Choice of regions

[edit]

Why were the regional definitions used by the Department of Economic Development chosen to be so prominent in this template? There are other regional divisions, some of which make more sense than this. Orleans County is part of the Finger Lakes, but not Western New York?? Powers T 13:36, 20 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]

I mentioned this somewhere else, and the person who put the map in someplace was willing to work with me about this issue, though I forget who it was or where we had this conversation. When making the Timeline of town creation articles (Timeline of town creation in Central New York for example) I did my best based on what counties had their towns come from common backgrounds and this caused some counties be in regions that many could argue that there was a better region to be placed.Camelbinky (talk) 15:59, 21 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Upstate vs Downstate?

[edit]

This distinction seems sloppy to me. I lived in the Mohawk Valley (Onedia County) for eight years and people said I was in "central new york". This includes the people on the radio and writers in newspapers. — Preceding unsigned comment added by RobinReborn (talkcontribs) 20:37, 7 December 2014 (UTC)[reply]

No one from Ulster County would say that it is downstate. Downstate is the city, Long Island, and Westchester and Putnam Counties — Preceding unsigned comment added by Epoll964 (talkcontribs) 02:01, 15 February 2022 (UTC)[reply]
