Need alkylpyrazine article
[edit]Need an article on alkylpyrazine. Does anyone have the expertise to add it? Badagnani (talk) 18:39, 8 February 2008 (UTC)
There is a Wikipedia page, now cited in the article. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 24.177.0.155 (talk) 12:23, 5 May 2020 (UTC)
Tetramethylpyrazine
[edit]I just removed the false claim that "It is on the cigarette additives list" - thinking that that was referring to pyrazine, the subject of this article. On re-reading it I think whoever wrote that intended "It" to refer to tetramethylpyrazine, the subject of the previous sentence, which is on the list. However, that's a completely different compound, only related to pyrazine in a technical sense of interest to chemists. The same can be said for the other "derivatives" described in the opening paragraph. Their properties cannot meaningfully be said to be related to those of pyrazine. I'd suggest that description of tetramethylpyrazine as a cigarette additive belongs in the alkylpyrazine article mentioned above, if tetramethylpyrazine doesn't have its own article. In any case, if someone insists on adding back the sentence I deleted, I hope they'll clarify that it refers to tetramethylpyrazine and not to the subject of the article. The original wording was unclear. 216.75.190.36 (talk) 23:43, 24 July 2008 (UTC)
Something more than synthesis and derivatives?
[edit]I arrived at this page after following a link on the Coffea Canephora page, stating that greater pyrazine content is the reason robusta coffee is more bitter than arabica coffee. Based on that, I assume the chemical occurs naturally, plays some significant role in plant biology, and is has a huge economic significance in setting the value of a major global commodity. None of that is mentioned in the present article, which focuses exclusively on laboratory synthesis. Half the current article is about chemical compounds which can be synthesized from pyrazine, and the rest of the article after that is about the synthesis of the compound itself. NikolaiSmith (talk)
