Interested in higher level programming languages: (Cobol in 1961, PL/I from 1964, the APL programming language from 1978-84). Member of British Standards Institution committee on programming languages 1970, chairman 1975-78. Interested in (mainly relational) database from 1970, member of UK and ISO committees on conceptual schema, 1978-81, and on database languages (responsible for standardisation of SQL) from 1986.
