Table in wrong order
[edit]Why is the table displaying his fight record in reverse order, showing his last fight first & his first fight last? Statistics typically always start with the earliest event at the top, then are listed downward chronologically to the latest event at the bottom. The table isn't able to be clicked to be rearranged as desired by the viewer; it's a fixed table in the wrong order.PhilOSophocle (talk) 16:19, 19 October 2014 (UTC)
Record
[edit]The reason for my edit of the Joe Louis win/loss record was due to the controversy surrounding his first fight with Arturo Godoy (it is often said that Godoy was robbed of a points decision after his brave, unafraid, impressive, and courageous battle with Louis)and his first fight with Walcott (Walcott was also said to have been robbed of a clear win after out landing and knocking Joe down). I know the "official" decision went to Joe, but I feel it should go to the true winner. Any thoughts? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Calebdaniel97 (talk • contribs) 14:32, 4 February 2015 (UTC)

Quote Source
[edit]I have looked, but have been unable to find any decent reference for the quote "Everyone has a plan until they've been hit". I was looking for video or audio recording, or possibly old newspaper footage, but the reference in the article is just a blog post by someone in bangladesh. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 208.186.226.130 (talk) 16:34, 25 June 2015 (UTC)

Joe Louis fist statue in Detroit
[edit]I have removed one sentence from the article: "Because of his efforts to fight Jim Crow laws, the fist was symbolically aimed toward the south." The article cited in the footnote does not support this interpretation.
People in Detroit have wondered for years why the fist points to Canada. Although Canada is south of Detroit, and the explanation I deleted may explain this positioning, the article does not say this. Perhaps someone can find a reliable source for this; otherwise, it remains unverifiable. Jnmwiki (talk) 15:14, 2 November 2015 (UTC)
IP edits of dubitable status - Vandalism or good removals?
[edit]https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Joe_Louis&diff=708322547&oldid=708009850 was this a valid edit??
I undid (sort of), a huge removal in the Title Contention that resulted in a sudden typoed segue at "international community/ record holder Max Baer" - could not find the deletion (2000 characters) in the history, and there were subsequent edits. It may be that someone wanted to remove the whole "Brown Bomber" section. 72.200.20.62 (talk) 23:29, 4 April 2016 (UTC) not logged in

Sentence in Legacy
[edit]The sentence "His most remarkable record is that he knocked out 23 opponents in 27 title fights, including five world champions." has a couple of problems. Calling it his most remarkable record is very subjective. How did he knock out 23 opponents when he only had 21 opponents in the 26 title fights he won? I don't think it's worth keeping, but if we do it should have a source. The cite says "Joe Louis knocked out five world champions in his career.", but he only knocked out one who was champion at the time (Braddock). He knocked out two light heavyweight champions who had vacated their titles to face him, three former heavyweight champions and one who would go on to be heavyweight champion. Should we just delete the whole sentence or try to salvage some of it?--Jahalive (talk) 17:02, 5 May 2021 (UTC)
- Because he faced some more than once. All his fights are on boxrec.--2601:3C5:8200:97E0:A087:5A23:7DFF:3485 (talk) 10:29, 7 May 2021 (UTC)
- Yes. The point I was trying to make is that the wording is poor. It should say the number of knockouts, not opponents. Is that total counting Buddy Baer's DQ as a knockout? If anything from that sentence is worth keeping, it should say something like "He had 23 knockouts in his 26 title victories.", but I'm leaning toward taking it all out.--Jahalive (talk) 15:48, 7 May 2021 (UTC)
- Done--Jahalive (talk) 17:04, 17 June 2022 (UTC)
Some important people rank him as Nr. 1 HW of all time
[edit]Of course its clear Ali is the leading candidate for being called the greatest heavyweight Boxer of all time, people like Teddy Atlas, George Foreman and Boxing historians Hank Kaplan and Bert Sugar ranked Louis as as the Nr. 1 HW of all time. In my humble opinion Ali deserves it sure, but maybe it could be menioned in this article those people rank Joe as Nr. 1.:
