Let's be careful about counterspy issue and IIPA
[edit]The evidence is that Welch was known not only by Nov. 17, but publically as well before the publication of Agee's Counterspy list. I am not defending Agee or opposing the IIPA, but we now know that tying Agee or counterspy to Welch killing makes no sense given the timeline of prior publications and the fact that Welch was living in what had been identified as the CIA station chief house.
So the correct notation is that Welch's assassination was used to pass Intelligence Agents Protection Act, but wrongly so, due to the clear timing issues of his prior identification by Nov. 17 and others. CIA had been being sloppy, and its personnel including COS could be identified by indirect means.108.18.74.119 (talk) 22:46, 16 September 2014 (UTC)
Problem with the date.
[edit]The article claims that Welch was identified in 1968 by CounterSpy. But CounterSpy was created in 1973 so this is inaccurate. 2A01:E34:EC27:2E0:C428:96A5:B126:4802 (talk) 09:25, 1 March 2023 (UTC)
