Didn't they win a Tony Award for best regional theater a couple years back? -- Decumanus 03:17, 18 Jun 2004 (UTC)

The Utah Shakespeare Festival was founded in 1961 and presented its first season in 1962. Fred C. Adams was a new faculty member in the department of theater at the College of Southern Utah, now Southern Utah State University. He visualized a festival much like the Ashland, Oregon Shakespeare festival.

The first season was very successful, with over 3000 spectators. The partnership between the university and the community has been the key to the continued success of the enterprise, including construction of the new Randall L. Jones Theater, which opened in 1989.

In 1992, the Festival began also presenting staged readings of Plays-in-Progress to offer exposure to new works and playwrights.

In 2000, the Festival was the recipient of the Tony Award for Outstanding Regional Theatre.

Number of Plays

[edit]

I just checked their website, and they're listing 9 plays next season, and 9 1 "creative series". Shouldn't the "six" be updated? 128.152.20.33 20:12, 21 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Possible Conflict of Interest

[edit]

Judging by the tone of "presents life-affirming classic and contemporary plays in repertory, with Shakespeare as our cornerstone. These plays are enhanced by interactive festival experiences which entertain, enrich, and educate", it appears that a contributor to the article is probably involved with the festival. While this isn't a problem in itself, to prevent a conflict of interest, the opening really needs to be rewritten to lose the "marketing" feel. Rob (talk) 12:52, 28 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Utah Shakespearean FestivalUtah Shakespeare Festival – The Utah Shakespeare Festival changed its name from Utah Shakespearean Festival in 2011. That change should be made to the title of this article. See www.bard.org for evidence. Nikki Allen Koontz (talk) 19:02, 31 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]
