The BBC News (8:00pm Summary) is an evening update created by BBC News to target the professional and working market. It is broadcast every Daily on BBC One at around 8:00pm.

Like other BBC News bulletins it is presented by a sole newsreader, on Mondays to Thursday it is usually Ellie Crisell and on Fridays Riz Lateef.

History

[edit]

In May 2007 Natasha Kaplinsky and Suzanne Virdee began presenting the show as a trial in the Midlands. BBC News deemed it to be a success and it was announced it would begin in December 2007.

In November 2007 Natasha Kaplinsky left BBC News meaning Kate Silverton became the official launch presenter. In February 2008 Kate Silverton left the update to present BBC News at One and Ellie Crisell became the main presenter until she went on maternity leave in March 2008. During this time Sophie Long, Riz Lateef and Celina Hinchcliffe became the new presenters.

In April 2008 the show got a new logo and new graphics as part of the BBC News relaunch. In October 2008 Ellie Crisell returned to the update which was again deemed to be a success. Riz Lateef also became the new Friday presenter.

[edit]

In the regional updates there is a quick weather forecast which is read by regional presenters and usually looks at the next day ahead, it still uses the same graphics as the longer forecasts.
