User talk:Fang 23
Welcome to Wikipedia!
[edit]I should have done this before but better late than never, right? welcome to Wikipedia! I hope you like it here and decide to stay.
Here are some tips:
- First, follow the Five Pillars of Wikipedia
- Take a look at the Simplified Ruleset.
- Read the Tutorial, How to edit a page, and the Manual of Style.
- Find out how to revert, move and merge pages.
- Learn what the proper tags to place on stubs (short articles) are.
- Learn how Articles for deletion works.
- Add yourself to the New user log and a regional notice board.
- Ask questions at the Village pump or Help desk.
- Use the Show preview button.
- Provide an Edit summary.
- Read the Picture tutorial for help with images and remember to add the correct image copyright tag to any images you upload.
- Check out the Community Portal.
- Create a User page.
- Be bold.http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Special:Contributions/70.238.56.25
- Ignore all rules.
- If you're ready for the complete list of Wikipedia documentation, there's also Wikipedia:Topical index.
If you feel a change is needed, feel free to make it yourself! Wikipedia is a wiki, so anyone (yourself included) can edit any article by following the Edit this page link. Wikipedia convention is to be bold and not be afraid of making mistakes. If you're not sure how editing works, have a look at How to edit a page, or try out the Sandbox to test your editing skills.
If, for some reason, you are unable to fix a problem yourself, feel free to ask someone else how to do it. Wikipedia has a vibrant community of contributors who have a wide range of skills and specialties, and many of them would be glad to help. Just click on this link and type {{helpme}} followed by your question. An experienced editor will be along shortly to answer your question 24/7. There are also the help pages for self-help and the village pump and IRC Channels where you are more than welcome to ask for assistance. You should also feel free to ask me on my Talk page.
I hope you enjoy editing here and being a Wikipedian! By the way, you can sign your name on Talk and vote pages using three tildes, like this: ~~~. Four tildes(~~~~) produces your name and the current date. Please do not add this signature to encyclopedia articles you may edit, however, even if you have created them. Wikipedia articles are owned by the community, not by any one person. Your contribution is credited on articles' history pages. Again, welcome!

vandal patrol
[edit]Thanks for helping out. If you could remember to subst your warnings it would be very helpful, e.g. {{subst:test}}. It means that the code gets place directly rather than being called from elsewhere.—WAvegetarian•(talk) 15:49, 21 February 2007 (UTC)
Administrators Against Vandalism
[edit]This is the place to go if you to wish to report someone as being a persistent vandal. All you have to do is add the IP address of the person that you are wanting to report in the following format:
If the IP address is 123.456.789, you would write {{IPVandal|123.456.789}} at the bottom of the list. This gives the admins links to their contributions, their talk page, and some other listings that deal with location. One thing to keep in mind though is that you should only report someone that vandalized after their final warning. If you have any questions, feel free to ask me on my talk page. Good luck! --Cyrus Andiron t/c 16:10, 21 February 2007 (UTC)
You said "athestists dont even belive in satin." However, I do know a few who believe in denim. :D Justin Eiler 23:21, 26 February 2007 (UTC)
- Personally I'm more inclined to believe in silk. But saytan is another matter. Do atheists believe in saytan with or without soy sauce? ;) --Shirahadasha 23:33, 26 February 2007 (UTC)

[edit]On a user's page, you changed my vandalism warning from a level 3 to a level 4 before adding your own level 4. It is not appropriate to do so... please next time simply add your level 4 warning after the level 3. 20:24, 2 March 2007 (UTC)

[edit]Hello. I leave you this message to prevent further disputes. I recently removed some fair use images from your user boxes. I'm afraid I cannot allow you to use copyrighted images, such as the Star Wars logo, on your user page, since this practice is forbidden in Wikipedia:Fair_use#Policy item #9. If you have any questions, please refer to the provided link for the Wikipedia policy, User:Durin's explanation of fair use image removal at User:Durin/Removal of fair use images, leave a message on my talk page, or ask other Wikipedians. db-repost
[edit]A tag has been placed on EvoWiki, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done because the article appears to be a repost of material that was previously deleted following a deletion debate, such as articles for deletion. If you can indicate how EvoWiki is different from the previously posted material, or if you can indicate why this article should not be deleted, I advise you to place the template {{hangon}} underneath the other template on the article, and also put a note on Talk:EvoWiki saying why this article should stay. An admin should check for such edits before deleting the article. Feel free to leave a note on my talk page if you have any questions about this. Please read our criteria for speedy deletion, particularly item 4 under General criteria. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself. We welcome your help in trying to improve Wikipedia, and we request you to follow these instructions. -wizzard2k (C•T•D) 14:52, 24 May 2007 (UTC)

[edit]Regards this edit, though there are definitely social aspects to the post, I think the strength post could be moved out of social aspects and back into description 'cause obviously strength isn't a social aspect. Whaddya think? WLU (talk) 15:47, 20 February 2008 (UTC)
- Here are the changes I made, do they look OK to you? One thing I'm concerned about because I don't have the background, is the "though may have possessed proto-language" because I just don't know if it is accurate - should it be 'may have' or 'definitely did not'? WLU (talk) 15:51, 20 February 2008 (UTC)
- Do you know the specific source where Mithen made the statement so we can source it? And could it actually be called proto-language or is it considered non-language? Also note, pre-language has a wikipage and can be linked, hurray! WLU (talk) 16:10, 20 February 2008 (UTC)
- I stole a source from evolution of language, #14 by Ruhlen. If Mithen also has made such statements it could be added for certain, but since Ruhlen had a book rather than a wikilink to justify a direct statement it is preferred. Of course, two sources is better than one. If you can find me an ISBN, pubmed or even just article name I'll track it down using Diberry or the Geo Ref Wikifier. WLU (talk) 16:17, 20 February 2008 (UTC)
- If you're not sure, I'd prefer the citation be left to the Ruhlen as that is a more certain source. WLU (talk) 16:36, 20 February 2008 (UTC)

Paleolithic references
[edit]Saw your comment on Phenylalanine's talk page about Paleolithic possibly getting to good article status. I did some copy editing and formatting on it—looked good generally, but you should pick a standard way of referencing and stick with it throughout. There are quite a few different styles used, and though it is not very important to the article's content, it is something that GA reviewers look for. Thought I might let you know so you can preempt the possibility of a reviewer telling you to be consistent. --Kakofonous (talk) 23:03, 6 March 2008 (UTC)

Thank you very much i am going to put this barnstar on my userpage!--Fang 23 (talk) 19:57, 22 March 2008 (UTC)
I think I see what you're trying to say, but please explain what you mean by "parity". The citations don't mean anything unless there is a specific assertion to cite, e.g. women spend much more time engaged in such-and-such activity than men spend in whatever other activity. If you can be more specific perhaps I can be more constructive in my next revision. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Losecontrol (talk • contribs) 02:18, 25 March 2008 (UTC)
I mean that the Gender relations of Hunter gatherers (especially simple Hunter-gathers that are grouped in Bands) such as the !Kung/San and the Mbuti are usually egalitarian or at the very least are more egalitarian than the gender relations of Agricultural tribes. The author of the source i cited a professor at Harvard university Thomas M Kifer said himself in these exact words "Gender relationships are often, though not invariably, egalitarian" in the paragraph of his article/lecture [1] that describes the Characteristics of Foraging Societies, since i don’t want to add the sourced information in his exact words (that would be copyright infringement which is illegal) I made a new original sentence that conveys the same information (by using different words such as parity in place of equal or "egalitarian").--Fang 23 (talk) 03:00, 25 March 2008 (UTC)
Thanks for your explanation. I understand what you're saying much better now, and I completely agree. I would recommend that you mention the comparison to agricultural societies as you did above. My apologies for not understanding your original meaning. LC | Talk 04:44, 25 March 2008 (UTC)
Prehistoric Hawaii
[edit]I'm assuming you intend to replace Ancient Hawaii with your subpage. You write, "due to a lack of written records from this time period, nearly all of our knowledge of prehistoric Hawaiian society comes from archeology." I'm curious where you get this strange idea, considering the rich oral history of the Hawaiians that has been passed on by people like David Malo, Samuel M. Kamakau, and John Papa I'i. —Viriditas | Talk 10:12, 29 March 2008 (UTC)
- Please keep up the good work. I think I see your point. For some reason, that particular statement still rubs me the wrong way. But what you say makes sense. It could probably be qualified in some way. It would be nice if you could join WP:HAWAII; then we could all be on the same page together. —Viriditas | Talk 14:42, 29 March 2008 (UTC)

howdy
[edit]sorry to pop up out of the blue like this, but i was wondering if i could just ask you a favor - the article on Naomi Klein is pretty regularly besieged by pov editors attempting to violate WP:undue by focusing disproportionately on the minority of criticisms of her recent book while failing to acknowledge the overwhelming majority of praise. whatever one's personal feelings on the book, it's pretty inarguable that it was well reviewed by most people, which wikipedia should naturally reflect. sorry to ask you, but i've been dealing with the same people for months, and it gets pretty boring reverting the same silliness over and over. i got into a thing like this over on the ralph nader page a few months ago with a user who was later found to be a sock puppet and blocked. if you could just keep an eye on it from time to time, it would be much appreciated. i'll be posting this message on a few other user pages just in case you've got your plate full or just plum don't wanna do it. thanks Marshmellowgoggles (talk) 13:17, 6 June 2008 (UTC)

Palaeos.org
[edit]I am the person who performed most of the the Palaeos.org wiki and Evo Wiki vandalism. The original WP pagemove vandal had nothing to do with it, I was just copying his style. You appear to be eligible to vote in the current Arbitration Committee election. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to enact binding solutions for disputes between editors, primarily related to serious behavioural issues that the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail. If you wish to participate, you are welcome to review the candidates' statements and submit your choices on the voting page.
