My Mother's Fleabag, or Fleabag, is an improvisational theater group at Boston College in Chestnut Hill, MA, United States. Founded in 1980, My Mother's Fleabag is the oldest collegiate improv group in the country.[1][2]

History

[edit]

My Mother's Fleabag was founded in 1980 by Barry Armata, class of 1981, as a way to replicate Saturday Night Live on campus. Armata stated the group's name is meant to evoke a "Rundown fleabag motel on the Cape–the idea was that every room had a story."[3]

The group performs several times each year on campus including the annual Fall and Spring shows. Performances consist of a variety of short-form sketches organized in the form of “games,” which are different scenarios with their own rules and requirements the members follow. The group often experiments with various other improv styles and forms.[4]
