MfD nomination
[edit]Hello Icewedge. I responded to your MfD nomination at Wikipedia:Miscellany for deletion/Wikipedia:Articles for creation/Archive header. As I explain there, the nominated page is in fact used, and the nomination is rather inconvenient. I wondered whether you would consider withdrawing the nomination so that the MfD template can be removed. Cheers, Jitse Niesen (talk) 11:06, 16 July 2008 (UTC)
Marble (the town)
[edit]Why is worth keeping Marble (the town) as a redirect rather than having it deleted? It does not seem like a worthwhile redirect to me. Cheers. -- Alan Liefting (talk) - 01:46, 19 July 2008 (UTC)
- True, but redirects are cheap and while no one is probably going to type Marble (the town) into the search box it could help for certain query's. Mostly I was just saving the admin backlog from undue stress. - Icewedge (talk) 01:53, 19 July 2008 (UTC)
Closing an Afd
[edit]Thanks for showing me the link where a non-admin can do that. If I encounter another Afd where it's okay for non-admin to do that, I will instead of leaving a note. Again, thanks. Edward321 (talk) 03:02, 19 July 2008 (UTC)
And the difference between Miles per hour would be? Lets see what happens to the article, it might be worth keeping. Thanks dm (talk) 02:48, 21 July 2008 (UTC)
- I see someone has contested the prod, I still don't think such articles are necessary but I guess you have a point. - Icewedge (talk) 17:59, 21 July 2008 (UTC)
Why did you revert my edit? XxJoshuaxX (talk) 15:44, 21 July 2008 (UTC)
- Sorry about that, it was a mistake. The weird thing is I do not actually remember making that revert. I do remember there was an WP:AN thread on you and I checked your contribs but I don't remember reverting you, I must have accidentally pressed the [revert] link in your contribs and then navigated away quickly before the successful revert screen came up. Please accept my apologies. - Icewedge (talk) 17:59, 21 July 2008 (UTC)
- Okay,I accept your apology. XxJoshuaxX (talk) 22:24, 21 July 2008 (UTC)
I think (hope?) I'm ready
[edit]Hi Icewedge! Hope your traveling has been fun. I've always wanted to go up and see ANWR but never had the chance. It is on my bucket list, along with a million other places. :D
Anyway, at my editor review you offered to nominate me for adminship. I'd like to take you up on that offer now. I've been doing a lot of reading policies and working on my answers to the questions, and I think I'm ready. As you said, even if I fail I think it could be a great learning experience, as in some ways it is an editor review with wider exposure. I've never had incivility problems or vandalism so if I did fail it would be WP:NOTNOW, and I think I could get a lot of helpful advice.
I've been doing some different things since my original edit review statement so let me know if you'd like an update before you write the nomination statement. Thanks so much for your time! L'Aqùatique[review] 21:15, 21 July 2008 (UTC)
- Kk, I'm on it! - Icewedge (talk) 22:24, 21 July 2008 (UTC)
- The ultimate irony of course, is that I just went to the eye doctor and now my eyes are dialated and I can't barely see what I'm writing. Hope it gets better by the time I have to answer questions! L'Aqùatique[review] 00:40, 22 July 2008 (UTC)

Adminship
[edit]No, you are the one that Wikipedia is not the right place for. You can't just go around shutting down peoples requests. I guess you don't like me. I did what I was asked. User Keegan to me that I need around 2,000 to 3,000 total edits and at least 6 months experience. I have been on Wikipedia for more than 7 months now and my edit total has surpassed 1800. Please, I want to help the community. As an admin, if I am not sure that a source is reliable enough, then I will discuss it on the talk page of whatever article and see what other admins think. I would make a good admin. I understand vandalism quite well, I understand the blocking and protection policies. If I were an admin and didn't know much about an issue, then I would read about it before doing anything. You are wrong by saying that I don't use edit summaries. I do use summaries. Please, make another request for adminship for me. Please. Footballfan190 (talk) 02:53, 24 July 2008 (UTC)
Wiki AE
[edit]Per your invitation, I decided to place the Wiki Project AE template on my user page today: [1]
I have two questions: Can you please move the banner to the right hand side of my User page (like you have done on your User page)? I find it distracting in its current position. Secondly, why is it that I am not now listed as a 'participant' in the Wiki Project AE web page here: [2]. There isn't an 'edit' tab which I can click on and add my name to it. Why is it designed this way? Its not as simple as this web page: [3] on the ANE Wiki Project.
For Your Info, I've done many edits throughout the years since 2005 (under an old User page which I got locked out!) My latest edits were on Seth-Peribsen. I supplied footnotes #2 to #8. I hope you can resolve my two questions and my personal query . Thank You.
Thank You for your help. Yes, the Wiki AE template can be mindboggling. I asked if you were an Admin because of your reference to Trouts on your web page. Personally, I don't have the time to devote to be an Adminship because I have a full time job. (I'm not an Egyptologist but have a strong interest in this subject) FYI, Zerida has been banned indefinitely: [4] for abusively attacking Admin Dbachmann. One of the perils of the job sadly. [edit]I am sorry accidentally reverting edits and leaving a vandalism warning on your account. It's fixed now. User:IcewedgeHugglesGoats!. LeaveSleaves (talk) 03:07, 25 July 2008 (UTC)

Wikiproject AE
[edit]Dear Sir (if you are a lady, my apologies!). I made this edit [5] to display the sign up tab for the WikiProject Ancient Egypt list. If you wish to move it to the right or feel it is inappropriate and want to revert it, please feel free to make that change. As an Aside, I removed Hajor from the members list (his web site said he retired in November 2005 and he hasn't made any edits since then) and Zerida for obvious reasons sadly: [6] I hope this is acceptable since some minor updating is preferable. BTW, I made major edits to Weneg (pharaoh) yesterday and added all the 6 footnotes for it. It seems from the latest scholarship that Weneg was just another name for Raneb. Regards, from BC, Canada. Leoboudv (talk) 04:14, 25 July 2008 (UTC)
- Yes, I am male, your guess was correct. That link was a good idea, I had not realized just how hard it was to navigate to the userlist page until today. Good work. Also, I have re-added the two users you removed back onto the list but I have placed them in a special section called "Previous / Inactive users" as well as all the other users marked as [inactive]. As for Weneg, thanks for your work! Now, do you suppose we should now merge the two articles as they have been shown to be the same person? - Icewedge (talk) 04:50, 25 July 2008 (UTC)
Thanks for the reply. I have already placed Weneg besides Raneb in the 2nd Dynasty king list: [7] I haven't touched the Raneb article at present. I'll probably do an edit or two here soon. I was busy in the real world with my own job today. I had the latest source information on Weneg from my university--UBC in Vancouver, Canada--for months but typing it in was really time consuming. I'm glad I updated the articles on Weneg and Seth Peribsen in the past two or three days. Cheers, Leoboudv (talk) 05:10, 25 July 2008 (UTC)
RFA
[edit]Check out User:Bearian. How much did it take for him to become an admin? How many edits has he made total?
It took a little under 8 months for him to become an admin. He has made 19,000 edits so far. Another thing, just because you don't believe my RFA will succedd, that does not give you the right to close it.
And another thing, stop putting my messages to your talk page in mine. Footballfan190 (talk) 03:54, 26 July 2008 (UTC)
- First of if you want this conversation to stay on your talk page then, ok. I prefer to "ping pong" conversations because I know that my messages will be read if I post it to my partner in conversation, but if you like them congruent then I shall post my responses here.
- As for adminship and edit count, edit count means very little, as I said before some users have failed with over 30K edits while some users have passed with less than 1,000. Edit count it not a very good indicator of a users readiness to become an admin. It is true that a user with less than a thousand edits probably does not have enough experience for the job but just because someone has enough edits does not mean they have enough experience to succeed.
- About closing your RFA, yes, you are correct, I have no exact stated right to be allowed to go around closing RFA's at random. However, In the name of bypassing needless bureaucratic waste and to lessen the drama that may be harmful to the Wikipedia community, in certain cases where the outcome is already certain editor are allowed to close or end discussions prematurely as long as there is consensus in that action. I do understand that you disagree, but the five other editors that commented at your RFA expressed the opinion in no uncertain terms that you are just not ready. If I had not closed it another editor would have. I have been hanging around at RFA for a little over a year now and it is my honest opinion that even if you had run for a full seven days you would have gotten not a single support !vote.
- Finally, I must apologize if my statement that WP might not be the right place for you was hurtful. I said it more in the sense that you might in the end be happier somewhere else doing something else. In all defensiveness on my part I must point out that I was not the first one to issue the said statement.
- I am truly sorry but such closures are common practice and in the end are better for the community and the candidate, see WP:NOTNOW and WP:SNOW. - Icewedge (talk) 06:06, 26 July 2008 (UTC)
Main page proposal
[edit]Hi Icewedge,
I saw your comment at Wikipedia:Village pump (technical) and I wanted to talk to you a bit more about the main page and the (revised) proposal to move it to Portal:Wikipedia. As ais523 pointed out, having the main page in the article space is causing even more problems than I initially realized, and moving it to the Portal space would resolve these problems. Specifically, moving the main page would fix the following:
- The top-left tab would read "portal" instead of "article".
- People who want to make copies of Wikipedia, such as people who provide computers to schools in Africa that can't get Internet access, would have an easier time separating actual articles from project content which they don't want to copy. Because the content of the main page changes dynamically from day to day, it would take quite a bit of work to make the main page work and keep working on an offline copy of Wikipedia. Thus, since the main page won't actually work by default, it's probably best to exclude it from copies of Wikipedia article content by default.
- The "cite this page" link in the sidebar would be hidden from screen readers and text-only browsers, and the sitewide CSS would no longer have to contain a special declaration to hide it.
- The article count shown at Special:Statistics would be accurate instead of being 1 higher than the actual number of articles on Wikipedia.
{{NUMBEROFARTICLES}}
would also be accurate instead of being off by one. - Statistics about Wikipedia articles would be more accurate and not slightly skewed by statistics about the main page that are likely to get mixed in.
- It would be generally easier to write bots and other automated scripts because developers would not have to worry about having to write special code for the main page, ever.
Does that help resolve your concerns a bit? —Remember the dot (talk) 05:40, 26 July 2008 (UTC)
Thank you very much

- No problem, I like SSP CHU work, makes me feel like a detective. lol. I must say that is a rather weird sockpuppetry case though. It actual looks as if one user is fighting both sides of the issue but I left that out just for the sake of expedience, if my suspicions are true than the CHU will get them as well. - Icewedge (talk) 08:01, 26 July 2008 (UTC)
RFA Thanks
[edit]Thank you for participating in my RfA, Extransit/talkarchives! | |
I am grateful for your confidence: My RfA passed by a count of 64/3/3, so I am now an administrator! Of course, I plan to conduct my adminship in service of the community, so I believe the community has a right to revoke that privilege at any time. Thus, I will be open for recall under reasonable circumstances. If you have any advice, complaints, or concerns for me, please let me know. Again, Thanks! Fair use rationale for Image:ITBLMF_cover.jpg
[edit]Thanks for uploading or contributing to Image:ITBLMF_cover.jpg. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in Wikipedia articles constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use. Suggestions on how to do so can be found here.
Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.
If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free media lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Do you want to opt out of receiving this notice? Rettetast (talk) 21:58, 31 July 2008 (UTC)
