Western Australian Cricket Association

[edit]

Why did you blank Western Australian Cricket Association? Gigs (talk) 15:30, 17 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I did not blank Western Australian Cricket Association. It redirected to WACA Ground. The two are totally different from each other.--Karyasuman (talk) 07:21, 18 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Where should Western Australian Cricket Association redirect point to? We can't leave it pointing nowhere. Can you write a stub on it? Gigs (talk) 12:23, 18 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

my exams will be over on 23rd. I would write about WACA after that.--Karyasuman (talk) 12:31, 18 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

OK, we should probably leave it redirected until you can make a stub. Thanks. Gigs (talk) 13:25, 18 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

CSA

[edit]

Hi Karyasuman, welcome to Wikipedia (being as no one else has said it). Regarding your edits to CSA, you should take a look at the guideline for disambiguation pages. In particular, entries should be as short as possible to identify the subject and contain only one blue link. The idea is that the reader gets straight to the article they are looking for without being distracted by lots of other links. SpinningSpark 08:55, 25 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Okay as you say. I would follow it.--Karyasuman (talk) 06:22, 27 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Your edits to cricket infobox

[edit]

Hi. I have removed two of your edits to the infobox in Cricket because they are unverifiable. Cricket is not widely known as the "gentlemen's game" and there is no evidence whatsoever that it began in the 15th century. It is first definitely known in the 16th century but is believed to have been invented much earlier. In addition, you have not adhered to the infobox's syntax and I have tidied that to restore its consistency. Would you please take care to ensure that you can verify information you provide as otherwise it will be reverted. Please read WP:VERIFY. --Jack | talk page 03:04, 26 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

In addition, I notice you have uploaded [[File:ICCawardiss.jpg]] for use with Sir Garfield Sobers Trophy. Someone has contested the copyright of this image and it will be deleted on Monday unless you can prove that do have permission to use it, which I doubt. You must make yourself familiar with the site's copyright rules before uploading any image. Just because something is elsewhere on the internet does not mean it can be used here. I'm removing the image from the trophy article. --Jack | talk page 04:03, 26 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Orphaned non-free image (File:2010 qualifycricketu19.gif)

⚠

Thanks for uploading File:2010 qualifycricketu19.gif. The image description page currently specifies that the image is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of "file" pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "File" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free images not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. 2011 cricket world cup

[edit]

Just saw that you have reverted the venue format- as a personal opinion, I find the current format extremely hard to decipher. Wouldn't a simple table with stadium, locations, and possibly the number of matches played be much easier to read? and the pictures attached seem to have no connection to the venues- especially considering the fact that most of the individual articles have pictures on their pages Cheers trakesht (talk) 11:56, 10 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Sorry but in my view this format looks better, just see format of venues in 2010 FIFA World Cup or Euro 2008 or any other such tourney and you will understand the difference.--Karyasuman (talk) 12:29, 10 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Regarding images, you can see 2014 FIFA World Cup and then can understand venue composition. I hope U understand my point.--Karyasuman (talk) 12:38, 10 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]

hmm..that indeed looks good- I guess I will add the venues to the map and put it back, and also replace the random images with that of the actual grounds trakesht (talk) 12:43, 10 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you for taking my suggestions AND understanding my point.--Karyasuman (talk) 15:04, 10 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I hope you enjoy editing here and being a Wikipedian! Please sign your messages on discussion pages using four tildes (~~~~); this will automatically insert your username and the date. A tag has been placed on Cricket in New South Wales requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A1 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because it is a very short article providing little or no context to the reader. Please see Wikipedia:Stub for our minimum information standards for short articles. Also please note that articles must be on notable subjects and should provide references to reliable sources that verify their content. You may wish to consider using a Wizard to help you create articles - see the Article Wizard.

If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hangon}} to the top of the page that has been nominated for deletion (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag), coupled with adding a note on the talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the page meets the criterion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the page that would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Lastly, please note that if the page does get deleted, you can contact one of these admins to request that they userfy the page or have a copy emailed to you. I have nominated Category:International sports programs (edit | talk | history | links | watch | logs) for deletion. Your opinions on the matter are welcome; please participate in the discussion by adding your comments at the discussion page. Thank you. BrownHairedGirl (talk) • (contribs) 09:46, 11 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Your deletion of a large amount of information in the List of attendance figures at domestic professional sports leagues was ridiculous. Next time you want to make such a significant deletion of information, first please consider the type of article (in this case, a list), and then create a section on the Discussion page well in advance so there can be some back-and-forth talk about whether this is a good idea or not. Thank you. Greg Salter (talk) 15:14, 2 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Hey

[edit]

Hi, sorry for the late reply.

Cricinfo and CricketArchive are two different sites.

Sorry I couldn't find any images on the finished stadiums but Pallekelle is already in use for domestic matches.

Thanks, If you think your edits would worry others start a discussion about it in the talk page so you don't start any edit wars.

I have seen that you have contributed much to the cricket articles on Wiki and that is some good work. To me most of these Cricket tournament pages, especially the World Cup ones, seem to be only half done or are very unorganised so if you don't mind maybe you would like to help me in standardising all of these articles and making them better in quality like what we are doing now to the 2011 one?

Take care--Blackknight12 (talk) 06:08, 19 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]

[edit]

Welcome to Wikipedia. It might not have been your intention, but you removed a speedy deletion tag from 1983 Cricket World Cup Final, a page you have created yourself. If you do not believe the page should be deleted, you can place a {{hangon}} tag on the page, under the existing speedy deletion tag (please do not remove the speedy deletion tag), and make your case on the page's talk page. Administrators will look at your reasoning before deciding what to do with the page. Thank you. VernoWhitney (talk) 18:39, 19 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Re: Not a cricket fan

Who says I'm not a cricket fan? And even if I wasn't a cricket fan, that wouldn't impinge on my right to edit the 2010-11 Ashes article. – PeeJay 08:19, 7 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

No offence, but I don't see what business it is of yours what I choose to include on my user page. You may be right, and I may choose to add cricket to my list of interests on my userpage at some point in the future, but the content of my userpage is not the be-all-and-end-all of my editing. – PeeJay 19:41, 7 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Take more care, please

[edit]

When you made this edit you purposely removed the essential "noinclude" parameter and, as a result, all linked articles in the template were categorised within the template's own category, creating a nonsensical situation from the categorisation point of view: e.g. England national cricket team was categorised within a template category, etc. If you do not understand the implications of editing a template, do not make changes until you have consulted WT:CRIC. The lesson for you to learn here is that the noinclude parm MUST be included or else it fouls up the categorisation system. Please take more care in future. ----Jack | talk page 05:32, 18 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Cricket attendances

Only two of those links are from a reliable source, and even then they are from the same site! 2011 Cricket World Cup schedule‎

[edit]

Hi would you mind joining this discussion at Talk:2011 Cricket World Cup schedule. Thanks.--Blackknight12 (talk) 14:12, 2 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]

The article 2011 Cricket World Cup schedule has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

The schedule already present in the main article, this is just a repetition. 2011 Cricket World Cup

While all contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. The speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. ashwinikalantri talk 14:39, 2 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]

A tag has been placed on File:2003 cwcc.gif requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section F1 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the image is an unused redundant copy (all pixels the same or scaled down) of an image in the same file format, which is on Wikipedia (not on Commons), and all inward links have been updated.

If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hang on}} to the top of the page that has been nominated for deletion (just below the existing speedy deletion, or "db", tag; if no such tag exists, then the page is no longer a speedy delete candidate and adding a hang-on tag is unnecessary), coupled with adding a note on the talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the page meets the criterion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the page that would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. ashwinikalantri talk 09:52, 3 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Warm-up Matches

[edit]

The matches played in Dubai are not warm-up for the following reasons.

  1. They include teams that havent qualified for the World Cup 2011
  2. They are on grounds not officially approved for World Cup 2011
  3. The official schedule doesnt include them, but only matches played from 12th Feb 2011.

If you still feel otherwise, kindly discuss. Thanks. --ashwinikalantri talk 15:29, 10 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]

You may have missed it as the page was archived two minutes later, but AshwiniKalantri has started a thread on venue tables in the article on the 2011 Cricket World Cup. I'd appreciate it if you could respond to his concerns so that the article doesn't have to be fully protected again. Cheers, Nev1 (talk) 18:57, 13 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]

AshwinKalantri is at least making an attempt to engage in discussion. This edit warring can't keep going. I would have hoped that protecting the 2011 World Cup article would make that clear. It was not an endorsement of your edit (quite frankly I couldn't care less) but if WP:BRD is not observed, importantly the discussion aspect, then I'm afraid blocks will have to be handed out. Please take the issues to the talk page. Nev1 (talk) 21:09, 14 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Collaboration of the month
Hi there! WP:INCOTM is a WikiProject where editors from different parts of India choose an article and work on it collaboratively throughout the month.
It is a great opportunity to interact with experienced editors from the community and to get the feel of collaboration - one of the reasons and advantages of editing Wikipedia!

This month, Anil Kumble has been the article chosen for GA/FA of the month. And you being a fan of Indian Cricket team, I invite to you to join this collaboration and contribute in making Anil Kumble a good article. BPositive (talk) 06:47, 1 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Replaceable fair use File:2011 IPL Champions.JPG

[edit]

Thanks for uploading File:2011 IPL Champions.JPG. I noticed the description page specifies that this media item is being used under a claim of fair use, but its use in Wikipedia articles fails the first non-free content criterion in that it illustrates a subject for which a freely licensed media item could be found or created that provides substantially the same information or which could be adequately covered with text alone. If you believe this media item is not replaceable, please:

  1. Go to the file description page and edit it to add {{di-replaceable fair use disputed}}, without deleting the original replaceable fair use template.
  2. On the file discussion page, write the reason why this media item is not replaceable at all.

Alternatively, you can also choose to replace this non-free media item by finding freely licensed media of the same subject, requesting that the copyright holder release this (or similar) media under a free license, or by creating new media yourself (for example, by taking your own photograph of the subject).

If you have uploaded other non-free media, consider checking that you have specified how these media fully satisfy our non-free content criteria. You can find a list of description pages you have edited by clicking on this link. Note that even if you follow steps 1 and 2 above, non-free media which could be replaced by freely licensed alternatives will be deleted 2 days after this notification (7 days if uploaded before 13 July 2006), per the non-free content policy. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Mtking (edits) 07:46, 10 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]

About Attendances

[edit]

I personally think that let's have a voting on it. If people are confused to reach the result of some consensus based only on discussions, then we should rather have a voting on the topic. What do you say? Itz arka (talk) 22:03, 11 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]

That's a very good idea.--Karyasuman (talk) 11:03, 14 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]
@Itz arka: It's a shit idea. Wikipedia does not operate on a simple voting system, it works through people having a discussion based on policies. You can't just avoid Wikipedia policy because it suits your motives! – PeeJay 11:45, 15 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]
User:PeeJay2K3 When you can't reach a conclusion, then what? The way that discussion was going on, it would never end. So what would you do about that? Itz arka (talk) 15:09, 15 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]
@Itz arka: Then you go to WP:RFC. The problem with WP:CRIC is that all of the experienced editors have enough sense to avoid these stupid debates, but unfortunately that means that important decisions are sometimes left to inexperienced members who don't know how things work around here. – PeeJay 15:28, 15 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]
But according to WP:Consensus, although it is not always necessary to vote to reach a consensus, but sometimes a vote can decide it when things are complicated, User:PeeJay2K3. Although you are right from your point (also the fact that I'm only a 2-year old member here and highly inexperienced), but still the voting does make some sense. Itz arka (talk) 17:48, 15 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]
@Itz arka: True, but it's also very easy for randomers to come along and add a !vote without adding anything to the discussion. They haven't strengthened either side, they just add to the numbers, and as I say, Wikipedia doesn't decide policy based on sheer numbers, it's on strength of argument and whether existing policies support the proposal being !voted on. – PeeJay 18:01, 15 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]
@PeeJay2K3: Yes. But I also made some argument stating that attendances these days may be notable as per WP:GNG and the information on that website is legal as per their copyright laws, and the crowd records are enlisted there for consecutive matches. You can check this for MCG as an example [1]. Itz arka (talk) 18:26, 15 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]
I don't understand what argument you're making about their copyright laws. Whether or not their info is copyrighted is not in question; the question is whether it is accurate or not. We don't know where they got their figures from, let alone whether or not they're accurate. Also, WP:GNG doesn't apply since we're not making an article about attendances. If that were the case, I might support creating such an article (if you could find a more reliable source). As things stand, though, sources such as the BBC, ESPN and ABC do not record attendance figures in match summaries, which indicates to me that we shouldn't either. – PeeJay 18:57, 15 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]
I wonder if Itz arka knows the policies on canvassing on here. Oh, he doesn't. Lugnuts Dick Laurent is dead 20:35, 15 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Yeah I'm inexperienced, but certainly I'm not canvassing. Canvassing is when someone is trying to influence others to vote or discuss in his/her own way. But I've simply here suggested Karyasuman to have a neutral voting on it, although neither me or Karyasuman started the voting though. It was simply started by someone else (user Jack). Also it was interesting that Jack opposed the subject of the consensus, so this no way can be termed as canvassing or influencing people to come there to have a support vote on it. And I wrote this on Karyasuman's talk page because he was involved in the latter part of the conversation. Itz arka (talk) 01:37, 16 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Did you post on the talk page of anyone who might vote against you? If not, that's canvassing. – PeeJay 13:14, 16 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]
I think being an experienced user, you are well aware of the fact that the kinds of 'ifs', 'mays' and 'mights' don't work here in Wikipedia. And also false accusation will lead you into nowhere. So you should again read the definitions in WP:Canvassing before accusing me falsely. Arka Sarkar 06:07, 17 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]

This is an automated message from CorenSearchBot. I have performed a search with the contents of Sydney Derby (BBL), and it appears to be very similar to another Wikipedia page: Sydney Derby (cricket). It is possible that you have accidentally duplicated contents, or made an error while creating the page— you might want to look at the pages and see if that is the case. If you are intentionally trying to rename an article, please see Help:Moving a page for instructions on how to do this without copying and pasting. If you are trying to move or copy content from one article to a different one, please see Wikipedia:Copying within Wikipedia and be sure you have acknowledged the duplication of material in an edit summary to preserve attribution history.

It is possible that the bot is confused and found similarity where none actually exists. If that is the case, you can remove the tag from the article. CorenSearchBot (talk) 19:51, 4 December 2015 (UTC)[reply]

December 2015

[edit]

Information icon Hi, and thank you for your contributions to Wikipedia. It appears that you tried to give Sydney Derby (BBL) a different title by copying its content and pasting either the same content, or an edited version of it, into another page with a different name. This is known as a "cut-and-paste move", and it is undesirable because it splits the page history, which is legally required for attribution. Instead, the software used by Wikipedia has a feature that allows pages to be moved to a new title together with their edit history.

In most cases, once your account is four days old and has ten edits, you should be able to move an article yourself using the "Move" tab at the top of the page (the tab may be hidden in a dropdown menu for you). This both preserves the page history intact and automatically creates a redirect from the old title to the new. If you cannot perform a particular page move yourself this way (e.g. because a page already exists at the target title), please follow the instructions at requested moves to have it moved by someone else. Also, if there are any other pages that you moved by copying and pasting, even if it was a long time ago, please list them at Wikipedia:Requests for history merge. Thank you. I do remember a discussion related to 2015 Cricket World Cup, but we also had a discussion related to attendance figures in Australian sports, specially cricket during the 2013-14 Ashes and there was a clear consensus to keep attendance for these sporting events if they sourced. Moreover, they are of huge importance in Australia, particularly when comparing Cricket's popularity with other sports. If you have any other consensus to show, you may please. Until then, don't make the article data deficient and almost useless. --Karyasuman (talk) 14:57, 18 December 2015 (UTC)[reply]

We noticed though that when you edited 2015–16 Big Bash League season, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Sydney Derby. Such links are almost always unintended, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of "Did you mean..." article titles. Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.

File permission problem with File:Newstand during the ashes 2010.jpg

[edit]

Thanks for uploading File:Newstand during the ashes 2010.jpg. I noticed that while you provided a valid copyright licensing tag, there is no proof that the creator of the file has agreed to release it under the given license.

If you are the copyright holder for this media entirely yourself but have previously published it elsewhere (especially online), please either

  • make a note permitting reuse under the CC-BY-SA or another acceptable free license (see this list) at the site of the original publication; or
  • Send an email from an address associated with the original publication to [email protected], stating your ownership of the material and your intention to publish it under a free license. You can find a sample permission letter here. If you take this step, add {{OTRS pending}} to the file description page to prevent premature deletion.

If you did not create it entirely yourself, please ask the person who created the file to take one of the two steps listed above, or if the owner of the file has already given their permission to you via email, please forward that email to [email protected].

If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Non-free content, use a tag such as {{non-free fair use}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:File copyright tags#Fair use, and add a rationale justifying the file's use on the article or articles where it is included. See Wikipedia:File copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have provided evidence that their copyright owners have agreed to license their works under the tags you supplied, too. You can find a list of files you have created in your upload log. Files lacking evidence of permission may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. You may wish to read Wikipedia's image use policy. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Stefan2 (talk) 17:14, 1 June 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Disputed non-free use rationale for File:2015 Cricket World Cup Chamins.jpg

[edit]

Thank you for uploading File:2015 Cricket World Cup Chamins.jpg. However, there is a concern that the rationale provided for using this file on Wikipedia may not meet the criteria required by Wikipedia:Non-free content. This can be corrected by going to the file description page and adding or clarifying the reason why the file qualifies under this policy. Adding and completing one of the templates available from Wikipedia:Non-free use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your file is in compliance with Wikipedia policy. Please be aware that a non-free use rationale is not the same as an image copyright tag; descriptions for files used under the non-free content policy require both a copyright tag and a non-free use rationale.

If it is determined that the file does not qualify under the non-free content policy, it might be deleted by an administrator seven days after the file was tagged in accordance with section F7 of the criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions, please ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thank you. Ytoyoda (talk) 06:23, 3 March 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Notice

The article Sportsbrand has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

Non-notable, seemingly defunct company. There are no secondary sources in the article, and searches did not bring up any coverage. Fails the WP:GNG and WP:NCORP.

While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, pages may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the page to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion.
