Highest-Earning Female Singers

4. Beyonce Knowles (35 million while resting at home)

Done Oz talk 11:30, 4 January 2012 (UTC)

2010-11 and 2011-present

In 2010-11 and 2011-present you repeat the same news: "Knowles was placed fourth on Forbes magazine's 2011 list of the "Top-Earning Women In Music" for earning $35 million." You should remove on 2011-present, are already there in 2010-11!: ("In June 2011, Forbes placed Knowles eighth on its list of "Best-Paid Celebrities Under 30" for earning $35 million between the months of May 2010 and 2011. Forbes noted that was low placement for Knowles was due to the fact she spent most of the past year off the road and recording her then upcoming fourth studio album.")

They are both different lists. Beyonce was still on a break in early 2011. The section was getting too long so I separated it. Oz talk 00:57, 5 January 2012 (UTC)

New Image

I'm not going to attempt to change the image on here as I'll most likely do it wrong, but surely there's a more recent image of her that could be used? The current one is a month short of being 4 years old! Angelic-alyssa (talk) 15:05, 13 April 2011 (UTC)

If you can suggest one I will be very open to changing it. Adabow (talk · contribs) 05:47, 14 April 2011 (UTC)
I've changed the image to one from her I Am... Tour. But if anyone doesn't like it, then it can be changed to a different one. Ozurbanmusic (talk) 06:07, 14 April 2011 (UTC)
Please do not get me wrong. I really do not like this image. We should find one that really lays emphasis on her face but recent. Maybe 2010 or 2011. Jivesh Talk2Me 17:53, 14 April 2011 (UTC)
I work with Beyonce's management team (Parkwood Entertainment) and they are not all that happy with this photo either. I have uploaded an approved photo I received from Parkwood to Wikimedia Commons and I will try to change the image to that photo. (Parkwood controls the copyright in the photograph.) gsshatan (talk) —Preceding undated comment added 23:50, 4 January 2012 (UTC).
I couldn't find that image you uploaded but I've changed the image to one that shows more of her face (which is important). I hope you like it. Oz talk 00:26, 5 January 2012 (UTC)
Gsshatan, the image you uploaded to Commons was, or appeared to be, a copyright violation. If Beyonce's reps have given permission to use an image, it should probably go through OTRS. As for this new image, while it is a front view and shows her full face, the quality and lighting is significantly poorer. I personally prefer the previous image. —Andrewstalk 00:41, 5 January 2012 (UTC)
I personally don't like the previous image because the microphone is blocking her mouth lol. But if quality is the problem then you can revert it back. Oz talk 00:51, 5 January 2012 (UTC)
Thank you for posting the new image. This photo is preferable, according to her representatives. I do see the point about the lighting, though. I am going to need to put the photo that her reps supplied through OTRS. It's not a copyright violation; the image is owned by one of her companies (it acquired the copyright from the photographer,Tony Duran) and it was provided to Time Magazine on a one-time use basis and used on their cover earlier this year. That's all too complicated for the standard upload procedure as far as I can tell....Gsshatan (talk) 16:19, 5 January 2012 (UTC)
The image I received from her reps and posted to Commons (Beyonce Knowles with necklaces) has now been approved by OTRS. I have posted this image in the infobox. I think I did this correctly, but if there are any issues, please let me know. Thank you for your assistance with this. Gsshatan (talk) 00:24, 9 January 2012 (UTC)

Beyonce Gives Birth To a Baby Girl

The 30-year-old pop singer gave birth to a baby girl late last night (Jan. 7) in NYC, according to The Houston Chronicle. According to reports, the baby girl's name is Ivy Blue Carter; E! Online News writes that the name is Blue Ivy Carter, although #ivyblue became a worldwide trending topic on Twitter immediately after the news broke.

The whole fake pregnancy thing

So I have to admit, the whole Beyonce "fake pregnancy" thing seems like something I would see in a tabloid, not an encyclopedia. Doesn't really meet the definition of what should be in an encyclopedia, considering I've now even spent considerable time trying to find reliable sources to get any info on it, and couldn't find anything. Maybe once someone I trust actually says something reasonable about it, I could get behind it, but as of right now I think it's probably best to leave it out. Over time I suspect this is one of those things that will just fade into obscurity. --Shirik (Questions or Comments?) 16:12, 10 January 2012 (UTC)

  • Sorry Jivesh, but honestly, I cannot consider such rumors about pregnant bellies collapsing inward to be encyclopaedic. This was gossip, not even news-worthy stuff. So what if Knowles responded to it, it's a bit libel-ish and something one photographer/blogger decided to get famous by doing. And this guy who decided to start the craze is not notable in anyway, unlike an artist who would accuse another of plagiarism. This is a biography and every effort must be made to have the most important and neutral details only.
Many reliable sources have discussed it, but by the looks of it, they all say the exact same thing and it is simply because it is Beyoncé Knowles and not some other unnotable person. The media will release a press regarding anything that has to do with a huge pop star, no matter how dumb or ridiculous it is. So I'll have to support the revert and ask that it not be added. Thanks, —WP:PENGUIN · [ TALK ] 01:32, 11 January 2012 (UTC)
  • I have to agree with Penguin too. Wikipedia, is an encyclopedia and as Shirik said, the pregnancy thing sounds "tabloid-y". It's just irrelevant to the article. Novice7 (talk) 04:21, 11 January 2012 (UTC)

Beyoncé's security guards

Someone deleted the following:

"In early 2012 when Beyoncé was in the hospital to give birth, her security guards repeatedly prevented Neil Coulon, 38, of Brooklyn, from visiting his wife and their two newly born premature daughters.[1]"

The editor who removed it commented:

"This is not relevant here."

But it is relevant here. The article is about Beyoncé, who she is, what she does, how she treats people, how she is thought of in the public eye, etc. It should be put back into the article.

What do other editors think about including or not including this information?

"Buying Beyonce" Beyonce sells new dream, says Professor - In an article that was written for Celebrity Studies (a journal that focuses on analyzing celebrity, stardom and fame) titled “Buying Beyonce”, Ellis Cashmore says that Beyonce’s ability to sell her brand that extends beyond music and into movies, clothing, ringtones and perfume proves to people that racism is over. Although Cashmore acknowledges that Beyonce may be seen as a symbol of the change in people’s thinking’s regarding racism, he states that it is a bit misleading because the USA is still “mired in its past.” “In a sense she is unique,” Ellis says referring to Beyonce. “Her earnings and her influence make her the most globally conspicuously successful black woman this side of Oprah, and, remember, she isn’t 29 till September.” http://www.music-news.com/shownews.asp?nItemID=35760

INFLUENCES

- Josephine Baker

Beyoncé Knowles has portrayed Baker on various accounts throughout her career. During the 2006 Fashion Rocks show, Knowles performed "Dejá Vu" in a revised version of the Danse banane costume. In Knowles's video for "Naughty Girl", she is seen dancing in a huge champagne glass á La Baker. In I Am... Yours: An Intimate Performance at Wynn Las Vegas, Beyonce lists Baker as an influence of a section of her live show. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Josephine_Baker

When Beyonce performed at the 2008 Fashion Rocks 5th Anniversary, she paid homage to Ms. Baker by wearing her own skirt of bananas and appearing on stage with a bevy of background dancers in the same costume. As a backdrop for Beyonce’s performance several larger than life photographs of Josephine Baker were revealed on stage, exposing a whole new generation to the legendary icon. http://www.ammomag.com/1068553/Josephine-Baker-Fashion-Icon

Influenced her album B'Day: "I wanted to be more like Josephine Baker, because she didn't, she seemed like she just was possessed and it seemed like she just danced from her, her heart, and everything was so free,". Beyonce echoed her beliefs. "This record sounds like a woman possessed. It sounds like a woman that is kind of desperate, and I wanted it to just come from the soul. I just did whatever happened there," http://abcnews.go.com/GMA/SummerConcert/story?id=2404367&page=1

- Etta James

"This is a huge loss. Etta James was one of the greatest vocalists of our time. I am so fortunate to have met such a queen. Her musical contributions will last a lifetime. Playing Etta James taught me so much about myself, and singing her music inspired me to be a stronger artist. When she effortlessly opened her mouth, you could hear her pain and triumph. Her deeply emotional way of delivering a song told her story with no filter. She was fearless, and had guts. She will be missed." http://www.beyonceonline.com/us/news/beyoncé-pays-tribute-eternally-great-etta-james — Preceding unsigned comment added by 79.168.190.124 (talk) 20:52, 20 January 2012 (UTC)

Please don't comment on my courtesy. I know practically everything about Beyonce. She has played in so many movies and yet none of them refer to her by her married name. They say Beyonce Knowles. "I know practically everything about Beyonce" – really? I doubt it. But in any case, you should learn to be tolerate of other editors' opinions. This is a perfectly good faith move request. It may fail. But you shouldn't come out claiming it to be "pointless", just make your opinion known in a neutral tone and move on. The Rambling Man (talk) 18:14, 23 February 2012 (UTC)

I'm the idiot - the link I provided was to Beyonce' "the character"! <cringes in embarrassemnt> :'~( --Hodgdon's secret garden (talk) 20:59, 29 February 2012 (UTC)
Her personal twitter acct is at CarterKnowles LINK, her Facebook page is at Beyonce' Giselle Knowles Carter LINK her private myspace page is at BeyonceKnowles Carter LINK, and here is a news report LINK and here is reference to a legal filing using her present full legal name LINK.--Hodgdon's secret garden (talk) 21:13, 29 February 2012 (UTC)
The Courthouse News link refers to her as "Knowles-Carter", "Knowles", and "Carter", so I'm not going to give it any credence. http://twitter.com/#!/CarterKnowles labels her as "Beyonce Knowles" and points to http://www.facebook.com/beyonce as the Facebook page, which uses only "Beyonce". http://twitter.com/#!/CarterKnowles has only 29 followers, while http://twitter.com/#!/Beyonce has 3,298,490: I know which one I will get on, and the real page doesn't use "Carter". http://www.facebook.com/pages/Beyoncé-Giselle-Knowles-Carter/174232052596991 looks like a fanpage. I don't see any use of "Carter" by a credible source.—Kww(talk) 23:10, 29 February 2012 (UTC)
Well - guess folks see what they want. IAC to those without a predetermined agenda: The news article at Courthouse merely references the name on the legal filing (after all lawyers get paid big bucks to first verify and then utilize the correct legal name of those they sue), the facebook page is the subject's page for her fans where she posts baby pix and the like and her twitter acct only has a handful of followers because the tweets are readable only by those she's allowed access. And you neglected to mention the Boston Globe item about her adoption of the hyphenated surname.--Hodgdon's secret garden (talk) 00:17, 1 March 2012 (UTC)
I don't know why you would think I have a "predetermined agenda". I had missed the Boston.com link when I was checking your sources, but it only indicates a plan. Any source for the paperwork having been approved? We had a similar problem with the "Destiny Hope Cyrus" to "Miley Cyrus" name change: piles of sources that presumed it had happened months before it actually happened.—Kww(talk) 00:50, 1 March 2012 (UTC)
Geez, Kww, you asked for a single source and I gave count-em five and I could have included many more, but apparently my doing so would be hopeless. If Miss Knowles herself uses the hypenated form on her personal social media accounts (per the guidelines stating that self-published primary sources are considered reliable about the author of the same, herself) and news reports reference her as utilizing that form, What is the problem with the sourcing of the same? Then as for your quibble goes regarding the Courthouse News Svc piece <This is complicated, um ostensibly, so I'll speak slowly....I know, I'm being a d*ck...lol>:
  1. Yep, Courthouse News refers to Miss Knowles as Knowles. Why? Because that is the last name by which the artist is reknowns and Courthouse News is a a group of professional journalists.
  2. Then, the report references the legal filing, which references Miss Knowles with her hyphenated, legal married last name of Knowles-Carter. Why? Because Courthouse News is a professional legal publication and that information is pertinent to their news report.
  3. Finally, Courthouse News quotes the legal brief as referencing Miss Knowles as (Mrs.) Carter. Why? (See the professional way of dealing with quotes that even WP abides by MOS:QUOTE#Quotations here.) Yes, because that is the way the brief-being-quoted actually reads! (I.e., in formal legalese, someone with a hyphenated married name can be referenced by one or the other depending on whether one wants to reference the individual's unmarried surname or their married surname. [Vaguely related to such choices, compare, e.g., this profile of Victorian English novelist Edward Bulwer-Lytton the novelist is usually referenced simply as Bulwer owing to the fact that that is the surname of the family he was born into. Yet, the biographical blurb at the website for the tongue-in-cheek Annual Bulwer-Lytton Contest references the author as Lytton as short for his titled name pertaining to his "lordship" status (a la Lord Byron as Byron...).])

However, the whole issue is at best tangential because the move request would be to her stage name of simply Beyonce', in any case.--Hodgdon's secret garden (talk) 20:21, 1 March 2012 (UTC)

It isn't tangential because your justification is basically that "Beyoncé Knowles" is now incorrect, but you haven't demonstrated that she has stopped using it. You haven't demonstrated that the social media sites you are are referencing are actually her, you've provided a citation to a plan to change her name, and you've provided one reference that may or may not support your case. Unconvincing at best.—Kww(talk) 00:44, 2 March 2012 (UTC)

It is the "same difference" between http://www.britneyspears.com and http://www.britney.com. We need to treat both like official sites. I've put the info in the fourth paragraph. Oz talk 22:31, 25 April 2012 (UTC)

I think it will be better like this in the third paragraph: (are better and in accordance with the dates and subjects)

Apart from her work in music, Knowles has also ventured into acting and designing clothes and perfumes. She made her acting debut in the musical film Carmen: A Hip Hopera (2001), prior to appearing in major films, including Austin Powers in Goldmember (2002), Dreamgirls (2006), which earned her two Golden Globe nominations, Cadillac Records (2008) and Obsessed (2009). In 2005, Knowles and her mother introduced their family's fashion line, House of Deréon, and in 2010, she released her first perfume, Heat. She has endorsed brands including, L'Oréal, Pepsi, Tommy Hilfiger, Nintendo and Vizio. In April 2008, Knowles married American rapper Jay-Z. In 2010, Knowles was ranked first on Forbes list of the "100 Most Powerful and Influential Musicians in the World",[4] and second on its list of the "100 Most Powerful and Influential Celebrities in the World".[5] In April 2012, she was named "World's Most Beautiful Woman" by People magazine.

The marriaged there (on fourth paragraph) has no sense for me, since it was in 2008.. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 79.168.164.50 (talk) 22:46, 25 April 2012 (UTC)

I have moved the people magazine sentence into the third paragraph. And I've mentioned Blue Ivy in the marriage sentence so it doesn't look awkward. Looking at the other good articles, info about personal lives are mentioned last. Oz talk 01:22, 26 April 2012 (UTC)
Why do you think useless nonsense like this belongs in the lead? In what way is a magazine promotional item of one of these imaginary "Top 100" things important enough to be one of the key things that someone that only reads four paragraphs about Beyonce should know? Especially if you don't even think it's important enough to include in the article itself? The lead is supposed to be a summary of the article, including only things that are in the article, and presenting a concise summary of the topic. This kind of thing doesn't qualify under any criteria.—Kww(talk) 02:09, 26 April 2012 (UTC)

Influences

Beyoncé about Michael Jackson:

"When I was just starting out, my first producer used to make me listen to Michael Jackson’s live performance of “Who’s Loving You.” He would have me watch that for hours back to back to back. What he wanted me to learn was his soul. You could hear his soul. And he was this little kid who hadn’t experienced love but he was a vessel. For whatever reason he could evoke more emotion than an adult. It was so raw and so pure. It was these little things that he did that were just swag. It’s something that’s God given. Michael taught me that sometimes you have to forget technique, forget what you have on. If you feel silly, you have to go from the gut just let it go. Michael Jackson changed me, and helped me to become the artist I am - thank you Michael."

The World Humanitarian Day music video for Beyoncé’s song “I Was Here” will be filmed in the UN General Assembly Hall in New York in front of a live audience. It will be released globally on 19 August. Beyoncé and songwriter Diane Warren are donating the video to the campaign. The campaign website, which is launched today, provides everyone with an opportunity to unite and share his or her individual acts of good. On 19 August, the campaign aims to reach 1 billion people in a day with a single message.

“We all see the headlines and we think what can I really do to help?”, said Beyoncé. “World Humanitarian Day is an opportunity for all of us to work together to make a difference. This is our time to leave our mark on the world and show that we were here and we care.”

Surrogate motherhood rumors

There is some evidence out there that Beyonce's pregnancy was via a surrogate mother. Whether or not this is actually true we should at least mention the rumors then Beyonce's denials so that this article doesn't read like a press release.--71.190.16.143 (talk) 21:47, 16 October 2012 (UTC)

-Elizabeth Sneed, "Proof that Beyonce Used a Surrogate Mother", Hollywood Reporter, October 2011. -Anya Leon, Mom & Babies: Surrocacy Rumors Were 'Just Crazy', People, 4/29/12. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 71.190.16.143 (talk) 22:03, 16 October 2012 (UTC)

No. This has been discussed before (see Talk:Beyoncé Knowles/Archive 8#The whole fake pregnancy thing). — Oz (talk) 21:59, 16 October 2012 (UTC)
"No", what? That discussion lasted exactly a day. Could we reopen it?--71.190.16.143 (talk) 22:10, 16 October 2012 (UTC)
"No" it won't be added. Rumors/gossip are not encyclopedic and should NOT be included in biography articles. — Oz (talk) 22:20, 16 October 2012 (UTC)
But the careers of such celebrities ARE based on rumor and gossip. Some of the content in here, although not gossip and no doubt impressive, I wouldn't say is encyclopedic.
-For example: "In addition, data from Google Insights showed that the most searched for term from August 29, 2011 to September 4, 2011 was 'Beyonce pregnant' which reached 'breakout' levels – a term used by Google to describe a search with an increase of over 5,000 percent." even though we already have:
-"The Huffington Post later confirmed that Knowles was 5 months pregnant and her pregnancy announcement had broken the 'most tweets per second recorded for a single event' Twitter record, receiving 8,868 tweets per second."
I mean, are we a celebrity press service or what?--71.190.16.143 (talk) 22:47, 16 October 2012 (UTC)
If you have GOOD, CONVINCING evidence to re-open the discussion, I see no reason why not. As stated in Wikipedia's rules here.--Aichikawa (talk) 17:33, 17 October 2012 (UTC)
I do. Note from her article she gave birth early January 2012. Calculate then, that Blue Ivy was conceived early April 2011.
1. This is her, late June 2011, when she was nearly 3 months pregnant, on the French X-Factor. This page confirms the date of that performance as 6/28/11. In Europe they write it "28/06/11." Notice the table dance in heels, and jumping off the table. Why would a celebrity with a high-risk pregnancy really be performing so strenuously?

2. This is her on Good Morning America, a mere four days later. And another clip from the same show. Watch that at 1:30. Here is a source about her height. So those heels are 4 to 5 inches.

3. Here she is again, in Ireland, about a week later. Look at the video at 0:29, 1:12, and 2:14. At 1:12 you will see that her thighs are skinnier than the backup singer's on the left. Here is a link to the Wikipedia page that gives evidence of the dates for Oxegen that year.

4. This story gives the date of the video shoot for the song "Party," August 2, 2011, so she was almost 4 months pregnant. Look at her then.

5. This is perhaps the most laughable. After she shows that she is allegedly pregnant at the Video Music Awards, which we say "gets 8,868 tweets per second", she is photographed at a Tory Burch opening like this. Both BET and this source show the date as Sept. 13 or 14, or when she is 5-and-a-half months pregnant. This is what pregnancy at the end of second trimester, which means at the end of 6 months, is supposed to look like.--24.103.25.189 (talk) 19:40, 19 October 2012 (UTC)
Regarding #5, it doesn't necessarily mean that the belly of 5-and-a-half months pregnant look the same in every woman. It is an individualized process, every pregnancy is different, even in the same woman. My sister who was pregnant at 7 months, no one ever noticed her pregnancy including me. Let others response to your other evidences. :) jmarkfrancia (talk) 10:07, 20 October 2012 (UTC)
Judging by the photo of you, this makes perfect sense as your sister is likely also be skinny. But Beyonce is not. Which adds to her charm but would less likely produce a figure like your sister's. Look, I'm a fan as anyone else. Please wait while I add more examples.--24.103.25.189 (talk) 15:21, 20 October 2012 (UTC)

BEYONCÉ IN AN INTIMATE, REVEALING DOCUMENTARY FILM DEBUTING FEB. 16, 2013, EXCLUSIVELY ON HBO Multiple Grammy®-winner, entrepreneur and actress Beyoncé will be the focus of an intimate feature-length HBO documentary film debuting Feb. 16, 2013, it was announced today by Michael Lombardo, president, HBO Programming. Directed by the superstar, the film is a fusion of video that provides raw, unprecedented access to the private entertainment icon and high-voltage performances. “Everybody knows Beyoncé’s music, but few know Beyoncé the person,” said Lombardo. “Along with electrifying footage of Beyoncé onstage, this unique special looks beyond the glamour to reveal a vibrant, vulnerable, unforgettable woman.” “HBO has a history of pushing every boundary with class and authenticity,” said Beyoncé. “Some of my favorite shows are on HBO, so I am excited that my film will be part of its bold programming. This film was so personal to me, it had to have the right home." The film is a multi-faceted portrait of the 16-time Grammy Award-winning singer, businesswoman, songwriter, actress, entrepreneur, wife and mother, showing off the extraordinary gifts that have made her a global phenomenon, and stripping away the veneer of stardom. It includes extensive first-person footage, some of it shot by Beyoncé on her laptop, in which she reflects on the realities of celebrity, the refuge she finds onstage and the transcendent joy of becoming a mother last year. The film sheds light on her childhood in Houston, with home movies revealing the close bond she built with her family and charts the challenges Beyoncé felt when she decided to manage her career and build her own company, Parkwood Entertainment. The film also captures the intense physical and emotional demands she goes through in the studio, preparing for live performances, running a business and her family life including her return to the spotlight after the birth of her daughter, Blue Ivy Carter, in January 2012. Beyoncé also serves as the film’s executive producer.

2012

It's so much more than this: "In December, it was announced that Knowles had partnered with Pepsi in a deal estimated at $50 million. As reported by Billboard, Pepsi "will sponsor a variety of unspecified creative projects for Beyonce as well as help promote the singer's upcoming fifth studio album.""

Take a look at: http://www.nytimes.com/2012/12/10/business/media/in-beyonce-deal-pepsi-focuses-on-collaboration.html?pagewanted=1&_r=0

FOR its campaign with Beyoncé next year, Pepsi doesn’t just want to sign up the telegenic pop star for another TV commercial. It also wants to get into the Beyoncé business.

In an expansion of the recent marketing experiments that have brought PepsiCo ever closer to the music industry, the company has embarked on a hybrid project with Beyoncé that will include standard advertising like commercials as well as a multimillion-dollar fund to support the singer’s chosen creative projects.

“Pepsi embraces creativity and understands that artists evolve,” Beyoncé said in a statement. “As a businesswoman, this allows me to work with a lifestyle brand with no compromise and without sacrificing my creativity.”

The campaign will coincide with a blitz of promotion for her next album, which has no title or release date so far but is expected in 2013. Sometime after she performs at the Super Bowl halftime show on Feb. 3 (also sponsored by Pepsi), Beyoncé will appear in a new TV ad — her fifth for the soft drink since 2002 — and her face will be on a limited-edition line of soda cans.

The less conventional aspects of the deal are meant as collaborative projects that indulge Beyoncé’s creative whims, and might well have no explicit connection to Pepsi products. They are still at the brainstorm stage, but could include live events, videos, “a cool photo shoot” or almost anything else, said Lee Anne Callahan-Longo, the general manager of Parkwood Entertainment, Beyoncé’s company.

For Pepsi, the goal is to enhance its reputation with consumers by acting as something of an artistic patron instead of simply paying for celebrity endorsements.

“Consumers are seeking a much greater authenticity in marketing from the brands they love,” said Brad Jakeman, president of PepsiCo’s global beverage group. “It’s caused a shift in the way we think about deals with artists, from a transactional deal to a mutually beneficial collaboration.”

The multiyear campaign is estimated at $50 million, the bulk of it for media placements and promotions around the world, and the remainder split roughly equally between Beyoncé’s fee and what Pepsi calls a creative content development fund.

(...)

Pepsi’s deal with Beyoncé is an outgrowth of ventures like Green Label Sound, but on a scale befitting her superstar stature.

“It’s wise for a brand like Pepsi to give an artist the ability to truly express herself,” said Ms. Callahan-Longo, of Beyoncé’s company, “instead of just the old-school way of, ‘Do you want to be in an advertisement?’ ”

“This is much bigger,” she added. “This is, ‘How can we create something together that is truly unique?’ ” — Preceding unsigned comment added by 95.93.166.177 (talk) 12:29, 10 December 2012 (UTC)

Under the first part of the "Biography" section, it mentions Kelly Rowland as a childhood friend, when really Rowland is Knowles's cousin. 184.1.115.218 (talk) 20:48, 28 December 2012 (UTC)

Do you have a source backing this up? If so, please post it here. Be careful because I do remember hearing this some time ago, but I dismissed it as a colloquial term of affection ("cousin"). Adabow (talk) 05:32, 29 December 2012 (UTC)

Carly Rae Jepsen Excited For Beyonce's Return: "She's So Talented"

"Beyonce is one of the most talented artists I think that's out there in my personal opinion," confessed the Canadian.

She said: "I discovered this performance, just very stripped down and it was for some sort of children's hospital or something like that, and you just got to see Beyonce in her finest moment.

"Just totally acapella, smiling and beautiful, singing without any production behind her and it was one of those moments where I thought 'this woman deserves all of the attention she's getting and I was just proud."

Music and voice - Beyoncé revealed new process

Speaking on her songwriting process, Beyoncé said that in the past, she would start with lyrics and then look for an accompanying melody. Now, as she works with other songwriters, she explained, "It starts with the title or the concept of what I'm trying to say, and then I'll go into the booth and sing my idea. Then we work together to layer on."

The concepts can come from anywhere. "Even the silliest little thing that you hear on the radio, it comes from something deeper," she said. Recalling her Destiny's Child hit "Bootylicious," Beyoncé noted that the song was inspired by comments about her weight "and me being, like, 'I'm a Southern woman, and this is how Southern women are.' My motivation is always to express something or to heal from something or to laugh and rejoice about something."
