Explanation of my unconventional tower of babel: I speak English well, it is the language I am a native speaker of, and it is the only language I speak or write with any real proficiency, though I fell out of school in the 9th-grade so my apparently expansive vocabulary is only an appearance, hence -2 proficiency. I can read moderately involved documents (to include encyclopedia articles) and with difficulty and reference to a usually-monolingual dictionary answer basic questions in Esperanto, and I can understand but not answer some basic questions in French, which I'd be expected to know as I live in Canada.
