The Freedom Party is a major third party in the United States. Formed by Mark Pryor and a big tent of Republicans and Democrats alike, it quickly emerged as the largest third party in the United States of America since the Bull Moose Party. With a heavily populist message and a wide range of ideologies, the Freedom Party was able to unite what Pryor referred to as his own 'silent majority' of Americans.
The party's foundations can be traced to the early 2020s, after many voters voiced dissatisfaction with Republicans, especially then-President Vivek Ramaswamy and leading Democratic figures such as Robert F. Kennedy Jr. and similarly-minded progressives. Soon after Election Day 2022, Pryor announced the creation of the party and was soon joined by leading figures from both parties and a multitude of regions in the country. Pryor, who had run campaigns as an independent and a member of the Reform Party, built a strong coalition of fiscal liberals, anti-establishment populists, and social conservatives and ran for President in 2024.
The Pryor/James ticket, the first time the Freedom Party competed on the national scale, received just under 8% of the popular vote, the largest share of the vote since 1996, when Ross Perot received 8.4%. In New Hampshire, founding member Charlie Lovelace defeated Molly Kelly and Tom Woods to become the first Senator since the Progressive Era to serve under a nationwide third-party.
