Comment

[edit]

user: Imad marie continues to remove the age of the subject.[1][2] its quite elementary. if sources in 2010 say he currently is 32 that means he was born somewhere around 1978. Not sure if being contentious about this issue is silly or vandalism. More input requested. Thanks, --brewcrewer (yada, yada) 04:12, 8 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]

... and the source saying he's 30 is from 2008. it all makes sense when you do the math. not something that we should be wasting out time with.--brewcrewer (yada, yada) 04:14, 8 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]
First, I'll just ignore the "vandalism" comment and AGF here.
Second, why are you so keen to include the age? The sources don't explicitly mention the age, why should we do the calculations?
What if the guy was born December 1977? then he is 32 years and 4 months old.
Lastly, I do not think we should add the word "Sheikh", it's really un-encyclopedic. We don't have to use every word written in the sources. Imad marie (talk) 10:10, 8 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]
You were right, Mosab was born in 1978. I added the fact with its ref. Imad marie (talk) 21:25, 8 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Someone may wish to add an infobox, with the year-of-birth-and-age template included.--Epeefleche (talk) 05:24, 14 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]

renovation of the article

[edit]

the way facts are referenced to old news-article, seems to me anachronistic or outdated, since all facts are open to read in his book. I suggest to collect the relevant/important news all to External links --Micha2 (talk) 21:29, 15 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I would suggest using both the book, new articles, and old articles, and rather than just putting them in ELs to actually use them as refs to support existing text and new text that you may think appropriate after reading the sources. Best.--Epeefleche (talk) 05:26, 14 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Nationality?

[edit]

I just saw that hte article claims he is a Palestinian-American. He is not an American. If he was, why should he try to get asylum in the US and face deportation? That would not make any sense... I'm changing that real quick... —Preceding unsigned comment added by Janet1983 (talkcontribs) 20:08, 25 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Bibliography

[edit]

The section labeled Bibliography, shoud it not instead be labeled 'Biography'? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 99.50.230.48 (talk) 04:22, 24 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]

No, it is a list of books written by the subject. See the Wiktionary definition. --gråb whåt you cån (talk) 16:46, 8 September 2012 (UTC)[reply]

He holds US citizenship

[edit]

On the page it states that he mentioned in an interview to Jake Tapper that he has US Citizenship. I think this should be reflected in the panel under "Nationality" or "Citizenship"! ZeOmnipotent (talk) 09:56, 2 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]

It should say "Palestinian ex-militant, activist, and writer"

[edit]

I feel the opening tag line should say "Palestinian ex-militant, activist, and writer", so as to not just reduce him to something he left in 1997! ZeOmnipotent (talk) 09:57, 2 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Hamas response

[edit]

I don't know if "other side" is the right word but it could be good to include at least one source from Hamas or one "critical" of his work similar to other wiki articles. Example: = Hamas official slams spy-claim book = By Tom Evans, CNN, March 4, 2010 , https://edition.cnn.com/2010/WORLD/meast/03/03/spy.claim/index.html . Not sure about specifics but discussion would be good Dogsrcool420 (talk) 22:48, 7 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Change the three instances of "The Green Prince(2014)" to "The Green Prince (2014)", yes the only difference is a space in the piped link which is ordinarily a cosmetic change that should be avoided, but in this case is needed as part of the WP:X3 process as the unspaced redirect will be deleted, thank you. 2601:5CC:8300:A7F0:A165:7AFC:68F9:104D (talk) 19:57, 16 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Inaccurate subtitle

[edit]

The subtitle says "Palestinian rights activist…" which gives a false impression for what he advocates. Palestinian rights activists implies someone advocating for the interests of Palestinians, likely in opposition to Israel. This man does not fit that description, as he mainly criticizes Hamas and Palestinians in support of Israel. "Anti Palestinian" or "Palestinian critic" or "Pro Israeli" would all be more accurate, but I'm not sure what the right replacement is. I'm not trying to argue about the morality of this issue; this is a genuine comment that the subtitle is merely inaccurate. 2601:240:D300:4E10:383F:ED83:7CAD:6ACF (talk) 04:23, 10 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]

because he doesnt subscribe to what you believe are the paths to Palestinian rights doesnt mean he isnt working for Palestinian rights. The best way for Palestinians to get rights is to get rid of its theocratic radical islamist leaders, HAMAS. Read his book. He wants better for Palestine than HAMAS and is pragmatic in his approach. 2605:A601:A5C9:7E00:FFC4:9E3E:1F5F:DB6D (talk) 15:23, 31 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
This is a fair point, in my opinion. Yousef probably wouldn’t even describe himself as a ‘pro-Palestinian’. He thinks they’re fundamentally wrong/mistaken in their cause.
But he is himself Palestinian, so I think there should be room for a description which tries to capture both elements of this. KronosAlight (talk) 01:59, 16 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Definition of Islama-phobic

[edit]

since the article is replete of accusations by Islamist groups that he is Islamaphobic I am just wondering how that is defined. Or do a bunch of Islamic groups get to call any negative comment about Islam Islamaphobic? Leftists writing wikipedia will kill it eventually. 2605:A601:A5C9:7E00:FFC4:9E3E:1F5F:DB6D (talk) 15:19, 31 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Are we really at the point where an Encyclopedia calls Muslim apostates "islamophobic"?

[edit]

The punishment for apostacy in Islam is death, Muslim apostates such as Yousef have taken the brave step of leaving the religion at the threat of death. And yet by some sleight of hand of modern weaponised English, padlocked articles now refer to apostates as "Islamophobic", as if to suggest that they are irrational and worthy of derision for having a negative view towards the religion that sentences them to death for leaving it. It's an affront to plain logic and common sense, which is upheld by the power users of this website.203.206.84.45 (talk) 18:21, 12 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Spelling error

[edit]

  • What I think should be changed (format using {{textdiff}}):

Under "Views on Islam and Muslims", the sentence "In May 2024, Yousef spoke at UCSD, where he said that Egypy should open up the Gaza-Egypt border so that the IDF could “burn” the city of Rafah", Egypy should be changed to Egypt.

  • Why it should be changed:

Egypy is in this context is clearly a misspelling of Egypt.

  • References supporting the possible change (format using the "cite" button):

My partial revert

[edit]

@KronosAlight I've mostly reverted your recent edits as they introduced several issues into the article including, but not limited to violation of MOS:TERRORIST, MOS:EDITORIAL, MOS:CLAIM, MOS:SCAREQUOTES, & actively adding false information (changing "Israeli settlers" to "Israeli soldiers", despite the source specifically saying settlers).

May I ask why you made these edits as I notice that you're not new to the topic area? Butterscotch Beluga (talk) 00:26, 16 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]

I was correcting factual errors introduced by previous antisemitic editors.
On the question of “settlers”, in that same interview source page a few lines above, Mossab says, quote,
“AMANPOUR: How did you take part in that? Were you one of the small children who threw rocks at Israeli soldiers?
YOUSEF: The model for every Palestinian child is a mujahid (ph) or a fidahi (ph) or a fighter. So, of course, I wanted to be one at that point of my life. It wasn't -- it's not my only dream. It's every child's dream in that territory.”
Now, you could then take his next statement that he threw rocks at “settlers” on the face of it, but it at least needs some disambiguation given his prior indication that he was throwing rocks at IDF soldiers – which itself was very common and a major component of the emotional and ideological element of that first intifada, and I’m not quibbling with that element.
May I ask why you reverted so many factual corrections to the record as I notice you’re also not new to the topic area? Do you perhaps have a deeper bias that’s influencing your decisions in this respect? KronosAlight (talk) 01:45, 16 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I’ve also corrected your vandalism by deleting your revert entirely.
If there are details you think are incorrect, you should feel free to edit the article with sources for those particular edits of mine as with any other page. I note that to this point you have not contributed anything to this page.
If you attempt to revert a second time, I will ensure this becomes a matter for the Arbitration Committee and therefore a matter for the permanent status of your account. KronosAlight (talk) 01:54, 16 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]
