Brasil vs Brazil
[edit]Hi, Thanks for the additions to Darius Milhaud! As to spelling, while Brasil seems to be more popular in French (and probably 'correct'), it appears the actual title is Saudades do Brazil. All the best, Sparafucil (talk) 23:46, 25 May 2008 (UTC)
Hello. This is just to explain that we normally put operas in a Category:Operas by XYZ see Category:Operas by composer which can then go in a Category: Compositions by XYZ. See for example Category:Operas by Adolphe Adam. It doesn't matter if the cat is small. Best wishes. --Kleinzach 08:19, 31 May 2008 (UTC)
- Thank you for the information. This is still a confusing area for me. I have to think very carefully in order to get things right -- it doesn't always work. Hrdinsky (talk) 23:27, 31 May 2008 (UTC)
Janáček
[edit]Hello Hrdinsky! You've done good work with Janáček list, it's useful and precise.. Sure I'll help you with other articles in time, I have some to-do plans with works of Pavel Haas and others. Thank you very much Vejvančický (talk) 07:09, 4 June 2008 (UTC)
Hello Hrdinsky!! (hrdinský = heroic in czech, it´s unusual and interesting, maybe you´re a descendant of the ancient Czech heroes??:))) I´m trying to add the precise facts, but some of my formulations are still "a bit" clumsy, I see. I hope, it´s not a big calamity for en wikipedia? I´ve fixed the formulation, your version preserves the meaning of the sentence. I think it´s better not to link to Příbram, it may be confusing - it´s not the exact place, where Dvořák wrote the cycle. Thanks for your valuable advice, I appreciate your cooperation (and also your work here) very much! Ještě jednou Vám děkuji. Vejvančický (talk) 07:40, 21 August 2008 (UTC)

[edit]You are welcome. It was easy, your lists are perfect.Vejvančický (talk) 16:29, 21 August 2008 (UTC)
No problem, you can write in Czech better, than many Czechs :)) Would you mind to look at Janáček's article? I've expanded it recently, and I'm sure it's a lot of imperfections in it. I'm trying to add more complex information to some underdeveloped articles, even though my English language skills are not perfect... and I appreciate any help with their stylistic improvement... Have a nice day! Vejvančický (talk) 17:32, 21 September 2008 (UTC)
- Vejvančický, your contributions are exceptional! I wish I could write in Czech as well! I have started to "clarify" some things on the Janáček page. In some sentences, the meaning gets lost because it is too long and wordy. Consider dividing sentences or eliminating unnecessary words. As I am no expert editor, please don't hesitate to revert any edit that is not what you intended. Hrdinsky (talk) 17:47, 26 September 2008 (UTC)
- Many thanks for your help, I want to add all important aspects to that article... It needs to expand the header, I intend to create the section "personality" (not easy to abstract the encyclopedic information! :)) etc. And maybe, in the future, try to nominate it as a good article. Your help is very important for me, since you are familiar with that topic, and you're also English speaker. Your edits don't change the meaning of anything, it's O.K. I appreciate that very much, thank you again! Have a nice day. Vejvančický (talk) 17:50, 30 September 2008 (UTC)
Hi again!
[edit]Hrdinsky, I've created this in my sandbox, and I would like to nominate it as a DYK article. Can you look there and skim the English? I hope I don't bother you with this... And by the way, is it appropriate for nomination? What do you think? Thanks. Have a nice day. --Vejvančický (talk) 21:24, 14 October 2008 (UTC)
- It was very fast, thank you. I´ve reworked the unintelligible passage, I hope it is better now... Přeji pěkný den! --Vejvančický (talk) 11:37, 15 October 2008 (UTC)

- Hi Hrdinsky! I've something new here. It's almost complete, I only need to finish the list of compositions. Would you mind to look there and check my confusional "Czenglish"? Pokud budete mít čas, ovšem. :)) Thanks --Vejvančický (talk) 21:37, 4 November 2008 (UTC)
- Fixed. The article is in the mainspace now. You can check it. By the way:

- I didn't found any photos, I saw some old pictures of the Czech Philharmonic, but I can't remember where. I have to search in a huge pile of books, magazines, and it's sometimes very difficult to remember. And I don't know yet, if Čelanský was present there... Similar situation is with his compositions, the most detailed info I've found is in my source - old Czech music dictionary, which I've bought just few days ago for amazing prize. The article is almost complete translation. I can't find more, at least for the present. --Vejvančický (talk) 15:40, 6 November 2008 (UTC)
- Yes, it's possible, but I'm not 100% sure. All the photos there have an identical title. I have to find this magazine, I have it somewhere. It should be easy. Good tip. Btw, I see, you are completely heroic now! (Just joke:-))) --Vejvančický (talk) 21:33, 6 November 2008 (UTC)
Ktož jsú boží bojovníci
[edit]Yes, I know this war-song since my childhood. The proper variant in old Czech language is Ktož jsú boží bojovníci. Kdo jsou boží bojovníci or Kdož jsou boží bojovníci are the modern versions, rather strange in my opinion. The version in the Smetana´s symphonic poem Tábor was wrong, I´ve fixed it. --Vejvančický (talk) 12:41, 7 November 2008 (UTC)
To Čelanský: I found the issue of Harmonie 9/2007, all the photos are there with proper titles, except one - exactly the one, which may be his portrait!! I´ll try to write them and ask. --Vejvančický (talk) 12:41, 7 November 2008 (UTC)
Drdla
[edit]Huh, thank you for noticing me. I still have some gaps in my written English. Unfortunately, my source says only: Drdla toured throughout Europe (1899-1905) and the United States (1923-1925). No more informations about his other activities. No specific concerts. My source is trustworthy, but also very laconic. The error is in my translation. A similar situation is with your second objection. Czech original says: "Obdržel titul profesora od rakouského prezidenta (1927)". Anything more. Sorry for my heavy-footed translation, feel free to "undo" it. Btw, Československý hudební slovník is the most detailed source on Czech music till 1960, it's very useful in my opinion. Thank you. --Vejvančický (talk) 09:58, 10 November 2008 (UTC)

František Škroup
[edit]Hi Hrdinský. The Czech titles are O.K. Czech language in 19th century was quite different from current version. It was influenced by German language. E.g. the piano reduction of the first Czech opera Dráteník (I own the version publ. in 1926) bears the title: Drátenjk. Zpěwohra we dwau děgstwích od Josefa Chmelenského. They often used a instead of o, j instead of i, g instead of j etc. etc. I´m not linguistic expert, but Czech sources today often use the modern versions - Dobrou noc, Dráteník. I know, it´s a bit confused - we write Ktož jsú boží bojovníci almost always in the archaic shape, but it´s a household title. I think, it´s better to use the modern version in this instance.
Drahomíra was a Bohemian duchess, and it´s also ancient Slavic woman´s name (occasionally used up to now, at least in the Czech Republic). I hate to admit it, but it´s impossible for me to translate it into English. It´s not easy to decode even the Czech version! (I think, it´s connection of the words precious and peace). Try en.wiktionary.org. Thanks for your notice. Have a nice day. Vejvančický (talk) 13:08, 21 November 2008 (UTC)
Thanks and...
[edit]Hello Hrdinský. Thank you for nice patriotic barnstar. I have a medal now, like old soldiers :))) (I'm just joking) I really appreciate it, thanks again. I have something new in my sandbox, and I would like to ask for your opinion, since you are my best collaborator here. The topic is somewhat different... I have to admit, it's unpleasant, almost disgusting and very controversial theme, but I haven't found on Internet any English information about it - excluding short notice on the page of Security Information Service of Czech Republic. However, I consider that theme very important for recent Czech history, and I hope, that it may be informative also for non-Czech readers. There's a lot of informations in Czech press, many speculations, it's hard to choose and compile accurate and good info... I've created something, it's just a concept, sketch. (Probably full of my usual stupid "Czenglish" mistakes). Feel free to edit and fix it, and please, let me know, what do you think about that. It's possible, that I'll delete it, but previously I would like to hear some opinions. If you don't want to read it, or to deal with it, I understand. It's not music or culture and I myself don't intend to create similar articles in future. I just think, this is important... Have a nice day --Vejvančický (talk) 15:22, 22 November 2008 (UTC)
- Hello again. Thank you for your patience, interest and help. It's invaluable for me.
- 1. I've replaced "speculated", but I still think, that's the right word. It's quite common in Czech language, although a bit pejorative. But you are probably right, "dealings" will be more intelligible for English readers. Mrázek himself stated: "I was a speculator" - it's in the first part of Kmotr Mrázek.
- 2. Rewritten, is it better now? He tried - together with partners - to take the opportunity offered by chaotic situation in starting Czech economic transformation, and "to launder the dirty money" from previous times.
- 3. Uff, it's not easy... the value is now more than 40 millions in US dollars (I think), but the situation was different ten or fifteen years ago...
- 4. It was really big robbery - billions stolen without any trace. I've found also other cases called similarly (in Czech: Podvod století), but it's not so important for the article. It's just the cliché in the newspaper, I think. (Btw, isn't "robbery" better word??)
- 5. Rewritten, splitted.
- 6. You are right. I've added some substantive facts. The circumstances of his death are unclear... At least for me...
- 7. I've expanded it. The title may be Post-death. (Or Further investigation??)
Díky a mějte se fajn. --Vejvančický (talk) 13:15, 23 November 2008 (UTC)
- Thanks, I make still the same mistakes... I think, that the basic information is included in it, and I can put it to the mainspace... DYK? Any suggestions? --Vejvančický (talk) 17:36, 23 November 2008 (UTC)
- Two years ago, when Mrázek was still alive, it was very dangerous to publish any informations about him. He was watchful and tried to intimidate also journalists. I´m not paranoiac :)) However, many people close to Mrázek died, and his influence is still apparent in Czech politics. We aren´t on the Wild West (or East) here, but we have also another mafia boss - Radovan Krejčíř. Still alive, a fugitive from justice (justice?). He is really interesting and well-known person in Czech republic, his life reminds me of Sandokan or other exotic heroes from my childhood. He kept sharks at home (one, called "Radovan" is today an attraction in one of the restaurants in Prague), and when Czech police came to arrest him, he escaped through the window on toilet :)) No kidding. His father was killed, and speculations exist, that he was murdered by people close to Mrázek... Interesting topic, I guess. Here is the article on Czech wikipedia. Hana Hegerová
[edit]Hello Hrdinský. This is really impressive and perfectly translated article. I added something and I'll try to find more interesting informations - the official page is very laconic. I love If a Thousand Clarinets - the film is stupid, but the music... Many fantastic jazz players and singers - Karel Krautgartner, Jiří Jelínek, Karel Vlach, Waldemar Matuška... - it's encyclopedia of Czech "pop-jazz". I also intend to create the article for Jiří Šlitr, a genius of Czech jazz. A lot of work. Btw, I think, it's better not to title people in articles on wikipedia with a given names. Thanks. Have a nice day. --Vejvančický (talk) 09:58, 28 November 2008 (UTC)
DYK for František Mrázek
[edit]BorgQueen (talk) 00:31, 30 November 2008 (UTC)
Hello Hrdinský. Thanks for your help and important notes. I think, the second Dvořák's trio hasn't stable title. All titles, which I've used, are in my sources - in the score, in the study on Dvořák's chamber works by Šourek, and in the sleeve notes of CDs. All my sources reffer of course to Miniatures, Op. 75a, the translation was maybe confusing. It's possible to unite it, and make that thing more clear. You are right with the key signatures - it was my oversight, the trio and the version for violin and piano are almost identical, and the key signature is of course B flat major in both cases. I'll check and fix it. It's also possible to replace "Trio" with "Terzetto", Terzetto seems to me more Italian than English. I was inspired by the good recording of first two movements of Romantic Pieces here on wikipedia. I like more the version for trio... Thanks for your time and cooperation, it's great, as usually. --Vejvančický (talk) 21:35, 30 November 2008 (UTC)

Traditional Folk Music in Moravia
[edit]Hello Hrdinský. I´m currently working on this, would you mind to look there and fix some of my English? It´s a broad ethnographical and musicological topic, non-existent on Wikipedia... It isn´t the classical music, again. Ask whatever you wish, I´ll try to explain it. Thank you, have a nice day. --Vejvančický (talk) 16:58, 17 January 2009 (UTC)
- That´s great! I´ll upload a good map of Moravian ethnographical regions soon, and I´m trying to get also some recordings from Jiří Plocek - an expert on folk music. (I´ve got some recordings - I´ve played in a cimbalom band few years - but the sound quality isn´t sufficient for Wikipedia) I can´t believe, that you know Hrbáč! I think, that´s the best and maybe the most representative music of Moravia. My collection of CDs with the folk music of my homeland is big, but I don´t know any Okinawan music, unfortunately... Thanks for your time and help. I ´ll continue... --Vejvančický (talk) 07:45, 18 January 2009 (UTC)

Moravian Duets
[edit]Hello Hrdinský! I'm working again. Would you mind to check it? It's not the 40K article today :)) I'll finish it during this weekend, I hope. I guess, that you know that cycle, but if not, you can listen here. Thanks ...and ask whatever, as always. --Vejvančický (talk) 11:57, 20 February 2009 (UTC)
- First of all I have to thank you again :)) Your help was great, as always. As for old English, the titles are official English translations, added from the score. I´m not able to translate perfectly, you know. The rest was my translation and compilation, and that wasn´t so "poetic" :) I´m not entirely satisfied with the numeration of individual songs. It has changed many times in the past, and it is confusing even in the score! However, I´m sure, that I´ve integrated all songs with all possible titles and Nos. in the correct order. Have a nice day, Hrdinský! --Vejvančický (talk) 16:03, 24 February 2009 (UTC)

- No problem Hrdinský, you've done a lot of work there... I've noted your copyediting of my latest additions to Mrázek's case - great, thanks. You can also check the photo of Čelanský, which I finally found. Another interesting facts on Čelanský are described also here. I'm currently working on Leoš Janáček again, together with good editor User:Haploidavey, and we're looking for another editor and an independent view. Would you mind to provide us your opinion on that article? Our discussion related to the problems of that article is concentrated here and here. If you don't want to deal with it, no problem, I understand, you have your own work here. I just want to ask. I'm able to clarify the factual part, we have some problems with the style and readability of that article. Any suggestions or thoughts are always welcome. Have a good day. --Vejvančický (talk) 11:19, 6 March 2009 (UTC)
Heinrich XXIV, Prince of Reuss-Köstritz
[edit]Hello Hrdinský. Your translation seems to be correct. I've compared both versions (with my very poor knowledge of German language), and I can't see any confusion. It is surely possible to use that photo, since we don't have any other portrait of Heinrich XXIV, but I'm not sure with the license. We can either try to obtain a permission from www.coinarchives.com, or upload the image as {{Non-free currency}}, as in 30px|this case. The latter way may be problematic, though. Some editors at the WP Composers are very strongly opposing use of coins in music articles, here is the guideline. The photo is relevant and useful in this case, and I can help you to ask for permission and upload it on commons. --Vejvančický (talk) 11:46, 9 March 2009 (UTC)
At your request, I've had a look over it, and it didn't need much except for some very light tinkering. Good work, Hrdinský. I maintain a list of works that were once famous but have fallen by the wayside, and composers who were once highly regarded but have fallen into obscurity. I'll certainly be adding Heinrich XXIV, Prince of Reuss-Köstritz and his String Sextet No. 2 in B minor to the list. Cheers. -- JackofOz (talk) 03:08, 10 March 2009 (UTC)
John McEwen
[edit]Done. We now have John McEwen (disambiguation), with links to that page on all the articles you identified.
I took the opportunity to do a little light tinkering with the composer's page, which meant doing some reading about him. He sounds well worth getting to know, so I'll keep an ear out. Thanks. -- JackofOz (talk) 21:29, 23 March 2009 (UTC)

Ernest Walker
[edit]Hi, Hrdinský. I used that document as one of my sources for the article, but I used Grove V for the details of the works I mentioned. I think a list like yours is very useful. I'm away from home right now and can't check any of the details. I'll be back later today and will be able to do so then. In the meantime, I don't see a problem with adding your list to the article. Well done.
Did your interest in Ernest Walker come from reading the article I created, or were you aware of him previously? Me, I'd only very vaguely heard the name, but knew nothing about him. I wrote Works associated with Paul Wittgenstein last week, and he's on the list as someone who wrote 3 works for Wittgenstein, so I decided to do some research and discovered he was worth an article. -- JackofOz (talk) 21:36, 11 April 2009 (UTC)
- Hello JackofOz: I only know Ernest Walker because of his compositions for viola. I noticed his article had been written from my list of composers. I am very busy for the next few days, but want to review data/dates again and see if I can make a better product. I really enjoyed the article by the way. Good work! [edit]The name of his second wife was Bettina (Barbora) Ferdinandiová (10 November 1840, Černé Budy na Sázavě - 14 December 1908, Luhačovice). Smetana married her on 10 July, 1860. She bore him two daughters: Zdeňka Smetanová (married Heydušková) (25 September, 1861 - 4 October 1936, Luhačovice), and Božena Smetanová (married Grafová) (19 February 1863 - 12 December 1941, Vienna). His second marriage seems to be happier. Thanks for your help, it is much clearer now. --Vejvančický (talk) 06:41, 9 May 2009 (UTC)
Copy-and-paste move
[edit]Please don't move pages using copy-and-paste, as you did moving David Epstein to David Epstein (mathematician). - Zdravím znovu. Děkuji mockrát za Vaši pomoc a zájem, velmi si Vaší spolupráce vážím. The Czech background: Ryba used for his mass standard parts of Latin mass, but he created his own text, depicting Czech surrounding and atmosphere, it is like Bethlehem being moved to the middle of Czech lands. In my opinion, this is the main reason of the ongoing popularity of this work: the similarity with idealized world depicted in Czech wooden Bethlehems, reminding the idyllic atmosphere of Christmas in the middle Europe.
- The recording mentioned by you is already listed in the article, the only difference is the English title on the title page. It is one of the best recordings of the Czech Christmas Mass, with great Josef Veselka as choirmaster.--Vejvančický (talk) 18:35, 21 December 2009 (UTC)
- Thank you again. The article looks better now, I hope it contains all important elements. Yes, I nominated it for December 25 as a relevant topic for the Christmas main page, I'll let you know how this turned out. Btw, you can find many performances of Czech Christmas Mass on Youtube, the mass is performed in many places and churches in my country. Here is the opening and final part of the recording mentioned above. Superb, in my opinion. --Vejvančický (talk) 10:41, 22 December 2009 (UTC)

[edit]Hello Hrdinský. I'm not familiar with his compositions, but I remember I once checked the strange circumstances of his death with Czech sources. An interesting article, you are right. I'll try to translate it and add the list of compositions during weekend. Thanks for letting me know. Have a good day. --Vejvančický (talk) 09:43, 7 January 2010 (UTC)
- Hello again. See , it's a basic translation of the article here, with a poor list of compositions. He was apparently better known as an unsuccessful pioneer of erotic asphyxiation. One interesting thing: in the Československý hudební slovník Kočvara is presented as a violist, not a double bassist. --Vejvančický (talk) 15:14, 8 January 2010 (UTC)
- Great work with the list of works, Hrdinský! Thanks for this, I found it very useful. I work with sheet music and Wikipedia is usually (not always!) a great searching tool. I've translated the list for Czech Wiki. --Vejvančický (talk) 10:38, 9 January 2010 (UTC)

Several categories related to music competition winners are being targetted, and I think it would be useful that you give your opinion regarding the neccesity (or not) of these categories and maybe later help proposing changes to the present guidelines (music awards and prizes). Kacinskas
[edit]I moved the list of works to talk page for two reasons:
- It is extremely long. Such a huge list on a tiny stub article...
- It is totally unsourced. I picked a couple works & Googled them without much success. At that point "better safe than sorry" took over. Since the list obviously very useful, I did not delete it outright, I placed it on talk if someone cared to investigate.

Jiří Hudec
[edit]Hello Hrdinský. Hudec seems to be less known person in the context of Czech music, I didn't find his entry in major Czech music dictionaries (I didn't check everything yet). However, he has a list of works at the website of the Czech Music Fund, and I found his Czech profile in the notes section (No. 27) of a thesis created by a student of the Department of Musicology of the Masaryk University Brno. I consider this as a reliable source, but I'm not sure if this composer meets notability criteria here on Wikipedia. I'm quite familiar with musical life and past of Brno, but this is an unknown name for me. Thanks for bringing this to my attention. --Vejvančický (talk) 09:21, 12 February 2010 (UTC)

List of compositions for viola F-K and H. J. Foss
[edit]Would you be willing to check your source for your entry on Hubert James Foss? I have been doing a research project on Foss, and all my available sources show that "Three Airs for Two Players" was written by Foss and published by Oxford for violin, not viola, with piano accompaniment. I know of no reason why the music could not be played on the viola - the music was intended to be easy enough for young violinists and pianists and they're in range (although written in G-clef) - but they were not intended for viola. Should the music be included on a list whose primary purpose is to identify music intended for viola? Thank you. Originalylem (talk) 14:22, 31 March 2010 (UTC)
- Thanks for your reply: I will go ahead and remove that entry. Originalylem (talk) 11:21, 2 April 2010 (UTC)

List of compositions by Mikhail Glinka
[edit]Hey, Hrdinský. Well, you've done a great job as far as I can tell. I found exactly 1 definite Russian spelling error, and one other that you could easily get away with (трёх vs. трех). I made a few other minor tweakettes, but consider them specks of dust on an otherwise brilliant jewel. The most consistent "error", if we can use that term, is italicising standard titles such as Mazurka, Serenade, and so on. Normally we italicise true titles, for example, Mazurka brillante, but not Mazurka in G minor. And so on. Cheers. -- Jack of Oz ... speak! ... 20:31, 15 May 2010 (UTC)
Photo of Josef Suk
[edit]Excellent choice, Hrdinský! I can't imagine a better place for this image. Young Suk dedicated the portrait to his beloved woman. She died very young and he dedicated the composition to her memory. Do you know the symphony? Hi. Thanks for adding the diacritics to the singers on the recording. I just cut and pasted it from somewhere without thinking. If you have a moment, could you see whether I've got the right diacritics in the right places in the Roles table - the Wexford programme, which I'm using, is a little unreliable, e.g. Winkler instead of Winckler. Also, I managed to dredge up the name of the conductor and three singers from the PDF document (? a Ph D thesis?) which I referenced. As my knowledge of Czech is close to zero, give or take a few words from Czech operas ("S podmínkou" = "But on one condition"), I hope I've got those right. Do you know of a source for any more role-creators other than those three? I couldn't see anything very obvious elsewhere in that document. Any other comments or amendments welcome! I hope to add the synopsis in the next 24 hours. Best. --GuillaumeTell 21:24, 21 October 2010 (UTC)
- Hello Hrdinský. I can't open the PFD from where I am, my browser gets stuck and my work is lost :( I'll look at it later, from another computer. I added some missing facts from a book about the composer (a gift from his daughter, former wife of Milan Kundera). Thanks for letting me know. --Vejvančický (talk | contribs) 12:59, 22 October 2010 (UTC)
- Just a note to say thanks to both of you for your help. I thought that Alexandra Čvanová deserved an entry, so ... Alexandra Čvanová. List of Pipe Organ Stops
[edit]Hello, Hrdinský. First of all, thank you for your civility. The sole reason I reverted the page is that I honestly felt the original format was much easier to read. I myself find the rastered structure you added clumsy and annoying to read. That is the honest reason. It looks "neater", but I just didn't think it was necessary or particularly helpful. I do believe your intentions were the best, but you asked why I reverted it, and that's why I did it. Melos Antropon (talk) 05:41, 23 January 2011 (UTC)
Ladislav Černý and Prague Quartet
[edit]Hello Hrdinský. I haven't much to add to your good entry on Ladislav Černý, the article says basically the same things as the old entry in Československý hudební slovník (1965). I've expanded the information on the origins and achievements of the Prague Quartet, please check the article again. Czechs (and particularly Václav Talich) were closely tied with the Slovene musical life in the first decades of the 20th century. --Vejvančický (talk | contribs) 10:58, 26 January 2011 (UTC)
- The only information that I found: ...due to the deteriorating mobility of his legs, Černý gradually moved the teaching into his apartment (after 1958). His flat became a place of important artistic meetings. (Český hudební slovník osob a institucí). I'll try to find out more. --Vejvančický (talk | contribs) 09:53, 27 January 2011 (UTC)

Hello Hrdinský. I attempted to expand this article. The information is not complete or perfect, but I hope my addition is helpful. Please, check out the grammar/spelling and ask me for clarification if needed. I have not much to add to Theodor Schaefer, the article says basically the same as his entry in Czechoslovak Music Dictionary. The list of works is detailed and correct (your usual standard class :). Good work, thank you. Btw, I noticed that you called Janáček a Moravian composer, and I'm not sure whether you have noticed a recent discussion at Janáček's talk page. I have no problem with calling him a "Moravian" (because he was a "Moravian"), however, it seems that Janáček considered himself a Czech composer, as well as consider him the most authoritative sources of the Czech and world musicology. A few days ago I met Prof. Miloš Štědroň (a foremost Czech/Moravian expert on Janáček and his works) and I asked him for his opinion on the Czech/Moravian question. In a long and interesting "lecture", he explained that during Janáček's life the Czech vs. Moravian nationality or self-determination was not so important, as the young Czechoslovak state fought to define its identity under the German influence. To me it seems that the whole Czech/Moravian rivalry started with a big intensity after the Velvet Revolution and following the dissolution of Czechoslovakia. The Moravian movement was really strong in the early 1990s, and today is weaken. However, some of my good Moravian compatriots still feel oppressed by the evil Czechs (personified mainly by the inhabitants of Prague) and they need to fight for their nation on all fronts. Janáček, one of the most important and famous Moravians, is a good target for their efforts. I explained my opinion at Janáček's talk page. --Vejvančický (talk | contribs) 08:22, 16 May 2011 (UTC)
Blendinger
[edit]Thanks for the work on the works! Will nominate you as co-author for DYK, --Gerda Arendt (talk) 15:50, 28 August 2011 (UTC)
- Thanks for more work on more works. I have a question regarding the translation of titles. So far I understood (from the Bach cantatas) that if the translation of a title is also a title, like in famous operas, it's treated as such, italic and capitalized. If it's only a translation helping to understand, it's not italic and not capitalized. To my knowledge all of Blendinger's works (like the Bach cantatas) are of that kind, - but I'm learning, looking for an answer here, --Gerda Arendt (talk) 07:10, 29 August 2011 (UTC)
- Thanks for answering. As for the Bach cantatas, as Bach didn't give them titles, they go by what happens to be the first line of the text. This is rendered italic because it's kind of a title after all. It is not capitalized any different because German doesn't do that. But the project agreed that a translation to English (and there is always more than one) should not be treated like a title, no italic, no capitalization. Now I wonder about things like "song cycle" versus "Song Cycle", but am not fanatic about it, just wanted to learn. And did, thanks, --Gerda Arendt (talk) 16:17, 29 August 2011 (UTC)
- Thanks for another extended works list! Same procedure, I named you as co-author. Next: his son, Mozart Changes, smile, --Gerda Arendt (talk) 12:11, 1 September 2011 (UTC)
- Thanks for correcting, we can't help if the published score is a lousy translation, "an den Ölberg" is "to the Mount", and I can't see Jesus and his disciples walking "on the Mount" once they reached it in distress. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 12:38, 1 September 2011 (UTC)

Moving improper
[edit]Since there is no other person as Renato Dionisi, it is useless to create an artcle disambiguation. If you want to move it to an athlete, you must first create the article of that other character and then, but only if the most important, creating the disambiguation. --Kasper2006 (talk) 14:28, 25 June 2012 (UTC)

Swan Hennessy
[edit]Thank you for your work on Swan Hennessy. I have done some research on him, too, that I will incorporate at some point, already did a little today. I would like to change one thing, if you agree. I find the long table of works helpful in terms of content, but very awkward in terms of the space it needs. Most composers articles feature work-lists as a simple list, subdivided by genre. The genre division makes a column for instrumentation unnecessary, for instance. And I agree with the writer of the note above on Rebecca Clarke that information on publishers is essential for both musicologists and musicians. That is missing in your table. So please let me revise the work-list to make it shorter, at the same time containing more info, and readable on mobile devices as well.Aklein62 (talk) 11:49, 20 January 2015 (UTC)
- Hello again, Hrdinský. One and half years on from my last message, I have done a real lot more original research on this composer, and have begun writing a biography in book-form. You originally created this WP article in March 2014, including the list of works. I have many more details now for this list, which I will incorporate in the WP article in due course. [edit]Saint-Saens Op.62
[edit]Hello! You reverted my correction of the key of the Saint-Saens Morceau de concert, op.62. Every CD of this I've ever seen describes it as in G major. Can you please check this again. Thank you and best wishes. --188.30.128.44 (talk) 22:06, 20 April 2020 (UTC)
- I have seen it listed as "in G major" as well. A quick check of Saint-Saëns' score reveals that the key is E minor.
- The first note of the piece is E, the second is D-sharp (the leading tone of E minor). Although the opening Largamente is harmonically ambiguous, the first cadence in E minor is bar 10 of the Allegro section. Bar 48 cadences in B major, the dominant of E minor. The first G major chord (not in root position) is in bar 60 at Lusingando poco rubato. The secondary them at bar 96 is in G major, but 22 bars later, Saint-Saëns has returned to E minor. He plays around with the relative major several times as he develops the themes. A dominant cadence (B major) at bar 230 leads us to a key change to E major with the secondary theme and closing section in the parallel major. Best regards, Hrdinský 〒 23:42, 20 April 2020 (UTC)

[edit]Help requested on Czech pianist/composer at draft: Draft:Václav Krahulík
[edit]Hello Hrdinský -- Gerda Arendt suggested that you might be able to help out an article stuck in draft on a Czech pianist/composer Draft:Václav Krahulík. It looks as if it is a translation of the Czech Wikipedia [1] and has a single Czech-language source which might well cover most of it, but might not be reliable. Thanks in advance for any assistance you can give! Regards, Espresso Addict (talk) 09:50, 20 January 2021 (UTC)

List of compositions for viola F-H: Kenneth Harding
[edit]Dear Hrdinský, Thank you for your great articles and contributions. Would it be possible to amend one of the entries in Kenneth Harding's list of compositions? There is no work titled 'Green Apples' by Kenneth Harding. The confusion originated when Frank Stiles (violist/composer) titled Moonlit Apples wrongly as Green Apples. This was picked up by The Seventh Catalogue of Contemporary Welsh Music, compiled by Robert Smith : The Guild for the Promotion of Welsh Music (1981). Further, Moonlit Apples is listed in Philip Clark's catalogue (Welsh Music 1, no. 6 (1991): 17–18) as having been composed in 1985, but the manuscript bears the date of March 1979. Finally, the Wikipedia entry further confuses the issue by listing both Moonlit Apples (supplying Clark's incorrect dating of 1985) and the fictitious work, Green Apples, with a date of 1979. So, in essence, would it be possible to remove the Green Apples entry and re-date the Moonlit Apples (named after John Drinkwater's poem of the same name) as 1979. Many thanks. Speedy deletion nomination of Ketil Hvoslef
[edit]If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.
You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.
A tag has been placed on Ketil Hvoslef requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G12 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the page appears to be an unambiguous copyright infringement.
