Digital Factory is a commercial enterprise application software (EAS) for Additive Manufacturing and e-commerce delivered as a software-as-a-service SaaS. Marketed by Kraftwurx, Inc.,[1]. The system includes tools for consumer-driven mass customization and software for management of manufacturing operations. Digital Factory was developed by Digital Reality, Inc and acquired by Kraftwurx in 2011.

Digital Factory extends e-commerce to the Additive Manufacturing ecosystem by providing tools to publish, configure, sell and manufacture products in an e-commerce environment. Users can open a stand-alone website for 3D printing or embed (mix) products made with additive manufacturing into an existing e-commerce website. The system also handles many of the back-end manufacturing processes required for manufacturing products that are ordered through the system.

Digital Factory updates are released directly to the website

Founded in 2011, Kraftwurx is based in Houston, Texas(USA).

Digital Factory is based on provisional patent application 60/747,601 claiming priority to a May 18, 2006 filing date. The provisional patent application is entitled "MADE-TO-ORDER RAPID MANUFACTURING ENTERPRISE" and was filed by patent Attorney William D. Wiese of the DuBois Bryant & Campbell law firm of Austin, TX. The Patent was filed under several co-pending applications, most notably 11/750,499, filed May 18, 2007 under a non-publication request and application US 13/134,581. [2]US Patent US8515826 B2 issued on Aug 20, 2013 claims priority to the 2006 provisional application.

US Patent 8,515,826 is considered a business method patent although it is also republished as a manufacturing process patent seeking re-issue.

Digital Factory was first demonstrated in April 2006 via the Digital Reality website at http://www.digitalrealitycorp.com/demo1.htm as a web-based software-as-a-service SaaS.[3]. The demo website was first referenced by Make Magazine in August 2007 by contributing editor Phillip Torrone in a "from the future spotlight" http://makezine.com/2007/08/02/3d-mass-customization/.

The first version of Digital Factory was demonstrated in 2005 to the US Department of Defense under an Small Business Innovation Research Grant proposal to the Ballistic Missle Defense Prodgram Comdex
