3rr on quizzing.co.uk

[edit]

I've blocked you [1] for WP:3RR on the afore-mentioned article. Please discuss this here, if you wish to William M. Connolley 20:14, 13 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

You have blocked me under the 3RR. I dispute it because I was correcting simple vandalism. The user 195.93.21.33 was turning the page into an advert, by seemingly pasting an utterly own POV version to the page. Please look at my contributions, I stand by them all. Jw6aa 20:21, 13 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Look at the article now. [2] it's a blatant POV violation and is an advert. Legitimate sections have been removed without justification on talk. Jw6aa 20:23, 13 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Hmm, I admit that this [3] appears to be a perfectly valid removal of gumpf. I'll have a closer look. Some advice: people asserting that they are remving vandalism, when all they are doing is having a content war, is very common. Please make sure that extensive reverts are clearly backed up on the talk page. William M. Connolley 20:41, 13 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Closer look: [4], [5], [6], [7] and [8] are just a content war, to me. You'll have to sit out your block. Please remember that you get no free 3RR pass just for being (or believing that you are) *right*. Out-reverting people isn't good. William M. Connolley 20:46, 13 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]
I contend that it is vandalism in question in most of the examples you cite, as it is a reversion of a seemingly pasted POV version of the article. On the other occasion I have tried to fix the final article with a legitimate edit that was made to the POV version. I don't just believe I am right, 195.93.21.33 is removing content without justification or discussion on the talk page. This is vandalism. Jw6aa 21:06, 13 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

86.130.214.85/Quizzing.co.uk

[edit]

I still get the impression that this is a content dispute, rather than vandalism. Whilst you are clearly doing the right thing by trying to direct the IP to the talk page (and I've tried to do the same on their talk page), you should still be careful not to cross the WP:3RR rule (if they cross the line they can be reported to WP:AN3. That exists to stop pointless continual reverting of an article, even if you are 'right'. If I have time I will try and do some NPOV work on that article... Petros471 20:49, 16 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Could you quickly confirm for me that you're not a business rival of Quizzing.co.uk? The anon keeps claiming this, and I'm not inclined to dig through the talk page to find out whether you have admitted that you are or whether this is just another personal attack. --Sam Blanning(talk) 10:46, 3 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I run a web site (123Quiz.net) that they consider to be a rival. They also consider Davidbod (who created the article) to run a rival web site (ukgameshows.com). My feeling is that this is because they don't want anyone else editing the article. Left alone it becomes a pro-Quizzing Ltd advert. My aim is to keep it neutral. I continually ask what edits I have made are not neutral and consider their problem to be with me personally rather than my editing. Jw6aa 11:06, 3 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for fleshing out the article. Isopropyl 01:00, 20 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Throughbred racing project

Striking your vote

[edit]

Hello Jw6aa,

Thank you for your interest in the Wikimedia Board Election. The Election Committee regretfully informs you that your previous vote was received in error and will be struck according to the election rules, described below.

The Election Committee regretfully announces today that we will have to remove approximately 220 votes submitted. These votes were cast by people not entitled to vote. The election rules state that users must have at least 400 edits by June 1 to be eligible to vote.

The voter lists we sent to Software in the Public Interest (our third party election partner) initially were wrong, and one of your account was eventually included to our initial list. There was a bug in the edit counting program and the sent list contained every account with 201 or more edits, instead of 400 or more edits. So large numbers of people were qualified according to the software who shouldn't be. The bug has been fixed and an amended list was sent to SPI already.

Our first (and wrong) list contains 80,458 accounts as qualified. The proper number of qualified voters in the SPI list is now 52,750. As of the morning of July 4 (UTC), there are 2,773 unique voters and 220 people, including you, have voted who are not qualified based upon this identified error.

In accordance with voting regulations the Election Committee will strike those approximately 220 votes due to lack of voting eligibility. The list of struck votes is available at https://wikimedia.spi-inc.org/index.php/List_of_struck_votes.

We are aware of the possibility that some of the people affected may have other accounts with more than 400 edits, and hence may still be eligible to vote. We encourage you to consider voting again from another account, if you have one. If you have no other account eligible to vote, we hope you reach the criteria in the next Election, and expect to see your participation to the future Elections.

Your comments, questions or messages to the Committee would be appreciated, you can make them at m:Talk:Board elections/2007/en. Other language versions are available at m:Translation requests/Eleccom mail, 07-05.

Again, we would like to deeply apologize for any inconvenience.

Sincerely,
Kizu Naoko

#### Oscars

[edit]

Instead of creating more #### Oscars disambig pages, please create them as redirects to the appropriate #### Academy Awards pages. I have already disambig the later through all the appropriate years. We don't need duplicate disambigs when redirects will do the same thing. Let me know if that doesn't make sense. Thanks! -- JLaTondre 02:21, 8 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I should have gotten all the #### Academy Awards ones, but it would be good if you could double check me. The early years didn't follow the same pattern (there were actually two ceremonies in 1930, I was surprised to learn). I'm hoping I didn't make any mistakes, but it's always possible. Thanks. -- JLaTondre 02:55, 8 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Thumper

[edit]

Hi. If you're reinstating (or just adding) entries on disambiguation(=dab) pages, like you did with Thumper, could you make sure that the linked article at least mentions the dabbed word/phrase? This would make it much easier for the cleanup editors from MOS:DAB to keep dab pages clean, not to mention to not accidently delete entries that have a right to be included. I.e. you seem to have knowledge about Jeremy Paxman but I have never heard of him. If he is really (widely) known as Thumper, you should make this claim in his article, not the dab page. Thanks. :-) – sgeureka t•c 19:44, 3 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I reverted because it is OR; no reference to this nickname from a 'hard copy' publication is on the web. A handful of references on personal websites do not count for Wikipedia. Philip Cross 20:40, 3 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Invitation to Wikipedia meetup in London

[edit]
Wikimedia UK logo
Wikimedia UK logo

Date: 13:00 onwards, Sunday 10 August 2008

Venue: Penderel's Oak pub, Holborn WC1 map

More information: Wikipedia:Meetup/London 12

Hello,

I noticed that you have listed yourself as a Wikipedian in London, so I thought you might like to come to one of our monthly social meetups. The next one is going to be on Sunday 10 August, which might well be rather short notice, but if you can't come this time, we try to have one every second Sunday of the month.

If you haven't been before, these meetups are mainly casual social events for Wikipedia enthusiasts in which we chat about Wikipedia and any other topics we fancy. It's a great way to meet some very keen Wikipedians, but we'd also love for you to come along if you're interested in finding out more about Wikipedia, other Wikimedia projects, or other collaborative wiki projects too.

The location is a pub that is quite quiet and family friendly on a Sunday lunchtime, so hopefully younger Wikipedians will also feel welcome and safe. Alcohol consumption is certainly not required!

Although the meetups are popular, many UK-based editors still don't know about them. It would be great to welcome some fresh faces, so I hope you can come along.

Yours,

James F. (talk) 09:27, 3 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Please forgive the slightly impersonal mass-invite!

Unreferenced BLPs

[edit]

Hello Jw6aa! Thank you for your contributions. I am a bot alerting you that 1 of the articles that you created is an Unreferenced Biography of a Living Person. Please note that all biographies of living persons must be sourced. If you were to add reliable, secondary sources to this article, it would greatly help us with the current 2 article backlog. Once the article is adequately referenced, please remove the {{unreferencedBLP}} tag. Here is the article:

AfD nomination of Water hog

[edit]

An editor has nominated one or more articles which you have created or worked on, for deletion. The nominated article is Water hog. We appreciate your contributions, but the nominator doesn't believe that the article satisfies Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion and has explained why in his/her nomination (see also Wikipedia:Notability and "What Wikipedia is not").

Your opinions on whether the article meets inclusion criteria and what should be done with the article are welcome; please participate in the discussion(s) by adding your comments to Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Water hog. Please be sure to sign your comments with four tildes (~~~~).

You may also edit the article during the discussion to improve it but should not remove the articles for deletion template from the top of the article; such removal will not end the deletion debate.

Please note: This is an automatic notification by a bot. I have nothing to do with this article or the deletion nomination, and can't do anything about it. --Erwin85Bot (talk) 01:08, 30 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]

London Wikimedia Fundraiser

[edit]

Good evening! This is a friendly message from Chase me ladies, I'm the Cavalry, inviting you to the London Wikimedia Fundraising party on 19th December 2010, in approximately one week. This party is being held at an artistic London venue with room for approximately 300 people, and is being funded by Ed Saperia, a non-Wikipedian who has a reputation for holding exclusive events all over London. This year, he wants to help Wikipedia, and is subsidising a charity event for us. We're keen to get as many Wikimedians coming as possible, and we already have approximately 200 guests, including members of the press, and some mystery guests! More details can be found at http://ten.wikipedia.org/wiki/London - expect an Eigenharp, a mulled wine hot tub, a free hog roast, a haybale amphitheatre and more. If you're interested in coming - and we'd love to have you - please go to the ten.wikipedia page and follow the link to the Facebook event. Signing up on Facebook will add you to the party guestlist. Entry fee is a heavily subsidised £5 and entry is restricted to over 18s. It promises to be a 10th birthday party to remember! If you have any questions, please email me at chasemewiki at gmail.com.

Hope we'll see you there, (and apologies for the talk page spam) - Chase me ladies, I'm the Cavalry (talk) 23:12, 12 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Hi,
You appear to be eligible to vote in the current Arbitration Committee election. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to enact binding solutions for disputes between editors, primarily related to serious behavioural issues that the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail. If you wish to participate, you are welcome to review the candidates' statements and submit your choices on the voting page.
