Welcome!

Hello, Carlsmith, Welcome to Wikipedia!
I hope you like working here and want to continue. If you need help on how to name new articles, look at Naming Conventions, and for help on formatting the pages visit the Manual of Style. If you need general help, look at Help and the FAQ, and if you can't find your answer there, check the Village pump (for Wikipedia related questions) or the Reference Desk (for general questions). There's still more help at the Tutorial and the Policy Library. Also, don't forget to visit the Community Portal — and if you have any more questions after that, feel free to post them on my New-Users' Talk Page.
Additional tips:
Here are some extra tips to help you get around Wikipedia:
  • If you want to play around with your new Wiki skills, try the Sandbox.
  • Click on the Edit button on a page, and look at how other editors did what they did.
  • You can sign your name using three tildes, like this: ~~~. If you use four, you can add a datestamp too. Always sign comments on Talk pages, never sign Articles.
  • You might want to add yourself to the New User Log
  • If your first language isn't English, try Wikipedia:Contributing to articles outside your native language
Happy editing!

Hi. I noticed you have edited some Hong Kong-related articles. You might be interested to take a look at HK wikipedians' notice board, HK Collaboration of the Week and Current events in Hong Kong and Macao. Happy editing! — Instantnood 17:20, Apr 12, 2005 (UTC)

Ne reverting

[edit]

Please no more reverting of the entry (i.e. HKALE) for the following reasons:

  • Raison detre has become a commonly used vocabulary in the English language (see Oxford Advanced Learner's English-Chinese Dictionary, Extended Fourth Edition). In the entry entirely written English, "raison detre" should be regarded as English which must go along with the article "the", intead of the Franch article "la".
  • Certain part of the article about the CLC exmaination comprehension test is meaningless. The grammar used in the article is not satisfactory, and the concept is rather confusion (e.g. what do you mean by "pouring of saliva").

First I would like to apologise for my unintented deletion of your work ([[HKALE]) without appropriate notifications. I don't mean it, to be frank, and don't realise it could be regarded as an act of vandalism in your book. Hope you can accept my apology with my deepest regrets.

Certain arguments were made as you wish. Please feel at ease to consider them, and, if neccessary, drop me a line so as to have further collaboration on editing. Not a single man wants to have nonsense debate and ridiculous attack, and I deeply believe that both of us have enough intelligence to avoid this.

Have a nice day. =)--Mcy jerry 09:07, 16 May 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Cheers

[edit]

So pleased to see that you have been so dedicted in further improvement. I must say that the controversy is "legally dead" to me! You may remove the dispute template next time, Carl. Again, please applause to our laborious contributor.

PS I did further edit your materials. Some footnotes were added, but yet in a mess somehow. Do you mind cleaning up that stuff for me? =) --Jerry Crimson Mann 15:11, 19 May 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Author data box format

[edit]

I've seen that you've changed the author data box of Christopher Woo's. In fact, I made the box following the format of that implemented in Jinyong's page. Recently, I've been trying to increase the number and unify the format of the data pages of Hong Kong writers, as Xi Xi's page has clearly exemplified. So if you determine to change the box format, please don't hesitate to alter the formats of all others data boxes; otherwise it's appropriate for you to retrieve the orginal format. Templates for the colours of MTR and KCR lines

[edit]

I guess it would be nice to have templates for the colours of the lines. What's your opinion? — Instantnood 05:36, Jun 10, 2005 (UTC)

In fact, I'm highly aprreciated the way you combine the station names and their coresponding livery. Bravo! =D -- Jerry Crimson Mann 06:01, 10 Jun 2005 (UTC)

A template for tables may be difficult, as they're rather complicated, with some cells spanning across a few rows. But templates for colours of the lines would definitely be helpful, relieving much of the trouble to type the long string like [[KCR East Rail|'''<font color=blue>KCR East Rail''']]. — Instantnood 06:55, Jun 10, 2005 (UTC)

Re: Name issue for KCRC Rail lines

[edit]

The KCRC brands its systems as "KCR East Rail", "KCR Ma On Shan Rail" and so on. In fact it was part of an earlier discussion with Mailer diablo and Juntung (well, quite long ago, gotta find out where it was done) to change the titles according to how they're branded by the company. The KCR and Kowloon-Canton Railway Corporation was also split accordingly.

I used both KCR West Rail and KCR West Rail, depends on whether a link to KCR is necessary.

For the titles of the articles on stations, there was an earlier discussion at the talk page of WP:HKWNB. — Instantnood 06:55, Jun 10, 2005 (UTC)

Pictures

[edit]

So appreciated that you've devoted to taking photos of MTR stations as well. :) Btw, the dimension of your photos are rather strange; the ratio of width to height is much smaller than normal. Why? -- Jerry Crimson Mann [17:08, 13 Jun 2005 (UTC)]

I think we should rearrange this impoartant article of Hong Kong. I see the USD page would be a good example to follow; there're some points which are highly appreciated, particularly those shipshape tables -- spic-and-span. I see you're an endeavourous HK wikipedian, and I hope you can help with the article of much significance! :-D -- Jerry Crimson Mann 06:58, 15 Jun 2005 (UTC)

Your Help is Needed!

[edit]

Hi Carl Smith!

So happy that we have our Hong Kong article promoted to be an WP:FAC, gaining an overwhelming popularity. I think it's not the time to cool down our ambition. The page flag of Hong Kong is now asking for your helping hand! I have greatly modelled it on flag of South Africa and flag of India, plus some brand-new illustrations added which is drawn by me with Flash, and the standard of the article has been greatly boosted, and, nearly, lived up to the feature article's standard. Still, some crucial information is absent, and that's whay your help is urgently needed!

What you can help

[edit]

The following information are still missing:

  • Symbolism, e.g. the meaning of the design, the bauhinia flower, the red-coloured background, etc.
  • History
  • Photos, e.g. Flag raising ceremony at Golden Bauhinia Square, Flags in parade, desecration cases (I think Long Hair have tried that before ;-P), etc.

Being an active and endeavourous wikipedian, you are now asked to collaborate on this project at full stretch — and to show your pride of being a HK wikipedian!

Yours sincerely, Jerry Crimson Mann 6 July 2005 15:21 (UTC)

Re:Siu Sai Wan

[edit]

Fine. I'll take a look on it later. :-D PS Yeah...I'm an HKAL candidate of 2005, and just have had got my results...how's yours? What's your first choice after all? :) -- Jerry Crimson Mann 8 July 2005 09:53 (UTC)

Anyway, take care. :-)

PS My results...ok la...overall, I've got 2 distinctions and 2 credits. I hope it can make my first choice come true. -- Jerry Crimson Mann 8 July 2005 10:19 (UTC)

Avoid auto-reverts

[edit]

Please try to show more respect to fellow editors than auto-reverting when there has been no previous discussion. Contesting the lead title is one thing, but simply reverting the entire edit smacks of reflex nay-saying, not reasonable doubt. This goes for both Hong Kong and pronunciation of Hong Kong. You need to show that you've actually read and understood the discussion and objections before upholding the status quo by claiming there is no consensus.

Kennedy Town Station

[edit]

A proposed deletion template has been added to the article Kennedy Town Station, suggesting that it be deleted according to the proposed deletion process. All contributions are appreciated, but this article may not satisfy Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and the deletion notice should explain why (see also "What Wikipedia is not" and Wikipedia's deletion policy). You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{dated prod}} notice, but please explain why you disagree with the proposed deletion in your edit summary or on its talk page. Also, please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Even though removing the deletion notice will prevent deletion through the proposed deletion process, the article may still be deleted if it matches any of the speedy deletion criteria or it can be sent to Articles for Deletion, where it may be deleted if consensus to delete is reached. If you agree with the deletion of the article, and you are the only person who has made substantial edits to the page, please add {{db-author}} to the top of Kennedy Town Station. Hello, this is a message from an automated bot. A tag has been placed on Category:Legends of China, by another Wikipedia user, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. The tag claims that it should be speedily deleted because Category:Legends of China has been empty for at least four days, and its only content has been links to parent categories. (CSD C1).

To contest the tagging and request that administrators wait before possibly deleting Category:Legends of China, please affix the template {{hangon}} to the page, and put a note on its talk page. If the article has already been deleted, see the advice and instructions at WP:WMD. Feel free to contact the bot operator if you have any questions about this or any problems with this bot, bearing in mind that this bot is only informing you of the nomination for speedy deletion; it does not perform any nominations or deletions itself.
