Biography

[edit]

John Moods grew up in the south of Germany and moved to Berlin in 1994.

He is a founding member of the Berlin experimental pop band Fenster.[2]

He released his debut album “The Essential John Moods” in June 2018 with the Berlin label Mansions and Million.[3]. He wrote the album while on a hike through northern Spain.[4] Diviam Hoffmann from ByteFM called it one of the “Albums of the Year 2018”.

Since then he has played festivals in Germany and abroad such as SXSW[5] in Texas, Torstraßenfestival[6] in Berlin, Eurosonic Noorderslag[7] in Groningen and Waves Vienna[8]. He also went on tour with Sean Nicholas Savage as a live musician and supported Jonathan Bree on his European tour. In 2018 he was a guest at the London based internet radio NTS[9].

The following year he released the single “I Wanted You”, which was presented by the Diffus [10] magazine, Nothing But Hope und Passion [11], NEØLYD [12] and the British magazine Notion[13]. In 2019 John Moods went on tour with the Swiss musician Dagobert.[14]

In 2020, his music was played on various US TV series including HBO series High Maintenance [15] and High Fidelity[16] on Hulu.

Musical Style

[edit]

The music magazine Spex described his style as "AOR-Yacht Rock of the Eighties"[17], Musikexpress speaks of "wool-soft country observations to groove meditations over guitar surfaces"[18] and Intro described his music as "synth pop"[19]. ByteFM compares his music to "Californian soft rock and sunshine pop of the 1960s and 1970s".
