Confused...
Hello, I was trying to make an edit on a page. I apparently don't know the rules or etiquette when editing a Wikipedia account and my edit was removed by you. Is there a way you could explain to me what I did wrong and how I can fix it?...the page was Jim Dreyer That profile is so outdated and very inaccurate. Hi. I was just wondering, is it normal at SPI for accounts to be confirmed as socks by a CU but not blocked for three days? They're still not blocked. Case is here. I was just wondering; if I'm just being impatient, please let me know. Thanks, Lixxx235Got a complaint? 03:08, 5 June 2014 (UTC)
- Unfortunately, SPI cases often hang around for a long time waiting to be dealt with, often much more than three days. In my experience that is particularly common at the stage of waiting for a CU, because there just aren't enough CUs, but it also happens when the case is waiting for an administrator (as seems to be the case here), partly because not enough admins choose to work on SPIs, and partly because some SPIs are really difficult and time consuming, so admins tend to avoid those SPIs. Thanks for drawing attention to this one: I'll have a look at it now. The editor who uses the pseudonym "JamesBWatson" (talk) 19:01, 5 June 2014 (UTC)
- Thanks! Thanks, Lixxx235Got a complaint? 19:10, 5 June 2014 (UTC)
- I have just closed the SPI. After posting to your page above, I did nothing but work on that case until I closed it, and that took me 39 minutes. I am not willing to block just because checkuser says so, without checking the behavioural evidence myself, two of the accounts did not have checkuser confirmation so I had to look into those, and I had to have a reasonably detailed knowledge of the case to be able to decide what to do about the master account: those are the reasons why it took me so long. That was a much simpler and more straightforward case than many that I have seen, so perhaps you can get some idea why complex cases tend to be avoided by admins. You are not suitable to be a Wikipedia admin. You see above where it says 'Encyclopedic content must be verifiable'? All I did was remove the venture capitalist tag because it is not verified. How is this defamatory or libelous? You are not following Wikipedia's policy. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 118.90.127.86 (talk) 01:39, 8 June 2014 (UTC)

I nominated said article for speedy deletion under G11, but it was removed. He put a template on it stating that it is under major reconstruction, and no editing should take place. What do you think? Thanks, ❀Larksky12358❀Guestbook 01:20, 8 June 2014 (UTC)

Speedy deletion declined: Ynsa
Hello Lixxx235. I am just letting you know that I declined the speedy deletion of Ynsa, a page you tagged for speedy deletion, because of the following concern: "I don't know what the article is about" is not a reason for speedy deletion. Thank you. Shirt58 (talk) 04:32, 8 June 2014 (UTC)

I need to familiarize myself with precisely those kinds of things - I've spent all my time so far on here creating articles; my experience on the opposite side of the Wikipedia coin is nonexistent. 1Matt20 (talk 04:54, 9 June 2014 (UTC)

Small point of order on AfD
If you nominate an article for deletion, you don't have to also provide an explicit "delete" !vote, and it's usually better if you don't. If you're nominating an article for deletion, it's understood that you are arguing for deletion and your nomination rationale is implicitly a deletion argument (unless you specifically say that it is a procedural nomination and you are staying neutral). Nominating and then adding a separate delete !vote can sometimes lead to accusations of "double-!voting". Things can get pretty heated on AfD. — Gwalla | Talk 04:15, 9 June 2014 (UTC)

- Good advice by Gwalla, and if you ever see the double votes on a Afd, you are allowed to remove them or turn that double "delete" or "keep" into "comment", you can also cross like

Sterndmitri: The Adoption
Dear Lixxx235,
i've found your offer to be adopted by yourself, thank you for your interest to me so much! The fine point to me is that before you leaved me the message, in my turn i had sent a message to Charlesdrakew regarding adoption issues. His decision was positive, so it would be quite stupid from my side to play chinese telephone and change the decisions and intentions now.
But may i be adopted by 2 users? If yes, i would like to be your adoptee with pleasure. Not sure about the established format of interacting within the adopting and Wikipedia, but we can talk in Skype if you want as well, mine account is dmitri7807.
Have a great day! Dmitri (talk)

- @Charlesdrakew:A bleated welcome to Wikipedia to you! You may, of course, have two adopters, but Charlesdrakew is more experienced than me, and our experience completely overlap- counter-vandalism, so I respectfully decline your offer to be adopted by two people. If you want to be adopted by two people, it'd probably be a better idea to find someone experienced in content creation instead of counter-vandalism. Cheers! decline Boxcar Averager Article
Dear Lixxx235, thanks for taking the time to review my proposed article on Boxcar Averagers. I appreciate your feedback, however it leaves me a bit lost in a sense that I don't know how to continue. I carefully read and clicked through your suggestions but I can't find any evidence that my proposal falls into the categories of an essay (personal opinion and feelings) or original research (as there is a piece of equipment described). At the moment I would not even know what questions to ask in the help desk.
When writing the article I took existing articles (e.g. lock-in amplifier etc.) as an example and thought my result is very close in style.
As far as I can see there are no online text book sources that can be simply summarized here as you suggest. But the research papers cited contain the information that is reflected in the article.
As this is my first article to write I very much appreciate to get more concrete input on how to improve my style of writing.
P.S. pls excuse if this is the wrong place to make this posting. The system looks in fact very confusing to me. Drjimbonobo (talk) 12:46, 13 June 2014 (UTC)
- @Drjimbonobo:Yes, this is the right place to ask that question. Sorry, I don't have much time for Wikipedia right now- I'm doing this in a 10-minute break between exams ;). I'll get back to you ASAP. Thanks, Lixxx235Got a complaint? 13:42, 13 June 2014 (UTC)
- @Drjimbonobo:It reads like an advertisement, and it shows people how to do something, which is generally not allowed. OccultZone or Tutelary, sorry to bother you, but would you mind taking a look at Wikipedia talk:Articles for creation/Boxcar Averagers and see if I did anything wrong? Thanks, Lixxx235Got a complaint? 03:27, 15 June 2014 (UTC)
- Comment - Yes it sound like an advertisement to a normal reader who reads the list, 1-2 subsections, then moves on. Such opinion matters. In fact there is a need to improve the article, I won't disagree with the decline. I think that the History section should be either turned into lead or expanded, and it should be the first section of this article. Although if I was the creator, I would've explained some history on the lead of article. OccultZone (Talk • Contributions • Log) 03:32, 15 June 2014 (UTC)
- On the contrary, it does not look like an advertisement in any way. Though it appears to be using technical terms that a normal reader (like myself) don't understand, that can be appropriated by a maintenance tag. For the actual notability of the subject, I see that it's mostly using book sources, which I cannot access. A quick google search notes that there are a ton of sources for the subject, which might show the notability for it if used as references. The 'essay' reasoning for declining imho is a bit spotty. It doesn't seem to be a reflection essay but a malformed article. Some sentences may hint towards an essay, but that can be edited or improved at a later time. Like, for example, the lead is too long, but if you were to separate everything after and then average over multiple integration results (samples). into a different section, it would look alright. All in all, I don't agree with your declining of this article for the reasoning given, to be blunt about it. Tutelary (talk) 03:42, 15 June 2014 (UTC)
- @Tutelary:OK, thanks. I wasn't sure if I was right or not, so that's why I pinged you. What should I grade it as when I accept it? Thanks, Lixxx235Got a complaint? 03:44, 15 June 2014 (UTC)
- Lixxx235, I'm gonna be blunt just one more time; if you're not sure whether to accept or decline an article, then you should skip it outright. I'd rather that backlog just be one article larger than some article being prematurely declined or a crappy article being accepted. We need more AfC reviewers, which is why I invite you to continue doing so, but please be more careful. If indecisive/can't make a decision, skip that article. It's not a race nor a contest to see who reviews X amount of articles. It's about quality, not quantity. Tutelary (talk) 03:48, 15 June 2014 (UTC)
- Right Tutelary, that is one reason why I am not that active on Afc. Sometimes decline can be considered as AGF, so that the article creator may evolve or rewrite the article. What we can say, we still got the article and it can be accepted anytime once it will meet the standards. New editors do take things seriously than needed, so yes, we have to take care of that.
- Lixxx, skipping is a good option. You can maintain a list of doubtful Afc and inform other regular editors such as DGG, Anne Delong for assistance. OccultZone (Talk • Contributions • Log) 03:51, 15 June 2014 (UTC)
- (edit conflict)@Tutelary:OK. If you look, I declined that article more than ten days ago. I am aware that declining it was not the correct course of action. I asked you, someone who is rather critical of me, to review what I did. Thanks, Lixxx235Got a complaint? 03:53, 15 June 2014 (UTC)
- I am not busy right now. I see that now. I wasn't intending to attack you, if you took it that way. Though to answer your question, I need to know what you mean by 'what should I grade it as?' The article? AfC reviews? I can't really tell what you're referring to. This article? Tutelary (talk) 03:55, 15 June 2014 (UTC)

- I'm going to assume you're meaning about the Wikiprojects. If it's something else, please indicate it. Otherwise, it would be start class. It still needs more sources before it establishes that it meets the general notability guideline. I would hold off on accepting it, making a note on the creator's talk page about more references. Then accept it. Tutelary (talk) 04:07, 15 June 2014 (UTC)

- Thanks for the discussion which is extremely useful and interesting to me as a new author. I very much appreciate the „quality before quantity“ approach and will be happy to make changes to the article accordingly and based on your feedback. From the statements above I gather the following points: 1. shorten the lead 2. mention some history in the lead 3. find more publicly available sources to back the statements 4. avoid over emphasizing positive aspects (which seems to give the advertising impression to some readers). Please let me know in case I missed anything. Also it would be wonderful if you could point me to an article of the same kind (description of a scientific instrument) that you consider as a good example. Would you say the article on Oscilloscopes can serve as a role model?Drjimbonobo (talk) 06:15, 17 June 2014 (UTC)

Sorry, I had thought that since most of the people I had sent adopt offers to would be inactive, seeing latest edit dates, etc. I would be glad to take you, but as you can see from this, questions and messages may not get a timely answer. If you would still like to proceed the adoption with me, let me know whether you want a formal "school style" adoption or a more relaxed one. Yes! Yes! Thank you for the offer to adopt me. Really excited and very grateful. Where do we start? Would you suggest me doing this course: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:School_of_Open_course?

Please help me regarding page Opelmart
Hi, Lixxx235,
I am in a big trouble, please help me. I had created a article named opelmart, but it seems to be deleted. I am a new user at wikipedia, and does not know about wiki's terms and policies, so I think I have done some mistake over there. But I am not able to rectify it. Please help me regarding it.
Actually my name is Dipanjan Paul, one and only proprietor of opelmart.com, and I saw that every eCommerce company has a WIKI page, but we don't have any. So I thought that, If I create a page then my company also have a Wiki page. So I create an account and create a article named opelmart.
But after few times it is showing that, it will be deleted. But I don't know what is the issue we have done. Please let me know about the issue. Or if you can please advice me any kind of way out.
Please help us to create a wikipedia article, named opelmart.
Thanks a lot

- @Opelmart:Hi, and welcome to Wikipedia. There are a few points I'd like to address:
- You did not establish that "Opelmart" is notable. Please see WP:NCORP for details.
- Please list the eCommerce companies that have Wikipedia articles. I think you'll find that each one of them is notable, and if not, I will propose them for deletion if you want.
- Because you stated that you are a representative of "Opelmart", please read WP:COI.
- Please note that only one person may have access to a Wikipedia account. Ever. Use of a Wikipedia account on behalf of a group is prohibited.
- I hope I cleared up some of your confusion. If you have any questions, please ask on my talk page. Thanks, Lixxx235Got a complaint? 05:52, 17 July 2014 (UTC)

- Hello, I'm not Lixxx235, but I recommend as the owner of the store that you do not create an article about your store. As per the reasons Lixxx235, your company does not seem notable enough. Please note that we are not the place to host your company articles on demand and we will only wrote about topics that are notable per our guidelines. If, however, you feel that you pass our notability standards, feel free to contact me and I will try to help you. However, please also note that it is still not advisable for you to create an article about your own company as you may, intentionally or unintentionally, try to make the article biased to promote your company, which is against our guidelines. Therefore, you cannot expect a way out of "our side" unless you prove your company's notability. Thank you. Darylgolden(talk) 12:04, 17 July 2014 (UTC)

New huggle 3.1 is going to be released soon
Hi Lixxx235, we are to release a new major version of huggle, but we did receive almost no feedback from our beta testing team, which you are a part of (see https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Huggle/Members). It would be of a great help if you could download it (if you have windows, all you need to do is getting http://tools.wmflabs.org/huggle/files/huggle3.1.0beta.exe and putting it to a folder where you have installed huggle) and test it. You can always get a help with making it @ #huggle connect!
Major changes:
- Multisite support - you can now log in to unlimited number of wikis in 1 huggle session and get a huge queue of all edits made to these wikis. This is good for smaller projects which gets overlooked often.
- Ranged diffs - you can select multiple revisions and get a huge diff that display all changes done to them.
- Fixes of most of bug reports we had so far
In case you found a bug, please report it to bugzilla: https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/buglist.cgi?product=Huggle&list_id=147663 thank you! Petrb (talk) 10:11, 30 July 2014 (UTC)

Natural hazard submission
Hi there - Thanks very much for reviewing my contribution. I looked back at the submission in my sandbox, and I can't tell why my submission was declined. The previous version of this page included a note saying that it had issues (lack of citations). So my main focus in making a contribution at this stage was to add new sources. Can you please give me some additional feedback? I'd appreciate whatever guidance you have to offer.
Also - just to clarify - this was my first submission, and I was a bit confused about submitting and actually already posted the live page in addition to submitting for review. Since my submission was declined, then the live page probably needs to revert to pre-July 25 or whenever I updated the live page. Thanks for your help! Tburress (talk) 16:53, 10 August 2014 (UTC)
- @Tburress:It was just a procedural decline because Natural hazard existed. Cheers and Thanks, L235-Talk Ping when replying 17:05, 10 August 2014 (UTC)
Gotcha - thanks, and sorry about my confusion :) Tburress (talk) 17:08, 10 August 2014 (UTC)
I thought of another question for you. When I added content and citations to the natural hazard page, I was motivated by the "this page needs citations" note at the top. So that's what I mostly did - although I did add a couple of new subsections and content. But when I updated the live page (and in my submission for review), I did not remove the "this page has issues" note from 2009. I wasn't sure if the number of citations I added met the guidelines to remove the directive. Do you know, or is there another place I should ask? Thanks again for your help, Tburress (talk) 17:40, 10 August 2014 (UTC)
- @Tburress:It's good enough for me, WP:V is what guideline you're looking for, but I've removed the tag. Cheers and Thanks, L235-Talk Ping when replying 17:50, 10 August 2014 (UTC)

- Hi, L235 – you will find what you need at Help:Searching#Parameters. The category you will search in is Category:All non-free media. That will exclude all the free media in Commons. – Paine Ellsworth CLIMAX! 22:18, 10 August 2014 (UTC)

- Serves me right for not digging deeper. This is one I'm going to have to sleep on. There is a long-standing open bug report, T4285, so they still appear to be working on this. Joys! – Paine 03:45, 11 August 2014 (UTC)

L235, I'm not sure how much this will help you, but if you search for the first word of a file, you'll note that Category:All non-free media is large and the TOC will help in searches for up to the first two letters. Here is an easy way for that to be extended by use of the URL field of your browser. To the URL:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Category:All_non-free_media
just add:
&from=(the first letters)
to yield:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Category:All_non-free_media&from=(the first letters)
For example:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Category:All_non-free_media&from=lakeland
will bring up a page that begins with all the file names that begin with "lakeland". This only helps if you know the first three or more letters of the file name. Still haven't figured out how to easily search for any word in a file name, yet. I'll let you know when I do. – Paine Ellsworth CLIMAX! 05:49, 11 August 2014 (UTC)
A couple of glitches since yesterday – 1) I tested the above just now and the "&from=
" did not work, so I gave the "?from=
" a try and that worked; however, 2) when I tried a full file name there was a little problem in that the file name after the one I entered was at the top of the page, and I had to go back a page to find my file name at the very bottom (and to the right). So if the ampersand (&) doesn't work, then try the question mark (?), and if your file name is not at the top-left, then try the previous page at the bottom-right. So far, #2 only happens when there is more that one word (separated in the URL by an underscore instead of a plain space), so if there is only one word in your search string, you should not see the #2 glitch. – Paine 12:29, 11 August 2014 (UTC)
Thanks for the info. Cheers and Thanks, L235-Talk Ping when replying 18:16, 11 August 2014 (UTC)
