Toro Rosso's usage of Petronas

[edit]

I just wanted to enquire about the inclusion of Petronas supplying fuel / lubricants to Toro Rosso Honda / AlphaTauri Honda. Where was this information obtained? There is no way Mercedes would allow Petronas, their title sponsor, to supply their direct competitors Red Bull with the same fuel. Besides it was also stated on Honda F1's page that RA-XXXH engines have always used Esso Synergy / Mobil1, so there seems to be a conflict, so where was this information obtained? Thanks — Preceding unsigned comment added by 137.189.241.19 (talk) 05:39, 4 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Capitalisation

[edit]

This is for those who insists on spelling it as Petronas: PETRONAS is an acronym, like e.g. NATO. We don't write it as Nato, do we? It's not just a shorthand, it's a trademark, used in all official PETRONAS documents and publications. I work here, so I know how it's supposed to be spelled. As a side note, you might find that even the Malaysian media writes it as Petronas, but that's only because they're ignorant. In PETRONAS's press releases, it's always written as PETRONAS, not Petronas. You might think PETRONAS looks strange, but to me, Petronas looks strange, and PETRONAS looks proper. --Aidfarh 02:10, 10 Jun 2005 (UTC)

The e, t, r, o, a, and s are not from the initial letters of the constituent words, so there is no reason to capitalize them. All the letters of NATO stand for a separate word, so they get capitalized. This is not the case with Petronas. Gestapo comes from Geheime Staatspolizei, but we don't spell it "GESTAPO". The same goes for Petronas. Nohat 02:33, 10 Jun 2005 (UTC)
Why don't you refer to the wiki Acronym and initialism? Sure, NATO is an initialism, it's also an acronym. There's no standard on how we spell acronyms. The question is not how WE spell Gestapo, but how they themselves spell it. If the Gestapo people want to spell it that way, then we follow them. But in the acronyms wiki page, CONMEBOL is also given as an example, and that's not an initialism. Why is it spelled with all caps? PETRONAS's a self-given acronym, chosen by PETRONAS people, and they (we) choose to spell it with all caps. Who are you to say we are wrong? It's a brand, our brand. Please have some respect, and spell it the way it should be. How would you like it if people don't spell your name the right way? Another example is McDonald's. If you insist that there's a standard way to capitalise names, why don't we spell it as Mcdonald's instead? --Aidfarh 23:57, 10 Jun 2005 (UTC)
Wikipedia policy is to spell things how they are most commonly spelled, not how some group of people want us to spell it. It is most commonly spelled "Petronas", so that's how Wikipedia will spell it. Nohat 01:54, 11 Jun 2005 (UTC)
Relax people. I think we just follow the official version: PETRONAS.good

>>>>>18/12/2013 update>>>>> The full legal name is PETROLIAM NASIONAL BERHAD (PETRONAS)and the official singular name is PETRONAS. The name should always be spelled in ALL-CAPITALS to emphasise the solemnity and history roots. The Full legal name is to be used for legal matters and information only and it should never be used for branding and communication purposes. >>>>> INFO ADAPTED FROM BRAND MANAGEMENT WEBSITE, PETRONAS — Preceding unsigned comment added by 170.38.99.34 (talk) 01:28, 18 December 2013 (UTC)[reply]

We should always refer to the official website, http://www.petronas.com.my/about-us/Pages/corporate-profile.aspx, there is NONE in the website that spelled PETRONAS as Petronas — Preceding unsigned comment added by 170.38.99.35 (talk) 01:31, 18 December 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Copyvio sections

[edit]

I just wanted to mention that I've removed the Events in 2005 section because both are copyvios from these sources: [1] and [2] --Andylkl (talk) 19:11, 1 October 2005 (UTC)[reply]

I agree with this. Plus you shouldnt write big chunks of paragraphs. and there no need to put events on a company page. even if you wanted to, you have to summarise it. --Haniff 17:11, 4 October 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Education Sponsorhip Unit

[edit]

The reason why add this is that ESU is a big unit of Petronas. They have office at the Twin Tower. Anyway, if anyone feel this is out of place, I think you should add all the other Units under Petronas, so that ESU is one of these units. For now, it looks out of place since there's only one unit shown, but when other units are there, it should look ok. --Haniff 01:30, 9 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Rectified. I don't think it's practical to list down all other PETRONAS units here, so I've changed the heading instead. --Fusion16 18:28, 18 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Acronym

[edit]

PETRONAS is an acronym for Petroliam Nasional Berhad, not Petroleum Nasional Berhad. Please check PETRONAS official website and other resource regarding this. I need somebody from PETRONAS corporate affairs to confirm this. --Escabyte 15:53, 3 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Capitalisation of page title

[edit]

By my reckoning, naming conventions and the above discussion place this article here, at Petronas, and not at PETRONAS. If you disagree, and would like this page to reside at PETRONAS, please do not attempt to move it there yourself. Please follow the proedure at Wikipedia:Requested moves. Thank you. — mholland 13:27, 14 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Never mind the page title. We should be removing all the capitalised "PETRONAS" in the bady of the article too as per WP:MOSTM. Even stuff like PETRONAS Twin Towers is a redirect anyway. I'll fix that just now. --DeLarge 16:43, 20 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Fair use rationale for Image:Petronas logo.jpg

[edit]

Image:Petronas logo.jpg is being used on this article. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in this Wikipedia article constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If there is other other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on the other images used on this page. Note that any fair use images uploaded after 4 May, 2006, and lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.BetacommandBot 06:25, 6 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Name

[edit]

Is the name of the company "Petronas" or "PETRONAS"? It is inconsistent throughout the article. sovereign°sentinel (contribs) 06:10, 12 August 2015 (UTC)[reply]
