The article Smoke on the Water: A Tribute has been speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This was done because the article seemed to be about a person, group of people, band, club, company, or web content, but it did not indicate how or why the subject is notable, that is, why an article about that subject should be included in Wikipedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, articles that do not assert notability may be deleted at any time. If you can indicate why the subject is really notable, you are free to re-create the article, making sure to cite any verifiable sources.

Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable, and for specific types of articles, you may want to check out our criteria for biographies, for web sites, for musicians, or for companies. Feel free to leave a note on my talk page if you have any questions about this. NawlinWiki 03:35, 18 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Bachman

[edit]

Hey there! Thanks for your contribution to List of Stratocaster players. I don't know if you noticed, but we have a little collaboration going to get that article to featured list status. As such, we are trying to limit the list to a particular criteria - those whose made notable use of the Stratocaster and who have a source proving such. Your source for Bachman definitely indicates that he uses Strats a lot - but do you happen to have anything that indicates his use is notable? For example, has any journalist written about how his use of the Strat is notable? Thanks --Spike Wilbury talk 01:03, 9 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Disputed fair use rationale for Image:Bto gold albumcvr.jpg}

[edit]

Thank you for uploading Image:Bto gold albumcvr.jpg. However, there is a concern that the rationale provided for using this image under "fair use" may not meet the criteria required by Wikipedia:Non-free content. This can be corrected by going to the image description page and add or clarify the reason why the image qualifies for fair use. In particular, for each page the image is used on, the image must have an explanation linking to that page which explains why it needs to be used on that page. Can you please check:

  • That there is a non-free use rationale on the image's escription page for each article the image is used in.
  • That every article it is used on is linked to from its description page.

Please be aware that a fair use rationale is not the same as an image copyright tag; descriptions for images used under the fair use policy require both a copyright tag and a fair use rationale.

If it is determined that the image does not qualify under fair use, it might be deleted by adminstrator within a few days in accordance with our criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions, please ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thank you. NOTE: once you correct this, please remove the tag from the image's page. Orphaned non-free media (Image:Dimeola_lespaul2.jpg)

[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:Dimeola_lespaul2.jpg. The media description page currently specifies that it is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, it is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the media was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that media for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that all non-free media not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. Melesse (talk) 09:03, 27 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for uploading File:PBA 50 logo.jpg. You've indicated that the image is being used under a claim of fair use, but you have not provided an adequate explanation for why it meets Wikipedia's requirements for such images. In particular, for each page the image is used on, the image must have an explanation linking to that page which explains why it needs to be used on that page. Can you please check

  • That there is a non-free use rationale on the image's description page for each article the image is used in.
  • That every article it is used on is linked to from its description page.

Eventually, the bots are going to tell you that "Pba logo 08.jpg" is orphaned. I created an SVG version of the logo, and placed it in the Professional Bowlers Association article. Whenever we start working on an info box for PBA members, we can use the SVG logo as part of it. Let me know if you find any problems with the log. Thanks! groink 06:58, 9 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Sorry, didn't mean to template a regular. Saying that it's "likely" that all the other Python members agreed that Chapman was the best actor is pretty WP:OR; it'd be good to have some actual quotes, if it's worth mentioning. --McGeddon (talk) 20:16, 7 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Actually, that is a direct quote by both Michael Palin and Terry Jones from the Immaculate Edition DVD of The Life Of Brian, which is found under the "Special Features" section. These quotes are in the context of the discussion of who was to have the lead role of Brian in the film, Graham Chapman or John Cleese. While Cleese wanted the role, he later realized (and says so directly in the same feature) that he realized that Chapman was in fact a better actor and the choice of giving Chapman the lead role was the correct one. I'd like to request that you change the line under the photo of First UMC (which it seems you posted - I'd have done it myself if i could figure out how to AND 'wasn't worried about being any more offensive). First UMC's building was never 'formerly' First Presbyterian Church. Sorry. I work there and am well aquainted with the history of the current building as well as the former locations of First UM/(formerly known as) the Methodist Episcopal Church of Mount Clemens' congregational meeting places... really, 'sorry to be critical... Thank you for your contributions. Please remember to mark your edits as "minor" only if they truly are minor edits. In accordance with Help:Minor edit, a minor edit is one that the editor believes requires no review and could never be the subject of a dispute. Minor edits consist of things such as typographical corrections, formatting changes, or rearrangement of text without modification of content. Additionally, the reversion of clear-cut vandalism and test edits may be labeled "minor". Thank you. —KuyaBriBriTalk 21:35, 26 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]

The article Lt. Colonel Joan Burton has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

No indication of how this might meet notability guidelines. Unremarkable fictional character. Lacks citations to significant coverage in reliable sources.

While all contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{dated prod}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Removing {{dated prod}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. The speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. RadioFan (talk) 14:49, 5 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Wanted to explain WarGames revert

[edit]

Hi, I wanted to explain why I reverted your recent [http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=WarGames&diff=362851952&oldid=361937141 edit to the WarGames article. Plot descriptions should, like the rest of Wikipedia, be tightly written with nothing extraneous. My objections to your edits are:

  • ", over her protests": I don't view Mack's initial reluctance to get her grade changed as important; she asks for it to be done later regardless. What is important that Lightman is able to do such things and that she is involved; in other words, mentioning her is the hook to mentioning her again later.
  • "through library research": How Lightman learns about Falken's background is immaterial.
  • "submarines": Should be singular.
  • "Soviet...""which does prove to be nonexistent": No need to mention Soviet again since it's the only attack being discussed, and "nonexistent" alone is sufficient. Also, you removed a Harvard comma in the sentence for no reason. YLee (talk) 20:02, 18 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]

[edit]

Thank you for your contributions. Please remember to mark your edits, such as your recent edits to Star_Trek:_The_Original_Series, as "minor" only if they truly are minor edits. Thank you. While most of your recent edits appear to be well-intended, removing "an unprecedented" or changing "more than" to "tens of" probably does not fall into the category of edits that can be properly classed "minor". I took no action on the article itself but wanted to let you know this could cause trouble for you in other places. — UncleBubba T @ C ) 19:51, 15 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Minor edits

[edit]

I noticed on the Star Trek: The Original Series page you listed your edit as Minor (m) but it was a content change. I then viewed your recent edits and notice that most of your edits are labeled Minor. Checking a few of those (Burn Notice (season 5), Sean Rash, and Deep Purple to name a few) I noticed that many are clearly not minor as spelled out in wikipedia policy. I think that your edits are good, please do not misunderstand me, just that they should not be marked as Minor. I urge you to review the wikipedia policy on marking edits as minor so as not to confuse your fellow editors. Akuvar (talk) 04:25, 22 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Proposed deletion of Christopher Howe

[edit]

The article Christopher Howe has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

Wikipedia:Notability. Does not appear to have notable film career. Unable to find sufficient references to establish notability for his stage career.

While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. Level of detail in articles

[edit]

Hello, Howenstein. It's great you're making so many useful contributions to bowling-related articles. I just wanted to let you know that some of your edits include substantially more detail than is proper for Wikipedia articles. Articles should include information that would be of interest to readers years or decades into the future; see "enduring notability" in WP:NOTNEWS. For example, in your recent edits to the Danielle McEwan article, putting in scores of individual games and which bowler she beat is too much detail, and as a courtesy I'm letting you know I trimmed the content you added (as well as added an archive link to preserve the sourcing for posterity). Best wishes. —RCraig09 (talk) 16:27, 3 March 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Copying within Wikipedia requires attribution

[edit]

Information icon Thank you for your contributions to Wikipedia. It appears that you copied or moved text from Alice Cooper into Alice Cooper (band). While you are welcome to re-use Wikipedia's content, here or elsewhere, Wikipedia's licensing does require that you provide attribution to the original contributor(s). When copying within Wikipedia, this is supplied at minimum in an edit summary at the page into which you've copied content, disclosing the copying and linking to the copied page, e.g., copied content from [[page name]]; see that page's history for attribution. It is good practice, especially if copying is extensive, to also place a properly formatted {{copied}} template on the talk pages of the source and destination. The attribution has been provided for this situation, but if you have copied material between pages before, even if it was a long time ago, please provide attribution for that duplication. You can read more about the procedure and the reasons at Wikipedia:Copying within Wikipedia. Thank you. Storm Products moved to draftspace

[edit]

An article you recently created, Storm Products, does not have enough sources and citations as written to remain published. It needs more citations from reliable, independent sources. (?) Information that can't be referenced should be removed (verifiability is of central importance on Wikipedia). I've moved your draft to draftspace (with a prefix of "Draft:" before the article title) where you can incubate the article with minimal disruption. When you feel the article meets Wikipedia's general notability guideline and thus is ready for mainspace, please follow the prompts on the Articles for Creation template atop the page. ... discospinster talk 00:40, 21 November 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, Howenstein115. It has been over six months since you last edited the Articles for Creation submission or Draft page you started, "Storm Products".

In accordance with our policy that Wikipedia is not for the indefinite hosting of material deemed unsuitable for the encyclopedia mainspace, the draft has been nominated for deletion. If you plan on working on it further, or editing it to address the issues raised if it was declined, simply edit the submission and remove the {{db-afc}}, {{db-draft}}, or {{db-g13}} code.

If your submission has already been deleted by the time you get there, and you wish to retrieve it, you can request its undeletion by following the instructions at this link. An administrator will, in most cases, restore the submission so you can continue to work on it.

Invitation to participate in a research

[edit]

Hello,

The Wikimedia Foundation is conducting a survey of Wikipedians to better understand what draws administrators to contribute to Wikipedia, and what affects administrator retention. We will use this research to improve experiences for Wikipedians, and address common problems and needs. We have identified you as a good candidate for this research, and would greatly appreciate your participation in this anonymous survey.

You do not have to be an Administrator to participate.

The survey should take around 10-15 minutes to complete. You may read more about the study on its Meta page and view its privacy statement .

Please find our contact on the project Meta page if you have any questions or concerns.

Kind Regards,

WMF Research Team
