Could I have a copy

Hi, could I please have a copy of my message and the users I was intending to send it to. Thanks. Mr.Kennedy1 talk 17:07, 21 October 2010 (UTC)

Sure, message was:
Hello, I will be no longer editing on Wikipedia anymore and want to thank everyone that has helped me along the way. I will say sorry to my adoptees for not finishing the process of adoption. I would also like it if the people kept WP:DARTS going smoothly as I worked very hard on the project and would not like to see it go inactive. So, goodbye, I will miss working with you.

Feel free to leave any messages or barnstars on my talk page.

Thanks. Mr.Kennedy1 talk 17:23, 21 October 2010 (UTC)

could you please stop adding the iwl de:damad to this article? this de.article only match a very little/no part of the content of Wedding ceremony participants. from de.wiki several articles link to Wedding ceremony participants because there has every participants his own article. thanks. greetings Shadak (talk) 10:08, 24 October 2010 (UTC)

Hi there. When interwiki bots add incorrect links you can stop them from doing this by commenting it out, instead of removing it, like this:
<!--de:Damad-->
The better solution would be to actually fix the interwiki network, so that all the links on all the languages are correct, so that bots stop picking up the wrong links, but that takes a bit more time. - EdoDodo talk 10:30, 24 October 2010 (UTC)
There is no better solution like this, because the german wikipedia has not and will not have an article like Wedding ceremony participants, because they slitted the article in several articles, so the english article has to link to several articles (or someone split the english article) and this is atm not possible...so the only option is commenting it out. greetings Shadak (talk) 11:01, 24 October 2010 (UTC)
Okay, I see the problem. That will just have to stay commented out so that bots don't keep adding it then. - EdoDodo talk 11:02, 24 October 2010 (UTC)

"Addition of seemingly random characters"

That filter is probably sufficient to tag as "nonsense characters". mechamind90 18:32, 27 October 2010 (UTC)

Hmm... Okay, I've commented at WP:Edit filter/Requested and if there are no objections then I'll change it to tag. - EdoDodo talk 18:44, 27 October 2010 (UTC)
Merged into filter 135 which is set to tag with repeating characters. - EdoDodo talk 11:15, 28 October 2010 (UTC)

GOCE copy edit drive

Greetings from the Guild of Copy Editors Backlog Elimination Drive!

The Wikipedia Guild of Copy-Editors invites you to participate in the November 2010 Backlog Elimination Drive, a month-long effort to reduce the backlog of articles that require copy-editing. The drive will begin on 1 November at 00:00 (UTC) and will end on 30 November at 23:59 (UTC). The goal for this drive is to reduce the backlog by 10% (approximately 500 articles). We hope to focus our efforts on the oldest three months (January, February, and March 2009) and the newest three months (September, October, and November 2010) of articles in the queue.

Sign-up has already begun at the November drive page, and will be open throughout the drive. If you have any questions or concerns, please leave a message on the drive's talk page.

Before you begin copy-editing, please carefully read the instructions on the main drive page. Please make sure that you know how to copy-edit, and be familiar with the Wikipedia Manual of Style.

Awards and barnstars

A range of barnstars will be awarded to active participants, some of which are exclusive to GOCE drives. More information on awards can be found on the main drive page.

Thank you; we look forward to meeting you on the drive!

A message from WikiProject Wikify!

Thanks for participating in the October 2010 Wikification Backlog Elimination Drive! We made significant progress, wikifying hundreds of articles. However, the backlog still needs a large amount of effort--discussions about the next drive (in December) are underway. Until then, happy editing!

Subuh prayer

Good morning, I am wondering why you [removed] Subuh from the Fajr article. I am assuming id stands for Indonesia. Fajr is known as Subuh in that part of the world, unless I am mistaken? Thanks Aquib (talk) 12:06, 5 November 2010 (UTC)

In fact, your robot seems to be going through the encyclopedia and removing all sorts of linguistic notes. I am assuming there is a good reason for this, and I would appreciate it if you would help me understand. Thanks. Aquib (talk) 13:47, 5 November 2010 (UTC)
Hello! The bot removed the link because the article it linked to no longer exists. I hope this clears it up. - EdoDodo talk 15:57, 5 November 2010 (UTC)
Sorry, I'm not too familiar with categorization. I also cannot speak Bahasa Indonesia, and have no idea how/why the articles on prayer in the Indonesian portal got redirected the way they did. There is a disambiguation for salat subuh on the portal, but the expected redirect does not seem to be active. At any rate, I assume redirect and disambiguations must not be suitable elements for categorization. Otherwise your bot would not have deleted the associated entry from the en:fajr article. WP will always be a work in progress I suppose. In any case, frightening to consider the possibility it might ever be completed. Aquib (talk) 03:33, 6 November 2010 (UTC)

Notice about MDB

The bot has unexpectedly shut down half way through a request. Is there something wrong with the bot? The UtahraptorTalk/Contribs 16:07, 14 November 2010 (UTC) Never mind, seems to be up and running again. The UtahraptorTalk/Contribs 16:21, 14 November 2010 (UTC)

Hello! I'm not sure why that happens, but it has been happening for very long requests (more than ~50 users) when they are run using the web interface. I've tried to fix it but without success. I've started the bot up again and it's finishing off the delivery. I'll work on fixing it, but for the moment the only thing you can do is let the bot run (it runs every hour) instead of manually starting it from the web interface if the request is long. If I can't fix it (it might be impossible to fix because of the Toolserver's timeout limit), then I might have to disable the option to run the bot from the web interface. I'll keep you updated. - EdoDodo talk 16:23, 14 November 2010 (UTC)
Run now is disabled for the moment because of the problems it was causing. I'll be replacing it with an alternative soon but it might not be possible to get the live output again. - EdoDodo talk 17:34, 15 November 2010 (UTC)
Thank you for the update. The UtahraptorTalk/Contribs 21:54, 15 November 2010 (UTC)

Could I ask you to go 'weapons free' and address any requests that happen to get left there? I just don't have the cycles to run the bot at the present time.

Can I also direct new requests to you (or would you prefer they be filed there and you pick them up at your leisure?) –xenotalk 00:31, 15 November 2010 (UTC)

Hi there! I've picked up the WP:CRICKET request, but I'll leave the other two for the moment. The WP:MILHIST one is awaiting a category list as far as I see, and the other one requires skipping of certain articles, which my bot cannot do at the moment. As for redirecting requests to me, it's probably better if we keep the current system with the instructions and all but perhaps you could add a notice saying that I may be picking up some of the requests. I'll keep the request page watchlisted. - EdoDodo talk 15:34, 15 November 2010 (UTC)
Cool. Any help is much appreciated. Cheers, –xenotalk 15:40, 15 November 2010 (UTC)

The December 2010 Wikification Backlog Elimination Drive is about to begin!

Get ready.

The December 2010 Wikification Backlog Elimination Drive is about to begin. Prep your keyboards, as the drive aims to wikify over 2,000 articles this month. We're going to need all the firepower we can get, so please get your friends to join up as well. In case you didn't know, wikification is fairly simple: just add wiki markup, links, and similar ". Thanks for joining; we're looking forward to an exciting time this month!

As you are either a participant of WikiProject or the October wikification drive or have signed up to participate in the planned December drive, this probably concerns you. Discussions that have been inactive for a couple weeks regarding the December drive have been reactivated, and we would like you to participate in these discussions, and also consider joining the December drive. We have taken upon ourselves a massive workload, encompassing a backlog reaching June 2008 and comprising 0 articles. Barnstars will be awarded to participating editors, and also, please invite your friends to join! Please do not reply to this message here. Either reply here, here or here.

Delievery Bot

Hi there :), im just wondering how people of projects get messages sent to them? such as Wikiproject Wikify as all of the members on this page are in a table? - Sophie (Talk) 12:08, 30 November 2010 (UTC)

Hi there! Requests to have the bot send messages are submitted here and (once approved), the message is sent out by the bot to a list of people which was provided by the person making the request. The bot doesn't check whether the list submitted matches the participants of the WikiProject, this is usually done manually by the person approving the request. - EdoDodo talk 16:43, 30 November 2010 (UTC)

MessageDeliveryBot blocked

I've blocked MessageDeliveryBot due to its enacting of TeleComNasSprVen's request. Adding TeleComNasSprVen to the blacklist did not stop the bot. So far as I can tell there was no discussion of mass unsubscribing the entire signpost delivery list, and at least one user (besides myself) objected. This request shouldn't have been approved without discussion. Prodego talk 06:14, 21 December 2010 (UTC)

I reverted several of the messages, but not all, it probably isn't worth it to revert them anyway... Prodego talk 06:18, 21 December 2010 (UTC)
I agree that the message should not have been approved. I have removed access to Ancient Apparition, who approved the message. The reason the blacklist didn't stop the bot is that the bot doesn't reload it mid-run. Looking back, that was a bit foolish, I've changed it now to reload it regularly during the run. - EdoDodo talk 12:13, 21 December 2010 (UTC)
Excellent, thanks. Prodego talk 20:25, 21 December 2010 (UTC)
I was unaware that there were any problems with the request, nor was I aware TCNSPV was blacklisted. It was a fault on my part for approving that message and not double-checking to see whether or not it was appropriate. I had absolutely no idea that there was any problem with the request itself. —Ancient ApparitionChampagne? • 3:07pm • 04:07, 22 December 2010 (UTC)
P.S. I had assumed that EdoDodo didn't mind the request, since the request itself had been stagnant. —Ancient ApparitionChampagne? • 3:10pm • 04:10, 22 December 2010 (UTC)
I've re-granted access for the moment, but please be more careful that there is consensus for the message being delivered if it potentially controversial. - EdoDodo talk 13:22, 24 December 2010 (UTC)

DodoBot / WP:SEATTLE

Happy New Year! I was hoping I could get your bot's assistance with auto-assessing the Seattle WikiProject's unassessed articles. I would like the Seattle tag to inherit any assessments from other tags, and auto tag stubs if the article is using a stub template. There are 526 unassessed articles at the moment, and was hoping with your help we can at least put a dent in it. Thanks! --Admrboltz (talk) 18:34, 1 January 2011 (UTC)

Happy New Year :). Sure, I'd be happy to run it, but have to be sure that there's consensus for it first, though. Would you mind starting a discussion with the project to check that there is consensus, or pointing me to an existing discussion if I've missed it. Thanks,  - EdoDodo talk 10:17, 2 January 2011 (UTC)

Hi there. The bot ran off the list at Wikipedia:WikiProject Dacia/Categories which was made by the users of the WikiProject. If any of the categories there are incorrect, let me know and I'll run the bot to un-tag those categories. If it is just a specific article that was being incorrectly tagged, feel free to remove the tag. - EdoDodo talk 16:43, 7 January 2011 (UTC)

← I was just about to come here to slap you with a barnstar, but then I noticed I've already given you one - so that would kindof be like reverse-double-jeopardy. Bot Code

Hey EdoDodo, I'm going to create a personalized welcome message for the ACC tool, Do I just give you the code when it's finished ? No rush.... Let me know if you see me or I'll just check back here in a few hours, days, lol. Thanx. Mlpearc powwow 22:48, 22 January 2011 (UTC)

Hi there. Well, firstly you need to create a template for the welcome message, usually in a user subpage (for example, User:Mlpearc/Welcome). Make sure this template accepts a sig parameter (you can output it using {}) and possibly a user parameter if the template mentions the username of the person welcoming them (for example: Hi, my name is {} and I'd like to welcome you...). Finally, to output the name of the user being welcomed use this code: .
The last thing you need to do is add the template to WelcomerBot's list. To do so go to this page and fill it out like this:
Display code: (this is the code shown to users when selecting templates so they can look at it)
Bot code: (this is the code used by the bot, who replaces $user with the welcomer's username and $sig with his signature)
I hope this helps, and if it doesn't work feel free to contact me and I'll help out wherever I can. - EdoDodo talk 13:04, 23 January 2011 (UTC)
Hey thanx for the run down. I am tweaking Chzz's version User:Chzz/botwelcome with my version User:Mlpearc/Accwelcome. I have a feeling you've seen it before ( if you haven't maybe you run through and see if you spot somethiong ), the {sig}, {user} parameters don't work, why nobody knows so I'll double check your post with what I have and when I get it working I'll set it up on the tool and let you know. I also noticed that in my user space the parameter works and any where else I tested it, it display's itself, huh anyway Thanx Mlpearc powwow 05:17, 28 January 2011 (UTC)
I made an edit to the template, trying to fix it. Let me know if it worked, and feel free to add it to the tool if it's fixed. - EdoDodo talk 06:14, 28 January 2011 (UTC)
Well I tried it here Welcome Template test and none of the commands work, I'll play with it but, it's getting out of the realm of my knowledge :P. If you want to try that's my wife's talk page so there's no harm playing with it. thanx for your time :) Mlpearc powwow 05:12, 29 January 2011 (UTC)
(talk page stalker) Fixed, don't forget the code is actually . I also added some noincludes to the template for you. - Kingpin13 (talk) 05:52, 29 January 2011 (UTC)
EdoDodo Kingpin13 fixed the welcome message so here are the codes,
Display code:
Bot code:
Posting in at the tool now, any problems let me know, thanx Mlpearc powwow 20:48, 2 February 2011 (UTC)

Question about this bot

I was hoping to start using this bot fro WikiProject United States but I had a couple questions. Does this bot deliver newsletters or just notify of messages at a certain project page?

I was also wondering if there was a way to do a group request rather than one name at a time. There are over 200 members of WikiProject US and if we start using this bot for the newsletter I would rather not do the request 200 times. Thanks. --Kumioko (talk) 12:59, 9 April 2011 (UTC)

DodoBot coding issue?

Hi. :) I noticed that DodoBot messed up a template left at this talk page when doing its business. I have no idea why, but thought I would bring it to your attention in the hopes that you can isolate and fix whatever caused it. Thanks. (Signing three tildes, since I would prefer this not be archived unread and see you haven't been around for a while!) Moonriddengirl (talk) 16:08, 25 April 2011

Hi there! Thanks for letting me know. It's probably some kind of problem related with the regular expressions involved in the bot, which are quite complex and would take a fair bit of time to debug. DodoBot is, like me, quite inactive at the moment, so not much point in spending time debugging it at the moment. I promise I'll look into what happened before I run it again, though. I dated your post by the way, hope you don't mind. - EdoDodo talk 19:21, 8 June 2011 (UTC)

It's been coming along great from what I can see it's coming along great. Anyway welcome back :D —James (TalkContribs)8:04pm 10:04, 17 June 2011 (UTC)

Hi, thanks. I'm sorry but I've already got a lot of things to do, so will not be working in abuse response again just yet. I've heard of the new interface, and might help out a bit on it. However, I probably won't have the time to help significantly in the development. - EdoDodo talk 10:06, 17 June 2011 (UTC)
Rightio then, hope your exams went well :) If you ever want to join AR again, give me or another team member a holler and I'll dig up the page history and re-add your info. Again, welcome back. —James (TalkContribs)8:11pm 10:11, 17 June 2011 (UTC)
Thanks. - EdoDodo talk 10:12, 17 June 2011 (UTC)

Chicago Project tagging run

Will you have time to do a WP:CHICAGO tagging run?--TonyTheTiger (T/C/BIO/WP:CHICAGO/WP:FOUR) 17:17, 15 June 2011 (UTC)

Hi there. I'm working through the requests one by one. Should have them all done by the end of the week, but WP:CHICAGO will probably be one of the last ones I do, since I'm leaving the ones with large category lists for last (as they take the longest to do). - EdoDodo talk 17:23, 15 June 2011 (UTC)
You. Best. Insert "The". FYI, the R&B request was never finished (it was quite large). I was using your Python script which kept getting hung up by unicode characters - I think that's a Windows issue which likely won't be a problem if you are running from toolserver. –xenotalk 17:56, 15 June 2011 (UTC)
remember not to do subcats for Chicago.--TonyTheTiger (T/C/BIO/WP:CHICAGO/WP:FOUR) 18:13, 15 June 2011 (UTC)

This task is now running. Should be done some time tomorrow. - EdoDodo talk 20:15, 16 June 2011 (UTC)

 Done - EdoDodo talk 10:08, 17 June 2011 (UTC)
Thanks.--TonyTheTiger (T/C/BIO/WP:CHICAGO/WP:FOUR) 23:00, 18 June 2011 (UTC)

DodoBot problem

Looks like your bot is improperly classifying pages. See here. The problem has also been reported on WP:EAR.--Bbb23 (talk) 22:37, 18 June 2011 (UTC)

Mila Kunis is a voice actor on Family Guy. The Transformers were probably in the provided category list; see user:xenobot/R#WP:ANIMATION. –xenotalk 23:04, 18 June 2011 (UTC)
So, if I understand properly, the Animation project wants a person like Kunis to be part of their project? I should revert my reversion if that's true.--Bbb23 (talk) 23:26, 18 June 2011 (UTC)
Based on Xeno's comment on WP:EAR, I've reverted my reversion of the Bot's change to the Kunis Talk page. I have a suggestion, though, to reduce any confusion by editors as to what the bot is doing, which is to include more info in the edit summary, e.g., a pointer to that category list that Xeno noted on EAR.--Bbb23 (talk) 23:44, 18 June 2011 (UTC)

Hello. Apologies for not responding more quickly, I'd left the bot to run automatically since everything seemed to be going alright. Yes, it looks like some pages which were quite far from the scope of the project were tagged. This isn't due to the bot malfunctioning - as Xeno said, the bot was simply following a category list provided by the WikiProject. Thank you for the suggestion - I'll try to make it more clear why the bot tagged a page in the future. What do you think of this for an edit summary?

Bot: Working for WP:PROJECT; Inheriting Stub-class assessment; Tagging article because it is in

The bot will also add or one of it's subcategories if it is recursing into subcategories (which isn't normally the case). - EdoDodo talk 08:07, 19 June 2011 (UTC)

Actually, I'm a bit worried that adding that to the edit summary will clog it up too much and result in really long edit summaries. I've added more information about where the category list can be found and what to do in case of a mistag on both the bot's user page and the page linked in the bot's edit summary. Do you think that will be sufficient? - EdoDodo talk 11:08, 19 June 2011 (UTC)
I'm having some trouble finding the category list on either the bot's user page or on the page linked to in the edit summary (your links above). Maybe I'm missing a pointer or maybe I'm just not used to looking for this sort of thing.--Bbb23 (talk) 14:20, 19 June 2011 (UTC)
This is because Edo is actually doing work that was requested of my bot on my behalf. Now that he has set up a request page for his bot (where I will direct people instead), I imagine that future runs will be easier to understand. –xenotalk 14:26, 19 June 2011 (UTC)
I'm a very literal person who tries to take things in small steps. I thought Edo was trying to show me what I would actually see and how that would then explain what the bot was doing. My point was I didn't see it. Your point is a more "trust me, it'll be okay" (no offense). Is there a way I can see what it will look like in the future? My apologies if you think I'm being dense.--Bbb23 (talk) 14:44, 19 June 2011 (UTC)
Was the bot's talk page your first port-of-call? If so, in future you would see something like user talk:Xenobot Mk V with a section for the project referenced in the edit summary. The bot's userpage should also have a pointer there, like at user:xenobot Mk V. Long story short: blame me for passing the buck to Edo =). –xenotalk 14:58, 19 June 2011 (UTC)
I would expect the edit summary to point to the request the bot is fulfilling and that the request should be sufficiently clear that an editor like me can understand whether the bot is properly complying with the request and what to do if (1) the bot is not properly complying or (2) the bot is complying but the editor disagrees with what's being done and wants to raise that issue in the appropriate forum. As a backup, it would be helpful if the edit summary could also point to the category list (as you did at EAR), which, at least in this instance, seems to be the meat of the bot's task. I don't want to blame anyone. I think both of you are being patient and cooperative.--Bbb23 (talk) 15:20, 19 June 2011 (UTC)
If it said Tagging for WP:FOO on link|request and the linked request had the category list (and information at the top of the page about the bot's operation), that would be ok? There is limited room in the edit summary and some of it needs to be used to explain how the bot assessed the article. –xenotalk 15:31, 19 June 2011 (UTC)
If the linked request was easy to understand and the category list was easy to find within it, yes.--Bbb23 (talk) 15:45, 19 June 2011 (UTC)

Just to clarify why the current instructions for finding the request and category list don't work: I am currently doing the last request from Xenobot's requests. Once that is done, Xenobot's requests page will be closed down and redirected to DodoBot's requests page. In my opinion, we should just stick to the current edit summary, which is:

Bot: Tagging articles for WP:PROJECT

The Bot word in the edit summary links to a page that explains the process by which the bot works. Both this page and the bot's user page show this notice at the top:

In addition, the bot's talk page redirects to the requests page, so anyone going to the bot's talk page to ask a question about a task will find it on the requests page.

I don't think the request should be linked directly in the edit summary using a section link for several reasons:

 • Requests will eventually be archived once they have been completed for some time. When that happens, the section link in the edit summary will be broken.
 • Some people will be confused if they reach the requests page directly, and would prefer to reach an explanation that points them in the right direction.
 • Some people will probably be opposed to linking to a requests page directly in the summary as this might be seen as an attempt to promote the bot.

Linking to the category list is probably also not a good idea since the category lists tend to change as users find more relevant categories and remove ones that are irrelevant or no longer exist. So, if somebody finds the bot's edit some time after it has been made, and follows the link to the category list, it is likely that it won't be any help to him.

So, in my opinion, the best solution is to leave the edit summary as it is but have the instructions guide the user to the right place. Of course, these instructions don't work at the moment since the requests are not on DodoBot's requests page, but as soon as this last request is done and Xenobot's requests page is closed down, requests will start arriving on DodoBot's requests page (which is where the instructions tell users to go), and the instructions will make sense.

Of course, suggestions on how the instructions could be improved and made clearer are more than welcome - in fact, you're all free to edit the bot's user-space to make any improvements you see fit. - EdoDodo talk 16:29, 19 June 2011 (UTC)

Makes sense, now that it will all be done via DodoBot's request and process pages, things should be a lot clearer for users encountering the bot's work. –xenotalk 15:45, 20 June 2011 (UTC)
