Steelyard

[edit]

I think the explanation of the name "Stalhof" in en:WP is wrong: First there was the Stalhof in London, then later on came the steel as a iron product, in Germany even later than in England. The German explanation is english "stal" (little building) put together with german "Hof" courtyard or property, suggesting that in the beginning there were probably many "stals" on the lot like on Bryggen in Bergen/Norway. Probably the meaning was mixed up in later industrial times... Think about it!--Kresspahl 22:43, 17 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Steelyard balance

[edit]

The weight of the sample is determined by the multiplying the known weights on the slider arm by the ratio of the distances of the two loads from the fulcrum, not the difference. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Jonesrt (talkcontribs) 12:04, 26 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]
