Regarding the article in afd. Sirs, Though not familiar with the technical aspects yet we will try to provide references soon. We will try to reduce the length of the article as well. The article Pandiya Kula Kshatriya Mara Nadar is based on the beliefs and culture of Kshatriya Nadar community a Native Dravidian community of Southern India.We have repeatedly told the Various researchers about our position in the past 200 yrs. Many of the 10 million Nadars of India believe that they descended from the old dynasty of the Pandiyan kingdom which founded the civilization in the Southern India and South asian countries in the prehistory. Many facts in the article are based on well researched books and many other facts has been common knowledge in Southern India. The article is based on the viewpoint of some of the Native Dravidians.Nadars have a liberal attitude towards Religeon. While most of them are Hindus,about 30 percent of them are Christians (who freely marry among HIndus). This often makes them target of Hindu fundamentalists. Most of the Dravidian History has been written by Non Dravidan- Aryans.Though many native Dravidians find some of the notions put forward by these authors are incorrect there has been no way to counter them. This article and many other articles which have themes describing Dravidian culture, history and language have been contested by Non Dravidians especially southern Indian Brahmins who while extolling the virtues of their own Aryan culture refuse to admit that advanced civilizations existed in India long before the Aryan arrival.(many critiques of this article also belong to the same group,many of them move as a pack). One pro Aryan user of Wikipedia, User:Sarvagnya probably a Brahmin from Karnataka who criticised this article as Patent Nonsense has been having the habit of criticising and Vandalizing other articles pertaining to the Dravidian culture language etc too. How can they keep blatantly Brhamanistic user names ? like Sarvagnya . In one place in his talk page he denies the very existence of Dravidians as a separate entity reflecting the views of fundamentalistic historians of recent times. He ridicules the form of Tamil a native Dravidian tongue talked at Madras in a demeaning way. ( Madras Tamil ).Bharathanatyam is a native Dravidian artform invented by the humble Dravidian agricultural community of Tamil Nadu and was a temple art form. The article in Wikipedia about Bharata Natyam safely ignores the Dravidian contributions while supporting unattributable claims that it was invented by a North Indian sage who was never present in the south. These Pro Aryan and Pro Brahmanistic and Pro Hindutva fundamentalistic users while exaggerating the roles of Aryan culture and Sanskrit they want to neglect the Dravidian culture to deny the due place deserved by it.The user User:Bakasuprman also falls within the same category of Pro-Aryan(Indo)activists who fails to see that India is a multiethnic country. If a few determined Brahmin users deliberately attacking and sabotaging the Dravidian articles there is no way to counter it too. We request that the Users: User:Sarvagnya and User:Bakasuprman are reprimanded and censured. Dravidians are Hindus by birth though they are not fundamentalists in any way.Dravidians have every right to preserve our heritage and be Nationalists as well as we predate the Aryan arrival by many thousand years. Dravidian culture could have been an offshoot of Proto Saharan and Kushite culture of Egypt and among the first to found civilizations in the Mesopotomia,Egypt and Indus Valley. We Dravidians need time and resources to put our history in order.We want to preserve the legends and folklore too which may otherwise soon disappear.If an article like this( Pandiya Kula Kshatriya Mara Nadar ) remains in the Wikipedia for an adequate time many other users may contribute many more facts and references eventually making the article very useful and usable. Being an avid reader and a fan of National Geographic I have the strong opinion that all the native cultures and the various tribes of world should be allowed to tell their own story without interference and harassment by the present dominant cultures in their respective areas. While appreciating the service rendered by Wikipedia to humanity we request that Wikipedia insists on each user to submit an ethnic profile containing all the personal details regarding the user including community,caste,state and interests. This will help the authorities to spot the trouble makers immediately.Preferably while selecting the administrators a background analysis should be done before they are appointed.—The preceding unsigned comment was added by Nadarhistory (talkcontribs) 02:17, 20 March 2007 (UTC).[reply]

Columns

{{helpme}}

I want to know how to place text in columns (which would be very helpful for particularly long lists within articles) without using a table. I saw it done once before in an article, but I can't remember which one. Template:reflist uses columnms (and variable columns no less), but in viewing the source, it didn't reveal (or I could decipher) exactly how it was done. Please help!--Esprit15d (talk ¤ contribs) 17:13, 11 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Like this:
{{Col-begin}}
{{Col-1-of-3}}
Column 1 here
{{Col-2-of-3}}
Column 2 here
{{Col-3-of-3}}
Column 3 here
{{Col-end}}
If you want a different number of columns, you can adapt the x-of-y names in the obvious manner. Hope that helps! --ais523 17:21, 11 January 2007 (UTC)

Re: ABBA clips

No problem. I was uploading several clips to add to the article, and when I was 'upping' "DQ" and "Knowing Me You", I saw there were files of them already. Just added the file and summary, etc. etc.

I guess we are respecting the fair use. If you see anything wrong, let me know.

Image:Thom filicia.jpg

Thanks for uploading Image:Thom filicia.jpg. I notice the 'image' page specifies that the image is being used under fair use, but its use in Wikipedia articles fails our first fair use criterion in that it illustrates a subject for which a freely licensed image could reasonably be found or created that provides substantially the same information. If you believe this image is not replaceable, please:

  1. Go to the image description page and edit it to add {{Replaceable fair use disputed}}, without deleting the original Replaceable fair use template.
  2. On the image discussion page, write the reason why this image is not replaceable at all.

Alternatively, you can also choose to replace the fair use image by finding a freely licensed image of its subject, requesting that the copyright holder release this (or a similar) image under a free license, or by taking a picture of it yourself.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified how these images fully satisfy our fair use criteria. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on this link. Note that any fair use images which are replaceable by free-licensed alternatives will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. ShadowHalo 05:12, 28 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hi there! Sorry I didn't get back to you sooner, or check up "often" like I said I would. I'm sure you've done a great job, thanks for keeping the comments in perspective. I've already checked back and listed the article as GA. Nice work! I just commented out the last sentence in the paragraph about his interest in design though. It sounded a bit POV-ish to me, and the paragraph is able to stand just as well without it. NicolaM 03:20, 3 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Userwarning headers

You added parser functions that include a header parameter to Template:Test1article [1], and far as I see to several other userwarning templates. However, these code fragments are breaking the section editing (apparently it causes the edit buttons to get confused about their section numbers). See [2], [3] for examples of pages where it happened. Could you please do what's necessary to sort this out? Femto 17:02, 27 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

About headers in user warning templates

Hi! Esprit15d, I noticed that you've added optional header text to the {{uw-create}} text. Consensus seems to be against those, so please don't add them (and then re-add them with what I thought was a somewhat misleading edit summary). You're more than free to create templates in your own userspace, but please don't do them to the actual templates. (By the way, if you'd like to weigh in your opinion, check out WT:UTM#Create templates, or WP:VPR#Parameters for user warning templates. Thanks, and free to drop me a note if you have any questions. Category:Wikipedians who listen to John Mayer

{{helpme}}

I just added the userbox option to Category:Wikipedians who listen to John Mayer, and for the life of me, and can't get the userbox centered in the table, and I believe it is because the userbox is made using a <div> tag. Does anyone know how to format it to center in the table?--Esprit15d (talk ¤ contribs) 14:14, 12 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

It's because the div that made the userbox was floated to the left, which overrides a central alignment. I've sorted it for you by making a tiny table to go around the div, so the userbox is left-aligned within the tiny table (doesn't matter, because the table is only just big enough to fit the userbox anyway) and the tiny table is centred within the main table. Hope that helps! --ais523 14:18, 12 March 2007 (UTC)

An article that you created, Editing Category:Wikipedians who listen to Nelly Furtado, has been proposed for deletion, for the following reason:

Misnamed page. Correctly-named category (Category:Wikipedians who listen to Nelly Furtado) doesn't have any pages in it, so if this page was moved there it would be deleted anyway (CSD C1)

Move to Wikibooks?

I'm confused as to why you tagged Comparison of PlayStation game consoles with an import to Wikibooks tag. Even if it doesn't belong on Wikipedia (whole seperate issue), how is Wikibooks the proper place to send this? — BrotherFlounder 20:10, 20 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Ok, I see that now. However, most of the video game articles have similar charts that used to be seperate articles, IIRC. There are also similar articles using a different format. I don't think it needs to go anywhere quite yet. I'd be interested in getting other opinions on this though. — BrotherFlounder 20:26, 20 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hi!,

I just realised that you review the articles for GA status, regarding music topics, and am wondering what you think of the article concerned. I hope to bring it up to GA status and go from there :-).

If there are any problems, could you if possible please list them?.

Cheers!

John Mayer Coercion

"john was "coerced" to do anything" On the contrary, one of the sources that the page derives much of its information, an article and interview with Clay Cook, indicates that Mayer was hesitant, but through Cook's coercion, Mayer buckled and moved. Mayer himself wanted to more to New York, apparently, so he did when he released Inside Wants Out hence him writing "City Love" shortly after. --lincalinca 15:29, 16 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Reworded

Ok, yeah you're right, I used the wrong wording before, but felt the need to include that info. Anyway, I've updated how it's worded in a way I hope you prefer and consider more suitable for encyclopedic content. oh yeah, and Mayer said that he wrote City Love after moving to NY and, as the line in the song suggests, he saw it as unbreachable and a large obstacle. He didn't like it, and so wanted to move there to defeat it, so to speak. So he did want to move there, but just never had the chance. Mayer now co-resides between NY and LA, and is based in LA to be closer to Columbia records, since that is where his contacts with them are. Atlanta is oen of the central operational places for Aware Records, so NY had no bearing on either. That was a move for preference. --lincalinca 01:06, 18 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

your image of book on the Appalachian Trail entry

It's really not needed, and as a work of fiction, not relevent. I'd hate to see the article cluttered up with the images of the various trail guides and every book about hiking the AT ever written. If you do not object, I'll remove it. Thanks, TJ aka Teej 22:02, 23 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hi... I noted that you speedied this article and then reconsidered: did you find evidence this actor actually exists? I can't find any, and I can't find any reference to his appearance in Snakes on a Plane, so I've removed the reference to him in the article. If you know better, consider reverting my edit and weighing in at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/James Hibbert. Cheers. --Rrburke(talk) 21:31, 27 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Fair use rationale for Image:Dolly_Parton_-_Me_and_Bobby_McGee.ogg

Thanks for uploading Image:Dolly_Parton_-_Me_and_Bobby_McGee.ogg. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in Wikipedia articles constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any fair use images uploaded after 4 May, 2006, and lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. ShakespeareFan00 09:36, 12 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I've had a glance at your edits and they all seem fine to me, however the colours in use and general design that was in place before was one that was come to as an agreement (well, more of a forced compromise) when some people were arguing that it looked a bit childish. The colours used before were selected because they had an affinity with Mayer's own fondness for Green, which was canned in favour of what was mentioned in the aticle as his favourite colour, being blue. The actual design you've used is quite fine by my liking, but I can almost guarantee you'll be fought by the people who fought me last time. One thing I don't like is the font used for "category" and "discography" in that it's a little tough to read. At a glance, it looks like a smallfont, even though you've got it as a Helvetica blacktype variation. Overall, I like it but can foresee much competition from others (unfortunately, it was from admins who I had trouble last time, being why I lost the argument). To see what I'm talking about, this is pretty much how it was when I created the page (that's the green I'm talking about) and this is how they wanted it, and this is the compromise we settled on. I'm pretty much sure I lost the fight and sadly, I lost it because they didn't like the way it looked. They made the point that external links didn't belong there, which I still disagree with, but gave in since they fought on everything else, I figured it just wasn't worth it. --lincalinca 03:35, 22 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

GAC backlog elimination drive

This form message is being sent to you either due to your membership with WikiProject Good Articles and/or your inclusion on the Wikipedia:Good article candidates/List of reviewers. A new drive has been started requesting that all members review at least one article (or more, if you wish!) within the next two weeks at GAC to help in removing the large backlog. This message is being sent to all members, and even members who have been recently reviewing articles. There are almost 130 members in this project and about 180 articles that currently need to be reviewed. If each member helps to review just one or two articles, the majority of the backlog will be cleared. Since the potential amount of reviewers may significantly increase, please make sure to add :{{GAReview}} underneath the article you are reviewing to ensure that only one person is reviewing each article. Additionally, the GA criteria may have been modified since your last review, so look over the criteria again to help you to determine if a candidate is GA-worthy. If you have any questions about this drive or the review process, leave a message on the GAC talk page. --Nehrams2020 00:51, 25 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Failed GA nomination for André Navarra

Thanks very much for your critique of André Navarra. I'm really quite new to the whole GA process, so I nominated some of my articles (Felix Salmond and Isidore Cohen in addition to this one) primarily for feedback purposes; I didn't really expect them to pass the nomination. I'll try to improve Navarra as per the suggestions you've given. In the future would it be possible to post on your talk page for you to take a look at it, and avoid clogging up the GA review before the article's ready? I really appreciated the comments. All contributions are appreciated, but the article may not satisfy Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and the deletion notice explains why (see also "What Wikipedia is not" and Wikipedia's deletion policy). You may contest the proposed deletion by removing the {{dated prod}} notice, but please explain why you disagree with the proposed deletion in your edit summary or on its talk page. Also, please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Even though removing the deletion notice will prevent deletion through the proposed deletion process, the article may still be deleted if it matches any of the speedy deletion criteria or it can be sent to Articles for Deletion, where it may be deleted if consensus to delete is reached. Actually, I'm kind of confused. I don't think this should be prod'd -- I think we're just missing the parent article. --Haemo 06:14, 22 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

FA Nom

Just an FYI -- It's usually not a good idea to mark off other people's comments in an FA review. Instead, put a comment under the remarks that you fixed that say "Done," or something like that. It doesn't bother me that much, but there are other FA reviewers who get really upset (I've gotten scolded before for the same thing). Karanacs 13:20, 22 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for fixing refs/Evan Almighty

I appreciate you going in and fixing the references. I'm fairly new at this and wasn't sure how to do it, but I should be able to follow your example in the future. Much appreciated. Bob98133 18:33, 22 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Non-free use disputed for Image:Under_Black_Pool_Lights.jpg

Warning sign This file may be deleted.

Thanks for uploading Image:Under_Black_Pool_Lights.jpg. However, there is a concern that the rationale you have provided for using this image under "fair use" may be invalid. Please read carefully the instructions at Wikipedia:Non-free content and then go to the image description page and clarify why you think the image qualifies. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If it is determined that the image does not qualify under fair use, it will be deleted within a couple of days according to our Criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. ShakespeareFan00 21:57, 22 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Category: SF Fans

There has been a call for discussion for the deletion of the Science Fiction fans category. Shsilver 15:52, 24 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I officially changed my vote to support. You did a great job with the recent changes, and I appreciate you being so quick about it and not getting aggravated with my pickiness. I really like the article now, and I wish you the best of luck in getting the rest of the votes for FA status. Karanacs 20:39, 25 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Unspecified source for Image:Emy_Coligado.jpg

Thanks for uploading Image:Emy_Coligado.jpg. I noticed that the file's description page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you did not create this file yourself, then you will need to specify the owner of the copyright. If you obtained it from a website, then a link to the website from which it was taken, together with a restatement of that website's terms of use of its content, is usually sufficient information. However, if the copyright holder is different from the website's publisher, then their copyright should also be acknowledged.

As well as adding the source, please add a proper copyright licensing tag if the file doesn't have one already. If you created/took the picture, audio, or video then the {{GFDL-self}} tag can be used to release it under the GFDL. If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Fair use, use a tag such as {{non-free fair use in|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair use. See Wikipedia:Image copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have specified their source and tagged them, too. You can find a list of files you have uploaded by following this link. Unsourced and untagged images may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If the image is copyrighted under a non-free license (per Wikipedia:Fair use) then the image will be deleted 48 hours after 12:37, 26 June 2007 (UTC). If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. bluemask (talk) 12:37, 26 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

FAC archives

Not sure what you're doing with Wikipedia:Featured article candidates/Archived nominations, but please make sure it doesn't mess up GimmeBot. Did you check with Gimmetrow (talk · contribs)—I know he had to set up something special there to make sure the bot works? SandyGeorgia (Talk) 16:08, 26 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

GA review of Songs for the Deaf

Hi -- you've had Songs for the Deaf under GA review for twelve days now; could you go ahead and fail or pass the article, or remove the hold so another reviewer can look at it? Thanks. Mike Christie (talk) 10:27, 27 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Orphaned non-free image (Image:Emy Coligado.jpg)

Thanks for uploading Image:Emy Coligado.jpg. The image description page currently specifies that the image is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free images not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. BetacommandBot 08:46, 29 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]
