Conflict of interest

[edit]

At least one major contributor to this article appears to have a close personal or professional connection to the topic, and thus to have a conflict of interest. Conflict-of-interest editors are strongly discouraged from editing the article directly, but are always welcome to propose changes on the talk page (i.e., here). You can attract the attention of other editors by putting {{request edit}} (exactly so, with the curly parentheses) at the beginning of your request, or by clicking the link on the lowest yellow notice above. Requests that are not supported by independent reliable sources are unlikely to be accepted.

Please also note that our Terms of Use state that "you must disclose your employer, client, and affiliation with respect to any contribution for which you receive, or expect to receive, compensation." An editor who contributes as part of his or her paid employment is required to disclose that fact. Justlettersandnumbers (talk) 08:13, 1 July 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Jason Pomeroy Wikipedia Page

[edit]

Hi @Doc James: @There'sNoTime:,

Firstly, apologies in advance for the small essay below. As you can see I have resubmitted the Jason Pomeroy Wikipedia page with changes. These changes are mostly significant cuts to the original, plus amendments to language where I saw fit.

I have fully reviewed various Wikipedia guideline pages, including but not limited to: Notability, What Wikipedia is not, Conflict of interest

Below I have articulated my thought process and why I believe this should meet Wikipedia guidelines explained in the above links. Please review and let me know if you have any further questions, concerns or amendments:

Notability – I believe that this meets the Wikipedia Notability guidelines. Prof. Pomeroy is one of the leading eco-architects based in Asia, and has designed numerous ‘firsts’, including Asia’s first carbon zero home (Idea House) and Singapore’s first carbon-negative home (B House), he is also an established author (four books) and TV personality, with his own built environment TV shows on the largest (Southeast Asia-based) station, Channel NewsAsia. These achievements are not recent, but have occurred over a significant period of time.

Pomeroy has received significant amounts of news coverage over many years, ranging from smaller articles in local publications (Straits Times, South China Morning Post, New Straits Times) to more significant coverage in international titles (NYT, WSJ, BBC etc). His coverage is more than trivial, and allows us to reference the text appropriately. I understand that just because he has media coverage it does not make him Notable, however his projects are real and have received real endorsements (such as the Green Mark Platinum Award for B House, from Singapore’s Building Construction Authority’s (BCA))

Referencing – as much as possible the text has been referenced, especially data and stats. The references are kept to reputable, reliable, trusted sources wherever possible (such as CNN, New York Times, mainstream in-market publications etc) to ensure third-party neutrality and integrity – there are no self-published sources. There are some references that come from company websites / press releases, although this these are minority and (and the corresponding text) can certainly be removed/edited.

Language – I have endeavoured to keep the language as neutral and encyclopaedic as possible, keeping to referenced facts and avoiding promotional language. Of course, this can be subjective, but a formal tone has been kept throughout. There are instances where the language can be perceived as promotional (such as: The series received a ‘highly commended’ award at the Asia TV awards in 2015), however I have ensured these areas are referenced.

I have cut down significantly from the previous article, only keep what I believe is relevant.

I have used the following profile pages as guidance for language and content:

Pomeroy’s projects – the B House and Idea House – have received independent coverage and recognition over the course of many years. He has become a ‘go to’ expert on eco issues surrounding the built environment in the tropics, of which he is an established expert. B House and Idea House are two of his most prominent and I believe should be listed in the page

Disclosure – I have fully noted all COI in both my main talk page and the subject’s talk page

Advice

[edit]

It's necessary to be careful using existing WP pages as models:

  1. there are several hundred thousand articles in WP accepted in earlier years when the standards were lower that we need to either upgrade or remove. The least we can do is not add to them.
  2. the sort of writing and detail accepted in one field does not necessarily apply to another--for example, we include more extensive personal details in bios of performers (such as Sevigny) than in other fields, because this reflects the coverage of the sources and the likely interest of readers. .
  3. WP:EINSTEIN, particularly in respect to Foster. DGG ( talk ) 00:26, 6 September 2017 (UTC)[reply]

@DGG: - thank you, understood and noted.

Teaching positions

[edit]

The many sources that reproduce, more or less verbatim, Pomeroy's CV say that he teaches at James Cook University (though without specifying where), at the IUAV and at the University of Nottingham, but as far as I can see none of those three institutions lists him as a faculty member. He's listed as an honorary professor at Nottingham. I suggest that the other teaching positions should be removed pending clear confirmation. Justlettersandnumbers (talk) 13:25, 13 September 2017 (UTC)[reply]

@Justlettersandnumbers: - Pomeroy is Malaysian-British. Inaccurate to state just British. Relevant references here:

Please may you change?

Firm

[edit]

Pomeroy's firm, Pomeroy Studio, is an 'evidence based interdisciplinary sustainable design firm' - it is not an architectural practice, and would be inaccurate to describe it as such.

@Justlettersandnumbers: - Would you please change this? Current text is not accurate.

@Justlettersandnumbers: - Would like to ping you once more on the above. Current description is not accurate. Let me know if you can change this.

Ojellerton, a few hints:
  • Pings don't work unless you sign you post with four tildes (~~~~)
  • There are instructions higher up this page (in § Conflict of interest) on how to use {{request edit}} to request changes to the article
  • This isn't an advertising platform; nonsensical (and ungrammatical) PR-speak such as "evidence based interdisciplinary sustainable design firm" has no place here (people often have websites where they can post that sort of stuff).
I've removed the sentence about his practice. Justlettersandnumbers (talk) 11:54, 29 September 2017 (UTC)[reply]

As I explained, Jason Pomeroy does not 'build', he 'designs'. Can you change back to the correct version that I wrote?

If you were referring to the second sentence in the article, I have fixed that, since the distinction is made clear by the news articles cited. Altamel (talk) 05:28, 9 October 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Scope of Work

[edit]

I made an edit about 12 days ago clarifying Pomeroy's scope of work. Currently it states that 'He has designed energy-efficient houses in Malaysia and Singapore'.

This misrepresents what he does.

I tried to add: He has designed sustainable developments ranging from zero-carbon houses to smart cities throughout Asia.

Which is more accurate. Granted, my sourcing could have been better. I have added two more here: http://www.bllnr.sg/art-design/how-to-design-a-sustainable-urban-city http://thepeakmagazine.com.sg/interviews/meet-the-multifaceted-jason-pomeroy-eco-architect-tv-host-author-and-avid-traveller/

Basically he has done more than simply design energy efficient homes in Singapore and Malaysia. He has designed projects in Philippines, Indonesia, and other countries. Current wording is not accurate. Happy to hear thoughts, but would appreciate if my edits could be reconsidered. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Mrenriqueza (talkcontribs) 06:36, 31 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Undisclosed paid editing

[edit]

I have added an {{undisclosed paid}} tag to this article because of extensive editing by a spam sockfarm. Please see Wikipedia:Sockpuppet investigations/125BOP for evidence. --Blablubbs (talk) 11:18, 20 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]

The early versions of the page, from when it was started until disclosure was finally made with this edit, were also WP:UPE. Justlettersandnumbers (talk) 16:40, 20 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]
