Would it be beneficial to re-name this page to something like "Mental health of LGBTQ people"? The current name of "Mental disorders and LGBTQ" could give off the implication to some people when they see it linked on other pages that its insinuating that LGBTQ people have or are prone to having mental disorders because of their sexuality or that their sexuality or gender identity is/are a result of a mental disorder or other implications relating to causation which could be deemed offensive. "Mental health of LGBTQ people" could be a more neutral way of naming this page without such unnecessary implications. Helper201 (talk) 00:00, 12 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I agree with your point that the current name of the article can be easily misunderstood. On a new name, I would like to see other proposals as well, apart from "Mental health of LGBTQ people". Ktrimi991 (talk) 00:38, 12 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I like your proposal, "Mental health of LGBTQ people". The current title using LGBTQ as a noun like that does sound strange and a little demeaning. Like imagine we had an article called "Mental disorders and Black". – Anne drew03:59, 12 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I also agree. I think it is likely to cause confusion, and using LGBTQ as a noun sounds awkward and stilted. An alternate title that could work may be "Mental health of the LGBTQ Community," as it tracks with similar article titles such as "Mental health of Asian Americans." I agree in principle, as my expectation of the article title was that it would cover the history of homosexuality being diagnosed as mental illness. I am curious to hear more ideas, but I also agree that Mental health of LGBTQ people would be a fine title. Especially as a WP:BARTENDER’s close. — HTGS (talk)21:02, 12 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Mental disorders and LGBTQ → Mental health of LGBTQ people – The current name of "Mental disorders and LGBTQ" could give off the implication to some people when they see it linked on other pages that its insinuating that LGBTQ people have or are prone to having mental disorders because of their sexuality or that their sexuality or gender identity is/are a result of a mental disorder or other implications relating to causation which could be deemed offensive. "Mental health of LGBTQ people" could be a more neutral way of naming this page without such unnecessary implications. Helper201 (talk) 23:32, 12 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]
To clarify my comment, I'm talking about the use of the term "LGBTQ" as a noun in the phrase "Mental disorders and LGBTQ". Usage of words like "lesbian" and "transgender" on their own is not so relevant to this discussion, in my opinion. —Mx. Granger (talk·contribs) 21:00, 15 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Like Mx. Granger, I find the use of "LGBT" or "LGBTQ" as a noun in titles kind of odd. I've taken the liberty of moving a few pages to more suitable titles. Cremastra ‹ u — c › 01:03, 20 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]
