  • Adding some new info that relates to the Chaush last name.

Chaush actually extended all the way down to southern Europe, Bosnia. Once Slavicilization occurred in the Balkan region, the 'Chaush' last name was modified with the local prefix of '(e)vic' meaning 'son of Čauš'. or in Bosnian, 'Čaušević'. Čaušević is the second most common last name in Bosnia as well and almost all Causevic families are of Bosniak (Bosnian Muslim) ethnic stock. A significant Bosniak population in Montenegro also holds many Čauš family roots. More information is available via Bosnian Wikipedia: http://bs.wikipedia.org/wiki/Čaušević

A famous 'Chaush' in Bosnia was Mehmed Džemaludin ef. Čaušević (1870 – 28 March 1938) a Bosniak reformer and imam.

Balkan Chaushs

[edit]

Any proof that Balkan and South Asian Chaush people share the same heritage? Or any source proving Balkan Chaush people also claim Arab ancestry? In Turkish (and some other Turkic languages) "Chaush" means "Sergeant" and those Balkan Chaushs can be descendants of some another people who were serving in Ottoman army, not having of Hadhrami Arab roots. In Bosnian wiki there is no info about their ancestry and etc. Bests, Ali-al-Bakuvi (talk) 23:16, 29 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]
