User Page Award
[edit]Thank you for your contributions throughout the putting together of this project. It's been 3 days, and this project has picked up faster than I ever expected :-D. A ton of fixed errors, formatting improvements, and bright ideas later it looks like the first ever UPA is on the path to success! I thank you again, but I do want to make one change to something you've done to the upawinner template.... [[Image:Esperanza.png|right|175px]] I'd like to change it to 120px again, other than that I loved the changes you made, and appreciate them very much. I've added more to the message as well courtesy of Titoxd. So be sure to check back and see the changes! Thanks. KnowledgeOfSelf | talk 21:44, 31 January 2006 (UTC)

My RFA
[edit]Hi Sango123/Archives/Feb 2006, thanks for participating in my RfA discussion. Unfortunately, my fellow Wikipedians have decided at this time that I am not suitable to take on this additional responsibility, as the RfA failed with a result of 66/27/5 (71.0% support). If you voted in support of my request, thank you! If you decided to oppose me at this time, then I hope that if I do choose to reapply in the future, the effort I will make in the meantime to improve and expand my contributions to Wikipedia may persuade you to reconsider your position. All the best, Proto t c 15:30, 2 February 2006 (UTC)
Hello Sango, just thought you could help
[edit]Since you're experienced, and, well, really nice, I thought I'd ask you for some help. What I'm going to try to do is create an article related to the elections of statewide government offices in Arizona, but I'm not sure how to go about it. I think it would be titled something along the lines of "Arizona statewide elections, 2006" and such. The problem being is that there is already an "Arizona gubernatorial elections, 2006" article (same with every other state) and I don't know if having the two would overlap too much. Another problem would be, that I think the article should focus solely on elections for Arizona, excluding the two US Senate seats that are elected statewide; a solution could be "Arizona executive branch elections, 2006," but that would leave out the Corporation Commission, which is elected statewide but is not as per the AZ Constitution a part of the executive branch. the final problem would be notifying other elections- and/or arizona- minded Wikipedians of the new article and probable series going back every four years, and probably expanding it to other states as well.
So um... you think you could help me? Thanks. --JMurphy 19:00, 2 February 2006 (UTC)

Do all these other pages count toward the page total?
[edit]Recently I've seen guideline pages, discussion pages, user pages, watchlist pages, history pages, template pages, and user talk pages. Do all of these count toward the 940000 English articles that Wikipedia currently has?
I'm so new I don't have much but questions, but hey, check out my improvements on the High Templar website!

[edit]Wow! Nice page! I've watchlisted it, and will do my best to answer any queries. I see you've used the self-same scenario as we gave to ViolinGirl, if you want to change it at all, then of course, feel free. It was rather hastily typed. Also, do we plan to meet on IRC with Gryffindor? Cheers (and nice work over at UPA!) Banez 10:36, 3 February 2006 (UTC)

- Woah, I am so confused. I was going to do that for Banes the other day, but it was kind of messing up, so didn't. Then, I see his request on Phae's page, and try again, and THINK it works. Then I look in the history, and you beat me. I am SOOOOO confused. :D [pause] Ok, I reverted back, I think that worked....whatever....The Point is: ignore me, this comment, etc......;)--ViolinGirl♪ 01:10, 4 February 2006 (UTC)

Another Esperanzial note...
[edit]Hi again Esperanzians! Well, since our last frolic in the realms of news, the Advisory Council has met twice more (see WP:ESP/ACM2 and WP:ESP/ACM3). As a result, the charter has been ammended twice (see here for details) and all of the shortcuts have been standardised (see the summary for more details). Also of note is the Valentines ball that will take place in the Esperanza IRC channel on the 14th of February (tomorrow). It will start at 6pm UTC and go on until everyone's had enough! I hope to see you all there! Also, the spamlist has been dissolved - all Esperanzians will now recieve this update "newsletter".
The other major notice I need to tell you about is the upcoming Esperanza Advisory Council Elections. These will take place from 12:00 UTC on February 20th to 11:59 UTC on February 27th. The official handing-over will take place the following day. Candidates are able to volunteer any time before the 20th, so long as they are already listed on the members list. Anyone currently listed on the memberlist can vote. In a change since last time, if you have already been a member of the leadership, you may run again. Due to the neutrality precident, I will not vote for anyone.
Yours, as ever, Esperanzially,

Edit summary
[edit]I just edited the Taizé page, deleting a large chuck, which you've "reverted". Didn't know I should explain the "why" of the edit --- although in fact the reason was *in the text* which I had inserted. Anyway, seems a good system. I'll now do it over again and explain this time! Paolo —Preceding unsigned comment added by 83.206.10.213 (talk • contribs) 21:31, 17 February 2006
Reverting vandalism
[edit]Is there a way to type in the Reverted edits by (USERNAME) to last verison by (USERNAME) any faster? Whenever I try to write that in the edit summary, I have to check the history remeber the usernames, go to the EDIT THIS PAGE button and fill in the edit summary. By then, someone else has already reverted the vandalism/spam/whatever. I've had to resort to writing rv vandalism in the edit summary for the time being. Is there a way to do it faster, like typing in something into the edit summary and it turns into something else (like userboxes or warnings?) Evan Robidoux 23:44, 17 February 2006 (UTC)

[edit]I got home today, and noticed that you'd saved my userpage not once, but twice. I just wanted to thank you and award you this Barnstar of Reversion barnstar. Uploading image help needed!
[edit]Hi Sango123, thanks for the welcome. I want upload an image (of a babylonian tablet) to Babylonian mathematics, the photo is here. I have e-mailed the copyright owner and he said I could put it up if I mentioned him and put a link the original image site. I assume that the Fair use template would be suitable, but this isn't an option on the upload image page. Selecting 'found the image somewhere' sounds a bit like 'I can't be bothered to do this properly', so could you advise me on the best course of action? Cheers, Bad_germ, 18 February 2006 10:30 (UTC)

Indira Gandhi
[edit]There are many outrageous articles which do not serve any purpose other than spreading hatred. Thus I felt necessary to remove those articles. I am not a supporter of any particular group. But if you are going to allow this in an unchecked manner, I am afraid, Wikipedia is not serving its purpose. Many articles on sensitive issues in India are completely based on assumptions and perceptions and not on facts. The references that appeared in those articles are not from any government report or a valid, acceptable source, but are opinions expressed by different people. You can't just quote one sentence from a book or an article of any person. It can be grossly misinterpreted. Anyway, if this is the case then wikipedia is clearly failing in its basic purpose, that is to become an encyclopaedia, and is just becoming a battleground for different people to air their fanatic, one-sided and untrue versions of events. and don't worry, I will not be editing anything on wikipedia, though I have contributed to it greatly so far. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 125.99.10.52 (talk • contribs) 19:05, 20 February 2006

Sword
[edit]Are you kidding me? The stuff I removed from sword WAS vandalism. The entry mentions a fellow named Periphero Chortos. Do a Google search on that one. The only hit is the entry itself. It also states that the so-called 'machaira' was basically a bronze bar with one sharpened end and functioned less as a bladed weapon than it was an edged bludgeon. That? THAT IS A JOKE SOMEONE PUT IN THERE. Areliux, a 'celtian chief'. Man, do I even have to debunk the existence of a 'celtian chief' named Areliux? According to the article you decided to revert, he invented THE SIMITAR.
How about Gustav Heinshreck, the inventor of the world's biggest sword. A sword that was twelve feet long and could only be wielded by two men? You honestly think that this should be in a factual article? That its removal is vandalism? Well, let's do a google search for Gustav Heinshreck. Unsurprisingly, it returns you the article itself and nothing else.
Toss in the fact that the person who added those 'facts' about swords is only responsible for one other major revision, which itself was reverted for vandalism. It was in fact such an audacious bit of revision it made Wikipedia's joke page. Good God, man. Just ... just good God.
It's kind of funny that you accuse me of vandalism for removing what was clearly originally vandalism. In fact, in my explanation of removing the vandalism, I SAY THAT IT IS BECAUSE I AM REMOVING VANDALISM. So you accuse me of vandalism and revert the article, adding vandalism back into it!
Edit: Since posting this, I've noticed that you are not, in fact, a man. I apologize. (Removed unnecessary invective.)
I expect an apology. 204.69.40.7 19:44, 20 February 2006 (UTC)
I'm sorry to involve you in this mess, but I tried contacting Peruvianllama about it, and his contributions show him as not being around here recently. Peruvianllama dealt with this problem the last time, and since I see through your contributions that you're active now, I thought I'd ask you for help.
User:PyterTaravitch was a troll account created by an unknown user. Evidence I cited in this edit [2] showed why I believed that the account was a sockpuppet of Chadbryant. Chad would go onto blank the page [3] and then add in his own accusations about whose sockpuppet the account was [4]. Peruvianllama then came along and posted a compromised version [5] which stayed in place for a whole 9 days before Chadbryant deleted the part that was against him [6].
Rather than get into a whole new edit war with Chadbryant, on User talk:Peruvianllama#Chadbryant's return I tried to bring the matter to Peruvianllama's attention, and in the middle of that Chadbryant showed up and threw out a personal attack [7]. He also made a personal attack against another user, User:TruthCrusader, on this page [8]. This isn't the first time Chadbryant has acted like this. His contributions showcase dozens, if not hundreds, of examples of personal attacks and trolling tactics.
If you could, please have a look at this and take any necessary actions that you see fit. Thanks. tv316 20:02, 20 February 2006 (UTC)

Hi, Sango123 - I have a problem on the Kaiser Permanente page, and I'm hoping I can call on you to help. FCYTravis, who is an admin, got another admin to protect the article right after he made major cuts. He ignored a request from Omsbudsman to develop the article instead of cutting it up, and he ignored my own offer on the talk page to address his sourcing concerns. FCYTravis has also been using words like "stupid" and "fuck" in his edit summaries, and it's possible he has an emotional investment in this since according to his info page he lives in an area where Kaiser is the dominant employer. Is there anything you can do to get this article unprotected?
I would also like to delete the Peer Review and NPOV templates. I've been told by TantalumTelluride that Peer Review is inappropriate for an unstable article. I've placed a request in the Delete Misc queue, but I'm not sure I formatted it right. I'd also like to remove the NPOV because it was placed there by a user who was trying to devalue everyone else's POV. He hasn't been back for several weeks. There are several POVs in play, but these should work out through the editing process. The label that's most appropriate right now is the Cleanup one, and perhaps an invite for formatting and sourcing help from more experienced Wikipedians.
I would appreciate any help you could offer in these regards. --Pansophia 09:31, 21 February 2006 (UTC)

Dispute on Lindsay Lohan article
[edit]I am now involved in a dispute over a reference to Punk'd that is occuring in reference to the Lindsay Lohan article. I feel that it is irrelevant content, but User:RadioKirk feels that it is relevant. However, instead of addressing my concerns, I feel that he is ignoring my suggestions and attempting to claim that I am antagonizing him (even though I feel like he is attempting to antagonize me). I would appreciate your insight and help on the issue, if possible. -- backburner001 21:52, 23 February 2006 (UTC)
Is Punk'd "irrelevant"?
[edit]I see backburner001 got here first...
This user says the Punk'd reference is irrelevant. I laid out the case for its relevance—with a rewrite for clarity—and he deleted it again. His response: "I did my part – I removed content I felt was not significant and I made suggestions for improvement when I was asked for them. If you are interested in working together to fix this problem, do your part and improve the Punk’d reference or give me a legitimate reason for keeping the reference that was in there before." (Essentially, "You think it should stay? Prove it to me and me alone," which sounds awfully close to self-appointed WikiGodhood, but I've been called dramatic already. More on point, "working together" to this editor means he deletes it, but someone else has to "fix" it.) This user's page includes as a goal, "[r]emove irrelevant/trivial content", but a quick look at his edit history is telling: on 30 January, he removed from WP:MOS a "reference to naming conventions for Mormonism"; on 19 February, he deleted "2 paragraphs" from Hiram College "to keep concise". Since then, every deletion of material has been a Punk'd reference, from Lindsay Lohan, Avril Lavigne, Jena Malone, Beyoncé Knowles, Mandy Moore, Chris Klein (actor) and Proof (rapper). After we blasted each other's antagonism (real or imagined), I threatened him with a WP:3RR war and mutual blocking, and backburner001 then agreed to stop removing the reference pending the discussion that results from my Request for Comment. No matter the outcome, your input would be very much appreciated. RadioKirk talk to me 21:24, 24 February 2006 (UTC)

[edit]I wouldn't be so angry about it if people would stop deleting every article I put in there, even though it is relevant to the game. One paragraph I put was about the controversy of the game and how different opinions were about the game. No. If I am not allowed to express my opinion, and other people's opinions, then they shouldn't be able to either. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 65.19.74.26 (talk • contribs) 21:25, 24 February 2006
?
[edit]I was just wondering, how did you make the "123" in your signature have the question mark cursor on it? I fished out 123 from it, but I'm not sure how to apply this to my own signature. --MasTer of Puppets Peek! 23:53, 24 February 2006 (UTC) P.S. And thanks again for letting me leech! I'll stop if you wish me to.
user etc... templates
[edit]Is there a list of all the "this user" options that can be placed on a user page such as the one shown below?
This user is male. |
I've figured out that they are called templates and are called up with the {{}} symbols but I just can't seem to find a list of them anywhere. -- Whane 00:25, 25 February 2006 (UTC)
- ref responce. I'm sorry, I didn't see your last responce on my first heading, I need to log off now but I will add a comment giving you full credit and thanks for explaining protocol. -- Whane 00:35, 25 February 2006 (UTC)
- Credit granted, I hope it's ample. :) -- Whane 21:42, 25 February 2006 (UTC)
Vandal at my talk page
[edit]Thanks for reverting 217.71.21.16's edit on my talk page. Would you go ahead and block him for block evasion. The block he's evading is a week long one. It's another one of those angry IP's just coming for revenge. :-D Moe ε 17:22, 25 February 2006 (UTC)
Re:Poem
[edit]Heh, glad you liked it (unless of course you are just being polite ;) ), it was a little random, being scribbled on a notepad while I was half-asleep. And might I take a moment to say your sig looks rather nice! Cheers Banez 17:55, 25 February 2006 (UTC)
Hey
[edit]Hope you don't mind if I take your archive table :) — Ilyanep (Talk) 22:32, 25 February 2006 (UTC)

Question about "biting newcomers"
[edit]Would it be considered biting a newcomer if I gave a warning ( {{subst:test1}} ) to a newcomer if they make unconstructive edits (e.g.: "I will kill you all!")? Evan Robidoux 00:29, 26 February 2006 (UTC)

A note from the Admin Coaching coordinator
[edit]Hello, coaches. As you can see, there is a significant backlog at the Esperanza Admin Coaching program. Since we do not want users to have to wait forever to get assigned, I'm asking all of you for a status report. If you feel that you are done, that your coachee is not active enough, or that you could handle the extra load from another coachee, please tell me in my talk page as soon as possible. Thanks! Titoxd(?!? - help us) 06:41, 26 February 2006 (UTC)
- Thanks. Since you and Banes are my elite squad (based on comments I've received from you so far :)) do you know if he would like to take someone else too? If he does, I'd like to keep you two together (unless you want otherwise). Titoxd(?!? - help us) 00:04, 27 February 2006 (UTC)
Thanks
[edit]Thanks for showing me the things to do on Wikipedia. It was great.

Thank you...

- Hi there. I'm taking a wikibreak, cutting myself off from the 'pedia for a while. However, I've called it "semi" because I still would like to work with you on AC. Can this work? If you could e-mail me when a new assignment is planned and I'll come back and work on it. If you don't think this will work (and my break may not even be that long anyhow) then thats fine..Cheers Banez 16:42, 27 February 2006 (UTC)

I hope you don't mind...
[edit]Sorry for not asking before I did it, but I went ahead and stole some of your templates. If I wasn't supposed to do this, please feel free to tell me, and I'll speedily remove them. --MasTer of Puppets Peek! 23:23, 27 February 2006 (UTC)
- Thanks, I'll be sure to put your name somewhere in big, shiny letters. And thanks, I thought that they might be too bright, so I hope that your eyes are still functioning well. --MasTer of Puppets Peek! 23:29, 27 February 2006 (UTC)
- Thanks :) I'm making a barnstar just for you, so don't go anywhere :P. I just have to figure out what license to use.
- Behold, the Welcomer's Barnstar! It isn't official, of course, as I'm not sure if I can submit it, or if anyone will want it. But anyway, here we go;
(P.S. It isn't the RAOK barnstar; I should define the hand more, I think. It's supposed to be a waving smiley face.) --MasTer of Puppets Peek! 00:08, 28 February 2006 (UTC)
Thanks for the kind words! I just wanted to help out on Wikipedia after seeing countless classmates bashing articles. But thanks for alerting me to that page, I'll drop in the award right now. --MasTer of Puppets Peek! 00:24, 28 February 2006 (UTC)

User page
[edit]I reverted your talk. The vandal seems to have stopped for now but was warned test4-n twice. I was going to report but lost connection for a few minutes but like I said user seems to have gotten the message. I will watch them but am having connection problems right now. Thanks. --Dakota ~ ° 21:57, 28 February 2006 (UTC)
