Question for clarification: Were there only 12 ways?

[edit]

The article says that "Under the 1947 citizenship laws, there were 12 ways that Canadian-born persons could lose citizenship", and then it lists 12 ways. Is this a completely comprehensive list – were there no other ways – or is this just a list of ways that some people consider undesirable? For example, was it not possible to renounce citizenship? —BarrelProof (talk) 02:08, 4 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Never mind. I think I understand it now, and have clarified the text accordingly. It is a description of ways that the 1947 law could cause someone to become a non-citizen who would otherwise have been considered a citizen. If that's not the correct interpretation, please respond. —BarrelProof (talk) 02:27, 4 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Is this item accurate

[edit]

One of the listed cases is this:

  • An unregistered "border baby" – a person with Canadian parents who were born in U.S. hospitals and not registered.

That it matters that the parents were born in U.S. hospitals seems slightly implausible, so I wondered whether it should say this:

  • An unregistered "border baby" – a person with Canadian parents who was born in a U.S. hospital and not registered.

Also, that is matters whether the place of birth was a hospital rather than some other location in the U.S. seems strange, so I wonder if that's what the law actually says. Michael Hardy (talk) 18:38, 1 September 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Mennonites

[edit]

The article currently mentions

... Mennonites who have been refused citizenship by the Canadian government.

No explanation is given why the Canadian government refused citizenship to Mennonites, specifically. The statement is sourced to a dead web link. Can someone clean this up, if possible including a little more explanation? --Trovatore (talk) 18:02, 5 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]
