Equivalents

[edit]

I like this template very much, but I guess "equivalents" groups should be improved. I have added OSM template to all the possible entries (as it is with all the navigating templates I know), but at least one such addition was lately reverted. I was also not 100% sure, so I think we should make this template more closely OSM-related. One thing could be removing "OSM closed-license equivalents" and for me that could be enough, but if we think it's still too broad, we could also remove "Other crowd-sourced projects and equivalents". Those entries belong to the more general template {{Earth}}, I think. Currently they are collected there under "Imaging" group (OSM is one of them), but we could rework it if needed. What are your opinions? --kocio (talk) 10:58, 30 May 2016 (UTC)[reply]

@Kocio: I don't think this template should have the "Similar free projects" or "Proprietary equivalents" rows at all. If readers need to see these links at the bottom of the OpenStreetMap article, then the links can go in a "See also" section or in a separate "Online maps" navbox template. As it is, it doesn't make sense to me that, for instance, there would be a direct link to Yahoo! Maps or Ordnance Survey Ireland at the bottom of the article about JOSM or Missing Maps. After all, this navbox wouldn't be appropriate to add to the Yahoo! Maps article. – Minh Nguyễn 💬 19:50, 20 August 2018 (UTC)[reply]
