History

[edit]

Originally, project was named Tedora, and its author was Arkady «Tigro» Shain.[3]

But, November 20, 2008 the official project was founded, named Russian Fedora. Its founders were Fedora Project, Red Hat, VDEL and also VNIINS[4]. Project was prepared since March 2008, when Red Hat CEO Jim Whitehurst came to Moscow[5]. The creation of adapted Linux distribution for Russia is a part of FOSS extension program in Russia, which was discussed during Whitehurst's visit.

Project is developed in accordance of users needs and possibilities of its expansion in Russia. For example, it have to be considered that high speed Internet is not available everywhere. Also project team provides technical support at russian language, which simplify usage and learning of distribution. VNIINS became a technological center of Russian Fedora Project. It's planned to recruit students, postgraduates and young specialists of MEPhI.

New releases are planed to be released at the same time as Fedora ones.
