Editor coaching
[edit]Okay, I can give you editor coaching as well. Yes, I do recall coaching you in the past here and nominating you for RFA here. Again, I'm trying my coaching from a different angle, so why not give it another shot? I'll create a subpage like Gears of War's and we'll find out the best direction to take this coaching. I see you have gained a lot of experience since our paths last crossed, so we'll see how this goes. Useight (talk) 16:32, 25 June 2008 (UTC)
- Alright, I created a subpage at User:Red Thunder/Editor Coaching. Since I'm trying a new angle, I started your subpage with the same four questions as Gears of War's, but I do expect that the two will head in different directions. Useight (talk) 16:37, 25 June 2008 (UTC)

Radio Wikipedia Re-Design
[edit]Hello Avenged Eightfold, I, StewieGriffin! • Talk Sign Listen, have redesigned the Radio Wikipedia main page. You may be interested in Wikipedia:Radio_Wikipedia#Staff, as it details Who Reports When? and the current staff. I am sure you already know our uploading instructions, but that is there too. Just so you know:
- Saturday 28 June 2008: Xenocidic
- Sunday 29 June 2008: Red Thunder
- Monday 30 June 2008: StewieGriffin!
And before you reserve Tuesday, we have a new instruction. Anyway, Thanks and I look forward to your episode. StewieGriffin! • Talk Sign Listen 21:22, 27 June 2008 (UTC) PS: I understand you know this, but remember a 3 Minute Show is the max. PPS: I would also like to say, we won't use a system like X, RT, SG, X,... instead users will just reserve episodes the previous day.
- Add a segment in when? By the way I would prefer ST doesn't do that type of segment, as I am preparing to tweak RWP, to a talk show style. I am sorry. StewieGriffin! • Talk Sign Listen 21:42, 27 June 2008 (UTC)
- No offence, but if you cared to look, my ep today is cancelled. PS: It's not late. StewieGriffin! • Talk Sign Listen 19:20, 30 June 2008 (UTC)
- No. I'm doing tomorrows ep. I've reserved it. 20 past 8 isn't late! 11, is late. StewieGriffin! • Talk Sign Listen 19:24, 30 June 2008 (UTC)

Radio Wikipedia segments?
[edit]Hello! I hope this is not a silly question, but can Radio Wikipedia do phone-in segments? Or do contributors have to submit their input via digital files? I figured a phone-in segment would give the listener a conversation, which may be more interesting to listen to. Thanks. Ecoleetage (talk) 13:14, 1 July 2008 (UTC)
- I asked because I never did digital recording on my computer. I didn't know if it was possible to have the segment phoned in, which would enable two or more people to converse and do interviews. Thanks! Ecoleetage (talk) 13:56, 1 July 2008 (UTC)
Sorry - I undid your edits to the talk and the article. First off, the bold quote which says: "Do not manually update the {{ArticleHistory}} template when the FLC closes." Just wait for GimmeBot to take care of it. « Milk's Favorite Cøøkie 17:26, 1 July 2008 (UTC)

Radio Wikipedia
[edit]Just wanted to say that I've listened to a few of the episodes, and I enjoy the content. If you're ever interested in doing something along the lines of a Skype discussion between multiple users, I'd be happy to give you a hand. Mastrchf (t/c)17:42, 1 July 2008 (UTC)
- Skype is a free program that's easy to use and is used by many podcasters, online radio programs, etc. I'm not really interested in doing an online show in which I would be the only correspondent, but if you ever did a discussion, I'd help with that. Mastrchf (t/c)17:52, 1 July 2008 (UTC)

Orphaned non-free media (Image:Pennant.ogg)
[edit]Thanks for uploading Image:Pennant.ogg. The media description page currently specifies that it is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, it is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the media was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that media for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).
If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that all non-free media not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. BJBot (talk) 05:27, 2 July 2008 (UTC)

RADWP
[edit]Hi Red,
You don't need to have SG's permission to add stuff to iTunes. It's in the Public Domain. Anyone can do anything with it now. He holds no rights over it. I have been watching this debate with great interest: indeed I warned him about it in the early days. *sigh* I'm going to have to warn him over WP:OWN and also potentially for breaking copyright.
Anyhoo,
Thanks,
BG7even 14:25, 3 July 2008 (UTC)
- OK. But the only reason Goblin is mentioning own is because I told him about this. Also, I am releasing my episodes under a different license, and soon will be fully copyrighted. StewieGriffin! • Talk Sign Listen 15:45, 3 July 2008 (UTC)

- Help on creating articles
- How to make a ref list.
Just respond quick. I'm going to play tennis so I won't respond until tommorow (I think)

...is now a featured list. Perhaps you'd be interested in working with me to make the fourth season article featured? Mastrchf (t/c)19:26, 5 July 2008 (UTC)
- I had a great base to build on, so not much improvement was needed :D. I think the article shouldn't take much work. Expanding the lead, adding in a true production section, reception/awards info, and a bit of copy-editing in the eps should get it there. Mastrchf (t/c)19:31, 5 July 2008 (UTC)
- That'd be a great idea. I've wanted to improve a character article, but haven't ever gotten around to it. - Casting and character development should also be included. Mastrchf (t/c)17:51, 6 July 2008 (UTC)
- Another word: The article seems to be getting good, but the multiple sections about his life seem to make it almost more of a biography than an overview about the creation, development, life of, and reception to a fictional character. Perhaps the sections devoted to the character's personality and life be trimmed significantly? Mastrchf (t/c)18:00, 6 July 2008 (UTC)

Reverting post on DC10
[edit]Hi, just wondering why the update on the DC10 article was reverted? The root causes of the accidents were design flaws that McDonnell Douglas knew about. That was one of the major reasons for the overall failure of DC10 during the early years. I think it is very helpful in describing the actual problem, and informing readers about the incident.

As you may know, the StatusBot responsible for maintaining the status of the Highly Active Users was taken offline. We now have a replacement in the Qui status system. This semi-automatic system will allow you to easily update your status page found at Special:Mypage/Status which the HAU page code is now designed to read from. If you are already using Qui (or a compatible system) - great! - no action is needed (other than remembering to update your status as necessary). If not, consider installing Qui. You can also manually update this status by changing the page text to online, offline, or busy. While it is not mandatory, the nature of HAU is that people are often seeking a quick answer from someone who is online and keeping our statuses up-to-date will assist with this. Note if you were previously using your /Status page as something other than a one-word status indicator, your HAU entry may have been set to "status=n" to correct display issues. Please clear this parameter if you change things to be "HAU compatible". Further questions can be raised at WT:HAU. This message was delivered by xenobot 22:58, 8 July 2008 (UTC)

This month's newsletter was designed and written by Wizardman, jj137, and Blackngold29. If you would like to contribute to future newsletters, please contact the Baseball WP outreach dept. |
Baseball has a history unlike any other sport. It has been played in countless countries throughout the decades, and it will undoubtedly continue play for many more. On this eve, some the finest players the sport has to offer will take the field at the Yankee Stadium. Four popes spoke there, Pelé scored goals there, "The Greatest [football] Game Ever Played" was battled out there, John Philip Sousa lead a band there, George Costanza worked there; but what do all these events have in common? They fail to reach the level of greatness that the baseball that was played there did. In 1923, a man named Babe Ruth decided to build a new house, and over the years, that house was a home to some of the greatest baseball ever played. If I were to list out all of these great moments, it would be longer than the bill for the New Yankee Stadium. So I'll sum it up by saying that we can remember these great moments by adding them to this place we've gathered at for future generations to read about, to learn about, to dream about; but more importantly we can watch tonight and we can remember how baseball is unlike anything else that we will encounter in our lives. — Blackngold29 |

[edit]Hey dude. I've thought about it and if we can do an ESPN league. You or me can create it. You, me, maybe JJ, maybe MFC, have league admin powers. I just know that ESPN is amazing with football leagues. The main problem would be staying active. If you look I'm the only one active in that fantasy baseball league on the ESPN league therefore I am kicking everyone's asses.CBS league a few non wikipedians are a bit active. So, whadda ya say? New Podcast
[edit]I noticed you left Radio Wikipedia, and are intending to do your own podcast. I'd just like to remind you that I'm still interested in being a part of a WP Podcast of some sort, as long as it's a multi-person discussion. I'm not much for the single-person reporting style of RADWP. I actually just purchased a new voice recorder, as well as a new microphone, both albeit for other uses, but they could be used for a podcast. Mastrchf (t/c)20:45, 3 August 2008 (UTC)
Wikipedia:WikiUpdate
[edit]Hey, i'd be interested in participating as a contributor. Ironholds 22:56, 4 August 2008 (UTC)
- News story in an audio form, right? I assume you mean I wouldn't neccessarily need to be on skype at the same time as everyone else if I was doing a standalone thing (with the time differences and all simultaneous skype might be difficult). Idea's so far; I was thinking of maybe a few minutes on what 2010's wikimania bids are looking like at the moment, maybe some congratulations for whatever admins have been promoted in the previous days (if any), general wiki-news and so on. I also have a vaguely amusing idea for an intro, but meh. Is this going to work as an alternative to StewieGriffin's show while he's AFK or will it continue afterwards? Ironholds 10:44, 5 August 2008 (UTC)
- Excellent. Additional questions; when do you want the recording in by, who else is involved in the project, how are we getting the word out, do you want me to (vaguely) master it and improve the sound quality, so on. If we can get people on IRC (or more appropriately Skype) at the right time we could have a proper discussion about what's involved, although it's your baby. I sleep odd hours anyway, so if you want any live events or anything you need me involved in i'll probably be awake while you yanks are. Additional idea and a kind of divisive topic (read:good; a debate on age and adminship?). Ironholds 10:51, 5 August 2008 (UTC)
- I'd suggest maybe 3 people max for any age debate to prevent it getting too heated (and also because more than 3 people talking on skype means people interrupt each other); one from each side, one in the middle to shut people up (I volunteer, I have mixed views on the debate). I was thinking maybe I first give an overview of how the discussion on the RfA talkpage worked out, then invite users X and X to give their views (similar to an actual news bulletin). I've encountered GoW and Shapiros before, and seen Xenocidic around; the other two I dont think i've even heard of. For the debate i'd say GoW (young, failed RfA partially from that) and, if possible maybe User:Cameron who has a differing view. User:David Fuchs is an example of an under-18 admin who's RfA did pass, so if you can get the other two to do it and feel that 4 is not pushing it for a discussion you could maybe get him in? I'd emphasise not bothering unless Cameron agree's, otherwise it's just two people with the same viewpoint debating. I'll try and clear my recording up before sending it over; apologies in advance for the accent. Can I make a request though, could you talk a bit faster in the 'cast? I just listened to the first one and it seemed a bit stilted, although that might just be my silly English take on things. Ironholds 11:14, 5 August 2008 (UTC)

Request to reconsider adding BasilMarket.com to /wiki/MapleStory
[edit]Regarding http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/MapleStory, please reconsider adding BasilMarket.com (you stated rules #5, 11 as being issues). The site does not SELL anything physical. It simply allows you to LIST items you want to buy/sell IN GAME. So rule #5 does not apply. Secondly, I see absolutely no blog or personal web page on BasilMarket (rule #11). As a respected Maple Story community of over 4 years we work hard on providing a unique and useful site for users.

G'day Wiki-Updater!
[edit]...and whilst we sort of all fit that general description, I'm (of course) referring to your work in recording the like-named audio project! I thought I'd swing by and say hello, because I've been involved in the 'Not The Wikipedia Weekly' project - so we've both done some work in getting people talking and listening!
I wondered if you might want to come along to a Skype based discussion at some point - both just to generally hang out (because it's quite cool to do so!) - but also maybe to talk about how we might work together, and how we might be able to support each others' efforts etc. - if you pop along to our 'homepage' you'll find a link to a public Skype chat which is pretty active most of the time - or you can just add me as a Skype contact (ID Privatemusings) and I could introduce you to whoever's around!

[edit]Hello, Avenged Eightfold! Wikipedia:2008 main page redesign proposal was recently cleared of all design entries. You may want to re-enter your design(s), based on the details here. (You can see the old list of designs here). NOTE: A survey was conducted on what users wanted to see in the new main page, you can see the results here. Orphaned non-free media (Image:Milkweed cover.gif)
[edit]Thanks for uploading Image:Milkweed cover.gif.
Thank you. BJBot (talk) 05:10, 1 September 2008 (UTC)
Re: Tropical cyclones
[edit]Actually, many of our articles are no where near our quality standard (typically FA!). If you want to take on a large project, stop on by Category:Stub-Class Tropical cyclone articles or Category:Start-Class Tropical cyclone articles and pick an article at random, or you can look at the C and B-class categories if your looking for more of a copyedit-then-GAN piece of work. As an example, it would be nice to have something like Tropical Storm Cindy (1993) expanded with some French sources, or you could work on a retired hurricane article like Hurricane Donna. Good luck with whatever you pick! –Juliancolton Tropical Cyclone 20:34, 2 September 2008 (UTC)

edit summaries
[edit]At one time it was considered "the thing" to carry on a conversation using the edit summary which is what the discussion page is for. So while it may be appropriate to use the edit summary when editing an article page it may encourage wrongful use of the edit summary if it is used with the discussion page. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 71.100.14.204 (talk) 21:32, 11 September 2008 (UTC)
Speedy deletion of Template:Celtics SBS
[edit]A tag has been placed on Template:Celtics SBS requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section T3 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because it is a deprecated or orphaned template. After seven days, if it is still unused and the speedy deletion tag has not been removed, the template will be deleted.
If the template is intended to be substituted, please feel free to remove the speedy deletion tag and please consider putting a note on the template's page indicating that it is substituted so as to avoid any future mistakes (<noinclude>{{transclusionless}}</noinclude>
).

Strong Bad
[edit]It would probably be better to focus on the main article instead of just one single character. Pretty much everything about Strong Bad is going to be directly related to the main site in some way. Instead of just having a small spin-off article, focusing everything on to the main article could get it to reach FA status fairly quickly. Some slight restructuring, more sources, and some cleanup would help it greatly. TTN (talk) 21:12, 20 September 2008 (UTC)
- I am currently still developing the article, and I do believe that it will warrant enough information relevant to the character to keep the article, as Strong Bad is probably the most notable character of the site. RedThunder 23:44, 20 September 2008 (UTC)
- There is no doubt that its the most popular character on the site, but it is still just a part of it rather than a topic that separates itself. You haven't added much reception information yet, so I can't really comment on that, but the creation information will need to be shared between the two. That is sort of redundant in the long run. TTN (talk) 23:53, 20 September 2008 (UTC)
Fair use rationale for Image:Strong Bad.png
[edit]Thanks for uploading Image:Strong Bad.png. You've indicated that the image meets Wikipedia's criteria for non-free content, but there is no explanation of why it meets those criteria. Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. If you have any questions, please post them at Wikipedia:Media copyright questions.
Thank you for your cooperation. NOTE: once you correct this, please remove the tag from the image's page. STBotI (talk) 00:53, 21 September 2008 (UTC)

Hi, I'm trying to get an idea of what day of the week/time of day is good for scheduling a meetup in Providence. I'd like to have the first one in Oct. Do you have any preferences? --mikeu talk 21:47, 28 September 2008 (UTC)
- Sorry I didn't get something together for Oct. I have scheduled Nov. 8 and Dec. 13 for the next meetups, and we can talk about other days and locations. See Wikipedia talk:Meetup/Providence for details. --mikeu talk 14:21, 28 October 2008 (UTC)
- The Providence meetup is today. The plan is to try to meet between about 4-6pm and we'll be ordering pizza around 5pm. Note, that I will be there during the entire 1-8pm, and anyone is welcome to stop by, but I thought a more specific time might make it easier for people to plan attending. See the talk page for more info and discussion. --mikeu talk 12:54, 13 December 2008 (UTC)

Orphaned non-free media (Image:Road to the show.jpg)
[edit]Thanks for uploading Image:Road to the show.jpg. The media description page currently specifies that it is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. Admin coaching; graduate?
[edit]Hi Red Thunder!
I know it's been very short, but I think I've got the hang of things now, and I recently gained rollback. So I was wondering if I could take a "final test" to graduate or something, and if I passed it, if I could move up to admin coaching. I'm also going to send this to my other adopter.
Thank you for helping me with Twinkle! It has helped me enormously. I plan on moving up to Huggle now that I have Rollback. Jock Boy (t-c) 03:15, 30 October 2008 (UTC)

- Hi, Red Thunder. I hope you don't mind, but I also made one small change to your welcome template, just so that subsequent discussions on the user's talk page don't get included in the template's formatting. Also, it's customary to subst welcome templates on user talk pages (but not compulsory, in case you have a specific reason for not subst'ing).
