so whats the formula? KAl(SO4)2·12(H2O) or K2SO4·Al2(SO4)3·24H2O ? mastodon 17:22, 29 May 2006 (UTC)
- If you look closely you'll see that the second formula is the first one doubled and rearranged, so they have the same proportions. It is confusing though; I'll try to improve it. —Keenan Pepper 04:31, 2 June 2006 (UTC)

Duplicate with Alum page?
[edit]This page refers to the same compond as Alum. It would be less confusing to merge both.
- Alum is a general term for the dodecahydate of sulfate (or selenate, tellurate, etc.) of aluminum (or even some trivalent metal) and some other monovalent cation, all with the same structure. This page is for the potassium alum specifically.
Confusingly aluminum sulfate is also called "alum" in some industries.
I tried to sort that out and move material to the proper pages. --Jorge Stolfi (talk) 17:24, 5 February 2018 (UTC)
Sidha medicine
[edit]I removed this contribution pending further clarification:
The two references are links to commercial sites and do not support the claim that those names refer to potassium alum. --Jorge Stolfi (talk) 17:28, 5 February 2018 (UTC)
- The alum block pictured is Ammonium Alum not Potassium Alum (can be ascertained by sniffing the item in water) so is probably another commercial plug. Ballisticbrian (talk) 12:11, 23 February 2024 (UTC)
