germania Triumphant, a statue created after the Prussian victory in the Franco-Prussian war of 1870; but it's certainly not worth getting into an edit war with you, one of our most valued Wisconsin editors (along with RFD, of course). Forward! --Orange Mike | Talk 21:13, 14 February 2013 (UTC)
- I've read extensively in the history of Germany, Alsace, and Lorraine, as well as German-American history. I've never found anything to support your assertion that Alsatians were "almost obnoxiously proud of beeing German-American". They may have settled near German immigrants because of the common language, but everything I've read says they maintained their distinct identity as Alsatians, not Germans. As far as I'm concerned "German Alsatians" is an oxymoron. Thanks for whatever you can do for a lede. -- Mesconsing (talk) 21:37, 14 February 2013 (UTC)
- Maybe it was the Milwaukee German-Alsatians; or maybe Brumder's personal prejudices and desire to be perceived as a true Milwaukee German flavoring the press here (which he came pretty close to controlling outright); or (shocking though it may be to suggest) I could be wrong. I hope the current article structure is to your satisfaction, as I genuinely do value you as a collaborator here on Wisconsin articles. --Orange Mike | Talk 21:47, 14 February 2013 (UTC)
- I suspect it may have been a Brumder thing. My reading of Alsatian history is that Alsatians have always had a strong regional identity (i.e., "Alsatian") that is neither French nor German, although they have always maintained a French national allegiance. Collins has said "Alsatians also have an intense loyalty to France whose citizens probably have a stronger feeling of national identity than those in most other European countries."[2] That refers to today, but of course, that loyalty didn't crop up yesterday. Newer work examining the period of German rule (1871-1918) suggests that opinions, feelings, and identity were very complex, if not quite all over the map.[3] And authorities always tried to redefine Alsace's past (e.g., revisionist history) to legitimize their political maneuvers. It's not surprising this is a difficult topic.
- Maybe it was the Milwaukee German-Alsatians; or maybe Brumder's personal prejudices and desire to be perceived as a true Milwaukee German flavoring the press here (which he came pretty close to controlling outright); or (shocking though it may be to suggest) I could be wrong. COI issue at Rushka Bergman
Hi Mike. I was posting a comment on User:Mathonius's talk page and happened to notice this thread, where User: 24.39.127.109 admits to being the personal assistant of Rushka Bergman. She said her name is Callie Beusman. The IP also made this edit where she admits her connection to the Bergman. As you'll see, IP 24.39.127 hasn't simply been editing the article, she has actually been the primary editor of the article and, most importantly, seems to be under the mistaken impression that her boss owns the article and can therefore demand what content stays or goes. I assume she is also 24.39.127.198 and User:24.39.127.92, who have edited the article. Thank you very much. --76.189.111.199 (talk) 05:37, 21 February 2013 (UTC)
- Thanks for the heads-up; I've taken a whack at it. --Orange Mike | Talk 15:52, 21 February 2013 (UTC)
- Great, thanks. It surprises me that no one has addressed the COI issue with (the editor claiming to be) Bergman's personal assistant (24.39.127.109); the only activity on her talk page are some mild warnings for content removal a few weeks ago. And when someone with a clear COI posts a comment to a reverting editor like this: "Everything that I removed I was personally instructed BY RUSHKA BERGMAN to do. I would kindly ask that you please stop replacing the information once I take it off. This is an instruction from Rushka Bergman",[3] it's clear that there's a big problem. Haha. Hopefully, you can advise her. --76.189.111.199 (talk) 19:40, 21 February 2013 (UTC)
Just created this today... But sadly got nominated for deletion eight minutes after. COI aside, do you think you're notable enough to merit an article? ☯ Bonkers The Clown \(^_^)/ Nonsensical Babble ☯ 10:24, 21 February 2013 (UTC)
- Don't feel bad. Some articles get nominated after two minutes. So Mike made it 300% longer. :P --76.189.111.199 (talk) 20:06, 21 February 2013 (UTC)
Template Creation Question
I am helping User:Geremy.Hebert create this template User:Clarkcj12/Edit War Prestiege, we were wondering is there a way to make it so, if I create a param for the revert number, that the message will change when you change the revert number, so like if you put number 5 in the revert number param, it will produce one message, but changing the number will replace that with another message. He wanted to allow the template to be Subst: so, I know if you subst the template, then chaining the number won't do anything once its subst'ed. So, if you can give me some advice about what variable to use to allow this changing of the text, let me know. --Clarkcj12 (talk) 00:47, 22 February 2013 (UTC)

Userpage advice
Mike, in the wake of our "that Raven?" exchange, I've written myself an actual userpage to answer that question from others... but with substantial misgivings, and I'd appreciate your advice as (1) an experienced Wikipedian (2) who knows me, and will take into account I left that page only one line long for six years. I dislike boasting; I detest braggarts; and the whole Essjay affair ought to have left everyone permanently wary of claimed expertise, especially as argument ammo. I've never brought up such things in arguments, only pointed to resources and asked people to go look for themselves (e.g. in Talk:Theban alphabet). To say, now, "Yes, I'm that Raven, the one who did that and that, and that over there, and yes, that too, and yes, who'd have guessed it, the same Raven who did that...." could easily sound as much like a brag as a statement of identity or background or interests. And all the past years I've spent not mentioning such things won't be applied to my credit, once I do mention them. Or so I worry. Please look, reassure me, or suggest improvements in approach. Thanks! — Raven (talk) 22:15, 26 February 2013 (UTC)
- Your userpage looks most exceedingly sound to me: lets the reader know who this guy is and what he's into. Congratulations! My only quibble is that perhaps you should use the Babel boxes to let folks know where they may find an editor who speaks the languages you do, some of which are far more obscure than my own Esperanto and blazon.
- Lazy person that I am, I lean too much on userboxen to disclose my own (strongly-held) positions; and my userpage is perhaps a little autobiographical (though nobody's ever asked me to trim it. --Orange Mike | Talk 22:27, 26 February 2013 (UTC)
- (1) Writing Systems (scripts) interests are quite separate from languages spoken, especially in cases like Khitan, whose last recorded surviving speaker/reader/writer was Genghis Khan's imposing advisor Yeliu Chutsai * — his lineage had been the fallen empire's royal family. The vocabulary we know of is similar to Mongolian; I won't say "amazingly" because the peoples lived in the same area, and I think it likely Khitan as the overlapping older empire's language influenced (≈ "was related to") the younger one's. Talking about Khitan like this is one thing; but putting up a Babel box and claiming I speak it?! pfffft.

- (* Respected, oh yes, but not a hero to this unhappy singer.... "Do-ora Tengri-de, anda-nar, chilugetai unu!")
- (2) Again, post-Essjay, it goes against the grain to make any such claim about any language, script, or topic at all. Either what I'm saying (writing) demonstrates some discernible degree of fluency / familiarity / genuine research, in which case the claim is unnecessary, or else not, in which case the claim is foolish. Besides, if I were here all the time for people to find me, hanging out my shingle might make sense (if people could trust shingles). But I'm only intermittently here; people shouldn't wait around for me. What I do is show up where I feel I have something to contribute, and contribute it (as at Talk:Theban alphabet)... and you'll notice even that has been met with dead silence — I'm sure it's simply because, like me, all those other people simply aren't on all the time; the next time they get on, *I* will be on hiatus, and so forth... the debates will simply take place at a far more glacial pace than the Internet usually affords. — Raven (talk) 06:46, 27 February 2013 (UTC)
- (3) Ah! The bell rang! I remembered what your phrase reminded me of! "... use the Babel boxes to let folks know where they may find an editor..." — Did you ever read Barry Hughart's Bridge of Birds*, set in mythical China? The village's children have fallen ill, strong young man Number Ten Ox is sent into the city to find a detective, and in the Street of Detectives he sees sign after sign after sign advertising the symbol of the Open Eye, all of them equally all-seeing, how is he to choose? But then he sees one sign with a Half-Open Eye: some things I see, it seems to say, some things I don't. And this is the detective he chooses. Wisely, as it turns out. — Raven (talk) 06:58, 27 February 2013 (UTC)

Granted, Tucson may have had two Barry Hugharts of an age to be uncle to a 53-year-old man, but is it so common a name? – Raven (talk) 06:31, 28 February 2013 (UTC)

- "Almost a decade ago": any word of his death then seems to be what Mark Twain called "greatly exaggerated." I wrote Jerry Kuntz, who'd interviewed Hughart in 2000, and although they haven't stayed in close touch since, Kuntz got email from Hughart in 2010, only three years ago. Unless Hughart has learned some necromantic tricks from the Duke of Chin or the Laughing Prince, I don't think he died almost a decade ago. Cheer up! – Raven (talk) 21:29, 28 February 2013 (UTC)

Ben Cline
This BLP of a Virginia state politician has had a section titled "Women's rights" removed without explanation four times in the last week--three by two different IPs, and once by a new named account. All three have edited this article only, and none of the five delete edits has had an edit summary more descriptive than "removed text". The section, while it appears disproportionately long, does appear to have reliable sources, and the deletions appear to be an attempt to remove any negative material about the subject.
Would you mind taking a look at it? I don't care to get into a flat-out edit war, especially not without an outside opinion on the material itself. (I'll look for a reply here.) Rklear (talk) 17:35, 4 March 2013 (UTC)

The section "Women's rights" was removed because it is disproportionately long and focuses entirely on legislation from the 2012 General Assembly that Delegate Ben Cline did not patron. It is inconsistent with the rest of his page that focuses solely on legislation that Cline has patroned throughout his 6 terms in office, projecting a focus that is not big-picture and sadly, one-sided. Cung Le's Wikipedia
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cung_Le Hello, I'm leaving this message to seek assistance from you to see if there can a protection to Cung Le's wikipedia page. It seems that random IP addresses continue to revert his page to change his Ethnicity and Nationality to strictly just Vietnamese. I have provided many sources that label him as either a Vietnamese-American or a South Vietnam-born American, meaning he is currently an American that happened to be born in South Vietnam. In the talk page, a Mod had stated that he is indeed in fact an American based on all the sources. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Talk:Cung_Le Comment This is very clear, he was born in South Vietnam but all that does is make him "South Vietnamese born" place of birth does not equate to nationality (otherwise Australia would have a british prime minister); there is a source here that calls Le "South Vietnamese-born American" therefore unless someone can show with an equally reliable source he is a national of another country then we go with American. Any changes without such a source will be reverted in line with WP:BLP. Mtking (edits) 22:33, 27 December 2012 (UTC)
However, he's already retired. Let me know what you can do or who I need to contact for further assistance in protecting his page. PinoyFilAmPride (talk) 00:01, 5 March 2013 (UTC)

Needing an Admin again... Deja Vu?
Hey, there's an article: Dragan Petrović, that appears as a promotional piece, written probably from the subject of the article itself. The entire article stems both from the guy's personal site and Facebook page. The piles of photos originate there, leaving doubt as to copyright. Whomever is (doing an exceptionally bad job) editing, is untrained, doesn't edit any other articles. Once again, this is about a jazz musician being edited by someone with a username of User:Jazzycrazy, both on Wikipedia and Commons. As you know, I went through all of this with a person editing their own article, and how badly that turned out. Fortunately, I don't know this person, but I find once again the same clues as to possible copyright issues with the pics, probable violations of WP:OR, and more. This article was tagged in January, 2010-- three years ago with a question of notability. THREE years ago? I concur. There are plenty more notable musicians with great accomplishments that need attention. Please help with this. Please answer on my talk page. Thanks. --Leahtwosaints (talk) 17:40, 6 March 2013 (UTC)

The Dragan Petrović has been re-created. I noticed you had been involved in the previous deletion. I am not a deletionist but I'm willing to concede to previous decisions. Please help iron this out. Chris troutman (talk) 21:20, 7 March 2013 (UTC)
- If the subject is willing, and other editors work on it, and can provide appropriate references I haven't any issue with him keeping an article on the Wikipedia- I even checked out his music on You Tube (liking it, too!) thinking the article would just need an infobox and cleanup, but I do have a problem with people who create and edit their own articles, primarily to promote their own careers, which it really seemed to look to me. I had a previous problem with the same circumstances with a different musician and it became a bad situation, which is why I am not the person to make choices of any kind about this, and why I was asking User:Orangemike both because he was instrumental in resolving that scene, and because he's an Admin., and seems to be fair. --Leahtwosaints (talk) 10:19, 8 March 2013 (UTC)
- The world is full of musicians I never heard of, and that's not a problem; but the "article" I deleted after recreation was purest crap, full of lines like, "His compositions are truly elegant and inspiring", "Every new recording continues to keep listeners in anticipation of his next musical adventure", "impressive emotional range that will captivate the ears of jazz and fusion music lovers of all tastes", and "manages to capture the ear in both its; good taste and understated subtle sophistication offering jazz music lovers of all tastes a palette of elegant musical cuisine"! --Orange Mike | Talk 13:36, 8 March 2013 (UTC)

Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/The DO-IT Center
Hi! I hope this is appropriate. (The Wikipedia newcomer's guide suggested it.)
You tagged my (first) article for deletion, The DO-IT Center, because you found that it failed Wikipedia's notability guidelines and described it as a "campus center." That was my fault (i.e., the DO-It Center is notable; I failed to properly present and cite the material). I used your critique to address the issue of notability by adding additional information on DO-IT's nationwide and international programs, Awards, Impact, etc. I also replaced "self-sourced" citations with notable third-party citations (New York Times, Seattle Times, etc.). If you have any feedback on other ways I can improve the article, please let me know.
Thank you, AlmostRutger AlmostRutger (talk) 19:55, 8 March 2013 (UTC)
- This is certainly highly appropriate! The ongoing Article for Deletion discussion is the best place to make your case. If it passes the AfD, then the place for the discussion is the talk page of the article itself. --Orange Mike | Talk 19:58, 8 March 2013 (UTC)
COI questions
Hey Mike, I'm currently working on a draft rfc to help nail down policy on financial conflicts of interests and paid advocates. I'm curious if you think this would be fair and useful: User:Ocaasi/coiquestions. Cheers, Ocaasi t | c 20:15, 8 March 2013 (UTC)
For your information, I've removed the speedy deletion tag from Bill Luckett's article. It's been there for two years and has survived articles for creation. I think articles for deletion would be a more sensible fate for it.--Launchballer 21:10, 8 March 2013 (UTC)

Big battle and apparent COI at NWA Hall of Fame
I just wanted to make you aware of an editing battle between User:Ericsax and User:HHH_Pedrigree at NWA Hall of Fame. Ericsax has made dozens of edits (adding championship titles for wrestlers) to the article since October and then HHH has reverted all of those edits in two reverts of about 37,000 bytes last month and 20,000 today.[5][6]. I have no idea if Ericsax's content is appropriate for the article or not (HHH thinks it's "too much") but in the past few hours Ericsax has added back all the content that HHH removed, and he wrote an edit summary which is essentially an admission of a conflict of interest, as well as a huge misunderstanding about who "controls" Wikipedia articles. His edit summary says, "Please do not undo this again. I have the permission of the NWA to put all the NWA titles the NWA Hall of Fame Member has won."[7] So it appears that Ericsax works for, or has a close association with, the NWA, and mistakenly believes that the NWA controls the content of the article. I just wanted to make an administrator aware of this situation. --76.189.111.2 (talk) 01:01, 11 March 2013 (UTC)
- Update: The battle continues. See this revert of 21,000 bytes. --76.189.111.2 (talk) 11:34, 11 March 2013 (UTC)
I want you to understand that I have the permission of the NWA owners to put ALL the NWA titles that the NWA Hall of Fame member won in the NWA. HHH Pedigree originally deleted my work after the new members were announced last year.
If HHH pedigree believes that the NWA Hall of Fame page should not include all the titles from the NWA, then the WWE Hall of Fame page should not include any references from the NWA, AWA, Mid-South or anywhere else. It should be focused on what that person in his accomplishment in the WWE, not the NWA, AWA or others.
Last year, the NWA allowed a small number of people including myself on a committee on Facebook call the NWA HOF Committee, to help decide who was going to be inducted into the NWA Hall of Fame last year.
I am not sure if you are a wrestling fan or not. I will use this as my example, if you asked either Dory or Terry Funk, Harley Race, Ric Flair, Dusty Rhodes (or his sons Cody and Dustin), Jerry Brisco (brother of Jack), Sabu (nephew of the Original Sheik), the family of Freddie Blassie, and many others that they would want to have all of their NWA titles they won on the page of the NWA Hall of Fame.
Please understand that until the 1990s, the NWA only controlled 2 titles for the men (World Heavyweight and World Junior Heavyweight) and the NWA Womens title. All the other titles were company titles.
I have had a private discussion with one of the NWA owners on Facebook over the weekend and quoted this to me "Thanks for your efforts to fix the wiki page" on Saturday at around 11:00 am.
I sent a message to HHH Pedigree about this as well.Ericsax (talk) 15:51, 11 March 2013 (UTC)ericsax
- I want you to understand that we don't care what "permissions" NWA does or does not delude themselves they can grant for edits to Wikipedia. I further want you to understand that your close connection with this subject means you should not be editing this article, or those on the competitors to the NWA. I am not a wrestling fan; but the word of Dusty Rhodes or Jerry Brisco has no more relevance here than that of Snooki, Silvio Berlusconi or Pinkie Pie has to the articles on their areas of fame. --Orange Mike | Talk 16:11, 11 March 2013 (UTC)
- I answered in the talk page. The Wikiproject only put the most notable championships, not all the championships. If Dusty Rhodes won the NWA WHC, we put it, but we don't put if he won 30 regional, no notable championships. --HHH Pedrigree (talk) 16:43, 11 March 2013 (UTC)
- Ericsax, your comments, particularly the opening sentence saying that you "have the permission of the NWA owners" to add certain content to the article, indicate that you either have not read Orange Mike's comments on the NWA Hall of Fame talk page, misunderstood them, or are inexplicably choosing to ignore them. The NWA and its representatives have absolutely no say in how the article is edited. The article belongs to Wikipedia, not the NWA. The NWA has zero authority over the article's content. In fact, they have a gigantic conflict of interest, as Mike clearly pointed out. So even if you in fact had "a private discussion with one of the NWA owners", it is meaningless. Article content is completely controlled by Wikipedia's volunteer editors, based on the encylopedia's policies and guidelines. I have no opinion on whether the content you want to add to the article is worthy of inclusion or not, but you are welcome to to discuss it on the article's talk page with other editors in order to achieve a friendly and productive consensus. In any case, I'd strongly suggest that you stop invoking any personal connection you may have to the NWA; it's only hurting your cause. Please, just listen to what Mike is telling you. You should not only stop editing articles about the NWA, but also those about its competitors. 76.189.111.2 (talk) 16:43, 11 March 2013 (UTC)

- I don't understand your question, Eric. --Orange Mike | Talk 22:27, 11 March 2013 (UTC)
- Ericsax, Mike can certainly respond, but what exactly do you mean when you say that the "same thing" should apply to HHH about any editing you do? You are the one who has acknowledged having a direct, personal connection to an owner of the NWA. --76.189.111.2 (talk) 21:31, 11 March 2013 (UTC)

Re: Shout! Factory

That kind of reasoning gives the spammers an excuse. --Orange Mike | Talk 03:25, 12 March 2013 (UTC)
Hi Mike I would love to have a discussion/debate with you how I feel that your removing my editing was in fact disruptive as it shows a possible political agenda. If the two words which came into use at approximately the same time are both not listed as "pejorative neologism" then neither should be. I was not trying to be disruptive, rather I felt that the same standard should be applied to both words.
Thanks in advance for what I hope can be very civil debate/discussion
Jeff-mn (talk) 11:04, 12 March 2013 (UTC)
- The histories of the two terms are totally different, and must be addressed separately. Cooper, sole coiner of the word "hoplophobia", openly admitted from the git-go that with he was making up a cute pejorative, a term calculated to imply that his political opponents were neurotic if not insane. If you feel the article on the term "homophobia" needs improvement, discuss it on that term's talk page. For all I know, you might be right about that word (though bluntly I doubt it); make your case in the appropriate forum. I do know that that term has a much more complex history, one I myself am not interested in going into; see WP:OTHERSTUFFEXISTS. --Orange Mike | Talk 14:36, 12 March 2013 (UTC)
- OK I have posted to there but also I will post a similar thing here as there is obviusly some very strong emotions from you. You to quote your page are: "... a Wikipedia administrator," they why you didn't follow the guidelines WP even someone as new as me has found? First that was my first edit ever, yet I was told by you that disruptive editing would lead to me being blocked from editing yet I did exactly what WP:Introduction says to do "Don't be afraid to edit – anyone can edit almost every page, and we are encouraged to be bold! Find something that can be improved and make it better—for example, spelling, grammar, rewriting for readability, adding content, or removing non-constructive edits" Also I read on WP:Bite Dont bite newbies - well after getting that from an admin who is in the top 400 editors I do feel that you bit me. Also it seems you assumed that I was not honestly doing this in good faith as it says an admin should do. WP:DSAN. I was. I do admit rather stupidly I missed the talk page (I see it now) and will propose there. If I could figure out who to complain to a council of admins (surely something like that must exist) regarding my greievnce I would. user cazimir - your note
orangemike - I wasn't using this account but used it for some additions to historic/geographic articles and just through mindlessly continuing, you are right in that a conflict of interest has developed that now looks rather stupid, for which I apologise. I'm afraid that's the process of wanting to be contributive but learning wikipedia, making mistakes, and having two young kids - although none of those excuse. I've done a bit of reading since receiving your user talk note, before replying. A lot of that I should have done when picking up things at the beginning, but life sadly doesn't happen like that.
In reference to the Frink School article, it was reasonable for one of the former students of a small independent school allied to one of the important British sculptors to place it in context, but it now looks a conflict as all the non-notable alumni have disappeared following your edit except a link to what is now me. It would be better with no mentions of prior students at all. I think there is other evidence to support the School's 15 year history, and the alumni are not the reason for its notability in art historic terms, I think.
More importantly, I'm concerned about the objectivity of posts of anything that I've edited that has concerned a link to JE... do you want me to review this myself, or suggest how I liase over this? I think about 80% of my edits are concerning other sculpture or art or heritage related subjects, and just general corrections when I happen to be browsing. On the other items where COI must have existed, I'm fastidious about the objectivity of independent/public domain references...(i.e. some recent additions to the JE page, where the most obvious, blunt conflict exists) but of course even my objectivity will be subjective.
A salutory lesson, but please advise what is best course of action and I'll put some time to it. I'll hopefully be a better editor as a result, if given the chance. You'll have to advise what is best course of action with the user... do I just continue but make well sure I'm not doing anything with close connections, or do I need to end this user account? Please advise...

Hi Mike, I was wondering if you'd be able to comment on User:AccuracyInPosting's continued use of court documents as sources. This seems like a clear violation of WP:OR especially given the contentious nature of this BLP. Was wondering if I could get your take on -
Hi Mike - dealing with a weird one here, an interesting neferious sock/meatpuppeteer:
Sorry for the Alt, but I know the Subject is watching my main account. Was looking for a "sanity" check if this type of situation is "normal" or should get outside intervention.
User A opens a RFC, asking to keep, move or edit/change a constentious sentance.
User A: Remove
User B: Remove (And was WP:Hounded with revert by User D on another article Talk page, corrected by a 3rd party)
User C: Remove
User D: Retain
User E: Retain
User F: Reword to make less contentious - provides an example sentence.
User G: Reword to make less contentious
- User B tweaks User F Sentence.
User E: Agrees with re-word edit.
User A: Agrees with re-word edit.
User B: Agrees with re-word edit.
User F: Agrees with re-word edit and asks why User A "Made a new account to just fight this one issue.".
User G: Agrees with re-word edit.
User D: Makes no attempt at compromise.
Per WP:EDITCONCENSUS - the process appears to be an edit is made since we found a compromise.
User B makes the compromised edit to the article. User D reverts stating consensus has not occurred, use talk - but does not make any contributions, says what is wrong etc....
User A, the one who initiated the RFC suddenly turns red (No longer exists) - possible hack - user had no history of abuse/etc..(Is there any way to check for banned/blocked users quickly?)
User B gets a DNS Poison attack, with google redirecting what looks like the Wikipedia page - but its the foundation page. (Unknown to all) Cleans DNS issue and still "kickin"
User E ....suddenly request formal closure, since there is no consensus....which is weird, that user agreed with the tweaked sentence a day before.
So looking for your take - is this situation weird or is it just me? What actions (if any) would you recommend?MrSmith90210 (talk) 05:46, 18 March 2013 (UTC)

BLP Help!
Hey there! You look like just the guy I was looking for! S0 I am new and my first post has recieved some BLP criticism. I believed I made it about as nuetral, fact based and relevant as possible but still recieved a tag today. Any advice is greatly appreciated! I just want to make sure that unbiased, factual pictures are painted of the topics I wish to help build. Topic concerning John Dewey Academy. Troutbum898 (talk) 01:27, 22 March 2013 (UTC)
- Hey again. I must say I had asked many others to read and review my post. They had all given a thumbs up and much pain has once again been felt by many at the deletion of it once again. We had some victims all rejoicing last night at the many nods of approval we had received. It is the small victories we take pride in as fighting against victim-blaming (especially amongst minors) and rape/abuse cover up (especially in schools/churches). This is an uphill battle to say the least. We need to come to an agreement on this topic. 1.) How the model of therapy used at a therapeutic school is wrong to even delineate I have a hard time understanding. I said nothing positive or negative about it and cited the published books written by the faculty of JDA promoting these methods. Some people promote Attack/Confrontation Therapy (though never has a single study been done to say it works though many have proven its damaging impact on peoples lives, I could also lead you to sources from the APA citing these facts) some people do not promote or accept it and in the industry it remains very. very controversial. This is why I think it is important for it to be delineated and part of the picture regarding an unbiased encyclopedic portrait of JDA. Either way, I left it up to the reader to decide. Each book I cited even refers to case examples in JDA. This to me seems like an exceptional source. I even had the link open up to the pages that directly reference Attack/Confrontation Therapy. 2.) How rape and abuse at a school for vulnerable teens perpetrated by faculty in an incredible power position can not be included in the full, unbiased story is also hard for me to understand. I only stated that it had happened and even gave the Perp his own voice in defending himself. 100% neutral. Again, I gave a link to an article that refers to the crimes committed. I only stated that these horrific crimes had happened, quoted the Perp in defending himself, gave factual links so readers could investigate on their own and come to their own opinion as to whether it is good, bad or however they choose to interpret the crimes. So where do we go from here? I think a conversation regarding this topic is incredibly important and for every victim past present and future a answer regarding rape/abuse cover-up should be delineated. Troutbum898 (talk) 15:00, 22 March 2013 (UTC)— Troutbum898 (talk • contribs) has made few or no other edits outside this topic.

Why did you delete the crest (rap group) page, can it be restored?
Sorry to ask as it's going back more than a few years, I'm hoping you remember why you deleted the entire page though as now I can't find anything on the group here and information is scarce elsewhere. Can the page please be restored as I'd love to actually know how many albums they've released (if it's mentioned?) and I'd also love an explanation as to why you deleted the page in the first place. Thanks

- It was an article about a band with no credible assertion of notability, consisting of a list of their self-published albums copied off their MySpace page. --Orange Mike | Talk 14:55, 22 March 2013 (UTC)
Question about reverting
I would like to revert this users edit see this diff back to the user User:VIAFBot but the user that made the vandalism edit was an IP address as shown in the history logs, the thing is that also since that edit the User:Addbot did the migration removal of the Wikidata Projects interwikilinks for that page witch is a legitimate edit. So I can't revert it as under vandalism. How should I go about reverting it to before the Vandalism but without wiping the history of the Addbot edit? I know this is confusing but if you need some help in maybe explaining things better let me know. And I will try to explain better. --Clarkcj12 (talk) 04:04, 23 March 2013 (UTC)
- You can't do a simple revert. What you'll have to do is restore the lost content by re-editing the current version to the clean version. Then, do an edit summary saying something like, "restoring content removed by IP vandal on date X". --Orange Mike | Talk 12:35, 23 March 2013 (UTC)

Re: blocking of user VHlab
Hello Orangemike, I was disappointed today to learn that you blocked my username VHlab. I understand you believe there is an apparent COI, despite the fact that we are a non-profit, open access group sharing many of the values of Wikipedia (dissemination freely of knowledge and education). How can I access the code/markup of the sandbox of the user VHlab? Would it be possible to have it sent to me somehow? I can no longer access the revision history of the sandbox. Thank you, Ryan — Preceding unsigned comment added by 128.101.136.10 (talk) 19:17, 11 March 2013 (UTC)
- I can't speak for Mike, but it seems that this is a pretty clear-cut case. First of all, your account was blocked because it violated our username policy: Wikipedia:Username policy. Second, the page you created, The Atlas of Human Cardiac Anatomy, was both promotional and contained a huge amount of copyrighted material which could, in addition, only be described as promotional (and could, conversely, in no way be described as neutral). Third, one wonders what content you wish to access, since most of it was copied from pages such as this one and this one. If it's the coding you wish to preserve, that's unfortunate, but the page as you had created it was in no way acceptable for Wikipedia anyway. I hope this answers your questions. You are welcome to contribute under a new username, as long as you make sure that your edits are neutral and follow our guidelines. Thank you, Drmies (talk) 20:06, 11 March 2013 (UTC)
- As Drmies says, just because you are a non-profit does not exempt you from following our rules about corporate role accounts, etc. Wikipedia is not here to promote your cause, however noble you perceive it to be. Our strictures on self-promotion make no exception for non-profits. --Orange Mike | Talk 22:25, 11 March 2013 (UTC)
I understand, but would like to access the coding anyway. Is there a way to do this? BTW Drmies, you're extremely rude- would you address me this way if we were talking in person? Simply no need for it. I understand now from Orangemike that I was in violation of the terms and appreciate his respectful and educating responses. I didn't read the hundreds of pages of documentation before creating my first page. I'm sure it's frustrating to you and the community that people do exactly what I did. It is funny though because so many of the corporate/political/individual pages are created by employees obviously...
I apologize, but give me a break Drmies. I was actually pretty pumped about being able to contribute to the community since an expert in varied fields, but this is a quite souring experience. Drmies- what was not neutral about the article that I wrote? It simply explained the utility, process, and content of the website. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 128.101.136.10 (talk) 20:31, 12 March 2013 (UTC)
- Non-neutral content that doomed the piece included the repeated "generous"-"generous"-"generosity" shout-outs to donors; the repeated use of the ® symbol (forbidden here); and self-lauding phrases like "a wealth of information". That's one reason, frankly, I'm reluctant to send you the prior version, since it strikes me as a poor role model. (That, and the use of copyrighted material.)
- "so many of the corporate/political/individual pages are created by employees obviously"? Alas, you are right. That, in fact, is why we are so harsh and precipitate when we spot such conflicts-of-interest.
- Believe me: we really are eager to get the help of subject-matter experts here, and I hope your little brush with the buzz saw does not keep you from helping in ways that don't impinge on our COI and copyright policies. --Orange Mike | Talk 20:48, 12 March 2013 (UTC)
Hi Orangemike, thank you again for the kind response. If there were a way to get access to the code I would greatly appreciate it. I will not be re-posting this article myself, as I'm sure it would be a waste of time. I would like the code for future reference on formatting. Regarding the copyrighted material I was in the process of filing the documentation needed for free use per CC-BY-SA 3.0 after the page was deleted (When I uploaded the files I listed that I am the copyright owner and didn't realize that this was not sufficient since it is in an option when you upload. I'm still confused by this to be honest.). I was wondering, is there an acceptable way to have a page made by someone neutral- e.g., could I ask a student who is not involved with the project to create the page? This may be getting into technicalities, but hardly think calling organ donors generous is being non-neutral-- I do agree that there is self-lauding that should not have been included and the user can draw their own opinion as to the value of the content. Thank you again for the educating posts! — Preceding unsigned comment added by 128.101.136.10 (talk) 16:14, 15 March 2013 (UTC)
Hi Orangemike, should I take your non-response as a 'no' to be able to get the text/markup from the page/sandbox that was deleted? Thanks again. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 128.101.136.10 (talk) 15:31, 25 March 2013 (UTC)

Their act of changing without submitting any reference is totally contrary to the Wikipedia terms and conditions. White noise online is real!
Not to be rude but there is a game called white noise a tale of horror, you can find this game on the xbox360 in the indie game channel with a price of only 80 microsoft points which is equivalent to $1.00 it's still a work in progress and I kindly ask you to not use prejudgment before you place a deletion template on it. - If there are no references to it in reliable sources, then that's a pretty strong indicator that it is not notable, and there should not be an encyclopedia article about it. Many things are real but not notable. --Orange Mike | Talk 17:26, 29 March 2013 (UTC)

- Face it: a lot of indie games are like self-published books: not notable and not likely ever to be notable. That doesn't make them bad or worthless; nothing wrong with exploring that end of your chosen pursuit. --Orange Mike | Talk 20:04, 29 March 2013 (UTC)

Hey Mike--
Toby Higbie of the UCLA History Dept. is going to have a course in the coming term (begins Tuesday) in which he's going to assign each person in his 100 student class to write or improve a Wikipedia article on the biography of a labor or political leader, union, or other political institution. I've told him I'd try to round up four or five sympathetic Wikipedians to be available to answer any questions the students during the term. The assignment is due May 30 and college students being college students, it can reasonably be expected that the bulk of the queries will happen in the week or two prior to that date. Care to take on a project?
I just found Joel Goffin which was written in part by the subject and by a number of other editors who appear to be related to the subject. The subject appears to be notable, but the article is promotional. I'd work on fixing it up, but I already have too many wiki-projects pulling me away from my schoolwork. I was thinking of an editor who might be able to make the article neutral and you were the first to come to mind. Ryan Vesey 23:37, 1 April 2013 (UTC)

Thank you for fixing the "Democrat incumbent" that I missed. I am not particularly fond of that particular phrasing either. As for your question in the edit summary, the only reason there is an article on him at all is because of his son's activities right before the 2008 elections; the article was created the day before David Kernell was arrested (after the FBI interrogated him). Notice the redlink on the incumbent who beat him in 2012? I suspect that most of the TN assembly members and senators are in the same state. Unless someone goes through and systematically adds at least stub bios for everyone who has served in the state legislature, most of those people won't get articles unless they get elected to the US Congress or the state governorship. (Some states are better covered; I am pretty sure that there are several states which are complete or nearly complete for legislators elected in the past 20 years or so, but I'm not sure beyond that.) I really think Kernell's BLP (in its current tragic state) is a coatrack, but there's no way it would ever get deleted at an AFD, and partisans on both sides would be screaming about "Wikipedia whitewashing" or something similar. (rolls eyes) Horologium (talk) 20:03, 2 April 2013 (UTC)
- I'm working on the Wisconsin legislature back to territorial days; I've decided to start with the minority parties first: done all the Socialists, Greenbacks, Union Labor; working on the Free Soilers, then the Populists, probably Whigs after that. I have done a few Tennessee legislators, including Republican Ray Bodiford, who beat me in 1974 (I was 20, unemployed and on food stamps; he was an incumbent and had Henry Loeb doing fundraising for him). --Orange Mike | Talk 20:08, 2 April 2013 (UTC)

Block RubiconMinerals
Hello Mike, my name is Alan Walker and I am a member of Wikimedia Canada. This evening we were contacted by the owner of the account RubiconMinerals that you had blocked. The woman is new to Wikipedia and was attempting to update/correct some factual errors on the article for the company. I realize this may be a conflict of interest, but it appears that her account was blocked without any talk page discussion. Can you expand on your reasons for blocking her account? I can't see any evidence that she had actually done anything malicious on Wikipedia. Alan.ca (talk) 00:01, 4 April 2013 (UTC)
- User:RubiconMinerals was a violation of our username policies, as a role account, and was blocked on that basis. Additionally, her very first edit dropped this kind of promotional language into the article: " focused on the responsible and environmentally sustainable development of its Phoenix Gold Project... Rubicon is well-funded and its flagship Phoenix Gold Project is fully permitted for production.... controls over 100 square miles 65,000 acres (26,000 ha) of prime exploration ground in the prolific Red Lake gold district" That's spamming. --Orange Mike | Talk 03:03, 4 April 2013 (UTC)
- Mike, I have never seen a block like this before and I can see where it's coming from, but in future, please bear in mind that sometimes there is potential that these new editors could become valued contributors to Wikipedia. We need to teach people how to use Wikipedia and give them an opportunity to learn. Thank you for your hard work on maintaining Wikipedia and I hope you understand that I don't have a personal issue with your actions, but I am hoping in the future we can handle this better. Alan.ca (talk) 02:46, 5 April 2013 (UTC)
- ? There is an entire category of block, the softerblock, for corporate role accounts that are not behaving too badly; and a harsher one, the spamuserblock, for corporate role accounts that are spamming us already. I'm sorry, Alan, but I'm well-known as having a very low tolerance for people who want to commit public relations in our articles; and I see nothing to indicate that this person is anything else but another flack with a corporate agenda. --Orange Mike | Talk 02:52, 5 April 2013 (UTC)
- there may be a potential for someone like that to become a productive contributor. ... just about the same chance there is for me to shit gold (in an environmentally responsible manner, of course). I am certain the Wikimedia foundation is not planning on spending a lot of funding on allowing Wikipedia to become a free corporate webhosting site.-- TRPoD aka The Red Pen of Doom 02:56, 5 April 2013 (UTC)

Conflict of Interest?
Hi Orangemike, A few months ago you helped me as I was creating and researching the Brad Hatfield article. Since then I've created a couple more articles. I just noticed today that the Brad Hatfield page and an older page I put up, Andrew Left, have been slapped with COI tags. No reasons are given. I'm not connected to either of these subjects, or any other subjects I've written about on Wikipedia. Can you review and, hopefully, remove those tags? (BTW, I've been working on this article -- [10] -- for several weeks, and now I'm worried that if I post it to the article space it, too, will be given a COI tag.) Thank you in advance MartinMartin226 (talk) 19:17, 4 April 2013 (UTC)
- I will be reverting those tags (in whole) in a moment. im withdrawing that statement at the present time,,,--Ozzie10aaaa (talk) 11:06, 28 March 2013 (UTC)"
if I need further action to retract the statement I will, I was simply upset at what seemed to be unfair tactics my another editor......--Ozzie10aaaa (talk) 15:51, 6 April 2013 (UTC)
Block of User:Ozzie10aaaa not effective
As evidenced here: [11], your block of User:Ozzie10aaaa was not effective. Has this user been unblocked? Gold Standard 21:12, 6 April 2013 (UTC)
- It appears the block never took place. Given that Ozz has withdrawn the legal threat, I'm inclined to let it ride. --Orange Mike | Talk 21:17, 6 April 2013 (UTC)
- Ok, I just wanted to check because I had started an SPI on him here. I believe it is still a sockpuppet policy violation even if he is now unblocked though, right? Gold Standard 23:04, 6 April 2013 (UTC)
Ooo you old cynic, you
[12] looks exactly right. Who was it said "there's no such thing as bad publicity? Regards Tonywalton Talk 23:59, 6 April 2013 (UTC)
Mike, can you please advise Skropper to stop editing his own article? A few days ago, you wrote on his talk page about the article, although your comment was a little off-topic because the article has existed for four years. Anyway, just prior to you warning him, he had complained at the help desk about a couple disruptive edits to the article. That prompted another editor and I to clean up the entire article to remove all the self-promotion, puffery, and other nonsense. It looks like the article was created by a family member of his. Whether Kropper is even notable is another issue, but we just wanted to get the article cleaned up. Anyway, hopefully you can counsel Skropper about COI. Thanks a lot. --76.189.111.2 (talk) 03:05, 8 April 2013 (UTC)
An interesting FYI... the apparent family member who created the article made this edit several months later, and continued making similar edits. --76.189.111.2 (talk) 03:11, 8 April 2013 (UTC)

Lifting the Gibraltar DYK restrictions
A couple of months ago, you opposed a proposal to lift the restrictions on Gibraltar-related DYKs, which were imposed in September 2012. Could you possibly clarify (1) under what conditions you would support a lifting of the restrictions, and (2) when you think it would be appropriate to lift the restrictions? Prioryman (talk) 20:12, 7 April 2013 (UTC)
- If the GibralterPedia mess stops being a snicker in the U.K. media, and nobody has been pushing Gibralter-related DYKs into the queue, I'd say in a couple of years or so. --Orange Mike | Talk 18:13, 8 April 2013 (UTC)
- OK, thanks for your feedback. Prioryman (talk) 22:41, 8 April 2013 (UTC)

Hi Mike, my life has been distinctly short of orangeness recently, and while pondering ways to fix this problem, I thought of you. So, I would like your opinion please; what do you think of this as a Wikipedia contributions history? --Demiurge1000 (talk) 23:58, 9 April 2013 (UTC)
- This editor is particularly interested in a specific category of the performing arts: nothing unusual or illicit about that. Me, I do a lot about state legislators. --Orange Mike | Talk 14:49, 10 April 2013 (UTC)

Sovereign Citizens Movement
I am trying to edit the Sovereign Citizens Movement wiki page...was warned to stop...am trying to figure out how to respond. How do I do that? Is this how? You have made this task very difficult.
