Question from Tarnika Hazra (11:06, 7 July 2024)

[edit]

Hello Mam,

I am new here. Please let me know if I want to add any new things to Wikipedia then what should I do? --Tarnika Hazra (talk) 11:06, 7 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

@Tarnika Hazra: Depends on what you want to do. I have some resources listed at the top of this page you might find helpful. Let me know if you're looking for more specific advice. Clovermoss🍀 (talk) 11:14, 7 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Question from Kemifreund (15:47, 7 July 2024)

[edit]

Hi, I'm editing "Katharine Blunt" and have found several more of her scientific publications. Should I add them? - Thanks --Kemifreund (talk) 15:47, 7 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Kemifreund. Feel free to be bold! If you think you can improve Katharine Blunt, go for it. If someone reverts you, you can discuss it with them. Clovermoss🍀 (talk) 17:09, 7 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

I need some help over at Wikipedia:Administrators'_noticeboard/Incidents#84.206.11.96. Would you be so kind to take a look? Thanks in advance, Polygnotus (talk) 13:19, 8 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

@Polygnotus: I reverted to the last stable version but I'm hesitant to do more. I've commented at the thread you linked. I'm alright with other admins taking further action if they think that's what's best. Clovermoss🍀 (talk) 14:43, 8 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I clearly outlined my arguments, I added at least five different sources for the content you removed. Where it was necessary, I quoted reliable sources. You just deleted things, because you could. You did not went into details etc. So my question is somple, if I found seven sources which underpin what I wrote, can I insert it into text, as I pointed out on the talk page at least five times, or is she a noli me tangere? 84.225.152.139 (talk) 14:49, 8 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
What you should do is paraphrase the content in your own words instead of just quoting everything. You should also use Talk:Ilaria Salis to propose these changes because you cannot edit war to get your way. Disputed changes need to be discussed on the talk page so editors can come to a consensus. Do you understand what I mean by this? Clovermoss🍀 (talk) 14:54, 8 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Lets have a look at the at the Talk Page. I found 7 different sources that prove that she owes money. Polygnomy deleted what I wrote, namely she owes money. No explanation. So it is ok, according to you? 84.225.152.139 (talk) 15:05, 8 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
You know that my name is not "Polygnomy". I have provided a lot of information about the problems with the edits you made. You were unwilling to collaborate. If you continue you will be blocked. You should probably move on. Polygnotus (talk) 15:23, 8 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
And where did I violate copyrights? Please, teach me! 84.225.152.139 (talk) 15:02, 8 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
What you need is a lesson on how to behave in a collaborative environment, which is far harder than understanding copyright. And of course this is a bad-faith question because you already know where you violated copyright. Polygnotus (talk) 15:23, 8 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Not an answer... 84.225.152.139 (talk) 15:42, 8 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I know how you spend your time with weird homophobic vandalism [1] and attacking public figures who are disliked by Orbán [2] and I think it is pretty sad. We are trying to build something cool here. Try to improve yourself instead of vandalising and trolling on Wikipedia. Polygnotus (talk) 15:50, 8 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
So, again, let's reach a consensus here: How would you rephrase the fact that she did not pay her rent and owes 95000 Euros? 84.225.152.139 (talk) 16:13, 8 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I am not interested in helping you because you are WP:NOTHERE. Polygnotus (talk) 16:14, 8 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I'd appreciate if any back and forth was kept to WP:ANI instead of here on my talk page. Polygnotus, I'd also encourage you to post the diffs you linked here there and maybe provide further context? I don't know what you mean by Orbán, for example. I'm somewhat busy at the moment. Clovermoss🍀 (talk) 16:56, 8 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@Clovermoss, the IP has taken to messaging me on my talk to try and get me to revert @Polygnotus. Not sure if that counts as WP:PROXYING, but I don't really think it is cool. TarnishedPathtalk 13:06, 9 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for letting me know, but I'm going to ping Johnuniq since they did the page protection and see what they think of this. I really am trying to learn more about the admin side of things. Clovermoss🍀 (talk) 14:18, 9 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
The fact that there are several IPs from a wide range, and they all banging on about this one article, convinces me that this is a NOTHERE contributor trying to use Wikipedia to attack a person. That is disruptive. I will start blocking each IP that pops up for a significant period. My recommendation is that people stop commenting here. Instead, ping me if the IP surfaces with the same belligerence and I will block each IP for at least a month. Johnuniq (talk) 00:37, 10 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I did tell people to go to ANI the last time. It just took me a bit to step in because I was busy at the time most of the back and forth was going on (this last comment came later). Will ping you if I notice stuff in the future, though. Thanks for digging into this and offering advice, Johnuniq! Clovermoss🍀 (talk) 00:39, 10 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

A Barnstar!
Thanks for participating in the June 2024 backlog drive!

You scored 101 points while adding citations to articles during WikiProject Reliability's first {{citation needed}} backlog drive, earning you this cleanup barnstar. Thanks for helping out!

Pichpich (talk) 22:00, 8 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks Pichpich. It was a fun backlog drive, I hope to see more like it. :) Maybe something to do with Category:All unreferenced BLPs, Category:BLP articles lacking sources, or some generic improve BLPs drive? I organized some of these articles in my sandbox once upon a time and came across a G10 from years ago. Actually maybe I should organize something like this since I care so much. Do you have any advice for trying to do that? I've never really organized any sort of backlog drive before. Clovermoss🍀 (talk) 22:26, 8 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
It was my first participation in a backlog drive of this type and I also found it quite interesting. I realized that if you restrict the category by topic, you get the high-traffic articles first, which is nice because it feels more productive to clean up an important BLP rather than an obscure, borderline deletable one. Cheers, Pichpich (talk) 15:36, 9 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@Pichpich: I'm glad you had fun with this too. :) Do you know anyone else that was involved in organizing this backlog drive that might be able to give me good advice about organizing my own? It's okay if you don't, I just figured it doesn't hurt to ask. Clovermoss🍀 (talk) 15:46, 9 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
My involvement in the drive is minimal: I'm just handing out barnstars. I think Cremastra (talk · contribs) was the organizer for this drive, and you can always post on Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Reliability which seems to be watched by a few editors. Cheers, Pichpich (talk) 15:52, 9 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Plan well in advance, get someone to help you, and as I learned, be very precise with the rules and scoring. Overprecise, even. It saves time and confusion in the long run. Cremastra (talk) 20:58, 9 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Hey Levivich you commented on my sandbox when I organized this stuff the last time. Any chance you have any advice for a larger scale version of this? [3] Clovermoss🍀 (talk) 16:07, 9 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

I distinctly remember somebody else asking me about this recently -- like in 2024, I think -- but now I can't remember who or where. But I remember pointing them to the stuff we were doing last year. In terms of larger scale version, I think the thing to do is resurrect WP:UBLPR, and get everyone interested in working on this to watchlist that talk page, and coordinate from there. I think the person I was talking to about this earlier this year was interested in methods for identifying unreferenced BLPs and unreferenced articles generally, but UBLPR seems like the natural place to coordinate such efforts. Levivich (talk) 16:17, 9 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@Levivich: Okay, thanks! That does seem like a good place to coordinate future efforts. Clovermoss🍀 (talk) 16:30, 9 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you for taking the time to look at 2021 Canadian church burnings. Please let me know if accessibility is an issue for any of the sources, as I can privately send you PDF or transcript versions as needed (my understanding is that the WSJ is not a common subscription). ~ Pbritti (talk) 03:29, 9 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

@Pbritti: If you could email me the WSJ source it'd be appreciated, I do not have a subscription to that. I'm going to bed soon but I'll post what I have in the table so far on the talk page. Clovermoss🍀 (talk) 03:33, 9 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Clarification request closed

[edit]

The Noleander clarification request that you initiated has been closed and archived. The request was related to that case's principle 9, which states:

Editors are expected to refrain from making unnecessary references to the actual or perceived racial, religious, or ethnic background of fellow editors. Such references should be made only if they clearly serve a legitimate purpose. In the context of a noticeboard discussion or dispute resolution, it will rarely serve a valid purpose to seek to classify the participants in the discussion on this basis.

Among the participating Arbitrators, there was a rough consensus that this principle remains true with current policies and guidelines and that there is not an exemption from this principle for asserting that an editor has a conflict of interest. I was actually thinking of saying something about your impressive work at DYK but then I wanted to wait at least a few days only for someone to beat me to it! I never thought you would be joining DYK to promote a prep to a queue (which only admins can do). I only joined DYK 4 months ago to get cozy game (and funny enough, Animal Crossing: New Horizons to the home page. I never expected myself to review and even to promote a DYK to prep, especially when I am not at 5 or more nominations. Speaking of which, the A9 dualling project was my best article yet and got that to DYK with plans to get it to GA!
Also, I will look into contributing to your editor reflections page tomorrow since its 11pm for me. JuniperChill (talk) 22:29, 12 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Technically I have some previous experience (see here) with DYK. But it's definitely different trying to promote a queue vs writing three/four DYK noms. 😅 Clovermoss🍀 (talk) 22:33, 12 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
And that I have been reviewing DYK articles (I actually have a DYK work page) more than I can nominate them. And I see you have started a DYK nom on no kid zone. JuniperChill (talk) 22:51, 12 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Also Clover Point! I've done 2 of my 4 DYK noms within the past week. :) Clovermoss🍀 (talk) 22:53, 12 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Requesting rights to edit a page name and to insert images

[edit]

Dear Clovermoss,

I hope you are well. I would like to make some changes to the Wikipedia page 'Lala Rukh (Activist)'. I work at the Estate of Lala Rukh to manage the late artist and activist's archives. our goal is to make information on her more accessible. I have edited the text on the already existing page 'Lala Rukh (Activist)'. I would like to correct the title of the page to either just Lala Rukh or to Lala Rukh (Artist and Activist) as that is more accurate. Along with that, I also want to include pictures from her archives in her biography, which I am unable to do currently. If you could grant me more editor rights or administrative rights, I would like to make these necessary changes.

Thank You,

Estateoflalarukh Estateoflalarukh (talk) 13:13, 13 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Estateoflalarukh. My first suggestion is for you to read this page, it explains best practices for editors who have a conflict of interest, such as yourself. If you are sharing this account with other people, please stop doing so and create your own individual accounts.
Lala Rukh (activist) is under that title because Wikipedia has specific naming conventions for titles of articles. Wikipedia:Disambiguation explains how that works. While it's true she may have been an activist and artist, the parentheses do not need to mention that. For another example of this, see Katherine Hughes (activist). "Editing rights" is a bit of a misnomer, as the average person can edit pages with rare exceptions. Since you have a conflict of interest, best practice would be for you to make suggestions on Talk:Lala Rukh (activist) instead of editing the page directly. This page explains how to do that. I cannot grant you administrative rights because that process is a result of Wikipedia:Requests for adminship and involves editors with thousands of edits and months of experience editing the project. Clovermoss🍀 (talk) 13:29, 13 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
To upload an image, I suggest you go through the process described here. Clovermoss🍀 (talk) 13:31, 13 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Question from Wjamcd81 (19:59, 13 July 2024)

[edit]

Hi -

Need to change the image details for an image I uploaded. It was box art for a video game (which I'm pretty sure were approved by wiki for upload) but I put it in as my own work, which it wasn't. I wasn't reading things before I completed the upload. Anyway to fix this or will wiki just delete it on their own when they see it was uploaded incorrectly? Thanks. --Wjamcd81 (talk) 19:59, 13 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, Wjamcd81. Thanks for letting me know. Since you incorrectly indicated it was your own work, the file was uploaded to our sister project, Wikimedia Commons. It will likely get deleted there sometime in the near future. I'd encourage you to try to upload the file again while following this page and clicking the "upload a non-free file" box here. It looks like you're using the file for Monster Strike so you shouldn't have any issues. Let me know if you have further questions! Clovermoss🍀 (talk) 21:43, 13 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Extra help

[edit]

I recently came across the article for LGBT Mormon suicides, and I could not believe what I was seeing. It appears that the entire article is based on WP:PRIMARY sources spliced together to form a cohesive narrative that might not exist in academia. I think you are uniquely qualified to help me out with this article if any of the article's watchers object to my tagging. Scorpions1325 (talk) 12:58, 24 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Hey Scorpions1325. I'll try to take a look. I'm not as familiar with Mormons as I am with JWs but I know more than the average person probably does. I've also dealt with (and am still dealing with) similar issues in JW related articles. I suppose that's why you think I'm uniquely qualified? I'm happy that what I'm doing is getting some recognition. There used to be more than 100 references to the religion's publications at Jehovah's Witnesses, for example. [5] Clovermoss🍀 (talk) 15:14, 24 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
It was for your work at 2021 Canadian church burnings. That was exceptional. Scorpions1325 (talk) 15:23, 24 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@Scorpions1325: Oh, okay. Well I'll try to get around to an in-depth look at the article sometime this week. There's a few other things on my plate. But I will take a look and try to help. Clovermoss🍀 (talk) 15:41, 24 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
No worries. You don't have to do anything at all. I just wanted to draw your attention to it. It appears that I did misspeak. Scorpions1325 (talk) 21:18, 24 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I have a bit more time now, Scorpions1325. Is there any chance you could be more specific about your concerns regarding the article? Do you want me to do a source-integrity analysis like what I did for 2021 Canadian church burnings or just take a look more generally? Clovermoss🍀 (talk) 21:47, 26 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I wouldn't do anything at all just yet. I have yet to find sufficient secondary sources to rewrite the article. I don't think that a source-integrity analysis will be helpful. Such an analysis would be better for any secondary sources that I add to the article.
If it turns out that there aren't enough secondary sources to write an article, I could merge the inclusion-worthy content into other articles. Scorpions1325 (talk) 21:55, 26 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Question from JerusalemLibrarian (17:47, 26 July 2024)

[edit]

Hello Clover,

I joined Wikipedia recently and would like to contribute what I can. I am not sure if you can see my "sandbox", but I just created/wrote a new article about a personality and published it - I think. I had an online friend, who is an experienced writer on here help me out a little. Could you please suggest any improvements I could make, and clarify what exactly the status of the article is?

It is not an orphaned article, as there is at least one published page that had a 'red link' for it already, and I have included references and redirections.

I appreciate your time and help. Thanks. --JerusalemLibrarian (talk) 17:47, 26 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Hi JerusalemLibrarian. I'm assuming you're talking about User:JerusalemLibrarian/sandbox? I added a button that submits the draft for review. It's in much better shape than the average new article I see by a newbie (I assume that your Wikipedia friend helped steer you in the right direction). As for suggestions, I'd explain what a "MProf" is, which is a term you used later on in the article. For publications, people don't usually include articles, just published books. I don't usually write about academics so someone else who does might have better advice. Usually the main thing a reviewer would establish in this circumstance is whether they think the subject meets WP:NPROF. Clovermoss🍀 (talk) 21:45, 26 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Your Button Behaved Strangely

[edit]

It appears that the button that you added then caused the draft to be submitted as your submission, so when I declined it as duplicating another draft, you received a decline message. If you put a similar button in another draft, its use may again cause you to get a misredirected message. Robert McClenon (talk) 04:10, 27 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Yeah I'm not sure what happened there. I just looked for the template through normal search and came across that. I'm not sure what I should be doing instead but I'll figure it out. Clovermoss🍀 (talk) 04:11, 27 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

DYK for Clover Point

On 27 July 2024, Did you know was updated with a fact from the article Clover Point, which you recently created, substantially expanded, or brought to good article status. The fact was ... that untreated sewage was dumped directly into the ocean from Clover Point (pictured) until 2020? The nomination discussion and review may be seen at Template:Did you know nominations/Clover Point. You are welcome to check how many pageviews the nominated article or articles got while on the front page (here's how, Clover Point), and the hook may be added to the statistics page after its run on the Main Page has completed. Finally, if you know of an interesting fact from another recently created article, then please feel free to suggest it on the Did you know talk page.

Hello Clovermoss, I hope you're doing well. I assume moving the article from (season 5) to season 5 would be suitable as per naming convention and also taking into account the creation date and time of both articles. Thanks for your consideration. C1K98V (💬 ✒️ 📂) 04:35, 27 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Hi C1K98V. All I did on the first article was fix a formatting error, there's a reason I didn't review it. I had no idea that there were duplicate versions of the article (oddly enough, both of them were created on July 26). It's past midnight here so I think I'll sleep on this to decide what the best course of action is here. I've never done a history merge before and I'd want to make sure that that's what I should be doing and that I'm not messing things up if I go that route. Clovermoss🍀 (talk) 04:40, 27 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Hello, yes I know that you did formatting clean-up. And you're not messing things up here. As per this discussion RfC on TV season article titles, the correct naming standard is Bigg Boss Marathi season 5. Thanks, hope it helps. C1K98V (💬 ✒️ 📂) 04:49, 27 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
What I'm concerned about is messing up a history merge, not the proper article title. Clovermoss🍀 (talk) 04:50, 27 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I still haven't slept yet but I think I was overthinking it. The IP had the right idea with the redirect given there wasn't really any merge-worthy content. C1K98V, A10s don't apply when the page can be redirected [6]. Clovermoss🍀 (talk) 06:17, 27 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you for reviewing this article 🌟 Nayyn (talk) 16:56, 27 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

You're welcome. :) I noticed yesterday that there's a crazy backlog of unreviewed new pages so I've been trying to chip in. Clovermoss🍀 (talk) 16:58, 27 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Clovermoss moved page Joe Chambers (Museum Founder) to Joe Chambers (music producer)

[edit]

Clovermoss,

While Joe did work as a music producer approximately 7 yr, he was focused on guitar stores for almost 20 yr (1985 - 2004) and musicians hall of fame and museum (2003 - 2022).

because he worked much longer doing guitar stores and MHOFM, the short time he worked producing records is not appropriate for his career to be identified as "music producer"

Please undo this action. Thanks. MikeMARS MikeMARS52 (talk) 19:04, 27 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

@MikeMARS52: I reverted an undiscussed move, as my edit summary explains [7]. "Museum Founder" is not really a disambiguator used in article titles and music producer is fairly standard. If you wish for the article title to be changed to (Museum Founder), you need to gain consensus for that change. You can start a discussion about this by following the instructions at WP:PCM. Clovermoss🍀 (talk) 19:16, 27 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Before you consider doing that though, please consider reading WP:NCPDAB. I personally find it incredibly unlikely that your new proposed title would gain consensus and this page might help you understand the why behind that. Of course, you're still free to try if you disagree. Clovermoss🍀 (talk) 19:19, 27 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Due to the protected status of Talk: Yasuke, I am unable to make changes. Per Wikipedia:BLPREMOVE, this edit in the talk page seems to contain defamatory remarks regarding Thomas Lockley that are still present on the talk page and should be removed per my understanding of the policy, but I am unable to do so due to the protected status of the page. I used the recently active administrators feature and you were at the top of the list. I didn't really know what else to do in this situation other than to ask someone else to remove the libelous statement since I cannot do so myself. Cheers! Hi BrocadeRiverPoems. I've read that talk page comment and it seems fairly standard for an editor talking about a content dispute and not anything I'd be concerned about per WP:BLPREMOVE. Clovermoss🍀 (talk) 02:32, 29 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Also courtesy ping to BassHistory since they wrote the comment in question. Clovermoss🍀 (talk) 02:37, 29 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Rereading this, I'd suggest not including speculation on the motivations of the scholar in the latter half of that last sentence. However, I don't think this qualifies to the level where it's nessecary to redact it. Usually the stuff that's dealt that way per WP:BLPREMOVE are more serious accusations like "[person] committed a crime" or "[person] had an affair". Apart from that one nitpick, this really does just look like a regular content dispute. Clovermoss🍀 (talk) 02:57, 29 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I was mostly just concerned with the very end where they wrote is all of this just elaborate circular Wikipedia conjecture planted by Lockley to sell his books. The implication of a scheme to plant conjecture on Wikipedia in order to sell books seemed to run afoul of WP:LIBEL to me, was all. It's also demonstrably an untrue statement since you can look at the history of the page here and here and see that that Lockley did not originate the idea of Yasuke being a samurai on Wikipedia, nor did he add it which you can verify easily by looking at his Wikipedia history. I figured it was better to err on the side of caution and inform someone else. Thanks! Brocade River Poems 03:14, 29 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@BrocadeRiverPoems: I agree with you that it's not ideal. It's always best to be on the safe side and to ask if you're not sure of something, so no hard feelings. Feel free to come back here if you have further questions, I see that you're a new editor. Clovermoss🍀 (talk) 03:17, 29 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you! For the most part I've just been keeping to doing the newcomer tasks that Wikipedia keeps recommending to me. Brocade River Poems 03:42, 29 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

@BrocadeRiverPoems: Back in my day (2018) we didn't have the fancy newcomer tasks, but I started out taking a look at the Wikipedia:Community portal. I once enabled the new editor dashboard out of curiosity and I think it's an interesting step towards engagement. Hopefully it's been working out well for you. Wikipedia can be an interesting maze. When I was a new editor, it often felt like my edits were going into a void. Making connections with other Wikipedians helped lessen that feeling a bit. Anyways, if you have a thing for rabbit holes and want to spend hours reading about random Wikipedia stuff, User:Clovermoss/Meta has some interesting links (Wikipedia:Time Between Edits is a particular favourite of mine). I also really do mean what I said in that you can come back here if you have questions. Clovermoss🍀 (talk) 03:56, 29 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
