Sources

[edit]

More sources for the recent decision:

I thought it better to put them here so the editors working on this page can decide which they want. (Emperor (talk) 00:09, 3 April 2008 (UTC))[reply]

Is there something since 2008? The Man of Steel (film) page refers to a 2009 decision, which can't be linked here until the decision information is updated. Gtuckerkellogg (talk) 14:52, 6 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]

WikiProject Comics B-Class Assesment required

[edit]

This article needs the B-Class checklist filled in to remain a B-Class article for the Comics WikiProject. If the checklist is not filled in by 7th August this article will be re-assessed as C-Class. The checklist should be filled out referencing the guidance given at Wikipedia:Version 1.0 Editorial Team/Assessment/B-Class criteria. For further details please contact the Comics WikiProject. Jerome/Jerry

[edit]

BTW, I remember from my childhood that in the Siegel & Shuster byeline (which I took to be a convention, or courtesy to the series creators; it may have been more precise than I knew), he was sometimes Jerome as well as sometimes Jerry. That I remember correctly is proved by the fact that I have never seen his full first name since, until I read this article.

Induction into Halls of Fame

[edit]

How could he be inducted POSTHUMOUSLY into the Halls of fame in 1992 and 1993 if he didn't die until 1996? Williamgeorgefraser 11:59, 16 February 2011 (UTC) — Preceding unsigned comment added by Williamgeorgefraser (talkcontribs)

Why has this not been changed? William Fraser mentioned it in FEBRUARY! 71.38.172.75 (talk) 04:31, 9 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I'm not sure what the text said when this was first brought up, but looking at the current article it is somewhat confusing, but the "posthumously" applies specifically to Shuster. I'm not sure how to phrase it to make it clearer, though.--Khajidha (talk) 19:11, 23 May 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Where?

[edit]

This article did not satisfy my curiosity about where Superman was born. Did Jerry Siegel spend his entire productive life n Cleveland, Ohio, or did he move to New York at some time? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 72.225.197.81 (talk) 06:11, 19 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Another BaronBifford sockpuppet?

[edit]

I have asked that an SPI be opened regarding User:JungLiao, whose pattern of editing and whose sudden appearance on Sept. 1, days after BaronBifford was blocked, suggests that BaronBifford was returned.--Tenebrae (talk) 15:03, 6 October 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Today's edits

[edit]

Now that I have gone through the incredible number of edits made by User:Kurzon over the past several days, addressing primarily uncited claims, POV conclusions and non-encyclopedic WP:TONE, as well as minor MOS issues and — again as last year — his desire to put two spaces after sentences, which we don't do. With these very specific edits reverted, I ask that Kurzon not revert back nd edit-war but, per WP:BRD, bring his concerns to this talk page.

Also, though I have not the time to work on this now, prose is preferred to mid-prose lists, and stub sections should be merged under larger organizational points.--Tenebrae (talk) 21:19, 10 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Agostino

[edit]

@Tenebrae: I don't understand why you don't trust Lauren Agostino's book. It's self-published. So what? It's not like most publishers subject their books to peer review. Kurzon (talk) 18:14, 20 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]

We've already had one admin say that this WP:SPS is non-RS. And you're defiantly trying to include it again. Do we need to bring him back into this discussion? The book isn't available anymore; it's been withdrawn from Amazon. That is not a reliable source.--Tenebrae (talk) 20:07, 20 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]
I quote from Talk:Superman ownership disputes: "The book is self-published and should not be considered reliable: According to his LinkedIn account, Agostino, co-author of the book, is CEO of Holmes & Watson Publishing, the publisher (which, as far as I can tell, only ever published this one book). Huon (talk) 22:34, 30 April 2018 (UTC)" --Tenebrae (talk) 20:12, 20 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]
And incidentally, I find it remarkably disingenuous that you would say "I don't understand why you don't trust Lauren Agostino's book" when you read Huon's statement same as I. Do not take me or admins for fools. --Tenebrae (talk) 20:14, 20 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Me being an admin doesn't give me any greater clout than other editors in disputes about the reliability of sources. That said, I stand by my comments in the previous discussion about the book: It's self-published, not subject to any editorial oversight (and contrary to what Kurzon says, reputable publishers do have an editorial staff that reviews manuscripts submitted for publication), not a reliable source. It shouldn't be used. Huon (talk) 22:16, 20 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]

{[edit conflict}}

@Huon: Thank you for responding, and I didn't mean to give a misimpression. I should have specified that I mentioned you were an admin solely to note that Kurtzon's behavior upon his return from a year's block has been noted by an admin, and that repeatedly using a non-WP:RS source is not the kind of thing admins, who can block him again, look upon kindly. Again, thank you for stepping in.--Tenebrae (talk) 22:27, 20 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]
If I were to contact Agostino and have her send me scans of the letters to Siegel and Shuster that cite those figures, would you accept that as evidence? Kurzon (talk) 22:23, 20 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]
That would be OR, and in addition, without any other historian whatsoever verifying these purported letters, there is no way to know they're real and not fakes. Unknown Siegel and Shuster letters suddenly materializing after 80 years and not attracting the attention of the press and comics historians? I'm not so sure. --Tenebrae (talk) 22:27, 20 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]

I found a court document that listed the earnings of Siegel and Shuster between 1937 and 1947. It corroborates Agostino's book. I couldn't find anything in the court records giving the average pay for a DC employee. I can cite a court document, can't I? This all comes down to authenticity, right? This document was submitted in at least two court cases, and never challenged by either party. Kurzon (talk) 09:53, 28 June 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Work in British Comics

[edit]

Unfortunately I don't know the details, but it seems strange there is not even a mention of his working for British Comics such as Lion in the 60's. This is referenced in the article on The Spider but not even mentioned here.

I don't feel qualified to update the article, and felt a note here was the best I could do. Dhericean (talk) 08:55, 17 October 2019 (UTC)[reply]

We may need to up-date the current equivalency of some figures

[edit]

The figures related to his selling the rights to Superman come from a 10-year-old source. We may want to update them to a more recent equivalancy.John Pack Lambert (talk) 19:39, 6 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]

The inflation template automatically adjusts the figures to the latest available year for which data is available. Kurzon (talk) 10:47, 7 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]
