Hi Dave, and welcome to the 'pedia. Good to see you picked up on the incorrectly named entries on the Nvidia cards.

Just a litte tip for you. When you move a page, use the sidebar controls to do it, as a cut & paste move results in the loss of the page history. I've just:

  • deleted your new GeForce 4 entry
  • reverted the (incorrectly titled) GeForce4 to get the text back (instead of the redirect)
  • moved that page over to the crrect title

In a moment I'll do the same with GeForce 2

Next time you edit either of those pages, you'll be able to hit "Page History" and all the previous edits will be there.

Best -- Tannin 10:52, 9 Apr 2004 (UTC)

  • Thanks! I'd moved a few pages that way before I registered; I just didn't know that there was an easier way for registered users to move pages! DaveJB 14:19, 9 Apr 2004 (UTC)

Mavic Chen

[edit]

How is Mavic Chen notable aside from his presence in The Daleks' Master Plan which pretty much says all there is to be said about him? We're duplicating a lot of information unncessarily if we're going to write articles for every minor character. --khaosworks 08:45, May 25, 2005 (UTC)

  • Sorry, for some reason I thought that there was also a Big Finish audio or New Adventure about him (hence why I left it as a stub to begin with). I must have gotten him mixed up with someone else.

Having said that, couldn't the same argument be made about Sara? --DaveJB 16:51, 25 May 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Well, Sara is one of those special cases - same argument could be made for Katarina - because she's not just a character in Master Plan, but is considered by some to be a companion, and thus more notable because of that status. She also appears in the Dalek comic book annual of 1965, which I should mention at some point, now that I'm reminded of it. --khaosworks 16:57, May 25, 2005 (UTC)

NOES

[edit]

Good job on catching the correct writer for that film. I never noticed that it said Wes Craven, probably because I didn't create that infobox template. Keep up the good editing. Bignole 21:38, 23 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Persil Power

[edit]

Hi Dave,

According to the history, you wrote originally the article Persil Power. Thank you for that. I just cannot find anywhere on the internet another source for the last paragraph:

The effects of the chemical reaction could be counteracted by adding a relatively cheap chemical inhibitor to the formula, but considering the embarrassment the episode had caused Unilever (together with what the costs of recalling the old formula and manufacturing a new formula with the inhibitor would have been) they decided to issue a recall and then simply abandon the brand. A number of lawsuits were issued against Unilever by retail chains and consumers, but the vast majority of them were settled outside of court. Afterwards, a less powerful version of the catalyst (and the inhibitor agent) was added to Persil's main formula. The corrosive effects were not reproduced, and many people didn't notice the change in the formula. This led to a discreet relaunch of the super-compact format as "Persil Performance".

Could you please help me finding out how I can refer to this? I am currently writing an article on the Dutch Wikipedia about this subject. I hope you can answer soon. Thanks a lot. effeietsanders 09:23, 3 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

The source I used for that section was a Business Studies textbook I was using at the time. I have not been able to track a copy of it down, unfortunately, and the fact that nowhere else cites anything about this "inhibitor" suggests that the textbook might have been wrong about it. Either way, I've edited part of the paragraph down, at least until I can find a more robust source. Thanks for bringing this to my attention. --DaveJB 21:35, 6 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you for your research. Maybe you know the title of that textbook? I study chemistry myself, and could take a look in our library here or otherwise in the Royal Library in The Hague. effeietsanders 08:48, 10 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

A suggestion - the edit you made wasn't great. To Rise from the Ashes, that is. A game over does not constitute an alternate ending.

Also, disregard the person who called the edit stupid - the user is not representative of Wikipedians in general (at least, the good ones). This user just doesn't care to read basic policy. - A Link to the Past (talk) 19:17, 7 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Fair use rationale for Image:ElmersCamera.jpg

[edit]

Thanks for uploading or contributing to Image:ElmersCamera.jpg. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in Wikipedia articles constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any fair use images uploaded after 4 May, 2006, and lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Ilse@ 23:01, 3 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Mandela statue photo

[edit]

Seeing as you have released the photo into the public domain, would you consider uploading it to the Wikimedia Commons instead? This would make it available to all Wikimedia projects. FYI, Commons is trying to create a repository of free images much like WP is creating a free content encyclopedia. If you want, I could do it for you as I have an account at Commons too. Orphaned non-free media (Image:Enterprise-AutoDestruct.jpg)

[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:Enterprise-AutoDestruct.jpg. The media description page currently specifies that it is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, it is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the media was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that media for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Swallow

[edit]

Hi. I've looked at page 131 of the York City Complete Record book, and I can see no mention of Swallow - could you have been mistaken with the page number? Thanks, Mattythewhite 11:07, 24 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Ack, you're right, it seems that I misread the page. I can't seem to find a reference in that book for Swallow's spell in '82, so I'll check for another reference for it soon as I can, as I very definitely remember Kevin Randall being forced out in Feb/March of that year due to his poor record and Swallow landing the job largely because no-one else wanted it. --DaveJB 11:36, 24 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Yeah, page 388 says Randall left in March and Swallow was in charge until May. But, no specific dates are given so it's hard to see which matches were exactly Swallow's. I have to say, your username seems a lot like the author's name... may I ask is there any connection there? Thanks, Mattythewhite 11:45, 24 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]
From what I remember, Swallow took over immediately after Randall left, and remained in charge until the end of the season, with Denis Smith coming in a couple of weeks after the last match (Soccerbase's dates seem to be a bit out). But yeah, it'd probably be better if we knew exactly who was in charge for which matches. And I'm not connected with the book's author, it's just one of those weird co-incidences that happen in life. If it's any indication though, my actual surname's drawn comparisons with both Ziggy Stardust, and the lead character in 2001: A Space Odyssey. :P --DaveJB 13:35, 24 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

The Cartridge Family

[edit]

This is probably a long shot, but over a year ago you added a piece of trivia to The Cartridge Family about what John Swartzwelder based the soccer game on. (here) Do you happen to know where you got that info from? Because I'm getting the article to GA status and it really needs a source if its going to stay, and its certainly interesting enough. So do you possibly have one? Thanks. Gran2 10:41, 25 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I read in a British soccer magazine (FourFourTwo, I think), in an article about how well (or badly) soccer was catching on in the US. Unfortunately I don't remember the exact issue, only that it was published in early-mid 2006, and I almost certainly would have had it recycled by now. In the interests of getting GA status for the article, you might as well remove it for now, and if the issue in question (or any other source) is found, it can be re-added at a later date. --DaveJB 11:22, 25 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Replaceable fair use Image:CamfieldandHarper.jpg

[edit]
Replaceable fair use
Replaceable fair use

Thanks for uploading Image:CamfieldandHarper.jpg. I noticed the 'image' page specifies that the image is being used under fair use, but its use in Wikipedia articles fails our first fair use criterion in that it illustrates a subject for which a freely licensed image could reasonably be found or created that provides substantially the same information. If you believe this image is not replaceable, please:

  1. Go to the image description page and edit it to add {{di-replaceable fair use disputed}}, without deleting the original Replaceable fair use template.
  2. On the image discussion page, write the reason why this image is not replaceable at all.

Alternatively, you can also choose to replace the fair use image by finding a freely licensed image of its subject, requesting that the copyright holder release this (or a similar) image under a free license, or by taking a picture of it yourself.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified how these images fully satisfy our fair use criteria. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on this link. Note that even if you follow steps 1 and 2 above, fair use images which could be replaced by free-licensed alternatives will be deleted 2 days after this notification (7 days if not used in an article), per our Fair Use policy. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Videmus Omnia Talk 16:47, 13 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for uploading Image:BentonPrimord.jpg. You've indicated that the image is being used under a claim of fair use, but you have not provided an adequate explanation for why it meets Wikipedia's requirements for such images. In particular, for each page the image is used on, the image must have an explanation linking to that page which explains why it needs to be used on that page. Can you please check

  • That there is a non-free use rationale on the image's description page for each article the image is used in.
  • That every article it is used on is linked to from its description page.

File source problem with File:Colonel Rimfire.jpg

File Copyright problem
File Copyright problem

Thanks for uploading File:Colonel Rimfire.jpg. I noticed that the file's description page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you did not create this file yourself, you will need to specify the owner of the copyright. If you obtained it from a website, then a link to the website from which it was taken, together with a restatement of that website's terms of use of its content, is usually sufficient information. However, if the copyright holder is different from the website's publisher, their copyright should also be acknowledged.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have specified their source and tagged them, too. You can find a list of files you have uploaded by following this link. Unsourced and untagged images may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If the image is copyrighted under a non-free license (per Wikipedia:Fair use) then the image will be deleted 48 hours after 21:00, 13 September 2009 (UTC). If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Admrboltz (talk) 21:00, 13 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

An editor has nominated one or more articles which you have created or worked on, for deletion. The nominated article is Style over substance fallacy. We appreciate your contributions, but the nominator doesn't believe that the article satisfies Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion and has explained why in his/her nomination (see also Wikipedia:Notability and "What Wikipedia is not").

Your opinions on whether the article meets inclusion criteria and what should be done with the article are welcome; please participate in the discussion(s) by adding your comments to Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Style over substance fallacy. Please be sure to sign your comments with four tildes (~~~~).

You may also edit the article during the discussion to improve it but should not remove the articles for deletion template from the top of the article; such removal will not end the deletion debate.

Disputed non-free use rationale for File:CamfieldandHarper.jpg

[edit]

Thank you for uploading File:CamfieldandHarper.jpg. However, there is a concern that the rationale provided for using this file on Wikipedia may not meet the criteria required by Wikipedia:Non-free content. This can be corrected by going to the file description page and adding or clarifying the reason why the file qualifies under this policy. Adding and completing one of the templates available from Wikipedia:Non-free use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your file is in compliance with Wikipedia policy. Please be aware that a non-free use rationale is not the same as an image copyright tag; descriptions for files used under the non-free content policy require both a copyright tag and a non-free use rationale.

If it is determined that the file does not qualify under the non-free content policy, it might be deleted by an administrator within a few days in accordance with our criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions, please ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thank you. Sfan00 IMG (talk) 20:21, 9 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]

You are now a Reviewer

[edit]

Hello. Your account has been granted the "reviewer" userright, allowing you to review other users' edits on certain flagged pages. Pending changes, also known as flagged protection, is currently undergoing a two-month trial scheduled to end 15 August 2010.

Reviewers can review edits made by users who are not autoconfirmed to articles placed under pending changes. Pending changes is applied to only a small number of articles, similarly to how semi-protection is applied but in a more controlled way for the trial. The list of articles with pending changes awaiting review is located at Special:OldReviewedPages.

When reviewing, edits should be accepted if they are not obvious vandalism or BLP violations, and not clearly problematic in light of the reason given for protection (see Wikipedia:Reviewing process). More detailed documentation and guidelines can be found here.

If you do not want this userright, you may ask any administrator to remove it for you at any time. Courcelles (talk) 03:20, 17 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Hell's Kitchen (U.S. Season 2)

[edit]

Thank you for work work on this page. I wanted to let you know that I undid your change of the contestant progress section. Current consensus is to mark all contestants that are eliminated as one color regardless of how they were nominated. Therefore contestants that are specifically called out by Chef Ramsay and eliminated are no different than contestants that were team nominated. If you disagree with this please review the discussion on the series page so as to understand why we are going about it this way. Thanks Hasteur (talk) 14:12, 24 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Non-free rationale for File:White Guardian.jpg

The article Adventures of the Road Runner has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

Has no visible verifiable references from reliable sources.

While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, pages may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the page to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion.   — Jeff G. ツ 12:06, 7 December 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Howdy. BTW, Herb Gray was never the interim leader of the Liberal Party of Canada. He was only leader of the opposition. John Turner remained party leader until Jean Chretien assumed the role at the 1990 leadership convention. Turner gave up 'only' his post as leader of the opposition in Feb 1990, four months before the convention.
