"Last" is used for three or more things. "Latter" is used for two things.
I agree. The three things are "arson, manslaughter, and six counts of first-degree murder".
Thanks.

Rami Malek
[edit]Hello:
The copy edit you requested from the Guild of Copy Editors of the article Rami Malek has been completed.
Please let me know if you have any questions or concerns.
I certainly think the article is at the stage where it can be nominated, and would achieve, Good Article status.
Over the long term I have a couple of suggestions. I did not check, but I suspect that a number of statements are supported by two or three citations. This is overkill - one reputable/renowned source will do, as I'm sure you know. Not surprisingly with so many contributors the citation style is inconsistent and should also be looked at. Neither of these should prevent the article from achieving Good Article status. I like the fact it has not fallen prey to the tendency to include laundry lists of reviews, quotes etc... It is nice and succinct, covering the salient points,
Best of luck with the GA nomination when you get to it.
Regards,
Twofingered Typist
- @Twofingered Typist: Thank you so much for your feedback and help. I'll take a look at your suggestions. If I have any questions, I'll let you know. Thanks again.--Esprit15d • talk • contribs 17:27, 15 January 2019 (UTC)
Esprit15d: I saw your note to contributors to the Malek article. What I meant about the citations is to make sure the fields are in the correct order for the type of citation being used. For example the template cite web has the following in the order specified: For references with author credit
The cite web citation includes in this orderf: |url= |title= |last= |first= |date= |website= |publisher= |access-date= |quote=
For references without author credit
The cite web citation includes in this order |url= |title= |author= |date= |website= |publisher= |access-date= |quote=}}
The date of the article, and the date the article was accessed by the person using it as a citation will be different. An access-date must be included, but it will not match the article date.
This article Wikipedia:Citing sources (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Citing_sources} has links to each of the types of citation and their format. I hope this clarifies what I meant, Sorry for the confusion. Twofingered Typist (talk) 20:37, 15 January 2019 (UTC)

Question
[edit]Hello! I am interested in an edit you made to the page
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Josh_Tyrangiel
In which you wrote (and more recently reinstated) a "list of notable interviews"
Question: where is this information from?
Any help much appreciated. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Iaojiocoijcoij (talk • contribs) 03:05, 4 February 2019 (UTC)
- @Iaojiocoijcoij:: At a glance, it appears that some of them already have references and some were cover articles (presumably from when he was at Time). I can't say for sure where that information was originally sourced from, but I can assist you in finding references. I'm working on another project at the moment, but when I get a chance, I'll drop in.--Esprit15d • talk • contribs 03:11, 4 February 2019 (UTC)

Georgia Tann article
[edit]I was looking at the Georgia Tann article, and noticed what looks like an error in the "Notable cases" section you added: https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Georgia_Tann&diff=888117071&oldid=888045697
Based on the dates listed the babies in question would have been born ~ 1955, or 5 years after Georgia Tann's death. You've added a paper magazine as a reference here, so I can't check where the error originates. If you've still got access to that magazine, could you double check whether the numbers are correct? Or whether it is printing an interview that was conducted years earlier, maybe? --James (talk) 07:40, 1 May 2019 (UTC)
- @James:I didn't do the math when I added the statement, but you are correct, their birth would have been 5 years after she died. But, I reviewed the article again (you can see an abstract here: http://www.readabstracts(DOT)com/Family-and-marriage/Happy-families-As-young-as-they-feel-age-is-a-state-of-mind.html - replace "DOT" ) and it did say that her twins were born 37 years previously. So, clearly she's mistaken, and the article didn't fact check. I will just remove the statement from the article.--Esprit15d • talk • contribs 12:26, 1 May 2019 (UTC)

Barnett article
[edit]When I added the advertisement tag, I did nmot mean particularly advertising for the subject's firm, but for the causes they advocate for & the people they defend. No matter how highly I think of the merits, it still isn't right for an encyclopedia . DGG ( talk ) 02:14, 14 May 2019 (UTC)
- @DGG:I admit a was a bit surprised to see that tag added. I am all for collaboration, so I read through the article again more critically, but I'm not really seeing any language that would justify a tag at the top of the article. I'm curious to know if you can give specific examples of as advocacy for the cause, promotional external links, or NPOV language. I'm open to discussion, but I'm not seeing a justification for the use of that tag. --Esprit15d • talk • contribs 02:25, 14 May 2019 (UTC)

- I've looked at it again. Problems include: the material and references discussing Kardashian West's sponsorship of her organization, which seems peripherial and disproportate in length. Then, there is some ambiguity in the number of people she for whom she helped get clemency for. It claims 17, which is probably the number for her organization as a whole. It only mentions two , and I assume these are ones for whome she was either the principal attorney, or one of the principal attorneys--it is't clear which. More basic, and what caught my eye, is section 3, discussing in some detail two of the cases, If we have articles on the cases, the material would belong there; I do not think we do, so probably a single sentence each might be appropriate. (they are also mentioned earlier, and I think that's the appropriate content) The inclusion of the comments of the judges is advocacy for the cause. The inclusion of herself praising her own work, complete with full caps, is puffery.
- We'll keep chipping away at it.--Esprit15d • talk • contribs 12:10, 14 May 2019 (UTC)
- I agree we need a better tag to avoid confusion. I ought to write one. But I will also look again at the article. DGG ( talk ) 06:17, 14 May 2019 (UTC)
- there are similar problems with some of the cases for Kathleen Zellner. How to balance articles on lawyers like this is a problem, that has not been solved. How to deal with tneed to advocate here for things one wants to advocate for is a recurrent problem. I personally tend to be rather cold-blooded, because I'm concerned with setting an example to be used by promotional editors writing articles for attorneys. But I can understand a view that one should get in as much information as one can without being too conspicuous about it. I would support full articles on the individuals in wrongful conviction cases whenever possible. DGG ( talk ) 17:08, 14 May 2019 (UTC)
- @DGG:I by no means think the article is complete or perfect. But, I'll address your specific issues individually:
the material and references discussing Kardashian West's sponsorship of her organization, which seems peripherial and disproportate in length
The references about Kim Kardashian's relation to the issue aren't really "references." They are substantiating the assertion in the article that the issue was widely reported on, which they undoubtedly were. The coverage of her involvement is not disproportionate either. Kardashian is the primary (if not sole) funder the effort and is essentially the "celebrity face" of Barnett, which Kardashian openly admits. As there is no question that Kardashian's personal meetings with Jared Kushner, Ivanka Trump, and other members of Trump's cabinet, as well as a meeting with the president himself (that he personally insisted be covered by the White House press staff as well outside reporters) is notable. True, whenever Kim Kardashian shows up (not to even mention Trump himself) the tone is a bit salacious because of their public images. But that is not relevant to the fact that it was a notable event and relevant to Barnett's efforts, since that meeting directly led to Trump continuing Obama's policy of clemency for nonviolent drug offenses (which I doubt he would have done otherwise), as well as the the introduction of the First Step Act into law. It claims 17, which is probably the number for her organization as a whole. It only mentions two , and I assume these are ones for whome she was either the principal attorney, or one of the principal attorneys--it is't clear which.
Barnett is the only attorney in her "organization," although she is a professor at her alma mater and enlists the help of the law students to do some of her research. The number 17 is the the prisoners that been released in the last three months--not total--and the article mentions that she worked with another attorney names MiAngel during the campaign. That is absolutely verifiable. I could actually include citations of docket cases in the article, but it would go against Wikipedia's policy WP:PRIMARY. Not all of the cases notable, and so not all of them are discussed here. I've only included cases that had wide media coverage.- In response to this:
More basic, and what caught my eye, is section 3, discussing in some detail two of the cases. If we have articles on the cases, the material would belong there; I do not think we do, so probably a single sentence each might be appropriate.
, while I respect your opinion, it doesn't reflect [Wikipedia policy or precedent: there is EXTENSIVE precedent in Wikipedia for law offices, lawyers, and judges articles to include notable cases. Barnet has litigated MANY cases, not only in advocacy, but in the financial world. However, most of them are not notable and should not be included in wikipedia. The ones included, however, are notable, because they received widespread coverage in the media. This is the equivalent of a singer articles including coverage his/her discography, or a senator's article including coverage of principle legislation that she/he authored. Covering summaries of notable cases of a lawyer is the same. For examples of other comparable articles that have FA or GA standing, see the following: Jack Thompson (activist), Sonia Sotomayor, F. Lee Bailey, Antonin Scalia, Henry W. Sawyer, Kenesaw Mountain Landis, Learned Hand, Tom Denning, Baron Denning, Richard Goldstone, Patrick Hastings, Adrian S. Fisher, Ted Frank, Clifford Scott Green. I'll also include my comments on the talk page of the article.--Esprit15d • talk • contribs 14:56, 15 May 2019 (UTC)

The file File:Ocean's 12 soundtrack.jpg has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:
Non-free album cover being used in a decorative manner in Ocean's Twelve#Soundtrack. Non-free album cover art is generally allowed to be used for primary identification purposes in stand-alone articles about albums, but its use in other articles is generally only allowed when the cover art itself is the subject of sourced critical commentary as explained in WP:NFC#cite_note-3 and the context for non-free use required by WP:NFCC#8 is evident. There is no such commentary for this particular album cover anywhere in the article, and the use of soundtrack album cover art in articles about films or TV programs is generally not allowed for this reason as explained in WP:FILMSCORE.

- Please consider yourself off this review effective immediately. I will be finding a new reviewer. AWB editing
[edit]Hallo, please check that AWB is actually proposing sensible edits. In this edit, as well as usefully fixing a couple of slanted apostrophes, and adding birth and death date cats, you managed to add some stray commas before references. The next editor then reverted the whole lot. I've rescued what was OK of your edit, but please slow down and check. Thanks. PamD 14:48, 25 August 2020 (UTC)
- @PamD:I think what happened is the original editor puts commas between references if there is more than one for some reason. AWB moved the comma before the reference, but there was also a period there. Anyway, if I see that again, I'll catch it.--Esprit15d • talk • contribs 16:14, 25 August 2020 (UTC)
- Hmm, that's not very clever of AWB! I've already dropped a note to the other editor to point out that refs aren't separated by either spaces or commas: couldn't find anything in MOS to say so but showed him the example of today's Featured Article as an example of how to do it. PamD 16:43, 25 August 2020 (UTC)
- @PamD:Thanks for the heads up. I'll keep an eye out if I come across double punctuation again.--Esprit15d • talk • contribs 16:44, 25 August 2020 (UTC)

AWB and Short Description
[edit]Hi - I see you just edited Krupp using AWB just after I edited it. Unfortunately the current released binary moves hatnotes above short description, in violation of MOS:ORDER. The AWB guys fixed the bug soon after releasing 6.1.0.1, nearly a year ago, and I've been trying to get their attention for a new binary. Other people have been fixing the bug with two double-clicks. I have a binary built from the latest source if you're interested. David Brooks (talk) 17:07, 27 August 2020 (UTC)

- Sorry, I didn't mean that to sound like an accusation! Thanks for responding. And I said two double-clicks because, unfortunately, AWB diff sees the change as separate delete insert (not move) so you have to undo both changes. David Brooks (talk) 18:15, 27 August 2020 (UTC)

- FYI for anyone reading this--this wasn't my article. I was trying to determine if an article that was in drafts related to the Biden presidency with a soft redirect had to be used, or if we could start over from scratch. We ultimately started over from scratch because the draft version was in poor condition.--Esprit15d • talk • contribs 17:01, 8 November 2020 (UTC)

Erick Williams moved to draftspace
[edit]An article you recently created, Erick Williams, is too highly promotional as written to remain published. It needs to not resemble a web page or advertisement for the chef or his restaurant. Probably removing the quotations would be a good first step, but it would need considerable rewriting. I would have listed it for deletion except that it ddes have decent references. (and remove the see also's to better-known chefs--that's namedropping) I've moved your draft to draftspace (with a prefix of "Draft:
" before the article title) where you can incubate the article with minimal disruption. When you feel the is ready for mainspace, please click on the "Submit your draft for review!" button at the top of the page. DGG ( talk ) 06:32, 11 November 2020 (UTC)
- @DGG:While I respect your opinion, I am not a fan of this chef, nor do I have any particular interest in him beyond the fact that he is repeatedly coming up in my online and radio journey, and he merits an article. I have been adding information to his article as I've perused sources and listened to interviews, which I am still in the process of doing. Also, those chefs are not namedropping whatsoever, they are all chefs in the Chicago gastronomic community, especially that make ethnocentric cuisine. You may not realize he is that same caliber chef as they are, and was the executive chef at MK for years.--Esprit15d • talk • contribs 11:59, 11 November 2020 (UTC)
- I'm glad you have no COI, but it is customary to ask.
- listing better known people as see also (or in the article) without a very direct connection with the subject, not just " chefs in ... Chicago" is unambiguously name dropping. You seem to have made it much worse. It needs to be half the length, not double He probably deserves an article, so why not write something that doesnt sound like PR? DGG ( talk ) 17:32, 11 November 2020 (UTC)
- @DGG:I'm sincerely at a loss at what about it sounds like PR, especially since writing about him feels like another day at the office. I just re-read the policy on NPOV to see if there was something I was missing: my sources are unbiased, I don't make any subjective assertions about him (e.g "he's an outstanding chef"), I've included "verifiable public and scholarly critiques", couldn't find any weasel words. I also didn't see any undue weight on any particular topic, although I'd welcome specific feedback if someone disagreed with that. I deleted the See Also section (shrug). To be honest, I don't really "write" articles ever, especially in this case since my knowledge of him is limited. I'm just building it based on sources I have access to: Newspaper.com, Ebscohost, Gale, Google (obviously) through my Wikipedia library account. I am making my way through the sources about him, and if there is something that seems biographic in it, I add it to the article with a reference. Many of the articles I skip because it's just him talking with another chef or interviewer about Chicago, or Brionna Taylor, or his grandma. So asking me to not write PR, from my perspective, seems like, don't add what you see in the sources. Because I completely ambivalent about this topic. If you gave more specific feedback I could review it for what your'e referring to.--Esprit15d • talk • contribs 18:39, 11 November 2020 (UTC)

- Just mentioning, it's not that it's PR, but that it reads like PR. It can be very hard to avoid, since almost all the writing in the sources is PR. DGG ( talk ) 18:57, 11 November 2020 (UTC)

Invitation to join New pages patrol
[edit]Hello Esprit15d!
- The New Pages Patrol is currently struggling to keep up with the influx of new articles needing review. We could use a few extra hands to help.
- We think that someone with your activity and experience is very likely to meet the guidelines for granting.
- Reviewing/patrolling a page doesn't take much time, but it requires a strong understanding of Wikipedia’s CSD policy and notability guidelines.
- Kindly read the tutorial before making your decision, and feel free to post on the project talk page with questions.
- If patrolling new pages is something you'd be willing to help out with, please consider applying here.
Thank you for your consideration. We hope to see you around!

New page reviewer granted
[edit]Hi Esprit15d. Your account has been added to the "New page reviewers
" user group. Please check back at the permissions page in case your user right is time-limited or probationary. This user group allows you to review new pages through the Curation system and mark them as patrolled, tag them for maintenance issues, or nominate them for deletion. The list of articles awaiting review is located at the New Pages Feed. New page reviewing is vital to maintaining the integrity of the encyclopedia. If you have not already done so, you must read the tutorial at New Pages Review, the linked guides and essays, and fully understand the deletion policy. If you need any help or want to discuss the process, you are welcome to use the new page reviewer talk page or ask via the NPP Discord. In addition, please remember:
- Be nice to new editors. They are usually not aware that they are doing anything wrong. Do make use of the message feature when tagging pages for maintenance so that they are aware.
- You will frequently be asked by users to explain why their page is being deleted. Please be formal and polite in your approach to them – even if they are not.
- If you are not sure what to do with a page, don't review it – just leave it for another reviewer.
- Accuracy is more important than speed. Take your time to patrol each page, including checking for copyright violations using Earwig's copyright violation detector, checking for duplicate articles, and evaluating sources (both in the article, and if needed, via a Google search) for compliance with the general notability guideline.
- Please review some of our flowcharts (1, 2) to help ensure you don't forget any steps.
- Use the message feature to communicate with article creators and offer advice as much as possible.
The reviewer right does not change your status or how you can edit articles. If you no longer want this user right, you also may ask any administrator to remove it for you at any time. In cases of abuse or persistent inaccuracy of reviewing, or long-term inactivity, the right may be withdrawn at administrator discretion. If you can read any languages other than English, please add yourself to the list of new page reviewers with language proficiencies. Hey man im josh (talk) 14:36, 26 February 2024 (UTC)

New Pages Patrol newsletter April 2024
[edit]Hello Esprit15d,
Backlog update: The October drive reduced the article backlog from 11,626 to 7,609 and the redirect backlog from 16,985 to 6,431! Congratulations to Schminnte, who led with over 2,300 points.
Following that, New Page Patrol organized another backlog drive for articles in January 2024. The January drive started with 13,650 articles and reduced the backlog to 7,430 articles. Congratulations to JTtheOG, who achieved first place with 1,340 points in this drive.
Looking at the graph, it seems like backlog drives are one of the only things keeping the backlog under control. Another backlog drive is being planned for May. Feel free to participate in the May backlog drive planning discussion.
It's worth noting that both queues are gradually increasing again and are nearing 14,034 articles and 22,540 redirects. We encourage you to keep contributing, even if it's just a single patrol per day. Your support is greatly appreciated!
2023 Awards
Onel5969 won the 2023 cup with 17,761 article reviews last year - that's an average of nearly 50/day. There was one Platinum Award (10,000 reviews), 2 Gold Awards (5000 reviews), 6 Silver (2000 ), 8 Bronze (1000 ), 30 Iron (360 ) and 70 more for the 100 barnstar. Hey man im josh led on redirect reviews by clearing 36,175 of them. For the full details, see the Awards page and the Hall of Fame. Congratulations everyone for their efforts in reviewing!
WMF work on PageTriage: The WMF Moderator Tools team and volunteer software developers deployed the rewritten NewPagesFeed in October, and then gave the NewPagesFeed a slight visual facelift in November. This concludes most major work to Special:NewPagesFeed, and most major work by the WMF Moderator Tools team, who wrapped up their major work on PageTriage in October. The WMF Moderator Tools team and volunteer software developers will continue small work on PageTriage as time permits.
Recruitment: A couple of the coordinators have been inviting editors to become reviewers, via mass-messages to their talk pages. If you know someone who you'd think would make a good reviewer, then a personal invitation to them would be great. Additionally, if there are Wikiprojects that you are active on, then you can add a post there asking participants to join NPP. Please be careful not to double invite folks that have already been invited.
Reviewing tip: Reviewers who prefer to patrol new pages within their most familiar subjects can use the regularly updated NPP Browser tool.
Reminders:
- You can access live chat with patrollers on the New Pages Patrol Discord.
- Consider adding the project discussion page to your watchlist.
- To opt out of future mailings, please remove yourself here.
