Thatcher meeting
[edit]Margaret Thatcher's memoirs "The Downing Street Years" (Harper Collins, 1993) have a slightly different account of the events of 31st March 1982. In particular, it says that Sir Henry Leach was in civilian dress on the evening in question, and was briefly detained in the Central Lobby of the House of Commons while on his way to a meeting that had been called by Margaret Thatcher at the request of John Nott.— Preceding unsigned comment added by 81.155.185.126 (talk • contribs) 17:06, 1 May 2007
- OK. I have removed any mention of uniform and location. Dormskirk (talk) 15:58, 27 August 2012 (UTC)
Prince of Wales sinking
[edit]The reference to Captain John Leach "choosing to go down with the ship" is supposition at best. No-one can know what he decided to do on that day. As captain he would probably have wanted to ensure that all his crew got safely off before leaving the ship himself. Maybe he just left it too late and he may have been ordered off by Admiral Phillips. There is documented evidence by Lieutenant W.M. Graham of HMS Prince of Wales that Captain Leach was later found dead in the water wearing a partially filled navy pattern lifebelt. This suggests an attempt to swim away from the ship rather than going down with her. This is mentioned in "Battleship" by Middlebrook and Mahoney. I am altering the sentence in question to reflect this. --Andy Wade (talk) 10:31, 30 August 2008 (UTC)
