If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

A tag has been placed on Books with cover art by Chip Kidd requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A3 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because it is an article with no content whatsoever, or whose contents consist only of external links, a "See also" section, book references, category tags, template tags, interwiki links, a rephrasing of the title, or an attempt to contact the subject of the article. Please see Wikipedia:Stub for our minimum information standards for short articles. Also please note that articles must be on notable subjects and should provide references to reliable sources that verify their content.

If you think that this notice was placed here in error, contest the deletion by clicking on the button labelled "Click here to contest this speedy deletion". Doing so will take you to the talk page where you will find a pre-formatted place for you to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. You can also visit the page's talk page directly to give your reasons, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the page meets the criterion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the page that would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, you can contact one of these administrators to request that the administrator userfy the page or email a copy to you. Could you perhaps consider creating an article so there aren't all these redlinks around? Daniel Case (talk) 04:36, 13 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]

OK. Do be aware that some editors will just remove such a link when it's added to an article on their watchlist. I almost did. Daniel Case (talk) 04:40, 13 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]
It's not policy; it's just some editors' preferences. I saw that you were a registered, experienced account and that you'd been adding it to a bunch of articles, so I figured you might be planning to create the article. And I checked. No harm in deferring to someone else's way of doing it if the result will be the same as it would be if I'd created it. Daniel Case (talk) 14:49, 13 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]

My apologies for not citing any sources for Sam's correct name but the sad fact is that there weren't any easily locatable. Like most people I thought that his name was Christopher Samuel and that he simply used Sam informally and, regrettably, most "reliable" sources (such as the Clute/Nicholls Encyclopedia of SF) took their cue from my own 1990 bibliography. I was as surprised as anyone when I learned the truth (from the Birth Register cited to me by a reliable friend) and I immediately checked it with Sam's daughter who confirmed it to me in a private e-mail. Regrettably it is a known flaw of Wikipedia that it is overly reliant on "cited sources" and hence prone to repeating errors simply because they are commonly held.

Although I think it was a mistake, I haven't reverted your changes to move the page title back to Samuel Youd (although as one redirects to the other and the text explains the difference it is hard to see why you felt the need to make such a change). However, it is simply wrong to refer to Sam in the body of the text as "Christopher Samuel Youd" as that was never his name. Your suggestion that his correct name was not well known outside of his circle of friends is possibly correct, but it is the name he used throughout the 90 years of his life and it is a sorry state of affairs if a man's name is taken away from him simply because of other's mistaken impressions. The emphasis in the article that this was his birth name gives the impression that he changed his name (formally or informally) at some point and this is simply incorrect - he remained Sam to the day he died.

I am always happy to defer to more experienced editors over matters of format and layout, but don't really find that an excuse for your reintroducing mistakes into an article that I had taken the time to correct. Possibly I'm naive about such matters, but my understanding was that the whole philosophy of Wikipedia was that anyone could correct an error when they found one and that was precisely what I did. If you disagreed with my changes, then it would have been more constructive (and polite) to contact me at the time so that we could discuss it rather than simply trashing the corrections I had made. Philsp (talk) 08:13, 15 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]

I would like to reinforce Phil Stephenson Payne's point here. As far as clarity regarding his real name is concerned, my father did not do himself any favours. However, you reinforce previous errors by simply guessing which name might be the real one. He wrote under at least two versions of his name: that does not make either of them his birth name. Were we to defer to a majority of his readers, he'd end up as plain "John Christopher". If you need evidence to put the record straight I can provide scanned copies of his birth and baptismal certificates, both of which have the plain name "Sam Youd". In the meantime, I have posted a quotation from his (as yet unpublished) autobiography on wikiquote:Sam_Youd. Thanks by the way for your condolences. Kraft's Social Media manager

[edit]

Hi there,

I remember your comment on Talk:Kraft Foods, and I see you're interested in the issue of paid editing.

Our Social Media manager at Kraft Foods contacted me recently to ask about how to interact with Wikipedia. Sénégal

[edit]

[2] I never heard about this name. Dark Attsios (talk) 17:23, 7 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]

I went to the library of Bordeaux today and unfortunately, I didn't find a lot of things. Nothing about « Sénégal » or « Senegal » in Louisiana, but there are circa 9,000 people who are called « Sénéchal » (mainly in the north of France). As described in the first site, many « Sénéchal » went to Quebec during the sixteenth and the seventeenth century, mainly soldiers native from the west of France. I found also Michel Sénéchal (1927-). Dark Attsios (talk) 13:14, 9 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Previous Rfd – Homestead Book Company resurrected

[edit]

I am here as you were part of a previously Rfd discussion HERE. Based on the comments on the Rfd, I believe that this article could have been saved if it was cited better and written more in Wikipedia styling and formatting (Wikified article HERE). I have made substantial improvements to the article and reposted it. As you part of the discussion for Rfd (either you nominated or took part in the Rfd discussion), I wanted to personally notify you. While this is not an official Rfc, I would appreciate any feedback that you may have. I have not notified the original creator of the article as it does not look like they have made any contributions on Wikipedia since the article was deleted. --Morning277 (talk) 18:42, 19 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Your contributed article, "Silent butler"

[edit]

If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

Hello, I notice that you recently created a new page, "Silent butler". First, thank you for your contribution; Wikipedia relies solely on the efforts of volunteers such as you. Unfortunately, the page you created covers a topic on which we already have a page - Silent butler. Because of the duplication, your article has been tagged for speedy deletion. Please note that this is not a comment on you personally and we hope you will continue helping to improve Wikipedia. If the topic of the article you created is one that interests you, then perhaps you would like to help out at Silent butler - you might like to discuss new information at the article's talk page.

If you think that the article you created should remain separate, contest the nomination by clicking on the button labelled "Click here to contest this speedy deletion" in the speedy deletion tag. Doing so will take you to the talk page where you can explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. You can also visit the page's talk page directly to give your reasons, but be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be removed without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but do not hesitate to add information that is consistent with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, you can contact one of these administrators to request that the administrator userfy the page or email a copy to you. Additionally if you would like to have someone review articles you create before they go live so they are not nominated for deletion shortly after you post them, allow me to suggest the article creation process and using our search feature to find related information we already have in the encyclopedia. Try not to be discouraged. Wikipedia looks forward to your future contributions. Mercurywoodrose (talk) 02:02, 22 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]

It is now a GA but I STRONGLY encourage you to improve the article. There is tremendous room for improvement. TeacherA (talk) 03:18, 1 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]

It is so bad that GA was yanked from the article. There is a formal process to remove GA, not just remove it from the talk page. I thought Wizardman, who is supposed to be experienced, would know better.

I have re-instated the GA discussion. This time, however, I am seeking a co-reviewer to review it for GA.

Don't be discouraged. TeacherA (talk) 02:00, 6 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]

The article The Beatles Illustrated Lyrics has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

No assertion of notability. There are a lot of books.

While all contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. —Justin (koavf)TCM 07:52, 4 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Question

[edit]

Hi, Mercurywoodrose. Quick question: File:StrangeAdv207.jpg looks as if it has a proper FUR. I'd be happy to add more detail abut its legitimate use in Neal Adams — which, as described in the image's caption in that article, is notable both as an example of the artist's signature character and as a cover that won the 1967 Alley Award for Best Cover. Reading the extant FUR at that image, I'm not sure what's missing. Thank you for any help or information. --Tenebrae (talk) 19:02, 5 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Good research! Geez, I hadn't realized it was uploaded twice — nice catch. Yeah, I've loved Neal's stuff since I was a kid. I very proudly own one of his original Strange Adventures Deadman pages ... framed for posterity, natch! --Tenebrae (talk) 19:49, 5 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Hi. When you recently edited Flowers of the Four Seasons, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Lotus (check to confirm | fix with Dab solver). Such links are almost always unintended, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of "Did you mean..." article titles. Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.
