Non-free files in your user space

[edit]

Hey there Lexysexy, thank you for your contributions! I am a bot, alerting you that non-free files are not allowed in user or talk space. I removed some files I found on User:Lexysexy/sandbox.

Removal of photograph

[edit]

As far as I can see, this is a free file. It is not clear to me why the bot has removed it. Can you explain, please.Lexysexy (talk) 05:56, 6 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]

The bot saw that the image was tagged with {{Non-free historic image}}. I don't know whether this correct; I suggest you ask at Media copyright questions. -- John of Reading (talk) 12:55, 6 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]
I am not sure how that tag came to be applied, might be my lack of understanding of the wp processes. However, the photo is certainly out of copyright due age, has been in the public domain for years, and is necessary (I think) in my article. A photo from the same source can be found at the Lester Brain article - both men were Qantas pilots at the same time. Can I upload the photo again, rewriting the justification, or does the system prevent this?
There's no need to upload them again, as they haven't been deleted yet and can be re-tagged. I've asked for expert advice at WP:MCQ. -- John of Reading (talk) 08:01, 7 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Orphaned non-free image File:AAKochQANTAS.jpg

[edit]
⚠

Thanks for uploading File:AAKochQANTAS.jpg. The image description page currently specifies that the image is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

Note that any non-free images not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described in the criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. Skier Dude (talk) 06:25, 7 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Hi the template you need is {{PD-Australia}} The CC licenses are clearly invalid and fair use is not required. Graeme Bartlett (talk) 11:02, 7 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks, Graeme. However, my next step is still not clear to me - that is, do I reload the picture, using the template mentioned above, or can I reactivate the existing jpg, amending the current wrong material enroute? If I use that template, whereabouts? Sorry to be clueless, this is my first big attempt, and I'm learning on the trot.
You don't have to do anything, as Graeme has edited the three file pages to change the license tag. If you go to File:AAKochQANTAS.jpg you'll see that it now has a big explanation of Australisn public domain rules. Image description pages can be edited just like any other page by clicking the "Edit" tab at the top; the history shows the various tags being added and changed. -- John of Reading (talk) 07:58, 8 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]
You can include the images in the articles again. Graeme Bartlett (talk) 09:40, 8 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you, Gentlemen. All seems to be in order again. Hopefully I'll get the article loaded soon. Cheers

File source problem with File:Short Empire S23 Capella (A A Koch).jpg

[edit]

Thank you for uploading File:Short Empire S23 Capella (A A Koch).jpg. I noticed that the file's description page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you did not create this file yourself, you will need to specify the owner of the copyright. If you obtained it from a website, please add a link to the page from which it was taken, together with a brief restatement of the website's terms of use of its content. If the original copyright holder is a party unaffiliated with the website, that author should also be credited. Please add this information by editing the image description page.

If the necessary information is not added within the next days, the image will be deleted. If the file is already gone, you can still make a request for undeletion and ask for a chance to fix the problem.

Please refer to the image use policy to learn what images you can or cannot upload on Wikipedia. Please also check any other files you have uploaded to make sure they are correctly tagged. Here is a list of your uploads. If you have any questions or are in need of assistance please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Just noting that Pdfpdf wasn't the one that typed in an it was an IP vandal. Cheers. CambridgeBayWeather, Uqaqtuq (talk), Sunasuttuq 12:51, 5 May 2015 (UTC)[reply]

I'll answer here for convenience - the point is that "an" is the correct word in that phrase. 101 corrected the "a" that it seems likely pdf mistyped in the first place. That is why I rejected your revision. In any case 'It's a honour' is not English phraseology. Altho' I haven't bothered to look at his work, and I don't understand why he/she doesn't register, why do you call 101 a vandal?Lexysexy (talk) 00:34, 6 May 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. An automated process has detected that when you recently edited Edna Nell Doig, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page West End (check to confirm | fix with Dab solver). Such links are usually incorrect, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of unrelated topics with similar titles. (Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.)
